Abstract:Multimedia hiding system is to embed message behind the specified media, but it is still kept normal in media representations via human sensitive organizations without causing imperceptibility. In this article, we propose a data hiding system by means of flexible exploiting modification directions to achieve safer message concealments in image-media. In our scheme, n cover-pixels are flexibly chosen on modulo operations to embed a secret s , where n = ⌈ log 3 ( s ) ⌉. The varied pixel values associated with the chosen n pixels are only changed among [-1, 1]. Because the numbers of adjustable pixels are much greater than the pixels in the past scheme, our scheme is able to obtain a higher embedded ratio in response to the capacity requirements of information hiding systems. In addition, we also applied the statistics-steganalyzers to demonstrate that our scheme has accomplishment not only higher capacity but also kept the robustness against the blind steganalyzers.

Abstract:This paper presents a lossless data hiding scheme. The proposed scheme is based on the pixel difference histogram shifting to spare space for data hiding. Pixel differences are generated between a reference pixel and its neighbors in a pre-assigned block. After the difference histogram shifting, a large number of data can be embedded into the cover image, and multi-layer embedding is used to improve the hiding capacity. Different from previous works based on histogram shifting the proposed scheme can extract the hidden data and recover the exact original cover image with no extra information except the length of hidden data and the stego-image itself. Experimental results show that the average pure payload among eight commonly used grayscale images is up to 1.08 bits per pixel (bpp) while keeping low distortion.

Abstract:This paper proposes a lossless data hiding scheme with high embedding capacity, which can recover the original image without any distortion after the hidden data have been extracted. In this scheme, difference value of the adjacent pixels is calculated first. After adjusting the difference slightly, we can increase (decrease) it by 1 or maintain it intact to embed information into the cover image. Experimental results show that the average embedding capacity can be up to 0.91 bpp (bit per pixel) while the PSNR stays larger than 30 dB. Compared with some existing known lossless data hiding schemes, the proposed method provides higher embedding capacity and lower image degradation. Moreover, the presented algorithm is quite simple and the execution time is rather short.

A large number of pixel differences with equal values can be obtained which means more data can be embedded into the cover image than previous works based on histogram shifting. In addition, multi-layer embedding with various turns is used to increase the hiding capacity, and in each turn, we can offer high embedding capacity and keep low distortion by choosing the optimized block size and the best threshold. Experiments have been conducted to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. Furthermore, the proposed scheme can be implemented easily and no extra information except message length is needed to extract data and restore image.

Abstract:In 2006, Zhang and Wang presented the Exploiting Modification Direction (EMD) method for embedding secret message. The EMD approach is a steganographic approach in which only pixel in [1, -1] is changed after a message is hidden. This investigation presents a novel reversible data hiding scheme that is based on the modulo function and histogram shifting algorithm. The message can be extracted using a critical function and the original image can be recovered without loss way by histogram shifting. The histogram in this scheme is formed by exploiting the difference between the predicted of pixels and those of their neighboring pixels. The peak point and zero point in the distribution in the histogram are found and the value between the peak point and the zero point is shifted by +/-1; then, the message is hidden at the peak point using the critical function. Experimental results reveal that the developed method has a high capacity without causing noticeable distortion. In one-level hiding, the proposed method maintains a large image quality of 50dB. Furthermore, multiple level embedding can be utilized to provide high capacity.

Abstract:In the recent years, with the rapid development of the network multimedia systems, data hiding and digital watermarking techniques have become a feasible solution to copyright protection and data authentication. In this paper, we present a new data hiding scheme for still images. The technique is based on embedding information in the transform domain; the DFT coefficients of the original image are modified to embed information bits. Taking the symmetric property of DFT coefficients into consideration, our scheme makes a tradeoff between imperceptibility and embedding capacity, and achieves a higher data embedding rate than most of the current transform domain embedding methods. Furthermore, not only gray images but also color ones can be used as cover images for covert communications. The hidden information can be either an image or a text. The experiment result shows good performance and prospect of our technique.

Abstract:This paper presents a lossless data hiding algorithm for binary images.Based on the connectivity and smoothness of a binary image pixel and its neighborhood,selection criteria of turning points are presented.Following these selection criteria,a carrier sequence for message embedding can be constructed.The carrier sequence length depends on the length of secret information to be embedded,and arithmetic coding is applied to ensure lossless compression of the carrier sequence to obtain redundant space for the hidden information.Bit control method is employed to reduce the modification of original images caused by information embedding.Experiments indicate that the proposed algorithm can ensure lossless recovery of the original image and better visual effects of the stegoimage.Since information is embedded with least modification,image distortion is minimized,thus making the algorithm promising for real-world application.

Abstract:There are many algorithms for data hiding in H.264/AVC video sequences, most of which focus on embedding in the decoded domain. However, these schemes always perform badly in embedding speed. Aimed at simplifying computing complexity and developing a fast algorithm, we propose in this paper a new data hiding scheme for H.264/AVC video with a high embedding speed. Instead of hiding data into the elements in the encoding process, we analyze the structure of H.264/AVC video bitstream and look for appropriate bits to modify in order to minimize the change caused to the original stream. Our algorithm chooses the last byte of those less important NALU (Network Abstraction Layer Unit) to hide secret data. The experimental results showed that the proposed algorithm achieves an impressive embedding speed while maintaining good visual quality and embedding capacity.

Abstract:Unlike traditional information hiding techniques, the features of lossless information hiding techniques are: (1) by using the lossless embedding model, the secret information is embedded in digital media to achieve copyright protection or content authentication, and (2) after extracting the secret information, the digital media can be recovered losslessly to protect the integrity of the original digital media. These techniques therefore attract the interest of academicians and show broad application prospects in medical images and other sensitive applications. Lossless information hiding algorithms for images can be classified into three categories, i.e., the spatial domain–based, the transform domain–based, and the compressed domain–based schemes. This chapter focuses on the spatial domain schemes. First we provide an overview of the spatial domain–based schemes. Then we discuss some typical spatial domain lossless information hiding methods, which are classified into five categories, i.e., the modulo addition–based schemes, difference expansion–based schemes, histogram modification–based schemes, lossless compression–based schemes, and reversible secret sharing–based schemes.

Abstract:This paper presents a new scheme of information hiding based on JPEG images. Using an I/(I) matrix, m bits of information data can be embedded by changing, at most, (m/2) bits in the 2m least important bits of quantized information of intermediate/low frequency in 8×8 DCT domain, which makes higher data-embedding efficiency and better imperceptibility. The scheme has been simulated in PC and better experimental results have been given.

Abstract:This paper presents a new approach for hiding information in digital audio based on the audio-to-image wavelet transform (A2IWT) and vector quantization (VQ). In our scheme, the cover audio signal is first transformed into an image by utilizing the wavelet transform and re-sampling the coefficients, then the secret data are embedded in the obtained image using a VQ-based image steganographic scheme, and finally the image together with the remaining wavelet coefficients is inversely transformed back to a stego audio signal. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme is effective and efficient.

Abstract:This paper presents an optimal weighted modulus (OWM) algorithm able to conceal secret messages in a high dynamic range image encoded via the RGBE format, consisting of the red, green, blue, and exponent channels. In contrast to current state-of-the-art schemes, which mainly employ limited and vulnerable homogeneous representations, our OWM scheme exploits four channels and an embedding weight to conceal secret messages, thereby offering more embedding capacities and undetectability against steganalytic tools. To reduce the impact on the luminance variation, we confine the maximal change incurred in the exponent channel when embedding secret messages. In addition, we propose an SEC scheme to eliminate the pixel saturation problem, even though a pixel contains values close to the boundary extreme. As a result, the stego images produced not only exhibit high quality but also comply with the RGBE encoding format, making them able to resist malicious steganalytic detection. The experimental results show that our scheme offers larger embedding rates, between 2.8074 and 5.7549 bits per pixel, and the average PSNR value for twelve tone-mapped images is over 48 dB. In addition, the HDR VDP 3.0 metric demonstrates the high fidelity of stego HDR images, where the average Q value is close to the upper bound of 10.0. Our scheme can defeat RS steganalytic attacks and resist image compatibility attacks. A comparison result confirms that our scheme outperforms six current state-of-the-art schemes.

Abstract:Data hiding encompasses a wide range of applications related to hiding messages in digital images. The visual redundancy of images makes it possible to embed data in the images without attracting attention. Increasing the hiding capacity and decreasing the hiding distortion are prime objectives that data hiding intends to achieve. In this paper, we propose a high-payload data hiding scheme based on absolute moment block truncation coding (AMBTC) to minimize the impact of hiding. A two-level minimum mean square error (MMSE) quantizer generated by AMBTC is used to decrease the distortion associated with hiding. Also, we present a lookup table based on the symmetric property for adaptively hiding secrets in pixels to achieve high hiding capacity. We can embed almost 1.9 bits per pixel (bpp) with a high image quality of an average of 31 dB. Only 5.3% of pixels are changed during the data-hiding process. Compared with other schemes, we can use 1 bpp more relative payload for embedding with the same stego image quality. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme has better hiding performance because it allows a huge amount of secret data to be hidden while maintaining the high visual quality of the stego image.

Abstract:In recent years, data hiding techniques have emerged as a prominent area of research due to the increasing demand for information security. Existing data hiding techniques typically do not prioritize the verification of the correctness of the extracted data, nor do they attempt to rectify any erroneous information extracted. This paper presents a simple yet effective method by which a recipient can perform error detection and correction on extracted data. Prior to data embedding, a preprocess is applied to secret data. After converting the secret data to a data stream, a data hider categorizes adjacent and identical bits within the data stream into groups. The number of these bits is then recorded as an indicator to extract information and perform error detection and correction. The number of bits in each group is adjusted to ensure that it is an odd number. Moreover, the collected indicator data stream is encoded using (7,4) Hamming code to compact the recorded information. Finally, the concatenation of the encoded indicator and the encoded secret is embedded into the multiple least significant bits (LSBs) of the original image pixels. As for the receiver, error correction can be applied based on the indicator after the extraction of the encoded data. Experimental results demonstrate that this method allows the data receiver to detect and correct errors while maintaining a certain level of embedding capacity and image quality. In terms of image quality, this method exhibits superior performance compared to existing research when the embedded data volume is relatively small.

Abstract:E-forensics investigates and extracts confidential information from electronic products; in other words, the anti-forensics indicates that evidences in those products are imperceptible and undetected. This work presents an anti-forensic steganography method that can embed and extract messages from images. Highlight of exploiting modification direction (HoEMD) and adaptive EMD (AdEMD) methods use the module operation and take into account of the sensitive nature of a human visual system. The HoEMD approach exploits the pixel directions. A pixel with a larger change implies more pixel directions and, ultimately, a larger embedding capacity. The pixel differencing in the proposed AdEMD method is used to evaluate whether the pixel located in the edge area can tolerate a larger change than that of the pixel location in a smooth area. To successfully extract a message, the differencing value is maintained on the same level before and after data is concealed; a delicate adjusting phase is used as well. In contrast with the PVD and LSB replacement method of Wu et al., LSB substitution method, and Lee and Chen's data hiding scheme based on modulus function, the proposed steganography system has a larger embedding capacity and a higher image quality. Effectiveness of the proposed steganography schemes over that of a previous blind steganalyzer is demonstrated using the statistical attack of Chi-square analysis.

Abstract:This paper proposes a novel method of reversible data hiding in JPEG images. After analyzing the JPEG features, we provide a new algorithm of selecting appropriate blocks and coefficients to carry secret messages. Instead of embedding data into the histogram of all coefficients, we propose a strategy of ordered embedding to hide data by histogram shifts in several rounds. On the recipient end, secret messages can be exactly extracted, and the original JPEG image can be losslessly recovered. Experimental results show that high embedding rate can be achieved with limited distortions. Most importantly, the marked JPEG file generated by the proposed method requires less storage size than state-of-the-art works.

Abstract:Digital steganography or data hiding has emerged as a new area of research in connection to the communication in secured channel as well as intellectual property protection for multimedia signals. The redundancy in image representation can be exploited successfully to embed specified characteristic information with a good quality of imperceptibility. The hidden multimedia information will be communicated to the authentic user through secured channel as a part of the data. This article deals with a transform domain, block-based and signal non-adaptive/adaptive technique for inserting multimedia signals into an RGB image. The robustness of the proposed method has been tested compared to the other transform domain techniques. Proposed algorithm also shows improvement in visual and statistical invisibility of the hidden information.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a novel real-time scheme of separable reversible data hiding in encrypted images, which consists of image encryption, data embedding, data extraction and image recovery. In image encryption phase, the content owner divides the original image into a number of non-overlapping blocks and encrypts blocks by stream cipher and permutation. During the data embedding phase, the data hider classifies encrypted blocks into smooth region and complex region according to the threshold and replaces the MSB layer of a part of pixels in blocks of smooth region with the secret data. Then, the LSB layers of other pixels are collected and compressed to generate a room for embedding the secret data again. When the receiver receives the marked image, he can divide the marked image into blocks and decrypt them by the encryption key to obtain a similar image with good quality. If the receiver only has the data hiding key, he can classify the blocks into smooth region and complex region according to the threshold and extract the embedded data by the data hiding key. If the receiver has both encryption key and data hiding key, he can extract the embedded data from the marked image and recover the original image perfectly. The proposed scheme can achieve satisfactory quality of decrypted image and high embedding rate. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and computational efficiency of our scheme.
