The research on the contributions and mechanisms of managerial learning to technological progress

Abstract:Most existing studies of economic growth and technological progress have focused on the technological learning and innovation.The important question of how companies acquired and ‘ learned’ management technologies is almost untouched in the literature.This is a serious oversight as managerial learning significantly contributes to economic growth and technological progress in China as elsewhere.Based on most existing studies,the research constructed a theory model for the relationship between managerial learning and technological progress.Based on methods of mathematical statistics and multiple cases study,the research tested propositions with China economy data from 1978 to 2013 and three typical firms.The results show that managerial learning contributed to technological progress as more as 45％;and there are three mechanisms here,including efficiency-oriented,cost-oriented and technology opportunities-oriented.
