Abstract:Data center networks (DCNs) are prevalent and essential to provide a myriad of big data analytics for data-intensive applications with requirements of high stability and low latency. To satisfy these demands, Data Center Transmission Control Protocol (DCTCP) has been proposed to replace Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) in handling switches with high speed links and low round-trip time (RTT) in DCN. In this letter, we analyze the network stability and RTT in a simplified DCTCP fluid model to better control DCN stability. Numerical results demonstrate that the network stays stable if RTT is smaller than a critical value which is the Hopf bifurcation point. In other words, once RTT exceeds this critical value, the network will become unstable. We further analyze the effect of other parameters to stability, while shedding a light on ways to adjust and control the stability for stability-sensitive services.
