Abstract:The Cu(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne click polymerization has become a powerful tool for the preparation of functional polytriazoles. However, copper residues in the products could harm the performance of optoelectronic devices and be cytotoxic in biological applications. The complete removal of these residues after reaction from the polymers is therefore necessary but difficult. The metal-free azide-alkyne click polymerization (MFCP) provides a solution to this problem. Currently, the MFCP is facilitated by activated alkynes, and no activated comonomer, i.e. azide, has been reported. In this paper, an activated azide, 4,4'-diazidoperfluorobenzophenone , was designed and synthesized. Compared to the ordinary azide, such a monomer can remarkably accelerate the MFCP with alkynes. Thus, a new MFCP of activated azide and alkyne was established, and polytriazoles with high regioregularity (fraction of 1,4-isomer higher than 82%) and satisfactory molecular weights (M-w up to 34 000) were produced in high yields (up to 95.1%).

Abstract:Cu-II-catalysed diazo transfer and Cu-I-catalysed azide-alkyne 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition (CuAAC) "click chemistry" were used to synthesis C7N aminocyclitol-derivatised 1,2,3-triazoles. In the course of this work, the -N=N- moiety was transferred onto C7N aminocyclitols such as validamine, valienamine and valiolamine by employing imidazole-1-sulfonyl azide as the diazo transfer reagent with catalysis by Cu-II, Zn-II and Ni-II, in moderate to good yields. The obtained azidocyclitols were coupled with various terminal alkynes under modified Meldal's conditions with good to excellent yields. The stereo- and regiochemistry of the products were confirmed by 2D-NMR (NOESY and HMBC). One-pot syntheses of the corresponding 1,2,3-triazoles, as safer and more efficient procedures, were also investigated and gave moderate to good yields.

Abstract:The transition-metal catalyzed and metal-free click polymerizations have been developed as powerful tools for the construction of functional polymers with linear and hyperbranched structures. The latter provides a thorough solution for the completely removing metallic residues from the products encountered in the former. Compared to the activated alkyne-azide metal-free click polymerization, the activated azide-alkyne one is rarely studied. In this Communication, a perfluorophenyl-activated azide of hexane-1,6-diyl-bis(4-azido-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzoate) is rationally designed and facilely prepared. Through systematical optimization of the reaction conditions, an efficient metal-free perfluorophenylazide-alkyne polycycloaddition is established, and polytriazoles with high molecular weights (up to 166 000) and excellent solubility are obtained in excellent yields (up to 93%) under mild reaction conditions. Interestingly, the regioselectivity of the reaction could be fine-tuned by the solvents and diyne monomers. Therefore, this work provides not only a powerful tool for the preparation of functional polytriazoles, but also an attractive method for fine-tuning their regioregularity.

Abstract:The 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of azides and active internal alkynes has been well studied, but is rarely utilized as a tool for polymer preparation. In this work, an efficient polymerization route is developed. Polycycloaddition of diazide (4) and bis(benzoylethynyl)-benzenes and -butane (3) at elevated temperature has produced the first examples of soluble 1,4,5-trisubstituted polytriazoles PI with satisfactory molecular weights (Mw up to 16 400) in excellent yields (up to 98.6%). All the obtained polymers are thermally stable, losing merely 5% of their weights at temperatures higher than 367 degrees C. They exhibit higher refractive indices than some commercial plastics and can be crosslinked upon UV irradiation to generate a 3D photopattern with high resolution. The metal-free feature of such a methodology offers a facile tool to prepare functional materials free from the contamination of metal species.

Abstract:A new bis(aroylacetylene) containing triazole and fluorene moieties is synthesized by click chemistry. Polycyclotrimerization of the monomer is catalyzed by piperidine in refluxed dioxane, furnishing a regioregular poly(aroylarylene) in a satisfactory yield. The hyperbranched structure of the polymer is characterized spectroscopically with satisfactory results. The polymer enjoys no metal detriment and is soluble in common organic solvents such as tetrahydrofuran (THF), chloroform, dichloromethane (DCM), and N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF).

Abstract:Herein, we describe a novel and green route for the direct synthesis of vinyl triazole derivatives with alkynes and triazoles promoted by an inorganic base under transition metal-free conditions. The base shows great catalytic activity for the anti-Markovnikov stereoselective hydroamination of alkynes. Moreover, good yields with excellent functional group tolerance are successfully achieved for a range of substrates, including aryl and heteroaryl groups, terminal alkynes and internal alkynes, and various triazole derivatives. This work presents an advanced concept for the synthesis of alkenyl triazole with a versatile and cost-efficient approach.

Abstract:.Azide-alkyne click polymerization is generally catalyzed by the Cu(I) complex, in which the removal of metallic residues after reaction remains challengeable. In this work, a metal-free click polymerization method was developed to avoid this problem. The diazide monomers (9 and 10) could readily react with aromatic and aliphatic dipropiolates (1 and 2) under simple heating to produce functional poly(aroxycarbonyltriazole)s (PACTs), a kind of polyester, with high molecular weights (M-w up to 23 500) and regioregularities (fraction of 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazole in polymers up to similar to 90%) in excellent yields (up to similar to 99%). The metal-free click polymerization also propagates smoothly in an open atmosphere without protection from oxygen and moisture. The PACTs are thermally stable, with 5% loss of their weights at temperatures higher than 335 degrees C. Thanks to the contained ester groups, the polymers can be rapidly degraded in the presence of potassium hydroxide aqueous solution. The PACT containing tetraphenylethene units exhibits a unique feature of aggregation-induced emission and can function as a fluorescent chemosensor to detect explosives in a superamplified manner.

Abstract:Mediated by 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone (DDQ), a novel oxidative coupling of hydrazones and 1,3-diarylpropenes has been disclosed to generate appealing β,γ-unsaturated hydrazones, which further undergo 5-exo-trig or 6-endo-trig cascade cyclization to give the respective 1,2-dihydropyridazines or pyrazoles selectively under metal-free conditions. Abstract:The metal-free click polymerization (MFCP) of activated alkynes and azides or activated azide and alkynes have been developed into powerful techniques for the construction of polytriazoles without the obsession of metallic catalyst residues problem. However, the MFCP of activated azides and alkynes is rarely applied in preparation of functional polytriazoles. In this paper, soluble multifunctional polytriazoles (PIa and PIb) with high weight-average molecular weights (Mw up to 32 000) are prepared via the developed metal-free poly-cycloaddition of activated azide and alkynes in high yields (up to 90%). The resultant PIa and PIb are thermally stable, and show aggregation-induced emission characteristics, enabling their aggregates to detect explosives with superamplification effect. Moreover, thanks to their containing aromatic rings and polar moieties, PIa and PIb exhibit high refractive indices. In addition, they can also be cross-linked upon UV irradiation to generate 2D fluorescent patterning due to their remaining azide groups and containing ester groups. Thus, these multifunctional poly- triazoles are potentially applicable in the optoelectronic and sensing fields.

Abstract:A novel synthetic approach toward 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles by C-N- and N-N-bond formation has been established under transition-metal-free conditions. Complete control of the regioselectivity was successfully achieved. Commercially available anilines, ketones, and N-tosylhydrazine were treated with molecular iodine in one pot to allow the regioselective generation of 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles in high yields without the use of azides.

Abstract:Developing sequence-defined skeletons that could be conveniently characterized and functionalized with diverse side groups is attractive but challenging. Here we report one novel sequence-defined polytriazole structure bearing side groups at its triazole rings. Its construction was facilely accessed by the iterative employments of azidation and iridium-catalyzed cycloaddition of azide with internal 1-thioalkyne (IrAAC) in solution phase. The easy preparation of 1-thioalkyne monomers and the excellent tolerance of IrAAC enable the introduction of diverse functional side chains to this architecture. The obtained sequence was effectively characterized by tandem mass spectrometry owing to the efficient fractures of both of the Csp(3)-S and Csp(3)-N bonds in its backbone, indicating its potential utilization in high-capacity digital polymer developments. Further successful application of this structure in building monodisperse macromolecules exhibiting aggregation-induced emission (AIE) characteristics demonstrates its expected application in functional material fabrications.
