Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the supply chain coordination problem under demand disruptions. By using the quantity discount contract, under some scenario, the two-stage newsvendor supply chain can be coordinated. But this coordination is achieved without considering the effect to the supply chain made by the unforeseeable event. When the unforeseeable event happened, it makes demand disruptions, that is to say, it makes the demand distribution at retailer be substituted by another one and this disruption maybe bring the coordinated supply chain down. We propose the new adjusted quantity discount contract as emergency contract plan for disruptions, which can still coordinate the supply chain under demand disruptions. Some managerial insights are given in order to deal with this demand disruption timely and properly.

Abstract:Coordination issue is investigated in a risk-averse supply chain with competing agents. The supply chain consists of a distribution system in which a supplier provides a common product to N independent retailers. These retailers face their respective stochastic demand markets but compete with each other through sell price operation. The retail competition model and coordination model are established, and the interactive dynamics among retailers is characterized, especially the existence and uniqueness of Nash equilibrium are demonstrated. Finally, channel coordination is addressed in the studied supply chain with new contracts. It is shown that these contracts can lead to the Pareto optimal solutions and achieve perfect coordination.

Abstract:For two stage supply chain consisting of one supplier and one retailer who faces stochastic market demand, it can be coordinated with buy back contract under some setting. But this coordination may be broken off by an emergent event, which maybe make the demand disruptions, i.e., it makes the demand distribution different from the assumption needed to achieve original supply chain's coordination. In this paper, an optimal strategy for supply chain to the disruptions is given and, as optimal response for the supply chain to the disruptions, an adjusted buy back contract which has anti-disruption-ability is proposed and some managerial insights are provided.

Abstract:This paper develops a coordination mechanism for a supply chain consisting of one manufacturer and n Cournot competing retailers when the production cost and demands are simultaneously disrupted. This differs from traditional supply chain coordination models under a static case and the case with only demand or cost disruption. The coordination mechanism with revenue sharing is considered, and the effects of production cost and demand disruptions on revenue sharing contract are discussed to investigate the optimal strategies of players with disruptions. The penalty cost is introduced explicitly to obtain the production deviation cost caused by the disruptions. In this study, it is obtained that the coordination contract considering the production deviation cost differs from that without disruption. Besides that, the disruptions may affect the order quantities, wholesale prices as well as revenue sharing contract. Then, the optimal strategies for different disruption levels under the centralized decision-making mode are proposed. Concerning the decentralized mode, the improved revenue sharing contract can be used to coordinate the decentralized decision-making supply chain effectively. Finally, the theoretical results are illustrated by conducting some numerical examples.

Abstract:Even though the wholesale price contract does not coordinate the supply chain,it is worth studying because it is commonly observed in practice.In this paper,we deal with the problem of optimal response to disruptions in supply chain management.When demand distribution faced by retailer is fluctuated by disruptions,we obtain the optimal react strategy of supply chain.We prove that,for the supply chain under wholesale price contract,only if the demand scale are changed largely by disruptions the supplier adjusts his production plan,but he will change his wholesale price properly.Some managerial points and numerical simulation are given.

Abstract:There are many disruptive accidents in the supply chain operations system and achieving the coordination of supply chain is main objective for supply chain research. While disruptive accidents have increasingly influenced the coordinated operation of the supply chain, existing research literature on the supply chain coordination is setting in a stationary environment. The answer for how the disruptive accidents affect the coordinated supply chain is given in this paper. Based on the benchmark supply chain which is coordinated by the negative incentive mechanism, we study the impacts of supply disruption on the supply chain system by using simulation approach in which two different distribution function of random variable are used to express the supply disruption. Comparison between these two simulation results and possible coordination mechanism under the supply disruption are proposed. From the perspective of supply chain risk management, we provide the inspiration for the manager.

Abstract:This paper investigates the coordination mechanism for a supply chain with one manufacturer and two competing retailers when the demands are disrupted. This differs from conventional supply chain coordination models under a static case. We will consider different scenarios of the problem: the production deviation cost may be either incurred to the manufacturer or to the retailers; the supply chain is to be coordinated by either a linear quantity discount schedule or an all-unit quantity discount schedule. In each case, we discuss how the supply chain is coordinated, and how it differs from the original planned scheme. We obtain some interesting managerial observations; for example, the discount slope is unchanged when the manufacturer bears the production deviation cost, but may change when the retailers bear the deviation cost. Some numerical examples are given to illustrate the theoretical results.

Abstract:This article develops a dynamic game model of a supply chain consisting of one manufacturer and one retailer to study the coordination mechanism and the effect of demand disruption on the coordination mechanism, where the market demand is sensitive to retail price and service. We assume that the supplier and the retailer only know the distribution of the disrupted amount after the demand disruption and they share the quantity deviation costs. We find that an all-unit wholesale quantity discount-subsidy mechanism can coordinate the supply chain. We give the coordination mechanism of the supply chain after the demand disruption and find that the demand disruption remarkably influences the price-service level decisions of the centralized supply chain and the coordination mechanism of the decentralized supply chain. In particular, the expected quantity differs from the planned quantity although the penalty costs prevent from this deviation.

Abstract:This paper develops two coordination models of a supply chain consisting of one manufacturer, one dominant retailer and multiple fringe retailers to investigate how to coordinate the supply chain after demand disruption. We consider two coordination schedules, linear quantity discount schedule and Groves wholesale price schedule. We find that, under the linear quantity discount schedule, the manufacturer only needs to adjust the maximum variable wholesale price after demand disruption. For each case of the disrupted amount of demand, the higher the market share of the dominant retailer, the lower its average wholesale price and the subsidy will be under the linear quantity discount schedule, while the higher its fraction of the supply chain’s profit will be under Groves wholesale price schedule. When the increased amount of demand is very large and production cost is sufficiently low, linear quantity discount schedule is better for the manufacturer. However, when the production cost is sufficiently large, Groves wholesale price schedule is always better. We also find that the disrupted amount of demand largely affects the allocation of the supply chain’s profit.

Abstract:Supply chain disruption management has been a hot issue for a long time. This paper studies a supply chain consisting of two suppliers and a retailer. The suppliers may have correlated disruption risks and they choose their respective wholesale price. The retailer's demand is selling price-dependent. In a scenario of ex-ante pricing scheme, i.e., the retailer chooses selling price before the suppliers' disruption is resolved, we find that the disruption correlation affects the supply chain members' profits in a nonmonotonic way. In a scenario of responsive pricing scheme, i.e., the retailer chooses selling price after the suppliers' disruption is resolved, we show that when the suppliers' disruption correlation becomes stronger, the suppliers' profit will decrease while the retailer's profit will increase. Moreover, the retailer always earns a higher profit under the responsive pricing scheme than under the ex-ante pricing scheme. In an extension, we show that the suppliers' disruption correlations affects the supply chain members' profits in a similar way if the supply chain has two competitive retailers. However, in this extension, if the suppliers' disruption correlation is low, the retailers' profit is higher under the responsive pricing scheme; otherwise, the retailers' profit is higher under the ex-ante pricing scheme.

Abstract:In risk-neutral case, we obtain the coordination strategy of a two-stage supply chain in buy-back contract under the disruption of any two factors out of supplier's production cost, retailer's marginal cost and retail price. We analyze the relationship between the optimal order quantity after disruption and the previous optimized quantity, and list the expression of contract parameters adapted to emergency. The variation trends of different variables in the buy-back contract are showed through a case study at the end of the paper.

Abstract:This paper explores a coordination model for a three-echelon supply chain including two different manufacturers, one distributer and one retailer via the combined option and back contracts. And one manufacturer provides the high wholesale price with low supply disruption risk and the other is completely the opposite. This differs from the previous supply chain coordination model. Firstly, supply disruption is added to the three-echelon supply chain. Secondly, considering the coordination of the supply chain, we deploy the combined option and back contracts which are seldom used in the previous study. Furthermore, it is interesting that supply disruption risk and buyback factor do not affect the distributor’s order quantity from the manufacturer who has low product price and unreliable operating ability, while the order quantity increases with the rise of option premium and option strike price. The distributor’s order quantity from the manufacturer, which has high product price and reliable operating ability, increases with the rise of supply disruption risk but decreases when the buyback factor, option premium, and option strike price decrease.

Abstract:This paper analyzes the option coordination problem of a fresh agricultural product supply chain under two supply chain structures, when the production cost and the loss rate are disrupted simultaneously. This paper provides the explicit option coordination conditions for the disrupted supply chain under two supply chain structures, and then explores the effects of the disruptions and supply chain structure on the option coordination conditions. The results suggest that it is unfavorable to apply the original coordinating contracts without disruptions to coordinate the disrupted supply chain. The coordination of the disrupted supply chain can be achieved with knowledge of the distribution of demand. In two coordinating contracts for the disrupted supply chain, the exercise price is still at the original level without disruptions while the option price deviates from the original level without disruptions. Moreover, the relationships of the coordination conditions in two supply chain structures depend on the value of the profit allocation coefficient. When the profit allocation coefficient exceeds (falls behind) a certain threshold, the option price is set at a higher (lower) value in the supplier-led supply chain structure than in the distributor-led supply chain structure, while the exercise price is set at a lower (higher) value in the supplier-led supply chain structure than in the distributor-led supply chain structure. Finally, the disrupted supply chain with any supply chain structure will perform better in the modified coordinating contracts than in the original coordinating contracts without disruptions.

Abstract:Abstract With the rapid development of economic globalization, global procurement and supply, lean on-time production and other methods have been widely used. The single competition between enterprises turns into the competition between supply chain and supply chain. However, the occurrence of natural disasters, terrorist attacks and the game and coupling of the internal structure of the supply chain make the supply chain encounter the interruption crisis in the process. Therefore, studying different mitigation strategies for the interruption of node locations in the supply chain is particularly important. In this paper, supply interruption cases are designed, and the simulation models of the dual-chain one-way coordination strategy mode and the dual-chain multi-node two-way coordination strategy mode are constructed by combining system dynamics. The dynamic operation mechanism of supply chain system with different mitigation strategies is deduced by two indexes of “inventory level” and “order accumulation rate”. The results show that the “dual-chain multi-node two-way coordination strategy” has the best performance in improving the defense ability of node enterprises.

Abstract:This paper studies a dual-channel supply chain composed of a retailer and a supplier, and discusses the optimal decisions of supply chain participants under decentralized decision-making without and with demand disruption, respectively. By comparing the optimal decisions in the two scenarios, we find that the optimal decision after demand disruption is a linear function of the demand disruption plus optimal decision before demand disruption. Additionally, when the demand disruption is in interval (− ψu 2 , ψu 1 ), the optimal total production of the supply chain is equal before and after demand disruption. Moreover, the profits of the supply chain members and the value of their recognizing demand disruption are largely affected by the scale of demand disruption. Finally, the results show that the improved revenue-sharing contract can effectively improve the supply chain performance.
Coordinating a supply chain with backup supplier through buyback contract under supply disruption and uncertain demand

Abstract:This paper develops a supply chain model consisting of a single supplier and a single retailer. The market demand is assumed to be stochastic and the supplier is prone to disruption. The centralised model is provided as benchmark, and non-coordinated model is studied with the wholesale price-only contract. To enhance the total expected profit, we apply buyback contract and show that the chain may be coordinated thorough this contract, although the chain is vulnerable to disruption. To mitigate the effect of disruption, we further propose a backup supplier to be involved in the chain. We show that the backup supplier substantially enhances the profit of the retailer when there is no coordination between the primary supplier and the retailer. Furthermore, if the retailer is allowed to coordinate with the primary supplier, we show that the coordination remains effective for certain range of disruption probability and collapses thereafter. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the developed model.
Supply Chain Coordination with Buy-back Contracts in a Two-period Selling Season

Abstract:Supply chain contracts help achieve coordination which allows decentralized decisions of supply chain members to perform a centralized decision for the whole systems. Traditional supply chain contracts models are developed usually assuming that sales prices in the whole sales period are fixed. However, in practice, many short life-cycle commodities always meet a two-period selling season and the prices will be reduced in the second period. Based on classical buy-back contracts models, this paper investigates whether the buy-back contract could coordinate the whole supply chain when facing the reduced prices. We find out the buy-back contract alone does not coordinate the supply chain, and the properly designed buy-back contract plus cost sharing policy or sales rebate policy is able to achieve channel coordination and lead to a Pareto improving win-win situation for supply chain members. Our contribution in this paper is that we develop a proper contract to coordinate the supply chain when short life-cycle commodities meet a two-period selling season.

Abstract:This paper studies the coordination of a supply chain with one manufacturer and two competing retailers after the production cost of the manufacturer was disrupted. We consider two coordination mechanisms: an all-unit quantity discount and an incremental quantity discount. For each mechanism, we develop the conditions under which the supply chain is coordinated and discuss how the cost disruption may affect the coordination mechanisms. For the all-unit quantity discount scheme, we find that the manufacturer charges the lower-cost retailer for a lower unit wholesale price in order to induce him to order more products. If the costs of two retailers have a remarkable difference, then the all-unit quantity discount scheme cannot coordinate the supply chain with disruptions. While the cost disruption may affect the wholesale prices, order quantities as well as retail prices, it is optimal for the supply chain to keep the original coordination mechanism if the production cost change is sufficiently small. The model is also extended to the case with both cost and demand disruptions. The equilibrium strategies of the retailers are investigated when the manufacturer cannot timely react to the disruptions such that she has to keep the original mechanism. We illustrate the results by numerical examples.

Abstract:As for the supply chain consisting of a manufacturer and multiple competing retailers, the disruption management decision is considered for the demand disruption that both the investment sensitivity coefficient and the investment-elasticity are changed simultaneously. Meanwhile, the corresponding solutions are given for different cases of the disruption, and the characteristics of the solutions are analyzed. The production plan is proved to be robustness under certain conditions, and the production plan of the coordination strategy is investigated for the disruption with appropriate contractual arrangement, i.e., a subside rate schedule. Mutual restraints exist between the changed investment sensitivity coefficient and the investment-elasticity when the coordination mechanism is used. And the more the number of the retailers in the system, the more the subside provided by the suppler on the coordinaton strategy.
