Abstract:Gabor wavelets (GWs) have been commonly used for extracting local features for various applications, such as recognition, tracking, and edge detection. However, extracting the Gabor features is computationally intensive, so the features may be impractical for real-time applications. In this paper, we propose a set of simplified version of GWs (SGWs) and an efficient algorithm for extracting the features for edge detection. Experimental results show that our SGW-based edge-detection algorithm can achieve a similar performance level to that using GWs, while the runtime required for feature extraction using SGWs is faster than that with GWs with the use of the fast Fourier transform. When compared to the Canny and other conventional edge-detection methods, our proposed method can achieve a better performance in the terms of detection accuracy and computational complexity.

Abstract:This paper proposes an efficient algorithm for edge detection. Our algorithm is based on an improved Gabor-wavelets-based (IGWs) edge detector, and can detect edges with eight directions. Morphological operations can be used as techniques for images pre- or post-processing, such as morphological filtering, thinning, and pruning. In this paper, we use it to thin the edge images extracted by IGWs. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperform the conventional edge detector algorithms.
A New Algorithm To Detect Edge For Infrared Image Based On Two-Dimension Continuous Wavelet Transform

Abstract:A new kind of algorithm to detect edge for infrared image is proposed employing the two-dimension continuous wavelet transforms. Direct calculation of the two-dimension continuous wavelet transform (TDCWT) for an image requires great amount of time and computer resources. FFT and inverse FFT are employed to compute convolution allowed to make such calculations practically possible and to reduce its time considerably. The two-dimension continuous wavelet transform is used to detect edge for infrared image here. Isotropy Mexican hat wavelet is selected as analyzing wavelet, which is able to meet our purpose because little texture information which is sensitive to directions in the infrared image. The Mexican hat wavelet has an excellent selectivity in position. It is quite efficient for a pointwise analysis, in particular the detection of local singularities (contours, corners). A new threshold algorithm is used directly to positive or negative wavelet coefficients in every resolution level at all scales so as to determine primary edge point sets. "Voting" method is proposed to integrate all the edge information at all scales. The new algorithm needn't connect edge points after threshold. Continuous and smooth edge can be obtained. The noise in the image can be suppressed to some extent, too. Experimental results show that the new algorithm can detect the whole contours and detail information in the infrared image well. It is more excellent than a few traditional edge detection operators in performance.

Abstract:In this paper an edge detection algorithm base on wavelet transform with Gaussian filter was proposed. In this algorithm original images are firstly converted into gray images and then each pixel was analyzed using wavelet transform to find the local maximum of the gray gradient of each pixel along the phase angle direction and compared with a given threshold value, through which real edge can be kept and fake ones will be eliminated. In the computation of local maximum, the gray gradients computed in eight directions, which can improve precision of edge detection. After the investigation of influence of filter length, scale and threshold value on the edge detection the proposed algorithm is validated by the comparison with N.L. Fenández-García’s Minimean and Minimax methods for 100 real color images. The extraction result is more close to the real image which indicates the algorithm is effective and can be used to extract edges in different research areas.

Abstract:Edge map is an important representation of human face image. It is of significance for automatic face image analysis. This paper presents a new method for the extraction of face image edges and a scheme for facial expression analysis based on the resulting binary edge images (BEI). Making use of the multi-resolution property of wavelet transform, the edge detection method includes two binarization steps and a noise removing step. Our method provides a robust solution to face image edge extraction, in particular, if changes of lighting conditions are encountered. Experimental results show that different components in a BEI are well separated and pixels of the same face component are connected well. Preliminary experimental results on facial expression analysis on the subsets of AR and Yale face databases show that recognition rates of above 93% can be achieved when our facial analysis scheme is used for recognizing four action units.

Abstract:To efficiently reduce the required measurement count for single-pixel imaging edge detection, this study devises an edge detection model based on W-transform single-pixel imaging. In this model, the convolution of the DoG (Difference of Gaussians) operator and W-transform basis patterns as modulation patterns are employed to directly extract edge information from the spectral domain of the target object. Different from traditional methods, it achieves the extraction of edge details from an object without imaging. Numerical simulations and experimental results demonstrate that this model extracts edges with higher signal-to-noise ratios compared to the edge extraction using phase-shifted sinusoidal patterns. Additionally, the proposed model reduces the number of modulation patterns required by half, so as to gain double efficiency. The integration of W-transform single-pixel imaging with edge detection offers a novel approach for edge detections without the need for imaging.

Abstract:An efficient algorithm for facial features extractions is proposed. The facial features we extracted are the edges of two eyes, nose and mouth. The algorithm is based on an improved Gabor wavelets edge detector to detect the face region and facial features regions. The experimental results show that the proposed method is robust against facial expression, illumination, and can be also effect if the person wearing glassed, and so on.

Abstract:Gabor wavelet is an essential tool for image analysis and computer vision tasks. Local structure tensors with multiple scales are widely used in local feature extraction. Our research indicates that the current corner detection method based on Gabor wavelets can not effectively apply to complex scenes. In this work, the capability of the Gabor function to discriminate the intensity changes of step edges, L-shaped corners, Y-shaped or T-shaped corners, X-shaped corners, and star-shaped corners are investigated. The properties of Gabor wavelets to suppress affine image transformation are investigated and obtained. Many properties for edges and corners were discovered, which prompted us to propose a new corner extraction method. To fully use the structural information from the tuned Gabor filters, a novel multi-directional structure tensor is constructed for corner detection, and a multi-scale corner measurement function is proposed to remove false candidate corners. Furthermore, we compare the proposed method with twelve current state-of-the-art methods, which exhibit optimal performance and practical application to 3D reconstruction with good application potential.

Abstract:This work shows the use of a two-dimensional Gabor wavelets in image processing. Convolution with such a two-dimensional wavelet can be separated into two series of one-dimensional ones. The key idea of this work is to utilize a Gabor wavelet as a multiscale partial differential operator of a given order. Gabor wavelets are used here to detect edges, corners and blobs. A performance of such an interest point detector is compared to detectors utilizing a Haar wavelet and a derivative of a Gaussian function. The proposed approach may be useful when a fast implementation of the Gabor transform is available or when the transform is already precomputed.

Abstract:Edge detection is one of most important fields in computer vision,and lots of algorithms have been proposed by former scholars.Based on properties of image and detector,and taking relevances as criterion,this paper proposes an algorithm which use genetic algorithm to select optimal wavelet transform scales to form an adaptive Gaussian wavelet scale space.By fusing image's edges detected at different scales in this scale space,image will be improved in edge details and noise immunity.Experiments show that this adaptive scale wavelet algorithm has advantage in terms of noise removing and corner points positioning over Canny algorithm,single-scale wavelet algorithm,binary scale wavelet algorithm or multi-scale wavelet a algorithm.

Abstract:A novel non-linear weighted statistical algorithm for multi-scale edge detection of gray image based on wavelet analysis is proposed to extract interface in multiphase flows. In this method, local modulus maximum of gray gradient along the phase angle direction is regarded as the possible edge (interface) of an image. A two-dimensional discrete Gaussian function with zero average value is adopted as smoothening filter. The influences of filter length, scale and threshold on the extracted edges are discussed in detail. In order to realize multi-scale detection, the local maximums of the wavelet transform modulus calculated under a series of the wavelet transform scales are used to detect the possible edge (interface) of an image. A modified Gaussian function is suggested to weight non-linearly those possible edges (interfaces) detected on different scales and a statistical function is proposed to synthesize the possibility of each pixel being edge over all scales. Compared with Canny operator, this new algorithm can extract the edge perfectly even with strong noise and light reflection, which shows the potential to extract the interface in multiphase flows.

Abstract:This paper presents an edge detection algorithm based on block-Discrete Cosine Transform (block-DCT). The DCT is the most popular transform for image and video compression. Many international standards such as JPEG, MPEC, and H.261 are based on a block DCT scheme. Since nowadays most edge detection algorithms based on block-DCT cannot overcome the blocking artifacts, the method proposed in this paper try to overcome this drawback in another springboard. The principle of the method is applying block-DCT twice to the image, using different block sizes respectively. Only three low frequency DCT coefficients are used in the detection progress, requiting only a limited amount of computation. Experiment results illustrate that the edge map is satisfactory.

Abstract:The defects of Pal.King algorithm was analyzed and hereby a novel improved algoritnm was presented.This algorithm introduced a new membership to simplify the calculation and boost the operationl;adopted the maximum average variance technique to determin the optimal threshold value;utilizing good local performance and multiscale analysis capability of wavelet transformation to more completely detect edges and better resisit noise.By experiment it is tested that this method can accurately detect desired edge points,efficiently keep edge connectivity,maintain clear and plentiful details.and meanwhile have strong resistance to noise.

Abstract:We present the nonsubsampled contourlet transform and its coefficient characteristics.A method of edge detection based on nonsubsampled contourlet transform which could extract and de-noise the edge coefficients efficiently,is presented.The method is characterized with the anti-noisy,multi direction option,high utilization of information by detecting edges in different channels,and accurate position by adjusting the two detected edges each other.By simulink experiment and comparison with Prewitt,Sobel,Canny and image edge detection arithmetic based on Multi Wavelet,the effectivity and superiority of this method are proved.

Abstract:This paper proposed a novel algorithm named 2D Gabor Wavelets Window (GWW) method. The GWW scans the image top left to bottom right to extract the local feature vectors (LFVs). A parametric feature vector is derived by downsampling and concatenating these LFVs for face representation and recognition. Compared with the Gabor Wavelets representation of the whole image, the total cost is reduced by maximum of 39% whilst the performance achieved better than the conventional PCA method when experimented on both the ORL and XM2VTSDB databases without any preprocessing.

Abstract:A fuzzy multiscale edge detection algorithm of im ag e based on wavelet multiresolution analysis is presented in this paper. The dyad ic wavelet transform is employed to produce the multiscale representation of ima ge, and fuzzy decision method is applied in wavelet domain of different scales. The information of images with different scales can be synthesized effectively, and an optimal result of edge detection can be acquired. The paper compares the performances of the new algorithm with the Canny algorithm and Mallats algori thm according to the concrete image signals. The results prove the feasibility a nd effectiveness of our algorithm over these other methods.

Abstract:The quality of edge detection is related to detection angle, scale, and threshold. There have been many algorithms to promote edge detection quality by some rules about detection angles. However these algorithm did not form rules to detect edges at an arbitrary angle, therefore they just used different number of angles and did not indicate optimized number of angles. In this paper, a novel edge detection algorithm is proposed to detect edges at arbitrary angles and optimized number of angles in the algorithm is introduced. The algorithm combines singularity detection with Gaussian wavelet transform and edge detection at arbitrary directions and contain five steps: 1) An image is divided into some pixel lines at certain angle in the range from 45 degrees to 90 degrees according to decomposition rules of this paper. 2) Singularities of pixel lines are detected and form an edge image at the certain angle. 3) Many edge images at different angles form a final edge images. 4) Detection angles in the range from 45 degrees to 90 degrees are extended to range from 0 degrees to 360 degrees. 5) Optimized number of angles for the algorithm is proposed. Then the algorithm with optimized number of angles shows better performances.

Abstract:Edge extraction from high spatial resolution (HSR) remotely sensed images is one of the essential tasks for image segmentation and object identification. We present an optimal Gabor-based edge detection method which mainly focuses on selecting optimal parameters, including central frequency and spectrum scale, for Gabor filter. The central frequency is automatically optimized by phase randomization and the human visual system-based structure similarity index. Next, the optimal spectrum scale is determined based on two-dimensional power spectrum density. The edge detection method is comprehensively discussed in the analysis of parameter sensitivity, overall performance, and comparative tests with several widely used methods. Qualitative and quantitative experimental studies, performed on six test images with various spatial resolution, show that the proposed method provides a promising solution to edge detection from HSR remotely sensed images.
