Abstract:Content-based image retrieval (CBIR) has been an active research topic in the last decade. Feature extraction and representation is one of the most important issues in the CBIR. In this paper, we propose a content-based image retrieval method based on an efficient integration of color and texture features. As its color features, pseudo-Zernike chromaticity distribution moments in opponent chromaticity space are used. As its texture features, rotation-invariant and scale-invariant image descriptor in steerable pyramid domain are adopted, which offers an efficient and flexible approximation of early processing in the human visual system. The integration of color and texture information provides a robust feature set for color image retrieval. Experimental results show that the proposed method yields higher retrieval accuracy than some conventional methods even though its feature vector dimension is not higher than those of the latter for different test DBs.

Abstract:Color is a kind of significant features in image retrieval. A new kind of image feature, namely Dominant Color Moment (DCM), which reflects spatial information of Dominant Color (DC), is taken into account. A feature model of DC features is also established. Several methods of similarity measurement based on the improvement of quadric form distance function are presented and compared. One of these methods, DCME, shows good effect in the CBIR experimental system implemented by means of WWW distribution.

Abstract:This paper presents a method to extract color and texture features of an image quickly for content-based image retrieval (CBIR). First, HSV color space is quantified rationally. Color histogram and texture features based on a co-occurrence matrix are extracted to form feature vectors. Then the characteristics of the global color histogram, local color histogram and texture features are compared and analyzed for CBIR. Based on these works, a CBIR system is designed using color and texture fused features by constructing weights of feature vectors. The relevant retrieval experiments show that the fused features retrieval brings better visual feeling than the single feature retrieval, which means better retrieval results.

Abstract:With the rapid growth of image database, content-based image retrieval (CBIR) technology with its high value in theory and application has become a hot topic in the field of image processing. A retrieval method which combines color and texture feature is proposed in this paper. According to the characteristic of the image texture, we can represent the information of texture by fusion algorithm combines Gabor transform and edge histogram. The color histogram in HSV color space is chosen as the color feature, and the blocking and fuzzy color histogram is proposed in this paper. The experiment results show that this method is more efficient than the traditional CBIR method based on the single visual feature and method combining color and texture like CEDD.

Abstract:Content-based medical image retrieval(CBMIR) has been one of the most vivid research areas in medical image process.This paper attempts to provide a comprehensive survey of the typical CBMIR systems,including low-level image feature extraction,retrieval objective,and application areas,and also discuss some existing deficiencies such as poor portability,limitations of 2D image retrieval and imperfect retrieval performance evaluation methods.Based on these analysis,a multistage and multi-features medical image retrieval system framework has been designed,which not only combines text-based with content-based retrieval,but also integrates local-based ROI features with global image feature,as well as 2D features with 3D features.It aims to improve the accuracy rate of medical image retrieval effectively and meet the needs of different users.

Abstract:Feature extraction and representation is one of the most important issues in the content-based image retrieval. In this paper, we propose a new content-based image retrieval technique using color and texture information, which achieves higher retrieval efficiency. Firstly, the image is transformed from RGB space to opponent chromaticity space, and the characteristics of the color contents of an image is captured by using Zernike chromaticity distribution moments from the chromaticity space. Secondly, the texture features are extracted using a rotation-invariant and scale-invariant image descriptor in Contourlet domain, which offers an efficient and flexible approximation of early processing in the human visual system. Finally, the combination of the color and texture information provides a robust feature set for color image retrieval. Experimental results show that the proposed color image retrieval is more accurate and efficient in retrieving the user-interested images.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose an effective content-based image retrieval (CBIR) method, based on textural features. Compared with color and shape features, texture features can indicate the spatial distribution of the pixels in an image. Firstly, gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) is constructed, which indicates the associated probability density of two different neighboring pixels. Secondly, we extract several features from the GLCM and index the feature vectors. Then the wanted images can be efficiently retrieved from the image database by measuring the similarity between the query image and others based on a matching rule, such as the Minkowski-form distance metrics.

Abstract:Due to the recent technology development, the multimedia complexity is noticeably increased and new research areas are opened relying on similar multimedia content retrieval. Content-based image retrieval (CBIR) systems are used for the retrieval of images related to the Query Image (QI) from huge databases. The CBIR systems available today have confined efficiency as they extract only limited feature sets. This paper demonstrates the extraction of vast robust and important features from the images database and the storage of these features in the repository in the form of feature vectors. The feature repository contains color signature, the shape features and texture features. Here, features are extracted from specific QI. Accordingly, an innovative similarity evaluation with a metaheuristic algorithm (genetic algorithm with simulating annealing) has been attained between the QI features and those belonging to the database images. For an image entered as QI from a database, the distance metrics are used to search the related images, which is the main idea of CBIR. The proposed CBIR techniques are described and constructed based on RGB color with neutrosophic clustering algorithm and Canny edge method to extract shape features, YCbCr color with discrete wavelet transform and Canny edge histogram to extract color features, and gray-level co-occurrence matrix to extract texture features. The combination of these methods increases the image retrieval framework performance for content-based retrieval. Furthermore, the results' precision–recall value is calculated to evaluate the system's efficiency. The CBIR system proposed demonstrates better precision and recall values compared to other state-of-the-art CBIR systems.

Abstract:Color and texture information are two important visual features of an image. In this paper, an efficient content-based image retrieval system is proposed based on color and texture feature. The color feature is extracted by quantifying the HSV color space into non-equal intervals and the color feature is represented by color histogram. Texture feature is obtained by local binary pattern (LBP). When computing the similarity between query image and target images in the database, Gaussian normalization is exploited on the feature space and distant space. And then the linear combination of normalized distances for color and texture is performed to obtain the similarity as the index of image. The exhaustive search scheme is used for retrieval, and the evaluation criterion is precision and recall about the number of returned images. The results of experiments demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed system.

Abstract:One of the challenges in the development of a content-based image indexing and retrieval application is to achieve an efficient and robust indexing scheme. Color is a fundamental image feature used in content-based image retrieval (CBIR) systems. This paper proposes a robust and effective image retrieval scheme, which is based on the weighed color histogram of visual attention points. Firstly, the fully affine invariant visual attention points are extracted from the origin color image by using the Affine-SIFT (scale-invariant feature transform) detector. Secondly, according to the color complexity measure (CCM) theory, the visual weight values for the significant visual attention points are calculated to reflect the image local variation. Then, the weighed color histogram of visual attention points is constructed. Finally, the similarity between color images is computed by using the weighed color histogram of visual attention points. Experimental results show that the proposed image retrieval is not only more accurate and efficient in retrieving the user-interested images, but also yields higher retrieval accuracy than some state-of-the-art image retrieval schemes for various test DBs.
