Abstract:The electrical resistivity and thermal conductivity of a polycrystalline gold nanoribbon have been measured in an applied magnetic field up to 14 T in the temperature range from 2 to 300 K. The temperature squared dependence of the nanoribbon resistivity below 40 K indicates the electron scattering dominated by the effects of grain boundaries and surfaces. It is also found that the magnetoresistance of the gold nanoribbon increases with the magnetic field strength, and takes a maximum value at 10 K for different magnetic field strengths, which is related to the interaction of the electron scattering and the electron-phonon collision in the ribbon. The influence of the strong magnetic field on the electrical and thermal transport properties of the suspended gold nanoribbon is ultraweak. The present nanoribbon still does not follow the Wiedemann-Franz law within the experimental conditions. Furthermore, the scaling represented by Kohler's rule is still valid even for electron scattering mechanisms.
