Abstract:For a Hermitian holomorphic vector bundle over a Hermitian manifold, we consider the Dolbeault Laplacian with $\overline\partial$-Neumann boundary conditions, which is a self-adjoint operator on the space of square-integrable differential forms with values in the given holomorphic bundle. We argue that some known results on the spectral properties of this operator on pseudoconvex domains in $\mathbb C^n$ continue to hold on K\"ahler manifolds satisfying certain bounded geometry assumptions. In particular, we will consider the Dolbeault complex for forms with values in a line bundle, where known results from magnetic Schr\"odinger operator theory can be applied.

Abstract:The discrete Laplacian on Euclidean triangulated surfaces is a well-established notion. We introduce discrete Laplacians on spherical and hyperbolic triangulated surfaces. On the one hand, our definitions are close to the Euclidean one in that the edge weights contain the cotangents of certain combinations of angles and are non-negative if and only if the triangulation is Delaunay. On the other hand, these discretizations are structure-preserving in several respects. We prove that the area of a convex polyhedron can be written in terms of the discrete spherical Laplacian of the support function, whose expression is the same as the area of a smooth convex body in terms of the usual spherical Laplacian. We show that the conformal factors of discrete conformal vector fields on a triangulated surface of curvature $k \in \{-1,1\}$ are $-2k$-eigenfunctions of our discrete Laplacians, exactly as in the smooth setting. The discrete conformality can be understood here both in the sense of the vertex scaling and in the sense of circle patterns. Finally, we connect the $-2k$-eigenfunctions to infinitesimal isometric deformations of a polyhedron inscribed into corresponding quadrics.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the spectrum of a class of weighted Laplacians on Cayley graphs and determine under what conditions the corresponding eigenspaces are generically irreducible. Specifically, we analyze the spectrum on left-invariant Cayley graphs endowed with an invariant metric, and we give some criteria for generically irreducible eigenspaces. Additionally, we introduce an operator that is comparable to the Laplacian and show that the same criterion holds.

Abstract:We consider the spectrum of the Laplace operator acting on $\mathcal{L}^p$ over a conformally compact manifold for $1 \leq p \leq \infty$. We prove that for $p \neq 2$ this spectrum always contains an open region of the complex plane. We further show that the spectrum is contained within a certain parabolic region of the complex plane. These regions depend on the value of $p$, the dimension of the manifold, and the values of the sectional curvatures approaching the boundary.

Abstract:Let $(X,d)$ be a locally compact separable ultrametric space. We assume that $(X,d)$ is proper, that is, any closed ball $B$ in $X$ is a compact set. Given a measure $m$ on $X$ and a function $C(B)$ defined on the set of balls (the choice function), we define the hierarchical Laplacian $L_C$ which is closely related to the concept of the hierarchical lattice of F.J. Dyson. $L_C$ is a non-negative definite, self-adjoint operator in $L^2(X,m)$. We address in this paper to the following question: How general can be the spectrum $\mathsf{Spec}(L_C)$ as a subset of the non-negative reals? When $(X,d)$ is compact, $\mathsf{Spec}(L_C)$ is an increasing sequence of eigenvalues of finite multiplicity which contains $0$. Assuming that $(X,d)$ is not compact we show that, under some natural conditions concerning the structure of the hierarchical lattice (= the tree of $d$-balls), any given closed subset $S$ of $[0,\infty)$, which contains $0$ as an accumulation point and is unbounded if $X$ is non-discrete, may appear as $\mathsf{Spec}(L_C)$ for some appropriately chosen function $C(B)$. The operator $-L_C$ extends to $L^q(X,m)$, $0 < q < \infty$, as Markov generator and its spectrum does not depend on $q$. As an example, we consider the operator $\mathfrak{D}^{\alpha}$ of fractional derivative defined on the field $\mathbb{Q}_p$ of $p$-adic numbers.

Abstract:AbstractWe develop a nonlinear spectral graph theory, in which the Laplace operator is replaced by the 1 - Laplacian Δ1. The eigenvalue problem is to solve a nonlinear system involving a set valued function. In the study, we investigate the structure of the solutions, the minimax characterization of eigenvalues, the multiplicity theorem, etc. The eigenvalues as well as the eigenvectors are computed for several elementary graphs. The graphic feature of eigenvalues are also studied. In particular, Cheeger's constant, which has only some upper and lower bounds in linear spectral theory, equals to the first nonzero Δ1 eigenvalue for connected graphs.

Abstract:Let $M\subset S^{n+1}$ be the hypersurface generated by rotating a hypersurface $M_0$ contained in the interior of the unit ball of $\mathbb{R}^{n-k+1}$. More precisely, $M=\{(\sqrt{1-|m|^2}\, y\, , m):y\in S^k,\, m\in M_0\}$. We deduce the equation for the mean curvature of $M$ in terms of the principal curvatures of $M_0$ and in the particular case when $M_0$ is a surface of revolution in $\mathbb{R}^3$, we provide a way to find the eigenvalues of the Laplace and the Stability operators. Numerical examples of embedded minimal hypersurface in $S^{n+1}$ will be provided for several values of $n$. To illustrate the method for finding the eigenvalues, we will compute all the eigenvalues of the Laplace operator smaller than 12 and we compute all non positive eigenvalues of the Stability operators for a particular minimal embedded hypersurface in $S^6$. We show that the stability index (the number of negative eigenvalues of the stability operator counted with multiplicity) for this example is 77 and the nullity (the multiplicity of the eigenvalue $\lambda=0$ of the Stability operator) is 14. Similar results are found in the case where $M_0$ is a hypersurface in $\mathbb{R}^{l+2}$ of the form $(f_2(u) z, f_1(u))$ with $z$ in the $l$-dimensional unit sphere $S^l$

Abstract:We study the p-independence of spectra of Laplace operators on graphs arising from regular Dirichlet forms on discrete spaces. Here, a sufficient criterion is given solely by a uniform subexponential growth condition. Moreover, under a mild assumption on the measure we show a one-sided spectral inclusion without any further assumptions. We study applications to normalized Laplacians including symmetries of the spectrum and a characterization for positivity of the Cheeger constant. Furthermore, we consider Laplacians on planar tessellations for which we relate the spectral p-independence to assumptions on the curvature.

Abstract:We show that the spectrum of the complex Laplacian on a product of hermitian manifolds is the Minkowski sum of the spectra of the complex Laplacians on the factors. We use this fact to show that the range of the d-bar operator on a product manifold is closed, provided it is closed in each factor.

Abstract:In 1980 Michelsohn defined a differential operator on sections of the complex Clifford bundle over a compact Kähler manifold M . This operator is a differential and its Laplacian agrees with the Laplacian of the Dolbeault operator on forms through a natural identification of differential forms with sections of the Clifford bundle. Relaxing the condition that M be Kähler, we introduce two differential operators on sections of the complex Clifford bundle over a compact almost Hermitian manifold which naturally generalize the one introduced by Michelsohn. We show surprising Kähler-like symmetries of the kernel of the Laplacians of these operators in the almost Hermitian and almost Kähler settings, along with a correspondence of these operators to operators on forms which are of present interest in almost complex geometry.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{M}$ be a smooth, closed and connected manifold of dimension $n\in\mathbb{N}$, endowed with a Riemannian metric $g$. Moreover, let $\mathcal{B}$ be an $(n+1)$-dimensional compact manifold with boundary equal to $\mathcal{M}$. Endow $\mathcal{B}$ with a Riemannian metric $h$ such that, in local coordinates $(x,y)\in [0,1)\times \mathcal{M}$ on the collar part of the boundary, it admits the warped product form $h=dx^{2}+x^{2}g(y)$. We consider the homogeneous heat equation on $(\mathcal{B},h)$ and find an arbitrary long asymptotic expansion of the solutions with respect to $x$ near $0$. It turns out that the spectrum of the Laplacian on $(\mathcal{M},g)$ determines explicitly the above asymptotic expansion and vice versa.

Abstract:The Fricke-Macbeath surface is the unique Hurwitz surface of genus 7 with 504 conformal automorphisms. In this paper, we prove that the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian on the Fricke-Macbeath surface has a sevenfold multiplicity and contained in the interval $[1.23, 1.26]$. Further, we numerically identify the 7-dimensional representation of its automorphism group corresponding to the eigenspace associated to the first eigenvalue. We also determine the Dirichlet domain centered at 0 for a Fuchsian group that uniformizes the Fricke-Macbeath surface, identifying the algebraic coordinates for its vertices.

Abstract:This paper aims to provide an explicit computation of the equivariant noncommutative residue density of which yield the metric and Einstein tensors on even-dimensional Riemannian manifolds. A considerable contribution of this paper is the development of the spectral Einstein functionals by two vector fields and the equivariant Bismut Laplacian over spinor bundles. We prove the equivariant Dabrowski-Sitarz-Zalecki type theorems for lower dimensional spin manifolds with (or without) boundary.

Abstract:We study the differential operator $A=\frac{d^4}{dx^4}$ acting on a connected network $\mathcal{G}$ along with $\mathcal L^2$, the square of the discrete Laplacian acting on a connected discrete graph $\mathsf{G}$. For both operators we discuss well-posedness of the associated {linear} parabolic problems \[ \frac{\partial u}{\partial t}=-Au,\qquad\frac{df}{dt}=-\mathcal L^2 f, \] on $L^p(\mathcal{G})$ or $\ell^p(\mathsf{V})$, respectively, for $1\leq p\leq\infty$. In view of the well-known lack of parabolic maximum principle for all elliptic differential operators of order $2N$ for $N>1$, our most surprising finding is that, after some transient time, the parabolic equations driven by $-A$ may display Markovian features, depending on the imposed transmission conditions in the vertices. Analogous results seem to be unknown in the case of general domains and even bounded intervals. Our analysis is based on a detailed study of bi-harmonic functions complemented by simple combinatorial arguments. We elaborate on analogous issues for the discrete bi-Laplacian; a characterization of complete graphs in terms of the Markovian property of the semigroup generated by $-\mathcal L^2$ is also presented.

Abstract:Petrecca and Röser (Mathematische Zeitschrift 291:395–419, 2018) and Schueth (Ann Global Anal Geom 52:187–200, 2017) had shown that for a generic G -invariant metric g on certain compact homogeneous spaces (including symmetric spaces of rank 1 and some Lie groups), the spectrum of the Laplace-Beltrami operator was real G -simple. The same is not true for the complex version of when there is a presence of representations of complex or quaternionic type. We show that these types of representations induces a -action that commutes with the Laplacian in such way that G -properties of the real version of the operator have to be understood as -properties on its corresponding complex version.

Abstract:We prove various comparison theorems of the $i$-th eigenvalue $\lambda_i$ of the Laplacian on fibred Riemannian manifolds by using fiberwise spherical and Euclidean (or hyperbolic) symmetrization. In particular we generalize the Lichnerowicz inequality and the Faber-Krahn inequality to fiber bundles, and prove a counterpart to Cheng's $\lambda_1$ comparison theorem under a lower Ricci curvature bound. By applying these, it is shown that $\lambda_1,\cdots,\lambda_k$ of a fiber bundle given by a Riemannian submersion with totally geodesic fibers of sufficiently positive Ricci curvature are respectively equal to $\lambda_1,\cdots,\lambda_k$ of its base, and $\lambda_1$ of a (possibly singular) fibration with Euclidean subsets as fibers is no less than $\lambda_1$ of the disk bundle obtained by replacing each fiber with a Euclidean disk of the same dimension and volume.
