Abstract:In this paper, we consider asymptotically flat Riemannian manifolds endowed with a continuous metric and the metric is smooth away from a compact subset with certain conditions. If the metric is Lipschitz and the scalar curvature is nonnegative away from a closed subset with (n - 1)-dimensional Hausdorff measure zero, then we prove that the ADM mass of each end is nonnegative. Furthermore, if the ADM mass of some end is zero, then we prove that the manifold is isometric to the Euclidean space. The Hausdorff measure condition is optimal, which confirms a conjecture of Lee in 2013. The proof of the nonnegativity is based on a smoothing argument with some new estimates such as a L-1-scalar curvature approximation estimates. The proof of the rigidity relies on the RCD theory where we show that the manifold has nonnegative Ricci curvature in RCD sense. The idea involving RCD theory in the proof turns out to be much more suitable in the study of the rigidity for continuous metrics. Furthermore, our result generalizes the result of Lee and LeFloch (Commun Math Phys 339(1):99-120, 2015) from spin to non-spin.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider general metric spaces and length spaces whose metrics may be nonreversible, and give Gromov pre-compactness theorems for such spaces with finite reversibility with respect to a generalized Gromov–Hausdorff distance. On the basis of these we derive pre-compactness theorems for general Finsler manifolds with finite reversibility.

Abstract:Let M be an n (>= 7)-dimensional complete submanifold with parallel mean curvature in the hyperbolic space Hn+p, whose mean curvature satisfies H-2-1 <= 0. Denote by angstrom and B-R(q) the trace free second fundamental form of M and the geodesic ball of radius R centered at q is an element of M, respectively. We prove that if lim(R ->infinity) sup integral(vertical bar angstrom vertical bar 2dM)(BR(q))/R-2 and if (integral(M)vertical bar angstrom vertical bar(n) dM)(2/n) + 2n(n-2)/3 root n(n-1) H(integral(M)vertical bar angstrom vertical bar(n/2)dM)(2/n) <= C(n), then M is congruent to an n-dimensional hyperbolic space or the Euclidean space R-n. Abstract:In this paper, it is proved that there us no compact stable minimal submanifolds in a compact simply-connected 0.77-pinched Riemannian manifold, so that a conjecture of Lawson-Simons is supported In particular, the conjecture is true for complete L-pinched hypersurfaces in Rm+l with m greater than or equal to 3, Moreover, the instability of a compact domain of a minimal submanifold in delta -pinched manifolds is considered.
A sub-Riemannian Gauss-Bonnet theorem for surfaces in contact manifolds

Abstract:We obtain a sub-Riemannian version of the classical Gauss-Bonnet theorem. We consider subsurfaces of a three dimensional contact sub-Riemannian manifolds, and using a family of taming Riemannian metric, we obtain a pure sub-Riemannian result in the limit. In particular, we are able to recover topological information of the surface from the geometry around the characteristic set, i.e., the points where the tangent space to the surface and contact structure coincide. We both give a version for surfaces without boundary and surfaces with boundary.

Abstract:We prove that the length of the traceless second fundamental tensor A of an n-dimensional complete submanifold M, with parallel mean curvature vector and finite total curvature integral (M)\A \ (n)dV(M) < +infinity, in a simply connected space form (M) over bar (n+p)(c), c less than or equal to 0, goes to zero uniformly at infinity. Two applications of this result are given. In particular, we obtain a rigidity theorem for complete noncompact submanifolds with parallel mean curvature vector in the hyperbolic space form Hn+p(-1) for n greater than or equal to 6, p greater than or equal to 1.

Abstract:International Journal of Mathematics, Ahead of Print. Let [math] be an [math]-dimensional oriented compact submanifold with constant normalized scalar curvature [math] in the space form [math]. Denote by [math] and [math] the mean curvature and the Ricci curvature of [math] respectively. By applying Cheng-Yau's self-adjoint operator, we first prove that if [math] is a hypersurface in a unit sphere, and [math], then [math] is totally umbilical. Furthermore, we investigate the submanifolds in [math] with flat normal bundle satisfying [math], and obtain a complete classification theorem.

Abstract:We deal with suitable nonlinear versions of Jauregui's isocapacitary mass in 3-manifolds with nonnegative scalar curvature and compact outermost minimal boundary. These masses, which depend on a parameter $1<p\leq 2$, interpolate between Jauregui's mass $p=2$ and Huisken's isoperimetric mass, as $p \to 1^+$. We derive positive mass theorems for these masses under mild conditions at infinity, and we show that these masses do coincide with the ADM mass when the latter is defined. We finally work out a nonlinear potential theoretic proof of the Penrose inequality in the optimal asymptotic regime.

A conformal invariant and its application to the nonexistence of minimal submanifolds

Abstract:Let $(M^m,g)$ be an $m$-dimensional closed Riemannian manifold with non-negative sectional curvatures, $m\ge 3$. We define a conformal invariant and prove that, if the conformal invariant is bounded from above by a constant depending only on $m$, then there are no closed $n$-dimensional stable minimal submanifolds in $M$ for all $\xi(m)\le n\le m-2$, where $\xi(m)=1$ when $3\le m\le 5$ and $\xi(m)=2$ when $m\ge 6$. In particular, a conformal $m$-sphere with non-negative sectional curvatures does not admit any closed $n$-dimensional stable minimal submanifold for all $\xi(m)\le n\le m-2$.

On Real Kähler Euclidean Submanifolds with Non-Negative Ricci Curvature

Abstract:We show that any real Kahler Euclidean submanifold f : M-2n --> R2n+p with either non-negative Ricci curvature or non-negative holomorphic sectional curvature has index of relative nullity greater than or equal to 2n - 2p. Moreover, if equality holds everywhere, then the submanifold must be a product of Euclidean hypersurfaces almost everywhere, and the splitting is global provided that M-2n is complete. In particular, we conclude that the only real Kahler submanifolds M-2n in R-3n that have either positive Ricci curvature or positive holomorphic sectional curvature are products of n orientable surfaces in R-3 with positive Gaussian curvature. Further applications of our main result are also given.

Abstract:In this paper we study the following question: do sub-Laplacian type operators have non-trivial index theory on Carnot manifolds in higher degree of nilpotency? The problem relates to characterizing the structure of the space of hypoelliptic sub-Laplacian type operators, and results going back to Rothschild-Stein and Helffer-Nourrigat. In two degrees of nilpotency, there is a rich index theory by work of van Erp-Baum on contact manifolds, that was later extended to polycontact manifolds by Goffeng-Kuzmin. We provide a plethora of examples in higher degree of nilpotency where the index theory is trivial.

Abstract:We show that $\phi$-invariant submanifolds of metric contact pairs with orthogonal characteristic foliations make constant angles with the Reeb vector fields. Our main result is that for the normal case such submanifolds of dimension at least $2$ are all minimal. We prove that an odd-dimensional $\phi$-invariant submanifold of a metric contact pair with orthogonal characteristic foliations inherits a contact form with an almost contact metric structure, and this induced structure is contact metric if and only if the submanifold is tangent to one Reeb vector field and orthogonal to the other one. Furthermore we show that the leaves of the two characteristic foliations of the differentials of the contact pair are minimal. We also prove that when one Reeb vector field is Killing and spans one characteristic foliation, the metric contact pair is a product of a contact metric manifold with $\mathbb{R}$.

Abstract:1 In our preparing of [Gu6], we find that the proof of the existence for Kahler metrics of constant scalar curvature on almost homogeneous manifolds with two ends and reductive automorphism group in [Hwl] is not complete.For example, the Theorem 3 there follows from his Theorem 2, but in the case of Theorem 2 the base manifold is a product of manifolds with 62 = 1.Therefore, the proof of his Theorem 4 can come from neither his Theorem 3 nor his Theorem 2. Neither the proof of existence of extremal metrics on almost homogeneous manifolds of cohomogeneity one is true-as we see in this paper.Also, there should be nonnegative conditions of the Ricci curvatures in the Theorem 2 and Corollary 2 in [Gu3], the "B" in the (3) of [Gu3 p.374] should be "B and r".Although the proof there actually works for the case in which the traces r-7 of r on the eigenspaces of B are constants with at most one negative W which corresponds to an eigenvalue bj of B such that there is no other eigenvalue of B between bj and zero, e.g., B = kgt, gt have constant scalar curvatures.
Incompressible hypersurface, positive scalar curvature and positive mass theorem

Abstract: In this paper, we prove for $n\leq 7$ that if a differentiable $n$-manifold contains a relatively incompressible essential hypersurface in some class $\mathcal C_{deg}$, then it admits no complete metric with positive scalar curvature. Based on this result, we show for $n\leq 7$ that surgeries between orientable $n$-manifolds and $n$-torus along incompressible sub-torus with codimension no less than $2$ still preserve the obstruction for complete metrics with positive scalar curvature. As an application, we establish positive mass theorem with incompressible conditions for asymptotically flat/conical manifolds with flat fiber $F$ (including ALF and ALG manifolds), which can be viewed as a generalization of the classical positive mass theorem from \cite{SY79PMT} and \cite{SY2017}. Finally, we investigate Gromov's fill-in problem and bound the total mean curvature for nonnegative scalar curvature fill-ins of flat $2$-toruses (an optimal bound is obtained for product $2$-toruses). This confirms the validity of Mantoulidis-Miao's definition of generalized Brown-York mass in \cite{MM2017} for flat $2$-toruses.

Abstract:We generalize the well-known Gauchman theorem for closed minimal submanifolds in a unit sphere, and prove that if M is an n-dimensional closed submanifold of parallel mean curvature in Sn+p and if or (u) <= 1/3 for any unit vector u is an element of TM, where sigma (u) = parallel to h(u, u)parallel to(2), and h is the second fundamental form of M, then either sigma (u) equivalent to H-2 and M is a totally umbilical sphere, or sigma (u) equivalent to 1/3. Moreover, we give a geometrical classification of closed submanifolds with parallel mean curvature satisfying sigma (u) equivalent to 1/3.
