The impact of higher-than-radiometer resolution landscape and weather features on SMAP product

Abstract:The NASA Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) mission was launched on 2015 which aims at producing low (36km) and high (3km & 9km) resolution global maps of surface soil moisture (SM) and freeze-thaw state every two to three days based on L-band radiometer and radar/radiometer measurements. This study focuses on the impacts of higher-than-radiometer resolution landscape and weather features on SM and brightness temperature (TB), and estimates the change of relative variance of different active-passive products by estimate resolution of fields with aggregation-variance metric. The excepted outcomes of this work are providing supplement materials to improve the retrieval accuracy of active-passive products and finding out the relative variance's change rules of active-passive products from multiple data fusion.
