Abstract:The resistance distance between two vertices of a connected graph G is defined as the effective resistance between them in the corresponding electrical network constructed from G by replacing each edge of G with a unit resistor. The Kirchhoff index of G is the sum of resistance distances between all pairs of vertices. In this paper, general bounds for the Kirchhoff index are given via the independence number and the clique number, respectively. Moreover, lower and upper bounds for the Kirchhoff index of planar graphs and fullerene graphs are investigated.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a connected graph. The resistance distance between any two vertices of $G$ is equal to the effective resistance between them in the corresponding electrical network constructed from $G$ by replacing each edge with a unit resistor. The Kirchhoff index is defined as the sum of resistance distances between all pairs of the vertices. Recently, Yang and Wang determined the maximum Kirchhoff index of phenylene chains, and they proposed a conjecture about the minimum Kirchhoff index. In this note, we characterized the minimum phenylene chains with respect to the Kirchhoff index. This proves the conjecture.

Abstract:Let G be a connected graph. The Kirchhoff index (or total effective resistance, effective graph resistance) of G is defined as the sum of resistance distances between all pairs of vertices. Let S(G) be the subdivision graph of G. In this note, a formula and bounds for the Kirchhoff index of S(G) are obtained. It turns out that the Kirchhoff index of S (G) could be expressed in terms of the Kirchhoff index, the multiplicative degree-Kirchhoff index, the additive degree-Kirchhoff index, the number of vertices, and the number of edges of G. Abstract:Resistance distance was introduced by Klein and Randic (J. Math. Chem. 12 (1993) 81-95). The Kirchhoff index K-f(G) of a graph G is the sum of resistance distances between all pairs of vertices. Let S-n(l) denote the graph obtained from cycle C-l by adding n - l pendant edges to a vertex of C-l. Let P-n(l) denote the graph obtained by identifying one endvertex of path Pn-l+1 with any vertex of Cl. In this paper, we show that among n-vertex unicyclic graphs, (i) if n < 8, C-n has minimal Kirchhoff index; if 8 <= n < 12, S-n(4) has minimal Kirchhoff index; if n = 12, both S-n(3) and S-n(4) have minimal Kirchhoff index; otherwise, S-n(3) has minimal Kirchhoff index; (ii) P-n(3) has maximal Kirchhoff index. Sharp bounds for Kirchhoff index of unicyclic graphs are also obtained.

Abstract:Two resistance-distance-based graph invariants, namely, the Kirchhoff index and the additive degree-Kirchhoff index, are studied. A relation between them is established, with inequalities for the additive degree-Kirchhoff index arising via the Kirchhoff index along with minimum, maximum, and average degrees. Bounds for the Kirchhoff and additive degree-Kirchhoff indices are also determined, and extremal graphs are characterised. In addition, an upper bound for the additive degree-Kirchhoff index is established to improve a previously known result.

Abstract:The Kirchhoff index $Kf(G)$ of a graph $G$ is the sum of resistance distances between all unordered pairs of vertices, which was introduced by Klein and Randi\'c. In this paper we characterized all extremal graphs with Kirchhoff index among all graphs obtained by deleting $p$ edges from a complete graph $K_n$ with $p\leq\lfloor\frac{n}{2}\rfloor$ and obtained a sharp upper bound on the Kirchhoff index of these graphs. In addition, all the graphs with the first to ninth maximal Kirchhoff indices are completely determined among all connected graphs of order $n>27$.

Abstract:The resistance distance between any two vertices of G is defined as the network effective resistance between them if each edge of G is replaced by a unit resistor. The Kirchhoff index Kf(G) is the sum of resistance distances between all the pairs of vertices in G. We firstly provided an exact formula for the Kirchhoff index of the hypercubes networks Qn by utilizing spectral graph theory. Moreover, we obtained the relationship of Kirchhoff index between hypercubes networks Qn and its three variant networks l(Qn), s(Qn), t(Qn) by deducing the characteristic polynomial of the Laplacian matrix related networks. Finally, the special formulae for the Kirchhoff indexes of l(Qn), s(Qn), and t(Qn) were proposed, respectively.

The Kirchhoff index Kf ( G ) is defined as the sum of resistance distances between all pairs of vertices. Let be a -chain network with m complete graphs. Then identifying the opposite lateral edges of in an order way yields the -ring, denoted by . In this paper, we first construct a new equivalent network transformation on complete graphs. Then utilize combinatorial and electrical network approaches, we give explicit formula for the resistance distances between any two vertices in and . Further, the closed-form formulas of the Kirchhoff index for and are also obtained. In addition, our results contain the main results of [Symmetry. 15(5) (2023) 1122] and [Phys. Scr. 98(4) (2023) 045222] as special cases.

The R-graph of a graph G, denoted by R(G), is the graph obtained from G by adding a vertex ve and then joining ve to the end vertices of e for each e∈E(G). Let G1 and G2 be two vertex disjoint graphs. The R-vertex join of G1 and G2, denoted by G1〈v〉G2, is the graph obtained from R(G1) and G2 by joining every vertex of V(G1) with every vertex of V(G2). The R-edge join of G1 and G2, denoted by G1〈e〉G2, is the graph obtained from R(G1) and G2 by joining every vertex of I(G1) with every vertex of V(G2), where I(G1) is the set of the added vertices of R(G1). Abstract:The computation of resistance distance and the Kirchhoff index is a classical problem that has been extensively investigated by numerous mathematicians, physicists, and scientists. Consider a simple connected graph G with vertex set V(G) and edge set E(G). If we replace each edge of G with a resistor of 1 ohm resistance, we create an electrical network N; in that case, the distance between any two nodes between network N is called resistance distance. The Kirchhoff index is a mathematical term that quantifies the complexity of a graph; it is defined as the total resistance distance among each pair of vertices in G. The line graph L-G is constructed from G by swapping out the edges for vertices; in L-G, if two vertices share endpoints in G, then they are connected in L-G. In this study, extremal values for the Kirchhoff index of the line graph of trees are calculated. Further, we will also calculate the Kirchhoff index for the line graph of some special trees and establish the relationship between them.
