Abstract:Adaptive detection of range-spread target is addressed in compound-Gaussian clutter.Based on the secondary data,the adaptive modified scatterer density dependent(AMSDD) detector and the adaptive-dynamic-threshold(ADT) detector are designed,with the sample covariance matrix(SCM) or the recursive estimation(RE) matrix.The theoretical analyses of constant false alarm rate(CFAR) show that,the SCM-based detectors only hold the adaptiveness to the clutter covariance matrix structure(CCMS),while the RE-based detectors can ensure CFAR to both of CCMS and texture components.The performance assessment shows that,as for AMSDD and ADT,the RE-based detectors outperform the SCM-based ones,in terms of CFAR properties and detection performance.Moreover,the ADT based on RE performs robustly in the mismatch cases of the expected number of scatterers.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the problem of adaptive detection for range-spread targets with known Doppler and unknown complex amplitude in compound Gaussian clutter. The speckle component of the clutter is modeled as an autoregressive (AR) process. By using the generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) approach, we will first estimate the AR parameters and the unknown complex amplitude, and then propose an adaptive AR-based GLR detector. The performance assessments are presented too. The computer simulations show that the proposed detector, without a priori information of the covariance matrix, has the same asymptotical performances as the two-step GLR-based detector with known covariance matrix.
Maneuvering Target Tracking Algorithm Across Detection Blind Spots

Abstract:In pursuit of tracking multiple maneuvering targets efficiently, radar systems must ensure consistent tracking. Ground-based radar systems encounter challenges, particularly when maneuvering multi-targets exhibit radial velocities below the minimum detectable threshold, leading to their ingress into detection blind spots. Such occurrences result in data loss, significantly impeding subsequent command decisions. To address this issue, we propose a maneuvering multi-target tracking algorithm, which is called cross-detection blind spots maneuvering target tracking algorithm. This algorithm integrates the interacting multiple model-unscented Kalman filter (IMM-UKF) algorithm into the global nearest neighbor tracking framework, which can complete the tracking maneuvering multi-targets across blind spots. Simulation results demonstrate that the algorithm has higher accuracy and efficiency than the traditional methods in maneuvering multi-target tracking.

Abstract:Adaptive detection of range-spread targets is considered in the presence of subspace interference plus Gaussian clutter with unknown covariance matrix. The target signal and interference are supposed to lie in two linearly independent subspaces with deterministic but unknown coordinates. Relying on the two-step criteria, two adaptive detectors based on Gradient tests are proposed, in homogeneous and partially homogeneous clutter plus subspace interference, respectively. Both of the proposed detectors exhibit theoretically constant false alarm rate property against unknown clutter covariance matrix as well as the power level. Numerical results show that, the proposed detectors have better performance than their existing counterparts, especially for mismatches in the signal steering vectors.

Abstract:Aimed at the problem of detecting maneuvering targets in the Gaussian and sea clutter environments and based on the established motion state model, this paper proposed a new scheme that uses a joint radar-communication (JRC) system with Kalman filter to accurately detect the target with the generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) theory and a constant false alarm rate (CFAR) based threshold. Also, the theoretical threshold and probability function of GLRT target detection based on CFAR were given. Moreover, target detection probability of the new JRC system in Weibull and K distribution clutter is deduced. In addition to theoretical considerations, simulations and measurement results of the new JRC systems demonstrate excellent detection performance for maneuvering targets in the Weibull and K distribution channel.

Abstract:A new algorithm of maneuvering dim target detection of airborne radar is proposed,which cancel the clutter with signal subspace clutter rejection algorithm,and then using Keystone transform to calibrate target's range walking,and then using the modified Chirp-Fourier transform to estimate the target acceleration,and using the estimated value of the items move to compensate for Doppler to achieve the target's energy accumulation. The algorithm solve the problems which echo's SNR is low,exist range walking and Doppler migration. The simulation results show that the method can improve the airborne radar's detection of aerial maneuvering dim target.

Abstract:This letter addresses the persymmetric adaptive detection problem of range-spread targets in compound Gaussian sea clutter. Based on the generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT), Rao test, and Wald test, three novel compound Gaussian detectors are developed. Specifically, the sea clutter is modeled as compound Gaussian with inverse Gaussian distribution, and the detectors are derived by the two-step maximum a posterior (MAP) procedures. In the first step, we assume the clutter covariance matrix (CCM) and the inverse Gaussian texture are known and derive the proposed detectors' test statistics. In the second step, we use the persymmetric property and MAP criterion to estimate the CCM and inverse Gaussian texture parameters. Then the proposed detectors are proved to be constant false alarm rate (CFAR) detectors with respect to the real CCM. The simulation experiments are conducted by comparing the proposed detectors with their counterparts on both synthetic data and real sea clutter data. The numerical results indicate that the novel detectors exhibit better detection performance than their competitors.

Abstract:This paper considers the problem of detecting range-spread target in compound Gaussian clutter with inverse gamma texture when steering vector mismatch occurs. Fictitious signals which are orthogonal to the nominal signal steering vector in the truly-whitened observation space are added under the null hypothesis to enhance the selectivity. A selective detector is derived by resorting to the generalized likelihood ratio test. The performance assessment shows that the proposed detector has better mismatch discrimination capability than the previously proposed detectors.

Abstract:In this paper, we address detection of range spread targets with range walking in partially homogeneous clutter, which is often encountered in wideband radar. By considering the target range walking effect, a target returns model is proposed that represents the relationship between Doppler frequency and range frequency. Based on this, a generalized matched subspace detector (GMSD) and a general adaptive subspace detector (GASD) are proposed in the frequency domain. Moreover, to eliminate excess integration loss introduced by the mismatched detection window size, two improved detectors are proposed in range domain. The theoretical analysis shows that the GMSDs are of a constant false alarm rate (CFAR) with respect to both the power and the covariance matrix of the clutter but that the GASDs are of a CFAR with respect to the clutter power and an approximate CFAR with respect to the clutter covariance matrix. Simulated experiments are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed detectors.

Abstract:A new algorithm for detecting maneuvering target with high but unknown velocity in strong ground clutter background based on one dimension high resolution range profile (HRRP) is presented. The main idea is that the range cells integration detection in one sweep period with very high detection probability is performed regardless of false alarm probability, then the false alarms are removed off by means of features correlation in continuous sweep periods and integration with shifted range profiles. Theoretic analysis and experimental results prove that the algorithm can solve the detection problem with low signal-to-clutter ratio (SCR), low false alarm probability but high detection probability.

Abstract:The aim of this study is to analyze the influence of neglecting compound Gaussian clutter texture on wideband radar targets detection. The texture of compound-Gaussian clutter is researched, the Probability Density Function (PDF) expression of G0 distributed clutter is proposed. The optimal detection statistics treats the texture of G0 distributed clutter as a certain function is derived. As contrast, another detector neglects the clutter texture is derived. The numerical results are presented by means of Monte Carlo simulation strategy. Assume that cells of signal components are available. Those secondary data are supposed to possess either the same covariance matrix or the same structure of the covariance matrix of the cells under test. The simulation results highlight that the performance loss of the two detectors in different roughness parameter, the result shows the loss less than 2dB due to the texture is neglected and adaptively estimating the covariance matrix.
Adaptive polarimetric detection of range spread targets in heavy-tailed compound-Gaussian clutter

Abstract:The problem of detection for range spread targets is analyzed in complex clutter with unknown statistical characteristics. With polarization information of radar echo and training data available to estimate covariance matrix of clutter,a generalized likelihood ratio test( GLRT) based adaptive polarimetric detector is proposed. Then,the analytic expression of false alarm probability is derived to prove constant with respect to the clutter energy and clutter covariance matrix in theory. The simulation results show that the adaptive polarmetric detector achieves good detect probability even at a low target to clutter ratio,and has better detection performance than the adaptive polarimetric detector of point target and the adaptive detector using single polarization.

Abstract:This paper addresses adaptive detection of range-spread target in spherically invariant random vector clutter. Based on the nonadaptive detectors of NSDD-GLRT and SDD-GLRT, two adaptive detectors named ANSDD-GLRT and ASDD-GLRT are devised by replacing the unknown normalized clutter covariance matrix with the sample covariance matrix based on the secondary data. The formulas of detection probability and false alarm probability are deduced. Moreover, the constant false alarm rate properties of both adaptive detectors are assessed and the influence of mismatched steering vector on detection probability is analyzed. The experimental results show that the adaptive detectors have an acceptable loss with respect to the nonadaptive counterparts. Furthermore, the ANSDD-GLRT converges much faster than the ASDD-GLRT, however, the latter rejects the misaligned signals more effectively. Both detectors perform well for the uniformly-distributed-energy target, but degenerate for the fluctuating targets. In addition, the correlation between target scatterers results in an additional gain for low signal-to-clutter power ratio.

Abstract:This paper focuses on the adaptive detection of range and Doppler dual-spread targets in non-homogeneous and non-Gaussian sea clutter. The sea clutter from two polarimetric channels is modeled as a compound-Gaussian model with different parameters, and the target is modeled as a subspace range-spread target model. The persymmetric structure is used to model the clutter covariance matrix, in order to reduce the reliance on secondary data of the designed detectors. Three adaptive polarimetric persymmetric detectors are designed based on the generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT), Rao test, and Wald test. All the proposed detectors have constant false-alarm rate property with respect to the clutter texture, the speckle covariance matrix. Experimental results on simulated and measured data show that three adaptive detectors outperform the competitors in different clutter environments, and the proposed GLRT detector has the best detection performance under different parameters.

Abstract:This paper considers range distributed target detection in compound-Gaussian clutter, which is often arisen in high resolution radars. Two dynamic programming based track-before-detect (DP-TBD) strategies, i.e., noncoherent integration based DP-TBD (NCI-DP-TBD) and the generalized likelihood ratio test based DP-TBD (GLRT-DP-TBD) strategies, are proposed to address the detection problem. The detection performances of the proposed strategies are examined via numerical simulations.

Abstract:This paper deals with adaptive detection of distributed targets in the presence of signal mismatch in compound Gaussian clutter. The texture is assumed random to match the non-Gaussian environment. To increase the capability of rejecting mismatched signals, a fictitious subspace signal is introduced under the null hypothesis. Under the above assumptions, we propose two adaptive selective detectors by using two-step generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) and maximum a-posteriori (MAP) GLRT design criteria. The two new detectors are demonstrated to achieve constant false alarm rate property with respect to the speckle covariance matrix. Abstract:To improve the detection performance in the presence of target-steering vector mismatches, a novel robust adaptive matched filter (AMF) detector for compound Gaussian clutter is proposed. First, the multivariate inverse Gaussian distribution is first introduced to compound Gaussian clutter model. Second, the texture value is estimated with maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimator in spatial domain, which has a closed form and is not affected by the target's steering vector mismatch. A robust AMF detector is derived based on this estimation. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed detector can achieve better performance in the presence of target-steering vector mismatches.

Abstract:Proper prior knowledge of target scattering centers (SCs) can help to obtain better detection performance of range-spread targets. However, target SCs are sensitive to the target’s attitude relative to the radar and vary significantly among different targets. The existing approaches that employ predetermined prior knowledge may suffer performance degradation when the prior information does not match the practical scenarios. A possible way to circumvent this drawback is to estimate the SCs of different targets adaptively and check the presence of a target utilizing the range cells occupied by the most likely target SCs. For this reason, this article develops a generalized likelihood ratio test based on adaptive SCs estimation (ASCE-GLRT) for range-spread target detection in compound-Gaussian clutter. Under the assumption that the target SCs are sparse, we model the problem of SCs estimation as a sparse signal representation. Moreover, since the sparse assumption may not always be satisfied in practice, a modified sparsity regularization method is proposed to enhance the robustness of the estimation performance of targets with different scattering characteristics. A theoretical analysis shows that the proposed detector can achieve the constant false alarm rate (CFAR) property. The performance assessments conducted by numerical simulation and field tests confirm the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed detector.

Abstract:This paper focuses on the moving target detection (MTD) problem for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar in the presence of compound-Gaussian clutter. By exploiting the spatial and velocity diversities, we devise two different generalized likelihood ratio tests (GLRTs) according to the centralized and distributed processing schemes of MIMO radar systems, respectively. Then, we investigate the fully adaptive detectors, where the covariance matrix is replaced by a suitable estimator based on the secondary data. Finally, we provide several numerical simulations with typical parameters, and the results illustrate that the newly proposed detectors can provide much better detection performance in spikier clutter for moving targets than the phased-array counterpart and those obtained in Gaussian environment.
