Abstract:In this paper we focus on the mixing matrix identification problem for underdetermined blind source separation. Based on the two-stage approach in sparse component analysis[1], we proposal a new algorithm that integrate with other blind signal processing methods like independent component analysis and model order selection. Compared with the DUET, the TIFROM and standard clustering methods, this algorithm can work adaptively in noisy environment and the required sparseness of sources can be considerably relaxed. Simulation results are presented.

Abstract:This paper focuses on the mixing matrix estimation stage,which is the first stage of the two-stage approach based on the sparse sources in underdetermined blind source separation.In the two-stage approach,the accuracy of estimating the mixing matrix will affect the recovered results to a great degree.A new method is put forward to estimate the mixing matrix in sparse domain.This method can recover the mixing matrix in sparse domain by searching the points next to the same line,thus can avoid the interference of the points far from the same line,and reduce the amount of computation greatly.Simulation results show that the method has a good performance.

Abstract:Typically, blind source separation (BSS) is achieved by estimating the demixing matrix of a model. This method cannot suit the cases of well-posed, underdetermined and over-determined models. To avoid the disadvantage of typical method, a new method via estimating the mixing matrix is proposed. At first, a uniform gradient based learning algorithm is given. The performance of the algorithm is discussed for the well-posed models. Then, the algorithm is extended to over-determined and underdetermined models. Finally, we obtained an algorithm that can be used to the three kinds of BSS models. Simulations illustrate that the proposed algorithm has similar performance as the typical algorithm for well-posed models, and suits over-determined/underdetermined models as well.

Abstract:In an underdetermined mixture system with unknown sources, it is a challenging task to separate these sources from their observed mixture signals, where . By exploiting the technique of sparse coding, we propose an effective approach to discover some 1-D subspaces from the set consisting of all the time-frequency (TF) representation vectors of observed mixture signals. We show that these 1-D subspaces are associated with TF points where only single source possesses dominant energy. By grouping the vectors in these subspaces via hierarchical clustering algorithm, we obtain the estimation of the mixing matrix. Finally, the source signals could be recovered by solving a series of least squares problems. Since the sparse coding strategy considers the linear representation relations among all the TF representation vectors of mixing signals, the proposed algorithm can provide an accurate estimation of the mixing matrix and is robust to the noises compared with the existing underdetermined blind source separation approaches. Theoretical analysis and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:Aiming at the problem of blind identification of underdetermined mixtures,an underdetermined blind identification algorithm is proposed,based on the detection of time-frequency single source point and cluster validation technique.Firstly,single source point of each source signal was detected.Then the mixing vector in the corresponding single source point set was estimated by Singular Value Decomposition(SVD).Finally the number of the source signals and the mixing matrix simultaneously were estimated by the cluster validation technique based on k-means clustering algorithm.Compared with the conventional algorithms with single source hypothesis,the proposed algorithm relaxes the sparsity requirement of the source signals and can estimate the mixing matrix under the assumption that there exist disjointed single source points for each source signal.Meanwhile,the proposed algorithm can estimate the number of the source signals while the conventional algorithms require it to be known as a priori.Simulation results display the efficiency of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:Mixing matrix estimation is one of the key techniques in underdetermined blind source separation. To obtain an accurate estimation of mixing matrix, an effective estimation algorithm based on clustering by fast search and find of density peaks (CFSFDP) is proposed in this paper. First, the received signals are transformed into a Time-Frequency (TF) domain where each component have liner clustering characteristics. Then, the remaining angles are clustered by CFSFDP to classify the points belonging to the same channel. Finally, the estimation of the mixing matrix can be calculated by the results of clustering, and the number of sources can also be found. The results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively estimate the mixing matrix with high accuracy.

Abstract:Under the circumstances that source signals are sufficiently sparse, an algorithm based on density measurement for blind estimation of the underdetermined mixing matrix is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm can estimate the number of source signals and the mixing matrix of the transmission channel simultaneously without any prior information. There are mainly three steps, including the preprocessing of observed samples, reservation of high-density samples, and estimation of the mixing matrix. Compared with the existing algorithms such as fuzzy clustering algorithm and probability density-based algorithm, the proposed algorithm does not require many iterations, which improves the efficiency. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has obvious advantages in the aspects of estimation accuracy of the mixing matrix as well as computational complexity and robustness.

Abstract:The underdetermined blind mixing matrix estimation algorithm plays a key role in underdetermined blind source separation.The estimation accuracy of the algorithm directly affects the source signal.With regards to the low stability and the poor estimation accuracy of the current algorithm,a new algorithm based on mixing clustering and mesh density is proposed.The new algorithm clusters the signal data,taking advantages of the clustering algorithm based on artificial bee colony and K-means algorithm to ensure the stability of the clustering results,and improves the estimation accuracy using the method of mesh density.Experiment results show that the new algorithm has the advantages of high stability and estimation accuracy compared with the traditional underdetermined blind mixing matrix estimation algorithm.

Abstract:In this paper, blind source separation is discussed with more sources than mixtures when the sources are sparse. The blind separation technique includes two steps. The first step is to estimate a mixing matrix, and the second is to estimate sources. The mixing matrix can be estimated by using a clustering approach which is described by the generalized exponential mixture model. The generalized exponential mixture model is a powerful uniform framework to learn the mixing matrix for sparse sources. After the mixing matrix is estimated, the sources can be obtained by solving a linear programming problem. The techniques we present here can be extended to the blind separation of more sources than mixtures with a Gaussian noise.

Abstract:To estimate the mixing matrix in underdetermined mixing systems, we propose a novel method by exploiting the sparsity of sources. We utilize the pairwise relationships among all of the mixture representations to detect the single source points in the time-frequency (TF) domain, i.e., the positions where only one source contributed dominantly. The mixture representations at these single source points are then clustered to estimate the underlying mixing matrix. Since the pairwise relationships among all mixtures are considered in the TF domain, the proposed method can achieve an accurate mixing matrix estimation and be robust in noisy cases. Experimental results indicate that our method is effective in mixing matrix estimation and outperforms five peer methods. (C) 2019 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Abstract:A new algorithm for the independent component analysis under the condition of more sources than sensors is presented. Under the condition, the clustering algorithm cannot obtain a better result if source signals are not sparse enough. The new algorithm can simplify the channel matrix and set up a new one by using the sparse characteristic of source signals. Based on the independence among source signals, the frequency spectrum of the source signals can be estimated from auto-correlation function of the observed signals in a new channel model, and then source signals can be drawn. The algorithm can get better results than the clustering algorithm. Simulation experiments are available to support the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:In this paper, we discussed the separation of n sources from m linear mixtures when the underlying system is underdetermined, that is, when m n. The underdetermined blind sources separation has two steps. In matrix-recovery step, we defined a characteristic of the signals as the durative-sparsity and proposed a novel approach called as a searching-and-averaging-based method in frequency domain. This approach tells us how to search some data points that are very close to the basis lines along the direction of basis vectors a j and how to use them to estimate the mixing matrix. In source-recovery step, we used Bofill and Zibulevsky's shortest-path algorithm. Finally, the separation results were obtained using their short-time Fourier transforms.

Abstract:Two-step strategy has become a fundamental method for underdetermined blind signal separation and the estimation of mixing matrix is a prerequisite for the source's recovery. This paper proposes a two-step blind source extraction method for incompletely sparse case.The approach firstly estimates the basis vectors (columns of matrix) of partial sources using single-source intervals and then extracts the corresponding sources with minimum interference;it doesn't depend on other basis vector except the corresponding basis vector, so it avoids the essential condition the matrix is recoverable. Several simulation experimental results demonstrate its performance and practices.

Abstract:ABSTRACTThis paper essentially considers the direction‐of‐arrival (DOA) estimation of far‐field source signals in the underdetermined blind separation, where the mixing matrix is complex‐valued. By distinguishing single‐source‐points (SSPs) from multi‐source‐points in the time‐frequency domain, a novel estimation algorithm is proposed based on the detection of SSPs, where only single source contributes and samples all correspond to one of the mixing column vectors. To further enhance the estimation accuracy, a modified version of the proposed algorithm is also presented, which utilizes the probability density distribution of the already detected SSPs and reselects those reliable SSPs with most likely probabilities. Finally, the mixing matrix as well as the DOAs can be obtained by performing the K‐means clustering algorithm on samples at selected SSPs. The results of numerical simulations validate the efficiency of both the two estimation algorithms. One of the outstanding superiorities for the SSPs‐based idea is that it can distinguish multiple DOAs using only two sensors; the other is that it relaxes the signal sparsity requirement to allow SSPs to merely occur at a small number of time‐frequency locations. Abstract:Underdetermined blind source separation is to recover the source signals from the observed signals without prior knowledge of the mixing channel. In signal processing, it is an open problem attracted the attention of more and more researchers. In this paper, we presents a fast and effective time-frequency algorithm to separate speech source signals in the underdetermined mixture case. In the proposed algorithm, the time-domain mixture signals are transformed to the frequency-domain by using short-time Fourier transform (STFT). Then the mixing matrix is estimated using K-means clustering, and frequency-domain sources are separated by solving a low-dimensional linear programming problem based on the estimated mixing matrix. Finally, the time-domain source signals are obtained using inverse STFT. The proposed algorithm has two advantages, one is to save time consumption, the other is to obtain better separation performance. Experimental results based on two mixtures of four speech sources demonstrate the feasibility and superiority of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:The source number estimation is the prerequisite for underdetermined blind separation. In order to im?prove the accuracy of the mixed signal separation, a new Hough?windowed algorithm is proposed in this study. First, the algorithm transforms the observed signals into angular variables based on Hough transformation. The clus?ter area is obtained by windowing the histogram of angular variables in the transform domain. The peak value is the number of sources. Next, the mixture matrix is obtained through analyzing the relationship between the maxima in each cluster area and the column vector of the mixture matrix. Finally, an unconstrained separation algorithm is presented. The interior point method enables the acquisition of the initial value and the gradient descent method separates the signals. The simulation results showed that the Hough windowing method demonstrates higher estima?tion accuracy, stronger noise resistance ability, and lower sensitivity to sparse as well. In conclusion, the uncon?strained separation algorithm has better separation effect.

Abstract:The underdetermined blind source separation (UBSS) has been considered to be a novel signal processing technique, which can separate the fault source signals from their mixtures. The mixing matrix estimation is a major step in the UBSS, this paper focuses on boosting the accuracy level of the estimated mixing matrix in the underdetermined case. Since the traditional clustering algorithms may not capture the signal characteristics well and secure a satisfactory estimation of the mixing matrix, an effective two-stage clustering algorithm is proposed to estimate the mixing matrix through a combination of hierarchical clustering and K-means. More specifically, first, the sum of frequency points energy in the time-frequency (TF) domain is calculated to estimate the number of source signals before clustering, and the initial clustering centers are obtained with a hierarchical clustering algorithm. Second, after eliminating outliers deviating from the initial clustering centers with the cosine distance, the new clustering centers are obtained by recalculating the mean value of each sub-cluster. Finally, the new clustering centers are set as the initial clustering centers of the K-means algorithm to estimate the mixing matrix. Extensive simulations and experiments show that the proposed method can effectively separate the source signals and ensure an estimate of the mixing matrix that is substantially more accurate than the K-means algorithm alone.

Abstract:Single channel blind source separation (SCBSS) using time-frequency nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) has some shortcomings, where the source number and convolution order must be known and it’s sensitive to the factors (e.g. window function, window length and overlap ratio of adjacent windows). To compensate these shortcomings that cannot meet the real application, we proposed an adaptive EMD-TNMF algorithm, which can estimate both the source number and the convolution order and is applicable to both single channel linear instantaneous and convolutive mixtures. Firstly, the single channel signal is mapped into multiple channels by utilizing empirical mode decomposition (EMD), and the number of independent sources is estimated by applying eigenvalue descent ratio of the IMFs’ covariance matrix. Secondly, the autocorrelation-based method is used to estimate the convolution order. Thirdly, the nonnegative matrix is constructed by adding one positive matrix (all elements are positive). Finally, in time domain, NMF algorithm is used to separate source signals. The algorithm’s performance is verified by two experiments where the single channel signal is linear instantaneous mixing of four artificial signals and linear convolutive mixing of two speech signals respectively. Results show that this algorithm can estimate the source number and convolution order correctly and obtain better separated source signals.
