Analysis of flavonoids, alkaloids and organic acids in the non-ephedrine alkaloids of the extract of Ma Huang

Abstract:Two simple, sensitive and reliable methods using UV/Vis spectrophotometry are developed for the determination of the total quantity of flavonoids and alkaloids in the non-ephedrine alkaloids of the extract of Ephedra sinica Stapf (Ma Huang). The existence of organic acids is tested by the characteristic color reaction in the same part. These results provide the experimental basis for the comprehensive development and utilization of Ma Huang and for the change from waste to resource of the non-ephedrine alkaloids of the extract of Ma Huang.
