Abstract:Against the background that more and more businesses resort to management consulting firms for concepts and tools to boost their performance,this study posits that the academic community should expand its research agenda to explore how companies can improve their position in face of consulting firms.This study thus puts forth the concept of competency of utilizing management consultancy.Based on a critical analysis of the strategies and skills commonly applied by consulting firms to grow business and retain clients,this study proposes a competency model outlining four action areas on which business organizations should focus for more efficient use of management consultancy.
