Abstract:Purpose:To explorer the gender difference of amplitude of low frequency fluctuations (ALFF) in patients with heroin dependence.Methods:Twenty-six patients with heroin dependence (HD group) and 20 age and gender matched health controls (HC group) were recruited.All patients came from the out-patient departments of psychiatry department in Huashan hospital of Fudan university and of clinical psychiatry department in Ruijin Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University and Shanghai Mental Health Center Affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University.HC group participants came from the physical examination department of Huashan hospital.All participants were screened by mini international neuropsychiatric disease interview (MINI).Patients who met DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for heroin dependence without comorbidity (except nicotine addiction),aged 18-45 years old,right handed were enrolled.All participants were assessed by Hamilton anxiety scale (HAMA) and Hamilton depression scale (HAMD).The above assessment and evaluation were implemented by two professional psychiatrists.After completion of MRI scans for all subjects,the unqualified data due to head movement and other factors were excluded.SPSS16.0 was used to analyze the demographic data and related information about addiction.Functional imaging data were processed by SPM8 and REST toolbox.Results:The all participants finished data collection.Totally,3 functional data (2 in HD group and 1 in HC group) were moved out of the analysis due to head movement.The result demonstrated that the total scores of HAMA and HAMD,and numbers of cigarette smoking were much higher in HD group than that in HC group (t=12.434,P=0.000;t=9.390,P=0.000,respectively).There was no statistically difference in age,gender and education between HD and HC groups (P＞0.05).The results of resting-state fMRI demonstrated that the ALFF was weaker in left posterior cingulate cortex,right paracentral lobule,bilateral medial supra frontal cortex,bilateral middle temporal gyrus and left precuneus,when compared with that in HC group.When taking the gender into consideration,ALFF of male HD group in left angular,right supramarginal gyrus and left frontal supra medial cortex was much higher than that in female HD group.But the ALFF was much lower in left temporal supra and middle gyrus,left paracentral lobule.Conclusion:Heroin dependence may change the function of DMN,and the alteration could differ between gender.
