Abstract:In this paper, an event-based leader-following strategy for synchronization of multi-agent systems (MASs) is considered. A model-based approach is adopted to predict the relative inter-node states between intermittent communications. The predicted values of the relative inter-node states are forwarded to the controller to calculate a piecewise continuous control signal. The communication between two linked agents is triggered according to a protocol based on their control inputs. The proposed leader-following strategy guarantees exponential state synchronization under time-dependent thresholds and bounded state synchronization under constant thresholds, respectively. Furthermore, the elapsed time between any two successive triggering instants for any pair of linked agents is lower bounded by a constant. The communication frequency reduction potential of the proposed leader-following strategy is well demonstrated via a numerical example.

Abstract:This paper studies the tracking control of general linear multi-agent systems with or without time delays. The observer-based event-triggered control schemes will be considered. For the conventional distributed tracking protocol, the authors will not update the relative state in continuous time, i.e., the relative state will be updated by some events which happened in discrete time. A completely decentralized event-trigger will be designed for leader-follower systems. It is shown that all followers can track the leader asymptotically by the proposed protocol, if the feedback gain matrices are designed appropriately. Numerical simulations are also provided and the results show highly consistent with the theoretical results.

Abstract:This paper investigates the leader-following consensus problem for general linear multi-agent systems with time-varying delay. An observer-based distributed triggering mechanism is proposed to solve this problem. For each agent, the update of the designed distributed event-triggered controller only requires the knowledge of its neighbors' states at its own event time instants. A sufficient condition is presented to show that leader-following consensus of the multi-agent system can be reached exponentially. Moreover, the Zeno behavior of the triggering time sequences is excluded naturally. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control schemes is illustrated by a numerical example.

Abstract:By employing event-triggered control technique, this paper investigates the leaderfollowing formation control problem of general linear multi-agent systems with distributed infinite input time delays. To decrease computing costs, a novel event-triggered formation protocol taking into consideration of the distributed infinite time delays between agents is put forward. Under the designed triggering function and triggering condition, a sufficient condition on leader-following formation is obtained, and then the Zeno-behavior of triggering time sequences is excluded for the concerned closed-loop system. The continuous update of controller for each agent is avoided. Finally, the correctness and the effectiveness of these theoretical results are demonstrated by two numerical examples.

Abstract:Multi-agent systems (MAS) have attracted significant attention in recent years due to their wide applications in cooperative control, formation control, synchronization of complex networks, and distributed coordination. A fundamental problem in MAS is the leader-follower consensus or cooperative tracking, where the followers are required to track the state trajectory of the leader agent. To solve the leader-follower consensus problem, we propose a novel evolutionary computation approach to design the optimal distributed control protocols for leader-follower MAS. First, we formulate the design of distributed control gains for leader-follower consensus as an optimization problem to minimize tracking errors. Then, we leverage particle swarm optimization as an efficient evolutionary technique for distributed gain optimization in multi-agent networks. Finally, we guarantee stability for the closed-loop dynamics under directed communication topologies based on algebraic graph theory. The simulation results indicate that the proposed method yields a diminished tracking error, expedites the convergence process, and minimizes the requisite control effort while enhancing computational efficiency. Furthermore, these results exemplify the method's versatility when applied to nonlinear dynamic scenarios, directed network topologies, fluctuating disturbances, and optimization across multiple domains.

Abstract:The leader–follower dynamic event-triggered controller is proposed for multiagent systems (MASs) subject to input time delay under time-varying coupling control gain. To begin with, the Halanay inequality, which is referred to as a delayed differential inequality, is used to deal with the input time-delay leader–follower problem. Second, a time-varying event-triggered control protocol with a dynamic triggering mechanism is adopted to save the communication resources with the satisfaction of state synchronization among agents at an exponential convergence rate. Additionally, a novel dynamic triggering mechanism that does not require continuous communication information among agents is further generated with more trigger times than before. Both dynamic triggering mechanisms show better superiority in excluding Zeno behavior and saving communication resources due to the embedding of a positive dynamic parameter in the triggering mechanisms. Finally, a simulation example and the F16 aircraft systems are presented to demonstrate the availability of the theoretical results.

Abstract:The paper studies formation control of multi-agent systems under a directed acyclic graph. In a directed acyclic graph, the agents without neighbors are leaders and the others are followers. Leaders move in a formation with a time-varying velocity and followers can access the relative positions of their neighbors and the leaders' velocity. A local formation control law is proposed in the paper based on pursuit strategies and necessary and sufficient conditions for stability and convergence are derived. Moreover, the results are extended to the case with arbitrary communication delays, for which the steady-state formation is presented according both the control parameters and time delays.

Abstract:This paper considers the consensus problem of multiagent systems with the input-based triggering condition. A model-based approach is first given to estimate the relative interagent states between intermittent communications instead of absolute states. A novel consensus protocol consisting of the relative interagent states is proposed for the consensus problem. Besides, compared with some results on the triggering condition consisting of state measurement error, a new triggering condition is constructed based on the control input. Then, the consensus protocol is executed by every agent in a fully distributed way, which has the advantage that the controller design is related to the number of agents instead of using global information. Moreover, the bounds of parameters of the controller and the triggering condition can be obtained by the proposed algorithm simultaneously, which depends on the total number of agents in multiagent networks. The proposed control scheme can ensure that states of all agents can achieve consensus. It is shown that “Zeno behavior” does not appear under the proposed algorithm. Finally, an illustrative example is given to verify the proposed method.

Abstract:In this paper, a self-triggered algorithm for leader-following consensus of general linear multi-agent systems with input time delay is proposed. It is shown that the leader-following consensus can be reached asymptotically and the Zeno-behaviour of triggering time sequences can be excluded. Under this algorithm, the next exact triggering time instant of each agent can be computed by the local information at the previous triggering time instant. Continuous communication, monitoring of measurement error and updating of controller input are thus avoided.

Abstract:The event-triggered time-varying formation tracking for a class of second-order multi-agent systems (MASs) subject to a non-cooperative leader is investigated in this paper. First, in the presence of the unknown input of the leader and external disturbances, a distributed observer with adaptive parameters is put forward for followers to estimate the velocity tracking error. Then, based on the estimated tracking error and an auxiliary variable, a finite time formation controller is further constructed, which is updated depending on a pre-designed event-triggered mechanism. As a result, the desired time-varying formation configuration can be realized in finite time with less communication resource consumption. It's noted that the constructed formation strategy doesn't rely on any global information and thus is fully distributed. The stability of the controlled multi-agent system is proved rigorously and it's verified that event-triggered intervals are with a positive lower bound. At last, simulations are carried out to illustrate the effectiveness of the presented algorithm.

Abstract:A new decentralized event-triggered strategy is proposed to realize consensus of leader-follower multiagent systems under fixed/switching topologies, in which a clock-like variable is designed for each follower agent to determine the event-triggered time. The basic idea of this novel control strategy is to set a positive initial value for each clock-like variable and design its decline rate so that the variable decreases from a preset maximum value to zero. That is, when the value of the clock-like variable is equal to or less than zero, the follower agent corresponding to the clock-like variable will update its feedback control input. Simultaneously, the value of the clock-like variable will be reset to the maximum. Furthermore, it is guaranteed that there exists a strictly positive minimum of interevent time (MIET) for each follower agent; thus the Zeno phenomenon is ruled out. In particular, the positive MIET can be adjusted according to the intrinsic data sampling frequency of the follower agent. It is worth noting that the event-triggered strategy is robust. In other words, if the state of a follower agent is affected by stochastic disturbance or noise, the control strategy can still guarantee that there exists a strictly positive MIET for the follower agent. Therefore, this control strategy is of engineering applicability. Three numerical simulations are provided to verify the correctness and effectiveness of the strategy.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose an algorithm for multi-agent tracking leader based on event-triggered mechanism. The design of multi-agent event-triggered controller is given, and the event-triggered strategy is proposed. By choosing a suitable Lyapunov function, the stability of the system by the given event-triggered strategy is proved. It is also proved that all the agents in the system will follow the dynamic leader. Simulation examples are given to illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:This paper considers the event-triggered leader-follower tracking control problem for the heterogeneous physically interconnected systems. We first develop a distributed event-triggered observer for each follower to estimate the leader's state. For the observer system, with the proposed event-triggered scheme, the estimation errors of the observer system asymptotically converge to zero, and Zeno behavior is excluded. Then, we construct an event-triggered controller with the distributed observer to ensure that the tracking errors of the system also asymptotically converge to zero. Finally, a simulation example is presented to demonstrate the efficacy of the theoretical results.

Abstract:This paper presents leader-following consensus with distributed event-triggered control for multi-agent systems. An event-triggered control system with leader-following controller is studied. It is shown that the leader-following consensus for multi-agent systems can be achieved asymptotically. The triggering condition of an agent is not only affected by its own measurement error and the measurement error of its neighbors but also the current state. The feasibility of the proposed control scheme is further verified by excluding the Zeno behavior for each agent. A candidate Lyapunov function is proposed to validate the asymptotic convergence of the multi-agent systems. Simulation results are provided to illustrate the theoretical claims.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel study of input-observer-based leader-follower tracking for multi-agent systems (MASs). A widely held assumption in the present literature on MAS tracking is that the leader's input is available to all followers. The viability of this assumption, however, can be challenged by the reality that the communication topology only allows a leader to send its data to its neighbors. In an effort to overcome this barrier, this paper proposes to build an input-observer-based tracking control framework and algorithm. In this framework, an input observer is designed so that each follower can locally estimate the leader's input. The input reconstruction is then combined with a tracking controller, which will allow a follower to effectively achieve tracking. Convergence property of the proposed algorithm is rigorously analyzed. The simulation result demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed framework and algorithm.

Abstract:This paper analytically investigates an event-triggered leader-following consensus in second-order multi-agent systems with time delay in the control input. Each agent׳s update of control input is driven by properly defined event, which depends on the measurement error, the states of its neighboring agents at their individual time instants, and an exponential decay function. Necessary and sufficient conditions are presented to ensure a leader-following consensus. Moreover, the control is updated only when the event-triggered condition is satisfied, which significantly decreases the number of communication among nodes, avoided effectively the continuous communication of the information channel among agents and excluded the Zeno-behavior of triggering time sequences. A numerical simulation example is given to illustrate the theoretical results.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a model predictive control (MPC) method, which is on the basis of event-driven, for a tracking scheme of a leader-follower nonlinear multi-agent system (MAS) limited to input constraints and disturbances. An event-driven condition is designed for each follower such that each follower updates its states at trigger instants. By the designed event-driven scheme, a MPC method is proposed to implement the tracking scheme. Recursive feasibility and practical stability are ensured simultaneously by devising a robust terminal region as well as appropriate parameters for each follower. At last, an example on satellites is provided to validate the validity of the presented approach.

Abstract:This paper focuses on investigates the leader-follower consensus problem for linear multi-agent systems (MASs). In order to reduce the frequency of system network communication, this paper first designs three kinds of triggering mechanisms, for the leader, the edges composed of the leader and informed followers, and the edges composed of uninformed followers, respectively. All agents in the MASs do not transmit information until the corresponding triggering mechanisms are satisfied, thus avoiding continuous communication and saving system resources. Then, two kinds of fully distributed edge-event-triggered adaptive protocols are designed to solve the leader-follower problem. The first state feedback control protocol is applicable to scenarios where all states of MASs are available. The second output feedback control protocol does not depend on the availability of the states of MASs. Moreover, under the designed triggering mechanisms and fully distributed edge-event-triggered adaptive consensus strategies, the MASs do not exhibit the Zeno behavior. Finally, two practical simulations are introduced to verify all the theoretical results obtained in this paper. Furthermore, in order to further demonstrate the advantages of the proposed methods, a comparative experiment is performed.

Abstract:In this paper, a novel dynamic event‐triggered control protocol for leader‐following problems of generic linear multi‐agent systems is proposed. Compared with the existing static event‐triggered strategy, the developed event‐triggered approach significantly reduces the utilization of communication resources while guaranteeing asymptotic consensus, and the interevent time is adjustable. Under this event scheduling mechanism, a synthesis approach combining controller and observer design is presented. The observer‐based control and event‐triggered rules are distributed, which only require local information of each agent to implement. The proposed methods incorporate model‐based estimation and auxiliary dynamic variables with a clock‐like behavior to prolong the interevent time as long as possible. The sufficient conditions for leader‐following consensus are established using linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) formulation to facilitate numerical computation. Comparative simulations in different scenarios demonstrate the validity of the proposed theoretical results.
