Abstract:We provide local recognition results for the reflection graphs on spherical Coxeter groups. In particular, we study the case $F_4$ which is locally recognizable under additional constraints only. It is then demonstrated in the cases $A_n$ and $F_4$ how these graph theoretical recognition results can be used to characterize the corresponding Coxeter groups in terms of their reflection centralizers. Finally, we outline the connection to the local recognition of Chevalley groups which is particularly important in the classification of the finite simple groups.

Abstract:We describe the applications of localization methods, in particular the functorial localization formula, in the proofs of several conjectures from string theory. The functorial localization formula pushes the computations on complicated moduli spaces to simple moduli spaces. It is a key technique in the proof of the general mirror formula, the proof of the Hori-Vafa formula for explicit expressions of basic hypergeornetric series of homogeneous manifolds, and the proof of the Marino-Vafa formula for Hodge integrals. The proposal of Strominger-Yau-Zaslow of mirror symmetry will also be discussed.

Abstract:Let $W$ be a finite Coxeter group. We classify the reflection subgroups of $W$ up to conjugacy and give necessary and sufficient conditions for the map that assigns to a reflection subgroup $R$ of $W$ the conjugacy class of its Coxeter elements to be injective, up to conjugacy.

Abstract:We investigate representations of Coxeter groups into $\mathrm{GL}(n,\mathbb{R})$ as geometric reflection groups which are convex cocompact in the projective space $\mathbb{P}(\mathbb{R}^n)$. We characterize which Coxeter groups admit such representations, and we fully describe the corresponding spaces of convex cocompact representations as reflection groups, in terms of the associated Cartan matrices. The Coxeter groups that appear include all infinite, word hyperbolic Coxeter groups; for such groups the representations as reflection groups that we describe are exactly the projective Anosov ones. We also obtain a large class of nonhyperbolic Coxeter groups, thus providing many examples for the theory of nonhyperbolic convex cocompact subgroups in $\mathbb{P}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ developed in arXiv:1704.08711.
Mirror Symmetry for Special Nilpotent Orbit Closures

Abstract:Motivated by geometric Langlands, we initiate a program to study the mirror symmetry between nilpotent orbit closures of a semisimple Lie algebra and those of its Langlands dual. The most interesting case is $B_n$ via $C_n$. Classically, there is a famous Springer duality between special orbits. Therefore, it is natural to speculate that the mirror symmetry we seek may coincide with Springer duality in the context of special orbits. Unfortunately, such a naive statement fails. To remedy the situation, we propose a conjecture which asserts the mirror symmetry for certain parabolic/induced covers of special orbits. Then, we prove the conjecture for Richardson orbits and obtain certain partial results in general. In the process, we reveal some very interesting and yet subtle structures of these finite covers, which are related to Lusztig's canonical quotients of special nilpotent orbits. For example, there is a mysterious asymmetry in the footprint or range of degrees of these finite covers. Finally, we provide two examples to show that the mirror symmetry fails outside the footprint.

Abstract:In this paper we study affine reflection subgroups in arbitrary infinite Coxeter groups of finite rank. In particular, we study the distribution of roots of Coxeter groups in the root subsystems associated with affine reflection subgroups. We give a characterization of limit roots arising from affine reflection subgroups. We also give a characterization of when a Coxeter group may possess affine reflection subgroups. We show that the intersection of the normalized isotropic cone (associated with the Tits representation of a Coxeter group) and the imaginary cone consists of limit roots closely related to affine reflection subgroups.

Abstract:Real physical systems with reflective and rotational symmetries such as viruses, fullerenes and quasicrystals have recently been modeled successfully in terms of three-dimensional (affine) Coxeter groups. Motivated by this progress, we explore here the benefits of performing the relevant computations in a Geometric Algebra framework, which is particularly suited to describing reflections. Starting from the Coxeter generators of the reflections, we describe how the relevant chiral (rotational), full (Coxeter) and binary polyhedral groups can be easily generated and treated in a unified way in a versor formalism. In particular, this yields a simple construction of the binary polyhedral groups as discrete spinor groups. These in turn are known to generate Lie and Coxeter groups in dimension four, notably the exceptional groups D4, F4 and H4. A Clifford algebra approach thus reveals an unexpected connection between Coxeter groups of ranks 3 and 4. We discuss how to extend these considerations and computations to the Conformal Geometric Algebra setup, in particular for the non-crystallographic groups, and construct root systems and quasicrystalline point arrays. We finally show how a Clifford versor framework sheds light on the geometry of the Coxeter element and the Coxeter plane for the examples of the twodimensional non-crystallographic Coxeter groups I2(n) and the threedimensional groups A3, B3, as well as the icosahedral group H3. Abstract:We study and classify a class of representations (called generalized geometric representations) of a Coxeter group of finite rank. These representations can be viewed as a natural generalization of the geometric representation. The classification is achieved by using characters of the integral homology group of certain graphs closely related to the Coxeter graph. On this basis, we also provide an explicit description of those representations on which the defining generators of the Coxeter group act by reflections.

Abstract:Complex reflection groups comprise a generalization of Weyl groups of semisimple Lie algebras, and even more generally of finite Coxeter groups. They have been heavily studied since their introduction and complete classification in the 1950s by Shephard and Todd, due to their many applications to combinatorics, representation theory, knot theory, and mathematical physics, to name a few examples. For each given complex reflection group G, we explain a new recipe for producing an integrable system of linear differential equations whose differential Galois group is precisely G. We exhibit these systems explicitly for many (low-rank) irreducible complex reflection groups in the Shephard-Todd classification.

Abstract:We refine Brink’s theorem, that the non-reflection part of a reflection centralizer in a Coxeter group W is a free group. We give an explicit set of generators for the centralizer, which is finitely generated when W is. And we give a method for computing the Coxeter diagram for its reflection subgroup. In many cases, our method allows one to compute centralizers in one’s head.

Abstract:We show how Coxeter's work implies a bijection between complex reflection groups of rank two and real reflection groups in $O(3)$. We also consider this magic square of reflections and rotations in the framework of Clifford algebras: we give an interpretation using (s)pin groups and explore these groups in small dimensions.

Abstract:In a recent paper by K.-H. Lee and K. Lee, rigid reflections are defined for any Coxeter group via non-self-intersecting curves on a Riemann surface with labeled curves. When the Coxeter group arises from an acyclic quiver, the rigid reflections are related to the rigid representations of the quiver. For a family of rank $3$ Coxeter groups, it was conjectured in the same paper that there is a natural bijection from the set of reduced positive roots of a symmetric rank $2$ Kac--Moody algebra onto the set of rigid reflections of the corresponding rank $3$ Coxeter group. In this paper, we prove the conjecture.

Abstract:Abstract Suppose that W is a finite, unitary, reflection group acting on the complex vector space V and X is a subspace of V . Define N to be the setwise stabilizer of X in W , Z to be the pointwise stabilizer, and C = N / Z . Then restriction defines a homomorphism from the algebra of W -invariant polynomial functions on V to the algebra of C -invariant functions on X . In this note we consider the special case when W is a Coxeter group, V is the complexified reflection representation of W , and X is in the lattice of the arrangement of W , and give a simple, combinatorial characterization of when the restriction mapping is surjective in terms of the exponents of W and C . As an application of our result, in the case when W is the Weyl group of a semisimple, complex Lie algebra, we complete a calculation begun by Richardson in 1987 and obtain a simple combinatorial characterization of regular decomposition classes whose closure is a normal variety.

Abstract:A Coxeter group W is called reflection independent if its reflections are uniquely determined by W only, independently on the choice of the generating set. We give a new sufficient condition for the reflection independence, and examine this condition for Coxeter groups in certain classes, possibly of infinite ranks. We also determine the finite irreducible components of another Coxeter group, that is a subgroup of W generated by the reflections centralizing a given generator of W. Determining such a subgroup makes our criterion efficient.

Abstract:We study the reflections of locally free Caldero–Chapoton functions associated to representations of Geiß–Leclerc–Schröer's quivers with relations for symmetrizable Cartan matrices. We prove that for rank 2 cluster algebras, non-initial cluster variables are expressed as locally free Caldero–Chapoton functions of locally free indecomposable rigid representations. Our method gives rise to a new proof of the locally free Caldero–Chapoton formulas obtained by Geiß–Leclerc–Schröer in Dynkin cases. For general acyclic skew-symmetrizable cluster algebras, we prove the formula for any non-initial cluster variable obtained by almost sink and source mutations.

Local recognition of the point graphs of some Lie incidence geometries

Abstract:Given a finite Lie incidence geometry which is either a polar space of rank at least $3$ or a strong parapolar space of symplectic rank at least $4$ and diameter at most $4$, or the parapolar space arising from the line Grassmannian of a projective space of dimension at least $4$, we show that its point graph is determined by its local structure. This follows from a more general result which classifies graphs whose local structure can vary over all local structures of the point graphs of the aforementioned geometries. In particular, this characterises the strongly regular graphs arising from the line Grassmannian of a finite projective space, from the half spin geometry related to the quadric $Q^+(10,q)$ and from the exceptional group of type $\mathsf{E_6}(q)$ by their local structure.

Abstract:Given a reflection $r$ in a Coxeter group $W$ (possibly of infinite rank), we consider the subgroup of $W$ generated by the reflections in $W$ having (-1)-eigenvectors orthogonal to the (-1)-eigenvector of $r$. In this paper, we determine completely when this subgroup is finitely generated, by using preceding results on centralizers of reflections. This result provides a new and naturally constructed example of a family of non-finitely generated subgroups of finitely generated groups.

Abstract:Assuming standard conjectures, we show that the canonical symmetrizing trace evaluated at powers of a Coxeter element produces rational Catalan numbers for irreducible spetsial complex reflection groups. This extends a technique used by Galashin, Lam, Trinh, and Williams to uniformly prove the enumeration of their noncrossing Catalan objects for finite Coxeter groups.
