Abstract:As a new optical probe for biological imaging, long-lasting phosphorescence (LLP) materials with near-infrared (NIR) emission have aroused great research interest for their excellent signal-to-noise ratio and deep penetration in biological tissues. However, their applications for long-term imaging in biology are strongly restricted because the excitation light most of NIR long afterglow emitting phosphors required is ultraviolet (UV) light, which will be harmful to body. It is urgent to develop a NIR long-lasting phosphor under the excitation of NIR light. Herein, a NIR long afterglow emitting phosphor Zn1.3Ga1.4Sn0.3O4: Yb3+, Er3+, Cr3+ with the excitation of 980 nm laser was successfully prepared via a high-temperature solid-state reaction. The phosphor Zn1.3Ga1.4Sn0.3O4: Yb3+, Er3+, Cr3+ not only shows efficient green/red emission from Er3+ but also displays long-lasting NIR emission from Cr3+ owing to the energy transfer (ET) of Yb3+→ Er3+ → Cr3+. Surprisingly, the intense NIR afterglow could be induced by UV, visible and 980 nm NIR light irradiation, in which the possible mechanism was also investigated according to photoluminescence (PL) and thermo-luminescence (TL) spectra. Results indicate that the present phosphor Zn1.3Ga1.4Sn0.3O4: Yb3+, Er3+, Cr3+ possesses intense NIR afterglow under the excitation of 980nm light, which offer an efficient method to obtain the NIR long afterglow with the excitation of NIR laser.
