Abstract:Photocatalytic H-2 production from H2O is promising for solving the energy and environment problems. Zeolites have been widely used in thermocatalysis, but their application in photocatalysis is limited. Herein, we anchor CdS and Pt nanoparticles on a NaY zeolite (ZP48) fabricated via 48 h crystallization to form a CdS/Pt/ZP48 photocatalyst for visible-light-driven photocatalytic H-2 production from H2O. CdS/Pt/ZP48 shows a H-2 production rate (686.5 lmol h(-1)) which is higher than those on Pt/CdS (263.2 lmol h(-1)) and photocatalysts with zeolite supports prepared by using crystallization times shorter and longer than 48 h, with an apparent quantum efficiency of 23.5% and superior stability. ZP48 promotes the separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs, thus releasing more electrons for enhancing the photocatalytic H-2 production on CdS/Pt/ZP48. These results are helpful for fabricating more efficient photocatalysts by zeolites which are widely used in industry but have poor ability in light absorption and charge transfer. Modulating Charge Transfer Pathways to Enhance Photocatalytic Performance of the Metal-Organic Layer Nanosheet

Abstract:Two-dimensional metal-organic layer (MOL) nanosheets, as nonhomogeneous catalysts, show better optical activity in the field of photocatalysis due to their unique structural advantages. Current research focuses on how to modify the structure of 2D nanosheets by means of crystal engineering to modulate the intralayer electron transfer pathway and systematically investigate the impacts of size effect and electron transfer pathway on the energy utilization efficiency of crystalline materials. In the present work, a triple lophine-derived ligand was designed and prepared, which exhibits a large π-conjugation system and multiple D-A (D: donor, A: acceptor) electron transfer pathways. 2D MOL constructed with Cd ions can be exfoliated by physical sonication to obtain double-walled 2D MOL nanosheets. Compared with the bulk crystalline material, the 2D nanosheets exhibit better photovoltaic properties. Benefiting from the excellent structural advantages, 2D MOL nanosheets could be used as photocatalysts for a variety of aerobic oxidation reactions under mild conditions (10 W white LED, room temperature), such as the trifluoromethylation of coumarins, the synthesis of benzimidazole derivatives from aromatic diamines and aromatic aldehydes, and the preparation of 2,4,6-triarylpyridine derivatives, all with high conversion rates and selectivity (yield typically greater than 88%). The related results illustrate that the introduction of the photoactive triple-lophine unit into 2D MOL nanosheets can effectively modulate the electron transport mode and enhance energy utilization, which provides a new research idea for the development of nonhomogeneous photocatalysts aimed at the applications of visible light-driven organic conversion.

Abstract:The Z-scheme photocatalytic system for water splitting based on semiconductors has exhibited great potential for H-2 fuel production from renewable resources. In this work, we constructed g-C3N4/Au/C-TiO2 hollow spheres as an all-solid-state Z-scheme photocatalytic system with Au nanoparticles as the electron mediator. The as-synthesized g-C3N4/Au/C-TiO2 photocatalyst showed a remarkably enhanced photocatalytic H-2 evolution rate under visible-light irradiation (lambda > 420nm), which was 86 and 42times higher than those of pure C-TiO2 and g-C3N4, respectively. The enhancement of photocatalytic performance can be mainly attributed to the intentionally designed Z-scheme system, which not only promoted the efficient transfer and separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs, but also retained the strong redox ability of the charge carriers. In addition, the Z-scheme system also achieved high visible-light absorption and utilization owing to the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of Au nanoparticles and hollow structures of C-TiO2. All the factors synergistically promote the photocatalytic activity of the g-C3N4/Au/C-TiO2 hollow nanospheres, providing a promising method for the rational design of highly efficient visible-light-driven photocatalysts.

Abstract:The Cd0.8Zn0.2S/In2S3 porous nanotubes heterojunction is fabricated via chemical-hydrothermal method. Cd0.8Zn0.2S/In2S3 heterojunction (Cd0.8Zn0.2S/In2S3-3) exhibits a prominent enhanced photocatalytic HER activity (∼3480.91 μmol g−1 h−1, AQE of ∼12.09%) and photodegradation than single In2S3 (∼40 folds/∼10 folds) and single Cd0.8Zn0.2S (∼30 folds/∼4 folds). There, the Cd0.8Zn0.2S/In2S3 heterojunction with great potential gradient, bimetallic synergism, crystal lattice matching and visible light response can ameliorate carrier efficiency effectively, including transportation increasing, lifetime prolonging, recombination decreasing, and can be supported by the DFT. In addition, formed porous nanotubes microstructural can increase photocatalytic active sites and light reflections, and shorten carrier pathway, meanwhile maintaining a good stability. Herein, the modification of heterojunction, bimetallic synergy and hollow tubular structure can provide new sights for preparing green energy-environmental materials.

Abstract:We have demonstrated a sandwich-structured Fe3O4/SiO2/Au/TiO2 photocatalyst, which shows magnetic separability, selective absorption and photocatalysis activity, and high efficiency, in catalyzing the decomposition of organic compounds under illumination of visible-light and simulated sunlight. The structural design of the photocatalyst takes advantage of the dense, homogeneous structure and the AuNPs content (ca. 4 nm, 1.63 wt%), which is prepared by a simple method. It possesses high efficiency visible-light photocatalytic activity due to the stable from nonmetal-doping and the plasmonic metal decoration, which enhances light harvesting and charge separation, and the small grain size of the anatase nanocrystals, which reduces the exciton recombination rate. More importantly, the catalyst is synthesized by a combination of plasmonic metal decoration of TiO2 nanocrystals with exposed {001} facets, and the selective adsorption and photocatalytic decomposition of azo dyes is accomplished by design of the surface chemistry. Additionally, these sandwich-structured photocatalysts can be applied to other catalytic system such as dye decoloration, water decomposition, hydrogen generation, and so on.

Abstract:One-dimensional nanostructures are of great interest for a wide range of applications. In this work, we demonstrated the fabrication of visible-light-responsive Cu2O porous nanosheet arrays. The synthesis involved the growth of Cu(OH)(2) nanosheet arrays on Cu mesh by solution-based corrosion and thermal transformation of Cu(OH)(2) nanosheet to Cu2O porous nanosheets on Cu mesh. Benefiting from the one dimensional array structure and porous structure, the as-prepared Cu2O porous nanosheet arrays exhibited significantly improved photocatalytic activity for methyl orange degradation under visible light irradiation. Abstract:Synthesizing ultrathin 2D metal-organic framework nanosheets in high yields has received increasing research interest but remains a great challenge. In this work, ultrathin zirconium-porphyrinic metal-organic framework (MOF) nanosheets with thickness down to approximate to 1.5 nm are synthesized through a pseudoassembly-disassembly strategy. Owing to the their unique properties originating from their ultrathin thickness and highly exposed active sites, the as-prepared ultrathin nanosheets exhibit far superior photocatalysis performance compared to the corresponding bulk MOF. This work highlights new opportunities in designing ultrathin MOF nanosheets and paves the way to expand the potential applications of MOFs.

Abstract:Photocatalytic CO2 reduction is limited by high reaction barriers of CO2 activation, resulting in low conversion efficiency of light energy to chemical energy, especially within the visible light range. To enhance the performance of photocatalytic CO2 reduction, the rational design of the chemical environment on the catalyst surface is conducive to the activation of reactive molecules. Here, we prepared porous Bi5O7I with surface charge-rich Bi(3−x)+ ions by template calcination. The experimental results show that Bi ions accumulated charges on the surface of Bi5O7I have superior adsorption and activation abilities for CO2 molecules than the precursor BiOIO3. Besides, Bi5O7I exhibits better charge transfer capability and roughly double the catalytic activity under visible light irradiation for CO production. This work developed a new facile approach for fabrication of high-performance photocatalysts and provided new insight on the mechanism of CO2 photoreduction.
Ti3C2 Nanosheets Modified Zr-MOFs with Schottky Junction for Boosting Photocatalytic HER Performance

Abstract:As newly-developing non-noble metallic co-catalysts, MXenes have attracted intensive attention as an ideal candidate to promote the photocatalytic H-2-production activity. In this study, Ti3C2 nanosheets prepared by intercalation were further attached to porous MOFs (UiO-66-NH2) via one-pot hydrothermal method to form face-to-face intimate contact. The obtained TU10 presented the highest photocatalytic H-2-evolution rates in TU series, exceeding that of pure UiO-66-NH2 by approximately 8 times. The speculation revolving about enhanced photocatalytic H-2-production performance was proposed as the presence of exposed active sites at the edge of Ti3C2 nanosheets and spatial separation and transfer of charge carriers introduced by the Schottky junction at TU series interface, which accumulated the photo-induced electrons on the surface of Ti3C2 nanosheets and improved its electron-donating ability. The DFT calculations revealed that O-terminated Ti3C2 possessed the most positive Fermi level and the lowest Gibbs free energy (vertical bar Delta GH*vertical bar = 0.08 approximate to 0). This work may provide new insights for constructing MXenes/MOFs structure based on Schottky junction effect to achieve high photocatalytic H-2-production performance.
Ultrathin Metal–Organic Framework Nanosheets with Ultrahigh Loading of Single Pt Atoms for Efficient Visible‐Light‐Driven Photocatalytic H 2 Evolution

Abstract:A surfactant-stabilized coordination strategy is used to make two-dimensional (2D) single-atom catalysts (SACs) with an ultrahigh Pt loading of 12.0 wt %, by assembly of pre-formed single Pt atom coordinated porphyrin precursors into free-standing metal-organic framework (MOF) nanosheets with an ultrathin thickness of 2.4±0.9 nm. This is the first example of 2D MOF-based SACs. Remarkably, the 2D SACs exhibit a record-high photocatalytic H2 evolution rate of 11 320 μmol g-1 h-1 via water splitting under visible light irradiation (λ>420 nm) compared with those of reported MOF-based photocatalysts. Moreover, the MOF nanosheets can be readily drop-casted onto solid substrates, forming thin films while still retaining their photocatalytic activity, which is highly desirable for practical solar H2 production.

Flexible 3D MoS2–TiO2 nanorod arrays heterojunction structures for high visible light photocatalysis

Abstract:Visible light photocatalysis is of great importance in waste water photodegradation and photoelectrochemical clean energy generation. The preparation of visible light photocatalysts with high photocatalytic activity, stability, and recyclability is desirable and challenging. In this paper, we design flexible three-dimensional (3D) MoS 2 –TiO 2 nanorod arrays (NRAs) heterojunction structures. Specifically, the peony-shape MoS 2 nanosheets (NS) were loaded on 3D rutile TiO 2 NRAs supported by flexible conductive carbon cloth (CC) substrate by ALD technique and two-step hydrothermal process. The visible light photocatalytic activity of as-prepared flexible 3D MoS 2 –TiO 2 NRAs heterojunction structures is about 40 times higher than that of pure rutile TiO 2 NRAs. More importantly, after 7 times cycling tests, the prepared photocatalytic system still holds 98.634 ± 0.936% photodegradation efficiency. The addition of coarse surface MoS 2 NS not only broadens the light adsorption edge to the visible light range but also provides plentiful active reaction sites. The type-II heterojunction formed at the interface between contacted MoS 2 and TiO 2 efficiently prolongs the lifetime of photogenerated electron–hole pairs, inhibiting the recombination of photo-induced carrier. The 3D structures reduce the surface light reflection loss, improving the light utilization efficiency. Moreover, the binder-free combination between photocatalyst and substrate enables fast electron immigration path, promoting carrier separation efficiency. Currently prepared flexible 3D MoS 2 –TiO 2 NRAs are capable of an outstanding candidate for large-scale practical visible light or solar light photocatalytic applications.

Abstract:The construction of S-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts has been regarded as an effective avenue to facilitate the conversion of solar energy to fuel. However, there are still considerable challenges with regard to efficient charge transfer, the abundance of catalytic sites, and extended light absorption. Herein, an S-scheme heterojunction of 2D/2D zinc porphyrin-based metal-organic frameworks/BiVO4 nanosheets (Zn-MOF/BVON) was fabricated for efficient photocatalytic CO2 conversion. The optimal one shows a 22-fold photoactivity enhancement when compared to the previously reported BiVO4 nanoflake (ca. 15 nm), and even exhibits ~2-time improvement than the traditional g-C3N4/BiVO4 heterojunction. The excellent photoactivities are ascribed to the strengthened S-scheme charge transfer and separation, promoted CO2 activation by the well-dispersed metal nodes Zn2(COO)4 in the Zn-MOF, and extended visible light response range based on the results of the electrochemical reduction, electron paramagnetic resonance, and in-situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy. The dimension-matched Zn-MOF/BVON S-scheme heterojunction endowed with highly efficient charge separation and abundant catalytic active sites contributed to the superior CO2 conversion. This study offers a facile strategy for constructing S-scheme heterojunctions involving porphyrin-based MOFs for solar fuel production.

Oxygenated Triazine-Heptazine Heterostructure Creates an Enormous Ascension to the Visible Light Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution Performance of Porous C3 N4 Nanosheets

Abstract:A highly efficient g-C3 N4 photocatalyst is developed by a novel one-pot thermal polymerization method under a salt fog environment generated by heating the aqueous solution of urea and mixed metal salts of NaCl/KCl, namely SF-CN. Thanks to the synergistic effect of the oxygenation and chemical etching of the salt fog, the obtained SF-CN is an oxygenated ultrathin porous carbon nitride with an intermolecular triazine-heptazine heterostructure, meanwhile, shows enlarged specific surface area, greatly enhanced absorption of visible light, narrowed band gap with a lower conduction band, and an increased photocurrent response due to the effective separation of photogenerated holes and electrons, comparing to those of pristine g-C3 N4 . The theoretical simulations further reveal that the triazine-heptazine heterostructure possesses better photocatalytic hydrogen evolution (PHE) capability than pure triazine and heptazine carbon nitrides. In turn, SF-CN demonstrates an excellent visible light PHE rate of 18.13 mmol h-1 g-1 , up to 259.00 times of that of pristine g-C3 N4 .

Abstract:As photocatalysis technology could transform renewable and clean solar energy into green hydrogen (H2 ) energy through solar water splitting, it is regarded as the "Holy Grail" in chemistry field in the 21st century. Unfortunately, the bottleneck of this technique still lies in the exploration of highly active, cost-effective, and robust photocatalysts. This work reports the design and synthesis of a novel zeolitic imidazole framework (ZIF) coupled Zn0.8 Cd0.2 S hetero-structured photocatalyst for high-performance visible-light-induced H2 production. State-of-the-art characterizations and theoretical computations disclose that the interfacial electronic interaction between ZIF and Zn0.8 Cd0.2 S, the high distribution of Zn0.8 Cd0.2 S on ZIF, and the atomically dispersed coordinately unsaturated Co sites in ZIF synergistically arouse the significantly improved visible-light photocatalytic H2 production performance.

Abstract:We report one dimensional (1D) MoS2 nanosheet/porous TiO2 nanowire hybrid nanostructures synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method, leading to an enhanced specific surface area (66 m(2) g(-1)). These 1D hybrid nanostructures as co-catalysts exhibit high activity in visible light photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) with an enhanced hydrogen generation rate of 16.7 mmol h(-1) g(-1).

Abstract:Developing highly active, recyclable, and inexpensive photocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) under visible light is significant for the direct conversion of solar energy into chemical fuels for various green energy applications. For such applications, it is very challenging but vitally important for a photocatalyst to simultaneously enhance the visible-light absorption and suppress photogenerated electron-hole recombination, while also to maintain high stability and recyclability. Herein, a metal-organic framework (MOF)-templated strategy has been developed to prepare heterostructured nanocatalysts with superior photocatalytic HER activity. Very uniquely, the synthesized photocatalytic materials can be recycled easily after use to restore the initial photocatalytic activity. It is shown that by controlling the calcination temperature and time with MOF-5 as a host and guest thioacetamide as a sulfur source, the chemical compositions of the formed heterojunctions of ZnO/ZnS can be tuned to further enhance the visible-light absorption and photocatalytic activity. The nanoscale heterojunction ZnO/ZnS structural feature serves to reduce the average free path of charge carriers and improve the charge separation efficiency, thus leading to significantly enhanced HER activity under visible-light irradiation (λ > 420 nm) with high stability and recyclability without any cocatalyst.
