Abstract:This paper presents a solution of acquiring high-resolution face image. Instead of using super-resolution methods, a multi-sensor system which uses static cameras to detect face while uses an IP speed dome camera to focus to the face detected is deployed. As the result of system, a real high-resolution face image is stored on disk. Experiments show that a promising result is achieved.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a system to acquire high resolution face image of a human in surveillance scene. Firstly, the system detects a full or partially occluded human body in the scene and zooms in to it automatically. And then a face detection and zooming process is running. Finally, a high resolution face image is captured and saved. The system can run real-time as the algorithms are accelerated by multi-core CPU and CPU. Experiments show that the system can capture most high resolution face image of human in the scene and can be implemented in the real surveillance systems. Our system provides an alternative method with better result to acquire high resolution face image comparing to face super-resolution methods.

Abstract:Facial features localization, as an important technique in human face analyzing, is specialized in searching for facial features (eyes, nose, mouth, etc) within a given region in an image. Although there are many methods to locate the facial features, most of them are computationally expensive. This paper presents a simple method that uses spatial filter for accurate feature detection in face images. When using this algorithm in complex images (images that contain both human faces and some other objects), we find that, there are many false positive candidates. In order to eliminate these candidates, we use a new variant of AdaBoost classifiers based face detection to detect the face regions, thus limit the regions that feature localization algorithm analyzed.

Abstract:For fast detecting and tracking human face in real-time video, a method based on the color and character of face was proposed. Moving human-body objects were extracted from video according to temporal differencing and shape information firstly, and then the skin area was segmented based on its Gaussian model established due to the clustering character of skin color in YCbCr color space. After noise was suppressed, the non-face skin area was eliminated according to the geometric characters of face and the color characters of organs in face, and then the face was located in image. According to the face location, the head and shoulder part were centered in video by driving camera using control strategy, so movement tracking was realized. In order to enhance the adaptability for light changes, proper updating strategy for the Gaussion model parameters was proposed. Experiments show that the proposed method performs well in face detection and tracking in both simple background and complex background.

Abstract:Automatic face recognition has long been established as one of the most active research areas in computer vision. Face recognition in unconstrained environments remains challenging for most practical applications. In contrast to traditional still-image based approaches, recently the research focus has shifted towards video-based approaches. Video data provides rich and redundant information, which can be exploited to resolve the inherent ambiguities of image-based recognition like sensitivity to low resolution, pose variations and occlusion, leading to more accurate and robust recognition. Face recognition has also been considered in the content-based video retrieval setup, for example, character-based video search. In this chapter, we review existing research on face recognition and retrieval in video. The relevant techniques are comprehensively surveyed and discussed.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a system for face identification. Given two query face images, our task is to tell whether or not they are of the same person. The main contribution of this paper comes from two aspects: (1) We adopt the one-shot similarity kernel [35] for learning the similarity of two face images. The learned similarity measures are then used to map a face image to reference images. (2) We propose a graph-based method for selecting an optimal set of reference images. Instead of directly working on the image features, we use the learned similarity to the reference images as the new features and compute the corresponding matching score of the two query images. Our approach is effective and easy to implement. We show encouraging and favorable results on the ''Labeled Faces in the Wild'' - a challenging data set of faces.

Abstract:This paper presents a high performance face recognition system, in which the face database has a large amount of 2.5 million faces. Huge as the face database is, the recognition processes in ordinary ways meets with great difficulties: the identification rate of most algorithms may decline significantly; meanwhile, querying on a large-scale database may be quite time-consuming. In our system, a special distributed parallel architecture is proposed to speed up the computation. Furthermore, a multimodal part face recognition method based on principal component analysis (MMP-PCA) is adopted to perform the recognition task, and the MMX technology is introduced to accelerate the matching procedure. Practical results prove that this system has an excellent performance in recognition: when searching among 2,560,000 faces on 6 PC servers with Xeon 2.4 GHz CPU, the querying time is only 1.094 s and the identification rate is above 85% in most cases. Moreover, the greatest advantage of this system is not only increasing recognition speed but also breaking the upper limit of face data capacity. Consequently, the face data capability of this system can be extended to an arbitrarily large amount.

Abstract:Abstract In recent years, with the continuous development of the Internet and artificial intelligence, face recognition technology has also been widely used in many application scenarios. Facing complex surveillance scenarios, face recognition technology still faces great challenges. This paper focuses on implementing real-time and efficient face recognition systems in complex surveillance scenarios, such as insufficient lighting, small faces, dense crowds, and sides at 45 ° environment. The system is mainly based on RetinaFace for face detection and face alignment, and uses lightweight mobilenet (0.25) as the backbone network of RetinaFace. Facial feature extraction is based on deep residual neural network combined with ArcFace loss, and feature matching is performed by Euclidean distance. The experimental results show that the face recognition system has good real-time performance, accuracy and robustness.

Abstract:Face recognition is an important biometric in video surveillance. However, the conventional algorithms of face recognition are also susceptible to various conditions. The contribution of this chapter is to explore face recognition by using deep learning, including detecting the location of human faces on the given images at various distances and multiple angles. In the distances, the influence of the distance from the camera to a face and the size of the face in the images is explored. There are 500 images collected from various videos as the input and they are applied to train the proposed models. The accuracy of face recognition from the videos excluding training dataset is at 90.18%. The results indicate that this method is able to recognise human faces with partial occlusion and various distances.

Abstract:This paper presents an implementation of a system designed for the location of human faces and facial features such as pupils, eyes, nose and mouth. The kernel of the system is an integration of several algorithms, such as the human face center-of-gravity template, illumination compensation, and so on. A false-face removal algorithm is proposed in this paper specially for the distinguishing of cartoon faces from true faces. The testing experiments of the system have produced quite good results, with the average detection accuracy rates for face detection and facial feature location being 97.8% and 87.5% respectively.

Abstract:Facial features localization, an important technique in human face analyzing, is specialized in searching for facial features (eyes, nose, mouth, ears, etc) within a given region in an image or image sequence. It finds applications in various areas, such as face detection, face recognition, gesture recognition, expression recognition, face image compression and reconstruction, face cartoon, etc. This paper attempts to give an overview of the latest development in this field by classifying the newly proposed methods into five categories, namely the ones based on knowledge, geometry information, color, appearance and relative location. All these methods appeared in related papers or works published on international, as well as Chinese, journals and conferences in recent years. Then their performances in accurate rate, robustness and computational expense are roughly estimated and compared while some discussions about the criteria on which the estimation and comparison bases are provided. At the end of this paper, a prospect of the future development in this field is presented based on the observation of how an effective face feature location system should be build.

Abstract:Nowadays, more and more interest has been shown in the automatic categorization methods to organize media data as there are increasing number of videos data in people daily life. In the image processing domain, clustering method is the backbone of person specific searching and image retrieval from an image sequence or database. This paper presents a fast image clustering algorithm based on human face, which can be used in an identification biometrics or a face classification system for robot vision. Clustering in different image streams has been achieved in unsupervised manner where no prior knowledge about the input sequence is required. For face detection, both the single Gaussian model and skin color segmentation strategies have been employed. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method, 7 different image sequences were used. Experimental results demonstrate that the performance of the proposed method with respect to precision and recall rate is quite satisfactory. Compared with existing methods, the proposed algorithm is more simple and effective.

Abstract:The algorithm of 105 facial feature points localization has been proposed in [1]. In this paper, we studied the stability of these feature points in different photos of the same person, and then we presented an improved face recognition system using these facial feature points to perform face recognition and check duplicate entries in database. All of these analyses and experiments are performed on identity photographs. Experimental results show that our recognition algorithm has obvious improvement in normal face recognition application and also performances satisfactorily in finding out duplicate entries in huge face image database of more than 60,000 items.

Abstract:For years, researchers have made great efforts to find an appropriate face representation for face recognition. A fusion strategy of Local Binary Pattern (LBP) and Gabor filters yields great achievements. LBP is good at coding fine details of facial appearance and texture, whereas Gabor features can encode facial shape and appearance over a range of coarser scales. Despite the great performance, this fusion representation suffers from low effectiveness and resolution variance. In this paper, we propose a novel representation strategy of face images which is fast and robust to resolution variance. We apply dense sampling around each detected feature point, extract Local Difference Feature (LDF) for face representation, then utilize Principal Component Analysis (PCA)+Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) to reduce feature dimension and finally use cosine similarity evaluation for recognition. We have utilized our proposed face representation strategy on two databases, namely self-collected Second Generation ID Card of China and Driver׳s License (SGIDCDL) database and public Facial Recognition Technology (FERET) database. Our experimental results show that the proposed strategy has good performance on face recognition with fast speed.

Abstract:Face retrieval has received much attention over the past few decades, and many efforts have been made in retrieving face images against pose, illumination, and expression variations. However, the conventional works fail to meet the requirements of a potential and novel task --- retrieving a person's face image at a specific age, especially when the specific 'age' is not given as a numeral, i.e. 'retrieving someone's image at the similar age period shown by another person's image'. To tackle this problem, we propose a dual reference face retrieval framework in this paper, where the system takes two inputs: an identity reference image which indicates the target identity and an age reference image which reflects the target age. In our framework, the raw images are first projected on a joint manifold, which preserves both the age and identity locality. Then two similarity metrics of age and identity are exploited and optimized by utilizing our proposed quartet-based model. The experiments show promising results, outperforming hierarchical methods.

Abstract:This paper proposes a novel high resolution face recognition method based on skin texture feature.In this method,texture features are extracted based on facial contour,and Gabor wavelets are exploited to extractive skin texture features.It introduces a feature matching algorithm based on texture regional relevance.The proposed method is evaluated on the experiment of FRGC v2.0 and obtains 97.8% verification rate at False Accept Rate(FAR) is 0.1%,which is comparable to the best known results.It shows the face recognition performance can be significantly increased with the use of high resolution image.
