Abstract:Three-way decisions provide an approach to obtain a ternary classification of the universe as acceptance region, rejection region and uncertainty region respectively. Interval set theory is a new tool for representing partially known concepts, especially it corresponds to a three-way decision. This paper proposes a framework for comparing two interval sets by inclusion measures. Firstly, we review the basic notations, interpretation and operation of interval sets and classify the orders on interval sets into partial order, preorder and quasi-order. Secondly, we define inclusion measure which indicates the degree to which one interval set is less than another one and construct different inclusion measures to present the quantitative ranking of interval sets. Furthermore, we present similarity measures and distances of interval sets and investigate their relationship with inclusion measures. In addition, we propose the fuzziness measure and ambiguity measure to show the uncertainty embedded in an interval set. Lastly, we study the application of inclusion measures, similarity measures and uncertainty measures of interval sets by a special case of three-way decisions: rough set model and the results show that these measures are efficient to three-way decision processing.

Abstract:This paper first presents a brief survey of the existing works on comparing and ranking any two interval numbers and then, on the basis of this, gives the inclusion measure approach to compare any two interval numbers. The monotonic inclusion measure is defined over the strict partial order set proposed by Moore and illustrate that the possibility degrees in the literature are monotonic inclusion measures defined in this paper; Then a series of monotonic inclusion measures are constructed based on t-norms. Finally, we give illustrations by using the monotonic inclusion measures and gain good results.

Abstract:The main purpose of three-way decisions with interval-valued decision-theoretic rough sets is to make decisions by minimizing interval-valued expected loss functions. Since the set of interval-valued expected losses is not a totally ordered set, a new mechanism is presented to make three-way group decisions with interval-valued decision-theoretic rough sets by calculating inclusion measures between two arbitrary interval-valued expected loss functions. Firstly, based on conjunctive and disjunctive semantics of intervals, inclusion measures are proposed based on the partial orders via different semantics, respectively. Secondly, the framework of three-way decisions with interval-valued decision-theoretic rough sets is presented based on inclusion measures of intervals. Thirdly, three-way decisions with interval-valued decision-theoretic rough sets are extended to group decisions. To improve the precision of interval-valued loss evaluation for the final group decisions, we divide interval-valued expected loss functions for each expert into several trivial intervals, then the matrix of inclusion measures for interval-valued expected loss functions between every two experts is obtained by aggregating all the inclusion measures. Fourthly, we employ the methodology of three-way decisions with interval-valued decision-theoretic rough sets and select rules with minimal costs or risks to obtain the optimal decision rules of group decisions. To highlight the performance of our methodology, by using score functions to transform an interval into a real one we introduce another method based on the principle of justifiable granularity to obtain decision rules of group decisions. Finally several data sets are employed to evaluate our methodology.

Abstract:In this paper, a new method for ranking interval grey numbers to address the challenge in multi-criteria decision making problems with interval grey numbers has been proposed. This new method involves the risk preferences of decision makers. First, we propose a new method to rank the interval grey numbers by comparing the possibility degree or whitened-value. Second, we classify the decision makers into three different types according to their risk preferences then we establish the corresponding risk preference assumptions to solve the problem that different interval grey numbers with the same possibility degree or whitened-value. Finally, we use a realistic voting example to demonstrate the practicability and effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:Ranking intuitionistic fuzzy values (IFVs) and interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy values (IVIFVs) is an important and necessary work in intuitionistic fuzzy group decision making. Since the set of all IFVs is a poset and inclusion measure indicates the degree to which a given element of a poset is contained in another one. This paper studies hybrid monotonic (HM) inclusion measures of IFVs and IVIFVs respectively and discuss their applications to group decision making. Firstly, HM inclusion measure is defined on the posets of all IFVs and IVIFVs respectively. Then HM inclusion measures are studied by constructive approach. Furthermore, the HM inclusion measures are employed to make intuitionistic and interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy group decisions. Lastly, practical examples are provided to illustrate the developed approaches respectively.

Abstract:The similarity degree and divergence degree between intuitionistic fuzzy objects are defined respectively, and the related properties are presented in this paper. Then, we define the (alpha, beta)-level cutsets based on intuitionistic fuzzy similarity relation under decision objective circumstances. Moreover, the upper and lower approximation sets of objective sets are derived by utilizing the defined rough membership function. Some properties of the derived upper and lower approximations are discussed, and a ranking method for intuitionistic fuzzy numbers is proposed. According to Bayesian decisions, an intuitionistic fuzzy three-way decision-theoretic model and a rule induction algorithm based on intuitionistic fuzzy decision systems are constructed. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:This paper proposes a general framework for the study of interval-valued information systems by integrating the variable-precision-dominance-based rough set theory with inclusion measure theory. By introducing a α-dominance relation based on inclusion measures between two interval numbers, we propose a variable-precision-dominance-based rough set approach based on the substitution of indiscernibility relation by the α-dominance relation. The knowledge discovery framework is formulated for interval-valued information systems. Furthermore, knowledge reduction of interval-valued decision systems based on the variable-precision-dominance-based rough set model is postulated. Relationships between these reducts and discernibility matrices are also established to substantiate knowledge reduction in the variable-precision-dominance-based rough set model.

Abstract:With the introduction of the interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets, the interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy numbers are used instead of precise numbers to provide fuzzy characterization of feature attribute values and misclassification loss function values, which is more in line with the realistic fuzzy decision-making environment. Also, the constructive covering algorithm is introduced into the three-way decisions model, which effectively solves the shortcomings of the traditional decision-theoretic rough sets model in dealing with multi-classification problems, such as too many artificial parameters, complicated computation, redundant decisions, decisional conflicts and excessively large boundary domains. At the same time, in order to avoid the one-sidedness of individual decisions, the group decision-making method is introduced into the preliminarily constructed multi-classification model in this paper to build a multi-classification group decision-making model for interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy three-way decisions based on the constructive covering algorithm. This model determines the initial weights of feature attributes by the precise weighting method, and determines the expert weights by the grey relational precise weighting method, which effectively achieves the consistency of group decision-making. The decision-making process and rules are also deduced, which expand the model of three-way decisions as well as its practical application value and scope.

Abstract:This study examines decision theory based on interval type-2 fuzzy sets with linguistic information for the three-way decision approach by addressing the challenge of uncertainty for information analysis and fusion in subjective decision-making processes. First, the interval type-2 fuzzy linguistic term sets (IT2 FLTSs) are defined to represent and normalize the uncertain preference information in linguistic decision-making. Subsequently, perception computing based on computing with words paradigm is introduced to implement information fusion among different decision-makers in the linguistic information-based fuzzy logic reasoning process. Then, a three-way decision (3WD) theory based on IT2 FLTSs with fuzzy neighborhood covering is proposed, and the corresponded tri-partitioning strategies that satisfy Jaccard similarity of membership distributions are given. Finally, 3WD theory is applied to multi-criteria group decision-making with linguistic terms, and the algorithm steps are illustrated by a promising application under the background of coronavirus disease 2019 to reveal the feasibility and practicability of the proposed approach.

Abstract:Based on the normalized hamming distance and divergence degree,we define the compatibility degree and divergence degree between intuitionistic fuzzy objects under intuitionistic fuzzy environment,respectively,and related properties are given in this paper. Then we define(α,β)-level cut-sets both with intuitionistic fuzzy compatibility relation and under decision objective circumstances re-spectively,namely,Rβαand Xβα. Abstract:The theory of three-way decisions is used to classify a set of objects into the three disjoint parts of the positive, negative and boundary regions. This paper mainly studies three-way decisions with reflexive probabilistic rough fuzzy sets. We first discuss reflexive probabilistic rough sets in a reflexive probabilistic approximation space. For any fuzzy set and a level value, reflexive probabilistic rough fuzzy sets are introduced based on a pair of thresholds and a reflexive binary relation. Related properties of them are investigated. The lower and upper reflexive probabilistic rough fuzzy approximations are monotonic when the two thresholds and the level value increase or decrease. To give the physical interpretation of the required thresholds in reflexive probabilistic rough fuzzy sets, a set of states is constructed based on any fuzzy set and a level value. Three-way classifications in reflexive probabilistic rough fuzzy sets are then discussed. This method gives the values of the pair of thresholds using the loss functions. Meanwhile, using the minimum-risk decision rules, the lower and upper reflexive probabilistic rough fuzzy sets are constructed, which are consistent with the meaning of the lower and upper approximations in rough set theory. Related algorithm and example are also shown to explain the proposed method.

Abstract:Recently, the notion of a three-way fuzzy set is presented, inspired by the basic ideas of three-way decision and various generalized fuzzy sets, including lattice-valued fuzzy sets, partial fuzzy sets, intuitionistic fuzzy sets, etc. As the new theory of uncertainty, it has been used in attribute reduction and as a new control method for the water level. However, as an extension of a three-way decision, this new theory has not been used in multi-criteria decision making (MCDM for short). Based on the previous work, in this paper, we present rough set models based on three-way fuzzy sets, which extend the existing fuzzy rough set models in both complete and incomplete information systems. Furthermore, the new models are used to solve the issue of MCDM. Firstly, three-way fuzzy relation rough set and three-way fuzzy covering rough set models are presented for complete and incomplete information systems. Because almost all existing fuzzy rough set models are proposed under complete information, the new proposed models can be seen as a supplement to these existing models. Then, a relationship between the three-way fuzzy relation rough set and the three-way fuzzy covering rough set is presented. Finally, a novel method for the issue of MCDM is presented under the novel three-way fuzzy rough set models, which is used in paper defect diagnosis.

Abstract:The three-way decision method is a kind of new developed uncertain decision theory that combines fuzzy sets and rough sets together in recent years. It divides a set of objects into three regions, called the acceptance, rejection and uncertain regions, respectively. However, all the current researches deal with the three regions in the same way and do not provide further analysis on the most important uncertain region. In this paper, we propose an extended three-way decision method, called partial fuzzy sets, which regard acceptance region and rejection region as certain so as to focus on the uncertain region. Both certainty and uncertainty are simultaneously considered, that is more consistent with human thinking in decision making. Then, we establish two operational algorithms, called approximate approach and enhanced approximate approach, respectively. The approximate approach considers that the group accepts the certain information as far as possible. Specially speaking, based on approximate approach, if other members in a group are all uncertain to a judgment except one or two, who accept or reject it surely, then the group would agree with the certain judgment, even that they might be the minority. On the base of approximate approach, enhanced approximate approach reduces the possible bias through removing the maximal and the minimal membership grades in the group evaluation before aggregation. Obviously, the proposed methods provide more effective ways for three-way decisions than the current researches by avoiding some redundant and unnecessary computations, especially for the case with abundant of alternatives. Two numerical examples are provided to illustrate the practicality and validity of the proposed methods.

Abstract:Uncertainty measurements underlie the system interaction and data learning. Their relevant studies are extensive for the single-valued decision systems, but become relatively less for the interval-valued decision systems. Thus, three-level and three-way uncertainty measurements of the interval-valued decision systems are proposed, mainly by systematically constructing vertical-horizontal weighted entropies. Firstly, the interval-valued decision systems are endowed with three-level structures, including Micro-Bottom, Meso-Middle, and Macro-Top. Secondly, a three-level decomposition is hierarchically made for the existing conditional entropy. Thirdly, three-way weighted entropies are systematically and hierarchically constructed at the three levels, and they achieve their hierarchy, systematicness, algorithm, boundedness, and granulation monotonicity/non-monotonicity. The three-level and three-way weighted entropies deepen and extend the conditional entropy, and they realize the ingenious criss-cross informatization for the interval-valued decision systems. Their effectiveness of uncertainty measurements is ultimately verified by table examples and data experiments.

Abstract:In this article, we demonstrate how interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IVIFSs) can function as extended intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IFSs) using the interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy numbers (IVIFNs) instead of precision numbers to describe the degree of membership and non-membership, which are more flexible and practical in dealing with ambiguity and uncertainty. By introducing IVIFSs into three-way decisions, we provide a new description of the loss function. Thus, we firstly propose a model of interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy decision-theoretic rough sets (IVIFDTRSs). According to the basic framework of IVIFDTRSs, we design a strategy to address the IVIFNs and deduce three-way decisions. Then, we successfully extend the results of IVIFDTRSs from single-person decision-making to group decision-making. In this situation, we adopt a grey correlation accurate weighted determining method (GCAWD) to compute the weights of decision-makers, which integrates the advantages of the accurate weighted determining method and grey correlation analysis method. Moreover, we utilize the interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy weighted averaging (IIFWA) operation to count the aggregated scores and the accuracies of the expected losses. By comparing these scores and accuracies, we design a simple and straightforward algorithm to deduce three-way decisions for group decision-making. Finally, we use an illustrative example to verify our results.

Abstract:Due to the effectiveness and advantages of interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IVIFSs) in evaluating uncertainty and risk, we introduce IVIFSs into loss functions of decision-theoretic rough sets (DTRSs) and propose an optimization-based approach to interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy three-way decisions. First, based on the classical DTRSs and two previous optimization models, we construct a new concise linear programming model for simultaneously determining the threshold pair. Our model is mathematically equivalent to the DTRSs and the previous models under the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) condition. Second, we extend the constructed model via the IVIFSs of loss functions and we discuss the relations between these loss functions based on a similarity measure function-based ranking method and a multiple score function-based ranking method for IVIFSs. Third, we develop our extended models via two ranking methods and we prove the existence and uniqueness of the optimal solution of the model. The optimization-based method, along with its algorithm for three-way decisions, is designed in an interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy environment. Compared to the latest existing methods, our method has three advantages (see Advantages 1-3). Finally, an illustrative example is considered, and the advantages of our approach are demonstrated by this example.

Abstract:In this study, a complete ranking method for interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy numbers (IVIFNs) is introduced by using a score function and three types of entropy functions. This work is motivated by the work of Lakshmana Gomathi Nayagam et al. (Soft Comput 21, 7077–7082, 2017) in which a novel non-hesitant score function for the theory of interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets was introduced. The authors claimed that the proposed non-hesitant score function could overcome the shortcomings of some familiar methods. By using some examples, they pointed out that the non-hesitant score function is better compared with Sahin’s and Zhang et al.’s approaches. It is pointed out that although in some specific cases, the cited method overcomes the shortcomings of several of the existing methods mentioned, it also created new defects that can be solved by other methods. The main aim of this study is to give a complete ranking method for IVIFNs which can rank any two arbitrary IVIFNs. At last, two examples to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method are provided.

Abstract:Interval-valued data exist in many practical situations, due to various factors such as random error, incompletion or inaccuracy. In rough set theory, interval-valued decision systems can be viewed as generalized models of single-valued decision systems. In this paper, from the viewpoint of interval variable, we propose a new dominance relation based on probability distribution. Consequently, dominance-based rough set model for interval-valued ordered decision systems is constructed with the proposed dominance relation. Moreover, the proposed model examines attribute reduction in interval-valued ordered decision systems.

Abstract:As an essential part of modern intelligent decision-making science, multi-attribute decision-making problems can effectively select and rank all candidate schemes under multiple indicators. Because of the complexity of the real environment and the uncertainty of the decision-making problem, interval numbers are often used to represent the evaluation information of the object. The existing methods of the multi-attribute decision-making problems rarely use the object set but give the decision results by selection or ranking, which often have strong subjectivity. We propose a ranking method from an acceleration viewpoint based on the three-way decision model to solve the interval-valued multi-attribute decision-making problem. A distance measure of two objects is a measure that describes the relationship between objects. Therefore, the fuzzy dominance distance is introduced to express order relations among objects. First, we present a method to compare any two interval numbers, which converts interval numbers into connection numbers according to the characteristics of interval numbers in multi-attribute decision-making problems. Second, the three-way decision theory is introduced to divide the object set into high, medium, and low dominance regions for the speed and rationality of decision-making. Finally, the multi-attribute decision-making problems can be simplified into the problem of selection in three regions by ranking the objects of the selected region. Unlike traditional methods, the experiments demonstrate that our proposed method has the lowest cost. Our method is shown to be efficient and can obtain comparable results.
