Abstract:Dyclonine hydrochloride, a surface anesthetic, is a widely used local anesthetic with great market demands. High-purity dyclonine hydrochloride has aroused widespread interest in the clinic, which can be improved by crystallization. The solubility of dyclonine hydrochloride in different solvents is significant for its crystallization process. In this work, we studied the molar fraction solubility of dyclonine hydrochloride in eight pure solvents [methanol, ethanol, water, acetone, ethyl acetate, n-hexane, dimethylformamide (DMF), and tetrahydrofuran (THF)] and four binary mixed solvents (ethanol + n-hexane, methanol + THF, ethanol + ethyl acetate, and ethanol + water) using the static equilibrium method at T = 278.15–323.15 K. The modified Apelblat model and the Buchowski–Ksiazaczak λh model (for pure solvents) and the CNIBS/R-K model, and the Jouyban–Acree model (for binary mixed solvents) were used to fit the experimental data. The models applied in this work yielded satisfactory fits for the experimental data. Model evaluation metrics, including the average value of relative average deviation and root mean square deviation of the equations, were used to compare the correlations between different models. Specifically, the modified Apelblat model correlation yielded better fits than the Buchowski–Ksiazaczak λh model in the single solution systems. Furthermore, the CNIBS/R-K model exhibited the best correlation in the binary mixed solvents. This study provides the theoretical basis of the engineering design of dyclonine hydrochloride, which significantly contributes to further studies.
