Abstract:In recent years, the emergence of georeferenced media, like geotagged photos, on the Internet has opened up a new world of possibilities for geographic related research and applications. Despite of its short history, georeferenced media has been attracting attentions from several major research communities of Computer Vision, Multimedia, Digital Libraries and KDD. This paper provides a comprehensive survey on recent research and applications on online georeferenced media. Specifically, the survey focuses on four aspects: (1) organizing and browsing georeferenced media resources, (2) mining semantic/social knowledge from georeferenced media, (3) learning landmarks in the world, and (4) estimating geographic location of a photo. Furthermore, based on the current technical achievements, open research issues and challenges are identified, and directions that can lead to compelling applications are suggested.

Abstract:In recent years, million geo-tagged photos are available in online web service like Flickr, panoramio, etc. People contributing geo-tagged photo and share their travel experiences these media. The photo itself has important information sharing reveals like location, time, tags, title, and weather. We recommend the new method locations travel for tourists according their time and their preference. We get travel user preference according his/her past time in one city and recommendation another city. We examine our technique collect dataset from Flickr publically available and taken different cities of china. Experiment results show that our travel recommendation method according to tourist time capable to predict tourist location recommendation famous places or new places more precise and give better recommendation compare to state of art landmarks recommendation method and personalized travel method.

Abstract:Geo-referenced data visualization is one of the most important components of geographic information systems. Over the past several years, geospatial data are growing much more in size and complexity than ever before, and researchers are engaged in doing a lot of works to visualize these diverse geospatial data by taking advantage of computer graphics which helps to convey information and amplify cognition and makes possible for more powerful participating exploration and discovery experience. This paper will discuss the related works on visualization for GIS. The first chapter of this paper is an introduction which will present an overview. In the second chapter, we will talk about the geo-virtual environment which closely related to the virtual reality concept. We will focus on representation of urban models. terrain rendering algorithms, and the problems we currently face. For the third part, we will talk about two young but promising fields, which are scientific visualization and information visualization. The brief history and the research issues of these two disciplines will be the main topic. Finally, we will make a outlook on the future works about human-computer interaction, and hardware acceleration.

Abstract:Coming with the popularity of multimedia sharing platforms such as Facebook and Flickr, recent years have witnessed an explosive growth of geographical tags on social multimedia content. This trend enables a wide variety of emerging applications, for example, mobile location search, landmark recognition, scene reconstruction, and touristic recommendation, which range from purely research prototype to commercial systems. In this article, we give a comprehensive survey on these applications, covering recent advances in recognition and mining of geographical-aware social multimedia. We review related work in the past decade regarding to location recognition, scene summarization, tourism suggestion, 3D building modeling, mobile visual search and city navigation. At the end, we further discuss potential challenges, future topics, as well as open issues related to geo-social multimedia computing, recognition, mining, and analytics.

Abstract:Humanities and Social Sciences ( HSS) are undergoing the transformation of spatialization and quantification. Geo-computation, with geoinformatics ( including RS: Remote Sensing;GIS: Geographical Information System;GNSS: Global Navigation Satellite System) , provides effective computational and spatialization methods and tools for HSS. Spatial Humanities and Geo-computation for Social Sciences ( SH&GSS) is a field coupling geo-computation, and geoinformatics, with HSS. This special issue accepted a set of contributions highlighting recent advances in methodologies and applications of SH&GSS, which are related to sentiment spatial analysis from social media data, emotional change spatial analysis from news data, spatial analysis of social media related to COVID-19, crime spatiotemporal analysis,"double evaluation"for Land Use/Land Cover (LUCC), Specially Protected Natural Areas (SPNA) analysis, editing behavior analysis of Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI), electricity consumption anomaly detection, First and Last Mile Problem ( FLMP ) of public transport, and spatial interaction network analysis for crude oil trade network. Based on these related researches, we aim to present an overview of SH&GSS, and propose some future research directions for SH&HSS.

Abstract:As one of a serial of reports,this paper is a survey on multimedia researches and applications in China,2006.Since multimedia is an interdis ciplinary research area,papers about multimedia technology are distributed on various journals.We checked about 2956 papers published on 9 Chinese journals in 2006,from which we have selected 607 related to multimedia technology and application.Then we made statistical analysis on them and the compared them with those from 2002 to 2005.Considering the new feature of multimedia technology,we make significant modification to the categories of the papers for this year in order that the new categories can reflect the situation of multimedia technology in 2006 better and match its developing trend more exactly.Looking into the statistic results we can find that researchers in China are continuously paying much attention to codec,digital watermarking,virtual reality,hypermedia,QoS,CSCW,P2P,multimodal interface,infrastructure of pervasive computing,GIS and Digital Earth and medical application,which are also the international evolution trends in a quite long period.We present here an overview on the progress in multimedia technology in China,2006.This article can be used by researchers as a thoroughly references,and also will be helpful for people in technical planning and management.

GeoCMS : Towards a Geo-Tagged Media Management System

Abstract:In this paper, we propose the design and implementation of the new geotagged media management system. A large amount of daily geo-tagged media data generated by user's smart phone, mobile device, dash cam and camera. Geotagged media, such as geovideos and geophotos, can be captured with spatial temporal information such as time, location, visible area, camera direction, moving direction and visible distance information. Due to the increase in geo-tagged multimedia data, the researches for efficient managing and mining geo-tagged multimedia are newly expected to be a new area in database and data mining. This paper proposes a geo-tagged media management system, so called Open GeoCMS(Geotagged media Contents Management System). Open GeoCMS is a new framework to manage geotagged media data on the web. Our framework supports various types which are for moving point, moving photo - a sequence of photos by a drone, moving double and moving video. Also, GeoCMS has the label viewer and editor system for photos and videos. The Open GeoCMS have been developed as an open source system.

Abstract:The concept of geo-localization refers to the process of determining where on earth some `entity' is located, typically using Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates. The entity of interest may be an image, sequence of images, a video, satellite image, or even objects visible within the image. As massive datasets of GPS tagged media have rapidly become available due to smartphones and the internet, and deep learning has risen to enhance the performance capabilities of machine learning models, the fields of visual and object geo-localization have emerged due to its significant impact on a wide range of applications such as augmented reality, robotics, self-driving vehicles, road maintenance, and 3D reconstruction. This paper provides a comprehensive survey of geo-localization involving images, which involves either determining from where an image has been captured (Image geo-localization) or geo-locating objects within an image (Object geo-localization). We will provide an in-depth study, including a summary of popular algorithms, a description of proposed datasets, and an analysis of performance results to illustrate the current state of each field.

Abstract:This paper is the eight annual survey on multimedia researches and applications in China,2005. Since multimedia is a cross-field research area,papers about multimedia technology are scattered over various journals. We checked about 3 097 papers published on 9 Chinese journals in 2005,from which we picked up 410 related to multimedia technology and application. Then we made analysis and statistics on them comparing with data from 2001 to 2004. Looking through the data we can find that researchers in China have been continuously paying more and more attention to digital watermarking,virtual reality,multimodal interface,infrastructure of pervasive computing,multimedia information retrieval technology,quality of service,computer supported cooperative work,GIS and digital earth,which are also the worldwide trends for a quite long period. We present here an overview on the progress in multimedia technology in China,2005. This article tries to help the researchers not only in looking for references,but also in exploring the new direction of research.

Abstract:Along with the forthcoming of Google Earth, Virtual Earth, the next generation of Internet, Web 2.0, grid computing and smart sensor web, comes the new era for geo-information. In this paper, main features of new geo-information era are discussed. This new era is characterized by these features: serviced users are extended from professionals to all public users, the users are data and information providers as well, geospatial data provided are no longer measurement-by-specification but measurement-on-demand through smart sensor web, and services are transferred from being data-driven to applicationdriven. Such problems as out-of-order issues in geographic data collection and information proliferation, quality issues in geographic information updating, security issues in geographic information services, privacy issues in sharing geographic information and property issues in sharing geographic information, which are brought about by new geo-information era, especially those confronted in geoinformation science and geo-spatial information industry, are analyzed. Then strategies concerning standards, planning, laws, technology and applications are proposed.

The huge number of images and videos continually being uploaded by millions of people have stimulated a variety of visual media creation and editing applications, while also posing serious challenges of retrieval, organization, and utilization. This article surveys recent research as regards processing of large collections of images and video, including work on analysis, manipulation, and synthesis. It discusses the problems involved, and suggests possible future directions in this emerging research area.

Abstract:Due to the rapid development of mobile Internet techniques, cloud computation and popularity of online social networking and location-based services, massive amount of multimedia data with geographical information is generated and uploaded to the Internet. In this paper, we propose a novel type of cross-modal multimedia retrieval called geo-multimedia cross-modal retrieval which aims to search out a set of geo-multimedia objects based on geographical distance proximity and semantic similarity between different modalities. Previous studies for cross-modal retrieval and spatial keyword search cannot address this problem effectively because they do not consider multimedia data with geo-tags and do not focus on this type of query. In order to address this problem efficiently, we present the definition of $k$NN geo-multimedia cross-modal query at the first time and introduce relevant conceptions such as cross-modal semantic representation space. To bridge the semantic gap between different modalities, we propose a method named cross-modal semantic matching which contains two important component, i.e., CorrProj and LogsTran, which aims to construct a common semantic representation space for cross-modal semantic similarity measurement. Besides, we designed a framework based on deep learning techniques to implement common semantic representation space construction. In addition, a novel hybrid indexing structure named GMR-Tree combining geo-multimedia data and R-Tree is presented and a efficient $k$NN search algorithm called $k$GMCMS is designed. Comprehensive experimental evaluation on real and synthetic dataset clearly demonstrates that our solution outperforms the-state-of-the-art methods.
