Abstract:An efficient algorithm of bounding interval triangular B-B (Bernstein-Beier) surfaces with lower degree interval triangular B-B surfaces is presented. The algorithm is based on linear programming techniques. An analytical method is also given for degree reduction of one order. The result of degree reduction approximation can be used for the purpose of data transmission among various CAD systems, as well as for the saving of computation time for some geometric operations.

Abstract:In practical applications, we usually use surfaces of lower degree and less number of patches to interpolate irregular data points so that operations applied on these surfaces can run efficiently and robustly. In this paper, we propose a recursive and adaptive method to construct a (first order geometric continuity) cubic triangular Bernstein-Bezier surface over an arbitrary triangulation derived from a given set of irregular data points. For a surface triangulation of n sample points in 3D spaces, a monotonic sequence of triangulations is constructed by removing a boundary vertex P and all triangles sharing with P at each step, where is composed of a single triangle. Abstract:Subdivision curves are always generated by repeated approximation or interpolation from an initial control polygon.A new geometric subdivision scheme is proposed for curve design by corner cutting.Instead of cutting corners by beeline,every corner is cut by a polyline.It is shown that curves generated by this scheme have the similar properties such as convexity preserving property,convex hull property as Bezier curves.Several parameters are used for the control of the subdivision process,and the influence of every parameter is local.It is shown that the subdivision curve is C~1 when the parameters lie within a certain range.Moreover,circles can be generated by the new scheme explicitly.

Abstract:An algorithm is proposed to give a global approximation of an implicit real plane algebraic curve with rational quadratic B-spline curves. The algorithm consists of four steps: topology determination, curve segmentation, segment approximation and curve tracing. Due to the detailed geometric analysis, high accuracy of approximation may be achieved with a small number of quadratic segments. The final approximation keeps many important geometric features of the original curve such as the topology, convexity and sharp points. Our method is implemented and experiments show that it may achieve better approximation bound with less segments than previously known methods. We also extend the method to approximate spatial algebraic curves.

Abstract:By extending the normal based subdivision scheme for curve and surface design,a new algorithm for image interpolation is proposed in this paper.The images will be zoomed in by interpolatory subdivision and no intermediate continuous surface model should be established.With proper choices of the subdivision parameters,images can be interpolated with any positive real scale while edges and borders within images can be kept well.Examples and comparisons with some other image interpolation methods show that the new image interpolation algorithm has the advantage of good edge preservation,linear complexity and easy implementation.

Abstract:A theorem regarding the termination criterion for subdivision of triangular Bezier patch is presented with detailed proof. As the number of times for subdividing a triangular Bezier patch can be a determined prior, according to the given tolerance, the subdividing process can be conduced consecutively without checking for linearity after each subdivision. Abstract:C-Bézier curves are an extension of cubic Bézier curves. In addition to having many properties that Bézier curves have, they have the adjustable shape parameter, α, and can represent arcs precisely. This paper presents the subdivision algorithm and G1 condition of C-Bézier curves based on the analysis of C-Bézier basis functions and terminal properties. The results have definite geometric meanings that are useful for the shape modification and representation of C-Bézier curves. The results can also be extended to surface modeling with C-Bézier.

By using operator representation of Bezier surface and re-parametrization techniques, this paper presents Bezier re-presentation of a sub-patch which is defined on a quadrilateral in domain of a Bezier surface; the new control points can be computed from the control points of original surface by an explicit formula. The traditional subdivision method and the generalized subdivision method are special cases of this theorem.

Abstract:A new stationary corner-cutting subdivision scheme is presented for quadrilateral meshes, which differs from the Doo-Sabin subdivision. The number of quadrilaterals increases in every step by a factor of 2 instead of 4. Applying the subdivision twice is the same as one dyadic dual subdivision and a rotation. The dual subdivision scheme in this paper adopts linear subdivision plus the twice repeated averaging operation, so the resulting surface is C~1 continuous. The simplicity in geometric operation and the slow topological refinement make the subdivision scheme described in this paper more suitable for many applications, such as 3D image reconstruction and network transmission.

Abstract:Great efforts have been devoted to seamless quadrangulation of triangular mesh for its practical application in constructing surface patches. This type of algorithm sets up a parameterization on the triangular mesh and a re-meshing is carried out then to the quadrangulate mesh. The paper proposes a novel algorithm to quad- segment the triangular mesh. Our algorithm combines the techniques of parameterization with re-triangulation and clustering which segment the triangular mesh instead of re- meshing based on the parameterization results. Thus the algorithm avoids the process of solving linear systems of equations and local parameterization for adjusments. Also, the robustness of the algorithms is enhanced because ofthe possible ill-conditioned status of linear systems of equations arises in the previous algorithms. Abstract:This paper presents a novel algorithm for computing the area formulation of simple irregular polygons with arc based on the requirements of the house estate management department. The algorithm proposed has two advantages over other algorithms, higher precision and more comprehensible area formulation. Distinguished from other algorithms, it is able to process the irregular polygons with arcs. This algorithm has been successfully implemented in the 'intelligent house area check and proportion CAD system', applied in the department of Haining house estate management, Zhejiang province.

Abstract:In CAD analysis of geometric shapes, triangular Bezier surfaces are more difficult to use than rectangular Bezier patches. This paper introduces two algorithms for triangular Bezier surfaces. The first algorithm describes two methods including the small curvature surface fitting method and the large curvature surface fitting method. The second algorithm proposes a method to explicitly transform a rectangular Bezier patch mesh into an equivalent triangular Bezier patch. A recursion equation can be used to increase the triangular Bezier patch mesh density. Triangular Bezier surface algorithms are useful for engineers engaged in reverse engineering and have been validated in colour CRT correcting lens design.

Abstract:An explicit formula is developed to decompose a rational triangular Bézier patch into three non-degenerate rational rectangular Bézier patches of the same degree. This formula yields a stable algorithm to compute the control vertices of those, three rectangular subpatches. Some properties of the subdivision are discussed and the formula is illustrated with an example.

Abstract:In curve and surface modeling, Bernstein polynomial compositions are widely used for various geometric operations. So it is important to investigate them both in theory and practice. The problems are investigated by using polynomial interpolation and symbolic computation, and the proposed method is applied for curve and surface cases. Compared with two existing methods, the proposed method has the advantages on computational cost, coding efficiency, storage cost. However its numerical accuracy is lower than the method based on the generalized de Casteljau algorithm.

Abstract:This paper presents a new interpolatory subdivision scheme for quadrilateral meshes based on a 1–4 splitting operator. The scheme generates surfaces coincident with those of the Kobbelt interpolatory subdivision scheme for regular meshes. A new group of rules are designed for computing newly inserted vertices around extraordinary vertices. As an extension of the regular masks,the new rules are derived based on a reinterpretation of the regular masks. Eigen‐structure analysis demonstrates that subdivision surfaces generated using the new scheme are C1 continuous and, in addition, have bounded curvature.

Abstract:This paper presents a \(\sqrt2\)subdivision scheme for quadrilateral meshes that can be regarded as an extension of a 4-8 subdivision with new subdivision rules and improved capability and performance. The proposed scheme adopts a so-called \(\sqrt2\)split operator to refine a control mesh such that the face number of the refined mesh generally equals the edge number and is thus about twice the face number of the coarse mesh. Smooth rules are designed in reference to the 4-8 subdivision, while a new set of weights is developed to balance the flatness of surfaces at vertices of different valences. Compared to the 4-8 subdivision, the presented scheme can be naturally generalized for arbitrary control nets and is more efficient in both space and computing time management. Analysis shows that limit surfaces produced by the scheme are C4 continuous for regular control meshes and G1 continuous at extraordinary vertices.
