Abstract:We propose a scheme to control quantum interference pattern in a system of a superconducting qubit coupled to its own data bus by applying a controllable time-dependent electromagnetic field. It is shown that the quantum interference induced by the initial phase difference is closely related to the quantum correlations between two superconducting qubits which are coupled to their own data bus and the geometric discord can also be increased by applying the controllable electromagnetic field.

Abstract:We study the dynamics of quantum discord and entanglement between a superconducting qubit and a data bus, which is driven by a controllable time-dependent electromagnetic field, in the presence of phase decoherence and find that the quantum discord and entanglement remain at a stationary non-zero value for long time evolution. It is shown that the amount of stationary quantum discord and entanglement can be enhanced by applying the time-dependent electromagnetic field.

Abstract:We investigate how quantum measurements affect the dynamics of quantum correlations of the system which consists of two noninteracting superconducting qubits each locally coupling to its own data bus. It is shown that the geometric discord and entanglement between two superconducting qubits can be increased by applying a sequence of selective measurements. The optimal measurement time at which the quantum correlations achieve their maximal values is also analyzed. Moreover, we find that the selective measurements on the data buses can protect quantum information of two superconducting qubits and force information to flow back to the superconducting qubits from the data buses by a witness of the trace distance. Abstract:We investigate the influence of the dynamical decoupling pulses on the quantum correlations in a superconducting system consisting of two noninteracting qubits interacting with their own data buses. It is found that the geometric discord and entanglement between the two superconducting qubits can be increased by applying a train ofπ-phase pulses. We then proceed to explore how the decoupling pulses affect the quantum transfer of information between the two superconducting qubits by making use of the change of trace distance.

Abstract:We investigate the quantum discord dynamics in a cavity quantum electrodynamics system, which consists of two noninteracting two-level atoms driven by independent optical fields and classical fields, and find that the quantum discord vanishes only asymptotically although entanglement disappears suddenly during the time evolution in the absence of classical fields. It is shown that the amount of quantum discord can be increased by adjusting the classical driving fields because the increasing degree of the amount of quantum mutual information is greater than classical correlation by applying the classical driving fields. Finally, the influence of the classical driving field on the fidelity of the system is also examined.

Abstract:We investigate the dynamics of quantum correlation between two separated qubits trapped in one-dimensional plasmonic waveguide. It is found that for a class of initial states, the quantum discord shows a sudden change phenomenon during the dynamical evolution. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the quantum discord can be enhanced if a proper product of the plasmon wave number and two qubits distance is chosen. Finally, we find that the non-zero quantum discord between two qubits can be created for the states without initial quantum discord during the time evolution of the system.

Abstract:We investigate the quantum discord dynamics of two noninteracting two-level atoms, each trapped in a single-mode optical cavity which is filled with a nonlinear Kerr-like medium. It is found that quantum discord vanishes only asymptotically although entanglement disappears suddenly during the time evolution. Furthermore, we explore the influence of the nonlinear Kerr-like medium on the dynamics of quantum discord, quantum mutual information, and classical correlation of two atoms. It is shown that the amount of quantum discord, quantum mutual information, and classical correlation of two atoms can be improved by adjusting the value of the Kerr medium. Finally, we also study the effect of phase dissipation on this system by making use of the Monte Carlo wavefunction method. (C) 2011 Optical Society of America

Abstract:We investigate an arbitrary single-qubit state transfer through spin chains with three-site and Dzyaloshinsky–Moriya interactions as well as the quantum discord transfer through double independent spin chains. It is shown that both the three-site and Dzyaloshinsky–Moriya interactions can improve the transfer quality in some cases and the influence of a combination of the three-site and Dzyaloshinsky–Moriya interactions is not simply a linear addition of each contribution. We also find that the three-site coupling may enhance the maximum discord more obviously while the Dzyaloshinsky–Moriya coupling may accelerate the maximum discord more effectively. Furthermore, we show that the quantum discord can always be transferred while the quantum entanglement has a threshold of minimum entanglement to be transferred and may experience entanglement sudden birth and death or even never receive any entanglement for some initial states.
Generating Stationary Entangled States in Superconducting Qubits

Abstract:When a two-qubit system is initially maximally entangled, two independent decoherence channels, one per qubit, would greatly reduce the entanglement of the two-qubit system when it reaches its stationary state. We propose a method on how to minimize such a loss of entanglement in open quantum systems. We find that the quantum entanglement of general two-qubit systems with controllable parameters can be controlled by tuning both the single-qubit parameters and the two-qubit coupling strengths. Indeed, the maximum fidelity F-max between the stationary entangled state, rho(infinity), and the maximally entangled state, rho(m), can be about 2/3 approximate to max{tr(rho(infinity)rho(m))}=F-max, corresponding to a maximum stationary concurrence, C-max, of about 1/3 approximate to C(rho(infinity))=C-max. This is significant because the quantum entanglement of the two-qubit system can be produced and kept, even for a long time. We apply our proposal to several types of two-qubit superconducting circuits and show how the entanglement of these two-qubit circuits can be optimized by varying experimentally controllable parameters.

Abstract:We study electromagnetically induced interference at superconducting qubits. The interaction between qubits and electromagnetic fields can provide additional coupling channels to qubit states, leading to quantum interference in a microwave driven qubit. In particular, the interwell relaxation or Rabi oscillation, resulting respectively from the multi- or single-mode interaction, can induce effective crossovers. The environment is modeled by a multi-mode thermal bath, generating the interwell relaxation. Relaxation induced interference, independent of the tunnel coupling, provides deeper understanding to the interaction between the qubits and their environment. It also supplies a useful tool to characterize the relaxation strength as well as the characteristic frequency of the bath. In addition, we demonstrate the relaxation can generate population inversion in a strongly driving two-level system. On the other hand, different from Rabi oscillation, Rabi oscillation induced interference involves more complicated and modulated photon exchange thus offers an alternative means to manipulate the qubit, with more controllable parameters including the strength and position of the tunnel coupling. It also provides a testing ground for exploring nonlinear quantum phenomena and quantum state manipulation, in not only the flux qubit but also the systems with no crossover structure, e.g. phase qubits.

Abstract:We investigate the decoherence to generate quantum discord between two separable qubits of an unentangled mixed state and propose a series of feasible schemes to enhance quantum discord by means of reliable quantum operations. By combing our schemes with the previous proposal, one can note that the generated quantum discord can be greatly enhanced. Moreover, our success probability entirely depends on the quantum measurement strength.

Abstract:Random fluctuations can lead to cooperative effects in complex systems. We here report the experimental observation of noise-induced quantum synchronization in a chain of superconducting transmon qubits with nearest-neighbor interactions. The application of Gaussian white noise to a single site leads to synchronous oscillations in the entire chain. We show that the two synchronized end qubits are entangled, with nonzero concurrence, and that they belong to a class of generalized Bell states known as maximally entangled mixed states, whose entanglement cannot be increased by any global unitary. We further demonstrate the stability against frequency detuning of both synchronization and entanglement by determining the corresponding generalized Arnold tongue diagrams. Our results highlight the constructive influence of noise in a quantum many-body system and uncover the potential role of synchronization for mixed-state quantum information science.

Abstract:With a high-loss resonator supplying the non-Hermiticity, we study the Energy level degeneracy and quantum state evolution in tunable coupling superconducting quantum circuit. The qubit's effective energy level and damping rate can be continually tuned in superconducting circuit, and the positions and numbers of level degenerate points are controllable. The efficient of quantum state exchange and the asymmetry of quantum state evolution can be tuned with non-hermitian and nonreciprocal coupling between two qubits. The controllable non-Hermiticity provides new insights and methods for exploring the unconventional quantum effects in superconducting quantum circuit.

Abstract:Quantum correlations (including entanglement and quantum discord) of two qubits symmetrically coupled to the surrounding XY spin chain in the presence of a transverse magnetic field are studied. We investigate the dynamic evolution of the quantum correlations of the two qubits when the surrounding spin chain is in the thermal equilibrium state. Numerical results show that the thermal effects can accelerate the decay process of the quantum correlations if the initial state of the composite system is not in the decoherence free space. When the temperature is high enough, the quantum phase transition driven by the external magnetic field completely disappear.

Abstract:In quantum information processing, a tension between two different tasks occurs: while qubits' states can be preserved by isolating them, quantum gates can be realized only through qubit-qubit interactions. In arrays of qubits, weak coupling leads to states being spatially localized and strong coupling to delocalized states. Here, we study the average energy level spacing and the relative entropy of the distribution of the level spacings (Kullback-Leibler divergence from Poisson and Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble) to analyze the crossover between localized and delocalized (chaotic) regimes in linear arrays of superconducting qubits. We consider both transmons as well as capacitively shunted flux qubits, which enables us to tune the qubit anharmonicity. Arrays with uniform anharmonicity, comprising only transmons or flux qubits, display remarkably similar dependencies of level statistics on the coupling strength. In systems with alternating anharmonicity, the localized regime is found to be more resilient to the increase in qubit-qubit coupling strength in comparison to arrays with a single qubit type. This result supports designing devices that incorporate different qubit types to achieve higher performances.

Abstract:We study the quantum discord and teleportation of a two-qubit Heisenberg XXX chain with spin-orbit interaction. The analytical expressions of quantum discord, output state quantum discord and fidelity are obtained for this model. The classical correlation, quantum correlation and entanglement of this system depending on coupling interaction, spin-orbit interaction and temperature are investigated in detail. It is found that the quantum discord exists for the ferromagnetic case, but entanglement is zero under the same condition. We can obtain fidelity better than any classical communication protocol for the antiferromagnetic case. The robustness of quantum discord against the temperature is helpful for the realization of quantum computation.

Abstract:High fidelity single shot qubit state readout is essential for many quantum information processing protocols. In superconducting quantum circuit, the qubit state is usually determined by detecting the dispersive frequency shift of a microwave cavity from either transmission or reflection. We demonstrate the use of constructive interference between the transmitted and reflected signal to optimize the qubit state readout, with which we find a better resolved state discrimination and an improved qubit readout fidelity. As a simple and convenient approach, our scheme can be combined with other qubit readout methods based on the discrimination of cavity photon states to further improve the qubit state readout.
