Job Stress and Job Satisfaction of Workers in Traditional Cast-in-Situ Projects and Industrialized Projects

Abstract:Working environment of traditional cast-in-situ projects is poor and stressful. Industrialized construction, strongly promoted by Chinese government these years, transfers many onsite activities to prefabrication factories, changing the operation mode, and working environment of construction workers. This paper examines and compares the job stress and job satisfaction experienced by construction workers working in traditional cast-in-situ projects and industrialized projects. Workers with experience of both construction techniques were asked to evaluate their stress levels and job satisfaction levels in the two types of construction projects, respectively, by filling the questionnaires of job stressor and job satisfaction. Then paired-sample t-test was conducted by using SPSS 20.0. The results show that stressors of occupational development, work environment, and work-family interface were most significant relieved and job satisfaction is significantly improved in industrialized projects.
