Abstract:For uncertain time delayed linear systems, which satisfy the matching conditions, paper presented a sufficient condition to stabilize the given system with single constant time delay in state via linear static state feedback control. This paper generalizes it to the general case, i.e. the systems under consideration are with multiple timevarying delays in both states and control inputs. Under less strict constraints, more general conclusions are obtained, and the correspondent conclusion in paper is only a simple corollary.

Abstract:This paper proposes methods to handle the problem of delay range stability analysis for a linear coupled differential-difference system (CDDS) with distributed delays subject to dissipative constraints. The model of linear CDDS contains many models of linear delay systems as special cases. A novel Liapunov-Krasovskii functional with non-constant matrix parameters, which are related to the delay value polynomially, is applied to derive stability conditions. By constructing this new functional, sufficient conditions in terms of robust linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) can be derived, which guarantee range stability of a linear CDDS subject to dissipative constraints. To solve the resulting robust LMIs numerically, we apply the technique of sum of squares programming together with matrix relaxations without introducing any potential conservatism to the original robust LMIs. Furthermore, the proposed methods can be extended to solve delay margin estimation problems for a linear CDDS subject to prescribed dissipative constraints. Finally, numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodologies.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to study a class of differential–difference equations with two delays. First, we investigate the local stability of the zero solution of the equation by analyzing the corresponding characteristic equation of the linearized equation. General stability criteria involving the delays and the parameters are obtained. Second, by choosing one of the delays as a bifurcation parameter, we show that the equation exhibits the Hopf bifurcation. The stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions are determined by using the center manifold theorem and the normal form theory. Finally, as an example, we analyze a simple motor control equation with two delays. Our results improve some of the existing results on this equation.

Abstract:We studied the delay-dependent stabilization problem for a class of uncertain singular system with time-delays and saturating controls. Theorems derived give sufficient conditions for delay-dependent stabilization of the singular systems with a combination of saturating controls and multiple time-delays in both state and control; we assumed the delays to be constant bounded but unknown, moreover, the uncertainties are also described to be unknown but bounded and the nonlinear terms included in the systems are fallen into a set. Under these sufficient conditions, the solution of the uncertain singular system is regular, impulse free, and locally asymptotically stable for all admissible uncertainties. Furthermore, the results based on several Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs) are developed to guarantee stability and be computed effectively. Finally, we advance an example to demonstrate the superiority of this method.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the stability analysis of linear continuous-time delay-difference systems with three delays. Firstly, a new method for testing the L 2 -exponential stability of the considered system is proposed, which is easier to use than the one in the existing literature. In view of the conservatism and the complexity of the obtained stability conditions in the existing literature, a complete Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF) is constructed by analyzing the relationship among the three delays. Sufficient conditions for both L 2 -exponential stability and exponential stability are then derived based on the constructed LKFs, which are delay-independent. A numerical example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness and less conservativeness of the proposed method.

Abstract:This brief addresses stability of the discrete-time positive systems with bounded time-varying delays and establishes some necessary and sufficient conditions for asymptotic stability of such systems. It turns out that, for any bounded time-varying delays, the magnitude of the delays does not affect the stability of these systems. In other words, system stability is completely determined by the system matrices.

Abstract:This paper deals with exponential stability of some classes of integral delay systems with a prescribed decay rate. By carefully exploring the literature on this topic, a delay decomposition approach is established to reduce the conservatism in the existing sufficient conditions by constructing new Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals. It is proven that the proposed sufficient conditions are always less conservative than the existing ones. Numerical examples illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches.

Abstract:This paper addresses the stability and control problem of the linear positive two‐dimensional (2‐D) continuous‐time systems in Roesser model with multiple time delays. The contribution lies in two aspects. First, a simple novel proof is provided to establish necessary and sufficient conditions of asymptotic stability for 2‐D continuous delayed systems. It turns out that the magnitude of delays has no any impact on the stability of these systems, which is completely determined by the system matrices. Second, a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of state‐feedback controllers is proposed for general delayed 2‐D systems, which ensures the non‐negativity and the stability of the resulting closed‐loop systems. Two examples are given to validate the proposed methods.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss the asymptotic stability of the trajectories governed by the scalar delay differential inequalities: D+x(t)≤−a(t)x(t)+b(t)sup0≤s≤τ̄x(t−s). Here, the requirements on a(t) and b(t) are more relaxed than those in previous works. For example, a(t), b(t), and a(t)−b(t) are not necessarily nonnegative. We prove that when τ̄ is small, the asymptotic stability of x(t) can be obtained if the time average of a(t)−b(t) on some fixed length T is lower bounded by some positive δ. And we explicitly give the upper bound of τ̄. We also give two applications of the theoretical results. First, we consider self synchronization in Hopfield networks with time varying connections. Then we investigate consensus in networks with time varying topologies and arbitrary coupling weights. In both applications, we extend some of our previous works where time delays are not considered. At last, two numerical examples with simulations are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Abstract:In this paper, we study asymptotic stability of the zero solution of a class of differential systems governed by a scalar differential inequality with time-varying structures and delays. We establish a new generalized Halanay inequality for the asymptotic stability of the zero solution for such systems under more relaxed conditions than the existing ones. We also apply the theoretical results to the analysis of self synchronization in networks of delayed differential systems and obtain a more general sufficient condition for self synchronization.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to study the dynamical behavior of non-autonomous stochastic hybrid systems with delays. By general Krylov-Bogolyubov’s method, we first obtain the sufficient conditions for the existence of an evolution system of measures of the non-autonomous stochastic system and also give some easily verifiable conditions. We then prove a sufficient condition for convergence of evolution systems of measures as the delay approaches zero. As an application of the abstract theory, we first prove the existence of evolution systems of measures for stochastic system with time-vary delays, which comes from feedback control problem based on discrete-time state observations. Furthermore, when observation interval goes to zero, we show every limit point of a sequence of evolution system of measures of the non-autonomous stochastic system must be a evolution system of measures of the limiting system.

Abstract:The problem of delay-dependent stability for systems with two additive time-varying delay is investigated.Firstly,the delay-dependent stability is studied and the whole delay interval is divided into subintervals.Based on the above condition,a novel type of Lyapunov function is presented.Secondly,a sufficient condition for asymptotic stability of the system is obtained by using Lyapunov stability theory and inequality technique.The relevant contents of the existing literature are generalized.And this criterion is given as a set of linear matrix inequalities.Finally,a numerical example is given to support the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:This paper studies the exponential stability and convergence rate analysis of continuous-time delay-difference systems. Firstly, stability and convergence rate analysis of delay-difference systems with both point delays and distributed delays having exponential integral kernels are studied by using the weighted Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals (LKFs) approach and the state transformation approach, respectively. Different sufficient stability conditions expressed by linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) are presented. Secondly, as a particular case, LMIs based conditions and spectral radius based conditions are given to ensure the exponential stability with a guaranteed convergence rate for delay-difference systems with both point delays and distributed delays having constant integral kernels, respectively. Finally, numerical examples illustrate the effectiveness of the obtained results.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with stability of interconnected systems with time delays. We develop a self-contained approach to stability analysis for linear and nonlinear systems in a unified framework. New lemmas are established on matrix properties and used as the key to make negativity of the derivative of the Lyapunov function. The scalar and simple analytical stability conditions are given. Unlike the majority of the literature on stability of delay systems, no matrix equations/inequalities are involved in our conditions, which is true even for large-scale systems and nonlinear subsystems with delayed interconnections. They are applicable to the more general nonlinear, time-varying, and/or interconnected systems than the relevant results reported in the literature. The examples are presented for illustration of the new results.

Abstract:Practical stability guarantees trajectories of a dynamical system being bounded within a prespecified region during a specified time interval and is of great interest in many applications. For a class of linear time-varying systems described by delay differential equations of neutral type, concepts of practical stability involving both variations of the state and its derivative are introduced in terms of given estimate sets. Sufficient conditions of practical stability are established on the basis of the mixed differential difference comparison principle presented in this paper, in terms of coefficients of the systems and the given allowable trajectory bounds. For the case of time-invariant estimate sets, these conditions are also independent of delay. These results are then applied to the Lyapunov stability and positively invariant tubes of the corresponding homogeneous systems. Specifically, an algebraic condition of globally exponentially asymptotical stability is derived, which is related to the well known property of the M-matrix and is independent of delay. Finally, an illustrative example is given.
