Abstract:We propose a domain-level-based routing (DLR) algorithm for a multidomain WDM network with confidentiality constraints of interdomain connectivity and wavelength availability. This algorithm classifies all domains in the network into different groups with incremental levels according to the metrics that they are relative to the source and destination domains. The path computation is implemented in the ascending or descending direction of domain levels for domains within the determined domain set. The resultant route is calculated via the growth and pruning of an interdomain routing tree (IDRT). Three modes of growth and five modes of pruning are proposed to support the IDRT evolution. The DLR algorithm can be accomplished in a hierarchical path computation element (PCE) routing architecture, with the domain set determined and the IDRT calculated by the parent PCE and intradomain path computed by child PCEs. Simulation results indicate that the proposed DLR algorithm performs better than previous schemes in terms of blocking probability and resource utilization ratio, with slight signaling overhead and computation complexity increase.

Abstract:We first propose a novel multi-domain routing paradigm that transforms the routing problem from heuristic-algorithm-based computation to artificial-intelligence-based data analytics. Numerical results prove that our proposal can achieve excellent routing accuracy, and significant signaling reduction.

Abstract:The multi-log(2)N network architecture is attractive for constructing optical switches, and the related routing algorithms are critical for the operation and efficiency of such switches. Although several routing algorithms have been proposed for multi-log(2)N networks, a full performance comparison among them has not been published lip to now. Thus, we rectify this omission by providing Such a comparison in terms of blocking probability, time complexity, hardware cost and load balancing capability. Notice that the load balance is important for reducing the peak power requirement of a switch, so we also propose in this paper a new routing algorithm for optical multi-log(2)N networks to achieve a better load balance.

Abstract:For the first time a real-time and distributed routing algorithm based on Simulated Annealing (SA) algorithm is proposed to promote the intelligence, survivability, and interworking in optical mesh networks. Further, a SA-based Two-steps Optimization Routing Algorithm (SATORA) is proposed to obtain the inter-domain routing of global optimization. Compared with the previous approaches, this SA-based routing algorithm can achieve the routing optimization under multi-constraint condition, and can acquire the working and backup paths at one time for network survivability as well. Two crucial factors, the path hop count and the network congestion degree, are considered evaluating the cost of the path. Simulation experiments on different networks indicate that the SATORA can reduce the congestion degree of the networks and enhance the blocking performance of routing calculation for traffic requests when the inter-domain path protection is required.

Abstract:This paper proposes an inter-domain routing algorithm for multi-domain WDM networks based on hierarchical PCE architecture. The proposed algorithm presents a strategy of selecting k random paths in parent PCE. Abstract:In the study of dynamic routing and wavelength assignment (DRWA) algorithms and protocols in optical networks, blocking probability is a chief criterion for performance evaluation. But it does not always capture the full effect of a particular algorithm on other aspects, such as fairness problem, which refers to the variability in blocking probabilities experienced by connection requests between various node pairs. Most commercial routing protocols, such as OSPF, prefers to adopt the shortest path for a particular connection, also brings unfairness to diverse connection requests, and such an unfairness becomes more serious in optical networks without wavelength conversion due to wavelength continuity constraint. Some literature have concerned this fairness problem and proposed several fairness enhancement methods. But unfortunately, they will deteriorate the overall blocking probability. In this paper, we try to optimize the fairness and blocking probability simultaneously via the alternate routing strategy, and a novel classified alternate routing (CAR) approach will be adopted. In our investigations, we will consider the optimization of alternate path set determination strategy, wavelength assignment and path selection method, and link weight function, etc. Comparisons and collaborations with formerly proposed fairness enhancement methods will be also presented.

Abstract:Optical fiber networks have become the foundations of communication system to provide enormous transmission capacity with less cost. Connection blocking is an inherent attribute and influences optical networks' performance, especially in multi-domain network scenarios. We analyze the reason and effect of blockings including routing blockings and signaling blockings. We regard the cause of signaling blockings as the information asynchronization in resource reservation process. We define the concept of Information Asynchronization Period to describe the effect of signaling blockings. To reduce signaling blockings in end-to-end optical path provisioning for multi-domain scenarios, we propose a novel network routing and control scheme, named Intra-Domain Immediate Reroute based Semi-Proactive Hierarchical Path Computation Element (IDIRSP H-PCE). The proposed routing and control scheme mainly consists of two parts, Semi-Proactive routing and Intra-Domain Immediate Reroute mechanism. Dynamic network simulations verify our proposed scheme. We compare the network performance with Reactive Backward Recursive PCE-based Computation (BRPC) based PCE, Reactive H-PCE and Proactive H-PCE. Simulation results indicate that IDIRSP H-PCE can provide connection with a very low blocking probability in light load case, which is close to Proactive H-PCE, and obviously better than BRPC based Reactive PCE and Reactive H-PCE. For heavy load case, IDIRSP H-PCE has a remarkably lower blocking probability than other three methods. Moreover, we test our proposed routing and control scheme when facing link faults. Simulation results indicate that IDIRSP H-PCE can greatly improve the traffic access rate and optimize the network performance.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the dynamic multicast routing problem for WDM networks with sparse light splitting. We propose a hybrid multicast algorithm based on the combination of mobile agent technique and genetic algorithm. Simulation results based upon the ns-2 network simulator indicate that the proposed algorithm significantly outperforms the available algorithms in terms of blocking probability.

Abstract:A domain-level gradient-based routing (DLR) algorithm for heterogeneous optical networks with synchronous digital hierarchy and optical transport network domains is proposed and experimentally validated. This algorithm classifies domains into groups with incremental levels on the basis of domain-level partitioning, and guides paths level by level along a gradient on the basis of interdomain routing tree evolution. The proposed algorithm is implemented in the hierarchical path computation element-based control architecture for connection provisioning. Testbeds with commercial and emulated nodes are established to verify the feasibility and performance of the algorithm. Experimental and emulation results show that DLR effectively performs in terms of network blocking probability, real time characteristics, and scalability.
An OBGP-Based Mechanism for Inter-Domain Routing in Optical Networks

Abstract:The authors proposed a novel mechanism based on Optical Border Gateway Protocol (OBGP) that implements inter-domain routing in optical mesh networks.Based on an idea of minimum-hop optimal path and a bypass routing during the request course of lightpath setup phase,they achieved the procedure of dynamic and distribution lightpath establishment efficiently in optical networks,which results in a lower blocking probability than before.They also made resource reservation and configured hardware with a “parallel signaling” mode,which can reduce the end-to-end delay.An experiment of this mechanism using optiman network simulation tools has been presented,which has shown that our study can decrease blocking probability on condition of heavy traffics and make network performance better.It also demonstrates that the three factors,such as network scales,number of wavelengths and traffic loads,have influenced on the network performance.The analysis indicates that a value related to the change of blocking probability approximates the product of end-to-end delay and network scales.

Abstract:The routing issues in multi-layer and multi-domain optical networks have drawn much attention in current research. With the introduction of the path computation element, routes can be calculated more efficiently in multi-domain optical networks. However, the optimal degree of routing approach in multi-layer and multi-domain optical networks is also determined by the clustering algorithms deployed for construction of hierarchical networks. Therefore, it is important to investigate the way to evaluate the impact of the clustering algorithm on the routing approach (e.g., blocking probability) in optical networks with dynamic traffic, which has not been studied sufficiently. In this paper, a novel method to describe and evaluate the clustered structures generated by different clustering algorithms for hierarchical optical networks is proposed. This method deploys a novel evaluation metric that represents blocking probability of clustered optical networks, so it can be used as guidelines for designing clustered structures. Besides theoretical analysis, simulations are carried out on different network topologies and clustered types to validate the effectiveness of the method presented.

Abstract:With the development of multi-network integration,how to ensure efficient interconnections among multiple independent network domains is becoming a key problem.Traditional interdomain routing protocol fails due to the limitation of domain information privacy,where each autonomous domain doesn’t share any specific intra-domain information.A machine learning-based federated routing mechanism was proposed to overcome the existing shortcomings.Each autonomous domain shares intra-domain information implicitly via neural network models and parameters.It not only breaks data islands problems but also greatly reduces the amount of transmitted data shared between domains,then decreases convergence delay of entire network information.Based on the federated routing mechanism,border routers can formulate global optimal routing strategies according to the status of entire network.
Performance Optimization of Intelligent Optical Networks by Multiple Alternate Routes Based on the K-shortest Path Algorithm

Abstract:Blocking probability is one of the key factors to evaluate the routing and wavelength algorithms for intelligent optical network. Two kinds of Dynamic K-Shortest Path (DKSP) Algorithms were designed. One is based on Linear Link Weight Function (LW) and the other is based on Piecewise Linear Link Weight Function (PLW). It was found that the two kinds of DKSP can significantly decrease the blocking probability of optical network comparing to the static KSP for the same number of alternate routes. Compared to routing with LW, the coefficient of PLW has larger effect on the blocking probability of optical network when the number of alternate route is small, but the effect is weakened with the increase of the number of alternate route. As far as the two kinds of DKSP algorithms are concerned, DKSP with PLW has some advantage over DKSP with LW on decreasing the blocking probability. It was also found that the optimized performance can almost be got by DKSP with only 2-4 alternate routes for NSFNET.

Abstract:In traditional networks, routing table is essential for packet transmission due to the lack of the direction information abut destination in the head of packet. However, it is feasible to make the address of device encode the routing information with the application of data technology. In this article, we propose new identities for networking routers-vectors, and a new routing principle based on these vectors is designed accordingly. These vectors encode the device distance information and serve as a pattern of the network topology. Then, routing decisions could be made by these vector calculations and only requirement of table query on the destination vector following the proposed routing principle. The proposed method is not limited in calculating the shortest path routing, but extend to solve the constrain routing problem. Besides, multi-paths routing is also available as long as multi-paths exist between the origin-destination pairs. The simulation results show that our proposed method works reliable and stable in routing tasks, and can achieve a remarkable performance when compared with the state-of-the-art work on the delay constrained least cost path (DCLC) problem.

Abstract:In order to reduce the blocking rate of wavelength routing DWDM optical network and improve the wavelength resource utilization, this paper proposes a deep learning optical network routing algorithm based on wavelength continuity supervision (DL-RWA). In this algorithm, wavelength continuity is taken as the key parameter, and the data set is created by supervised learning. After the deep neural network (DNN) is constructed, the data set is used to train it, and the network parameters are adjusted, so that the algorithm can select the routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) scheme with the best wavelength continuity according to the real-time situation of the dynamic network. The simulation results show that compared with the traditional KSP + FF routing algorithm, DL-RWA algorithm can effectively enhance the routing effect and improve the network environment when dealing with the long correlation traffic model (IP traffic simulation).

Abstract:We propose a semicentralized semidistributed network architecture based on active stateful path computation elements (PCEs) to intelligently provide end-to-end inter-domain connections in multi-domain optical transport networks supplied by different equipment vendors. A novel control entity, called an inter-domain communication control and management element (ICCME), is introduced into the architecture to achieve flexible distributed interdomain control and centralized intra-domain management by integrating with "proactive" and "reactive" stateful capabilities. Inter-domain routing and signaling are completed with the collaboration of multiple ICCMEs in a peer-to-peer manner, which decentralizes highly intensive computation and signaling to multiple ICCMEs. In addition, we put forward a unified inter-domain communication protocol to eliminate the differences in private signaling message formats of various vendors' domains. We report a successful field trial of providing inter-domain connections across a commercial three-domain three-vendor optical transport network. Also, experimental results indicate that ICCME-based architecture performs better than previous schemes in terms of scalability, i.e., low average routing load of control entities and low average delay in establishing interdomain connections, but results in higher message overhead and blocking probability.
Break the Blackbox! Desensitize Intra-domain Information for Inter-domain Routing

Abstract:Along with the ever-increasing amount of data generated from edge networks, cross domain (also known as Autonomous Systems, AS) transmission problem has attracted more and more attention. As mature and widely used inter-domain routing protocols, BGP-based solutions often use the number of domains (i.e. AS hops) of each path to make inter-domain routing decisions, which is simple and effective, but usually can not get the optimal routing results due to the lack of real state/information within ASes. These protocols choose the path with less AS hops as the forwarding path, even if the total latency or cost of the domains on this path is higher. While to solve this problem, directly access to intra-domain information as the assistance to make routing decisions is impractical due to data privacy. In this paper, we propose DIT, which makes near-optimal inter-domain routing decisions with desensitized intra-domain information. To do so, we design a homomorphic encrypted-based private number comparison scheme to export intra-domain information securely and thus assist in routing decisions. We conduct a series of experiments according to five real network topologies with nearly 900 simulated flows, and the results show that DIT reduces the number of forwarding hops by about 45% in average and reduces flow completion time by about 60%.

Abstract:The invention discloses a multi-domain optical network routing method based on edge ROADM (Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer) ring structure, mainly aiming at preventing the integral property of the integral network from reducing with the increase of the number of nodes of the optical network and the increase of the capacity of the optical network. The routing method comprises the following steps of: firstly forming boundary nodes of each routing domain forming the multi-domain optical network by adopting multi-dimensional ROADM nodes; secondly sequentially connecting all the boundary nodes of the routing domain with the number of the boundary nodes larger than 1 end to end through optical fibers so as to form a main edge ROADM ring; and finally carrying out routing computation on an intra-domain routing request or a cross-domain routing request of the multi-domain optical network. The invention reduces the sensibility of the multi-domain optical network on an optimal route by reasonably designing the topological structure of the multi-domain optical network and the matched routing method thereof, thereby enhancing the integral network property.
