Abstract:An adaptive iterative learning control scheme is presented for a class of strict-feedback nonlinear time-delay systems, with unknown nonlinearly parameterised and time-varying disturbed functions of known periods. Radial basis function neural network and Fourier series expansion (FSE) are combined into a new function approximator to model each suitable disturbed function in systems. The requirement of the traditional iterative learning control algorithm on the nonlinear functions (such as global Lipschitz condition) is relaxed. Furthermore, by using appropriate Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals, all signs in the closed loop system are guaranteed to be semiglobally uniformly ultimately bounded, and the output of the system is proved to converge to the desired trajectory. A simulation example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the control scheme.

Abstract:In this technical note, we consider adaptive learning control problem for a class of nonlinear systems with periodic bounded disturbances. The bounds of the disturbance are unknown, and the minimum period T* of the disturbance can be written as T* = l* τ , with τ being a known constant and l* being an unknown integer. Our proposed adaptive controller consists of a learning law and two kinds of parameter tuning mechanisms: one is the conventional parameter update law, and the other is a logic-based switching mechanism which tunes in a switching manner the saturation level and the period in the learning law. It has been proved that under our proposed control all closed-loop states are bounded and asymptotic regulation is achieved.

Abstract:This brief aims at the issue of globally composite-learning-based neural fast finite-time (F-FnT) tracking control for a class of uncertain systems in strict-feedback form subject to nonlinearly periodic disturbances. First, uncertain dynamics with periodic parameters are identified by incorporating Fourier series expansion (FSE) into an intelligent estimator, which leverages the feedback of newly designed prediction errors in updating weights to boost learning performance. Then, a novel switching mechanism is constructed to fulfill smooth switching from the composite FSE-based neural controller to robust control law when the inputs of the intelligent estimator transcend the valid approximation domain. By fusing the switching mechanism with an improved F-FnT backstepping algorithm, the globally F-FnT boundedness of all variables in the closed-loop system is guaranteed. Finally, a simulation study is conducted to evince the availability of the theoretical result.

Abstract:An adaptive iterative learning control method is proposed for a class of nonlinear strict-feedback discrete-time systems with random initial conditions and iteration-varying desired trajectories. An n-step ahead predictor approach is employed to estimate the future states in the control design. Discrete Nussbaum gain method is utilised to deal with the lack of a priori knowledge of control directions. The proposed control algorithm guarantees the boundedness of all the signals in the controlled system. The tracking error converges to zero asymptotically along the iterative learning axis except for beginning states affected by random initial conditions. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is verified through numerical simulation.

Abstract:This paper considers the design of iterative learning control for a class of nonaffine nonlinear discrete-time systems which can perform a repeated task over a finite time sequence. A new error model formulation is derived such that an unknown nonlinearity can be approximated by a fuzzy system with available input and output signals. The function approximation error and external random disturbance are then compensated by an auxiliary error with dead zone like design. The fuzzy consequent parameter vector and the boundary layer of dead zone are updated for the next iteration in order to guarantee the learning error convergence. It is shown that output error will converge to a region around zero whose size depends on the width of boundary layer if the learning gains of adaptive laws satisfy a sufficient condition.

Abstract:A new adaptive learning control approach is proposed for a class of first-order nonlinear systems with two unknown time-varying parameters and an unknown time-varying delay. By reconstructing the system equation, all unknown time-varying terms, including the time-varying delay, are combined into an unknown periodic time-varying vector, which is estimated by a periodic adaptive mechanism. By constructing a Lyapunov-Krasovskii-like composite energy function (CEF), we prove the boundedness of all signals and the convergence of the tracking error. The results are extended to two classes of high-order nonlinear systems with mixed parameters. Three simulation examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the control algorithms proposed in this paper.

Abstract:Due to the existence of strong nonlinearity and external disturbances, the controller design of complex nonlinear systems is a challenging problem. Therefore, it is necessary to design an effective robust predictive controller for this issue. In this article, based on a fuzzy neural network, an iterative learning model predictive control (FNN-ILMPC) is designed for complex nonlinear systems. First, a dynamic linearization technique is used to establish a data-driven model, which only relies on input and output data. Since the established model contains an unknown disturbance term that may have an impact on the control performance, an FNN is used to evaluate the disturbance so that the uncertainty of the system is captured. Subsequently, based on the above data-driven model, an FNN-ILMPC strategy, considering the impact of external disturbances, is developed to eliminate the influence of disturbances. Then, it is proved that the designed controller can make both modeling error and tracking error decrease gradually and ensure the closed-loop system stability. Finally, the experimental results verify the effectiveness and superiority of the designed controller.

Abstract:The paper proposed an adaptive iterative learning control (AILC) strategy for the unmatched uncertain time‐varying nonparameterized nonlinear systems (NPNL systems). Addressing the difficulty of nonlinear parameterization terms in system models, a new function approximator (FSE‐RBFNN) which is combined with radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) and Fourier series expansion (FSE) is introduced to model each time‐varying nonlinear parameterization function. Using adaptive backstepping method to design control laws and parameter adaptive laws. As the number of iterations increases, the maximum tracking error gradually decreases until it converges to zero on the entire given interval [0, T] according to the Lyapunov‐like synthesis. A updated time‐varying boundary layer is introduced to eliminating the impact of initial state errors. Introducing a series to deal with the unknown error upper bounds. Finally, two simulation examples demonstrate the correctness of the proposed control method.

Abstract:This article investigates an adaptive finite-time neural control for a class of strict feedback nonlinear systems with multiple objective constraints. In order to solve the main challenges brought by the state constraints and the emergence of finite-time stability, a new barrier Lyapunov function is proposed for the first time, not only can it solve multiobjective constraints effectively but also ensure that all states are always within the constraint intervals. Second, by combining the command filter method and backstepping control, the adaptive controller is designed. What is more, the proposed controller has the ability to avoid the "singularity" problem. The compensation mechanism is introduced to neutralize the error appearing in the filtering process. Furthermore, the neural network is used to approximate the unknown function in the design process. It is shown that the proposed finite-time neural adaptive control scheme achieves a good tracking effect. And each objective function does not violate the constraint bound. Finally, a simulation example of electromechanical dynamic system is given to prove the effectiveness of the proposed finite-time control strategy.

Abstract:The control design method for a class of non-strict feedback nonlinear systems is studied in this brief considering uncertain nonlinearities and unknown non-symmetrical input dead-zone. Combining with the finite-time command filtered backstepping (FCFB) technique, a novel finite-time adaptive control approach is proposed in which a neural network-based methodology is adopted to cope with the uncertain nonlinearities in the non-strict feedback form. The input dead-zone model is transformed into a simple linear system with unknown gain and bounded disturbance which is estimated by an adaptive factor. Using the finite-time Lyapunov theory, the system convergence is proved. And the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is verified through comparative numerical simulations.

Abstract:First of all, an adaptive iterative learning control strategy is developed for a class of nonlinearly parameterized systems with two unknown time-varying parameters and one unknown time-varying delay. The proposed control law includes a PID-type feedback term in time domain and an adaptive learning term used to estimate the unknown time-varying vector in iteration domain. By constructing a Lyapunov-Krasovskii-like composite energy function, we prove the stability of the closed-loop system and the convergence of the tracking error. Then, the design idea is further extended to a broader class of systems with mixed parameters in which the unknown time-invariant vector is estimated by a PI-type learning law in time domain. The simulation results, for a time-delay chaotic system, confirm the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

Abstract:In this article, an adaptive iterative learning control scheme is presented for a class of nonlinear parametric strict-feedback systems with unknown state delays, aiming to achieve the point-wise tracking of desired trajectory in a finite interval. The appropriate Lyapunov-Krasovskii functions are established to compensate the influence of time-delay uncertainties on the control systems. As the main features, the proposed approach integrates the command filter into the backstepping procedure to avoid the differential explosion problem that may occur with the increase of system order, and introduces the hyperbolic tangent functions into the learning controller to handle the singularity problem thus maintaining the continuity of input signal. The results of theoretical analysis and numerical simulation demonstrate that the tracking errors at the entire period will converge to a compact set along the iteration axis. Compared with the existing works, the proposed control scheme is promising to manifest the better performance and practicability owing to the learning mechanism, the dynamic model, as well as the implementation of controller.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a new adaptive iterative learning controller for a class of discrete-time nonlinear systems with iteration-varying uncertainties including initial tracking error, system parameters and external disturbance. The learning objective is to control the nonlinear system to track an iteration-varying desired trajectory after suitable numbers of learning iterations. The main challenge for the iterative learning control design is that all the system parameters are iteration-varying. After separating the system parameters into a pure time-varying component and an iteration-varying component, the system dynamics are divided into an iteration-independent nominal part and an iteration-dependent uncertain part. An adaptive iterative learning controller is then designed to control the nominal dynamics and an iteration-varying boundary layer with dead-zone like auxiliary error is proposed to compensate for the iteration-varying uncertainties. The control parameters and the width of boundary layer are updated from trial to trial in order to guarantee the stability and convergence of the learning system. In addition to ensure the boundedness of control signals for each iteration and each time instant, we also prove that the norm of output error will asymptotically converge to a residual set whose size depends on the width of boundary layer as iteration number goes to infinity.

The backstepping design technique is used to deal with system dynamics with non-global Lipschitz nonlinearities and the approach proposed in this paper solves the non-uniform trajectory tracking problem. Based on the Lyapunov-like synthesis, the proposed method shows that all signals in the closed-loop system remain bounded over a pre-specified time interval (0 ,T ). And perfect non-uniform trajectory tracking of the system output is completed. A typical series is introduced in order to deal with the unknown bound of remainder term. Finally, a simulation example shows the feasibility and effectiveness of the approach.

Abstract:This brief addresses the problem of designing adaptive neural network tracking control for a class of strict-feedback systems with unknown time-varying disturbances of known periods which nonlinearly appear in unknown functions. Multilayer neural network (MNN) and Fourier series expansion (FSE) are combined into a novel approximator to model each uncertainty in systems. Dynamic surface control (DSC) approach and integral-type Lyapunov function (ILF) technique are combined to design the control algorithm. The ultimate uniform boundedness of all closed-loop signals is guaranteed. The tracking error is proved to converge to a small residual set around the origin. Two simulation examples are provided to illustrate the feasibility of control scheme proposed in this brief.
