Abstract:Stability of fractional-order nonlinear dynamic systems is studied using Lyapunov direct method with the introductions of Mittag–Leffler stability and generalized Mittag–Leffler stability notions. With the definitions of Mittag–Leffler stability and generalized Mittag–Leffler stability proposed, the decaying speed of the Lyapunov function can be more generally characterized which include the exponential stability and power-law stability as special cases. Finally, four worked out examples are provided to illustrate the concepts.

Abstract:Mittag–Leffler stability is a property of fractional-order dynamical systems, also called fractional Lyapunov stability, requiring the evolution of the positive-definite functions to be Mittag–Leffler, rather than the exponential meaning in Lyapunov stability theory. Similarly, fractional Lyapunov function plays an important role in the study of Mittag–Leffler stability. The aim of this study is to create closed-loop systems for commensurate fractional-order non-linear systems (FONSs) with Mittag–Leffler stability. We extend the classical backstepping to fractional-order backstepping for stabilising (uncertain) FONSs. For this purpose, several conditions of control fractional Lyapunov functions for FONSs are investigated in terms of Mittag–Leffler stability. Within this framework, (uncertain) FONSs Mittag–Leffler stabilisation is solved via fractional-order backstepping and the global convergence of closed-loop systems is guaranteed. Finally, the efficiency and applicability of the proposed fractional-order backstepping are demonstrated in several examples.

Abstract:This paper discusses the stability issues of fractional -order nonlinear scalar systems by using the distributed-order operators and the order sensitivity method. A positivity check method is proposed by the use of initialized fractional calculus. By doing so, the fractional-order system is converted to a corresponding distributed-order one, and a group of Lyapunov function candidates of the distributed-order system are derived from the Volterra integral equations. Particularly, it is proved that the stability conditions of fractional-order and integer-order nonlinear systems are consistent with each other, which is the main contribution of this paper, and it also provides a way to the stability analysis of distributed-order nonlinear systems. Several examples are illustrated to validate the above conclusions.

Abstract:In this paper, we first verify that fractional order systems using Caputo’s or Riemann–Liouville’s derivative can be represented by the continuous frequency distributed model with initial value carefully allocated. Then, the relation of the stability between the fractional order system and its corresponding integer order system is discussed and it is proven that stability of integer order system implies the stability of its corresponding fractional order system under some mild conditions. Moreover, we extend the stability theorems to the finite-dimensional case since fractional order systems are always implemented by approximation. Some illustrative examples are finally provided to show the usage and effectiveness of the proposed stability theorems.

Abstract:This paper deals with the stabilization of a class of commensurate fractional order uncertain nonlinear systems. The fractional order system concerned is of the strict-feedback form with uncertain nonlinearity. An adaptive control scheme combined with fractional order update laws is proposed by extending classical backstepping control to fractional order backstepping scheme. The asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system is guaranteed under the construction of fractional Lyapunov functions in the sense of generalized Mittag-Leffler stability. The fractional order nonlinear system investigated can be stabilized asymptotically globally in presence of arbitrary uncertainty. Finally illustrative examples and numerical simulations are performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

Abstract:In this paper, by using a characterization of functions having fractional derivative, we propose a rigorous fractional Lyapunov function candidate method to analyze stability of fractional-order nonlinear systems. First, we prove an inequality concerning the fractional derivatives of convex Lyapunov functions without the assumption on the existence of derivative of pseudo-states. Second, we establish fractional Lyapunov functions to fractional-order systems without the assumption on the global existence of solutions. Our theorems fill the gaps and strengthen results in some existing papers.

Abstract:Lyapunov direct method provides a very effective approach to analyze stability of nonlinear systems, however, the well-known Leibniz rule is not suitable for fractional derivatives. This paper deals with fractional nonlinear systems and several algebraic criteria of Mittag-Leffler and asymptotical stability are obtained by using S-procedure and analytical technique. Finally, an example is given to show that it is very convenient to check stability of practical systems by using our proposed methods.

Abstract:This brief discusses the stability and stabilization of a class of fractional-order nonlinear systems with Caputo derivative. On the basis of the stability theory of fractional-order linear differential equation, Mittag-Leffler function, Laplace transform, and the Gronwall inequality, two sufficient conditions are derived for the asymptotical stability of a class of fractional-order nonlinear systems with fractional-order alpha : 0 < alpha <= 1 and 1 < alpha < 2, respectively. Then, two sufficient conditions for asymptotical stabilization of such fractional-order systems are obtained, in which feedback gains could be ensured by the pole placement technique. Finally, some numerical examples are provided to show the validity and feasibility of the proposed method.

Abstract:In this paper, the stability of multi-variable fractional order nonlinear dynamic system is investigated. We propose the definition of generalized Mittag-Leffler stability with multi-variable and introduce the fractional Lyapunov direct method with multi-variable. Meanwhile, a novel approach is suggested to study generalized Mittag-Leffler stability in multi-variable fractional order nonlinear dynamic systems. An interesting multi-variable fractional order Lotka–Volterra predator–prey model is used to illustrate the proposed method and its effectiveness.

Abstract:Using the Lyapunov function method, this paper investigates the stability and the stabilization of linear fractional order systems, and presents a number of new results. First, some new properties of Caputo fractional derivative are presented. Then, a sufficient condition of asymptotical stability for fractional order systems is obtained by the Lyapunov function method. Abstract:This paper studies the stability of the fractional order unified chaotic system. On the unstable equilibrium points, the "equivalent passivity" method is used to design the nonlinear controller. With the definition of fractional derivatives and integrals, the Lyapunov function is constructed by which it is proved that the controlled fractional order system is stable. With Laplace transform theory, the equivalent integer order state equation from the fractional order nonlinear system is obtained, and the system output can be solved. The simulation results validate the effectiveness of the theory.

Abstract:The finite time stability of nonlinear fractional order differential systems is investigated in this paper. Two versions of finite time stability of Lyapunov theorem for nonlinear fractional order differential systems are proposed. Based on the fractional order extension of Lyapunov method, the finite time stability problem is studied for nonlinear fractional order differential systems, and several stability results are obtained. Via the fractional Lyapunov method by the class-K functions, some sufficient conditions of finite time stability for nonlinear fractional order differential systems are presented. The main results improve the existing results on the finite time stability of general dynamic systems. An illustrative example is provided to illustrate the main results. © 2013 TCCT, CAA.

Abstract:The research on the stability theory of fractional order nonlinear system has an important value for the application of synchronization and the control of fractional order chaotic system. The discussion that the stability discrimination of fractional order nonlinear system is converted into that of corresponding integer order nonlinear system has an important significance. In this paper, through the examples, for time-varying coefficient matrix, we point out the existing mistake of the discrimination theorem that states that if the integer system is stable, then its corresponding fractional system with order less than one is also stable. We also analyze the causes of the mistake.
