Abstract:Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) has shown increasing importance for the creation of functional nanomaterials. Here we demonstrate the quick preparation of MoS2 nanoflowers decorated with platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs) by a simple one-step hydrothermal synthesis. Scanning and transmission electron microscopy techniques were utilized to investigate the morphology of the fabricated MoS2-PtNP nanohybrids and the uniform decoration of PtNPs on MoS2. Other techniques like X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction were used to measure the structure and properties of the synthesized MoS2-PtNP nanohybrids. We expected the created MoS2-PtNP nanohybrids to show excellent performance for biosensor applications. To prove this, the synthesized MoS2-PtNP nanohybrids were utilized in the application of an electrochemical hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) sensor by using the nanohybrids to modify the glass carbon electrode. Our sensing result indicates that the fabricated MoS2-PtNP based H2O2 sensor reveals a wide linear range (0.02 to 4.72 mM), low detection limit (0.345 mu M, S/N - 3), high selectivity, and long-term stability (at least two weeks).

Abstract:Binary transition metal oxides (BTMOs) have drawn considerable attention in recent years for their excellent catalytic properties and chemical stability in the sensing field. Regrettably, the loss of active site exposure originating from the agglomerate during preparation largely restricted their sensing applications. In this work, we report an efficient strategy for advancing the performance of BTMOs in rapid detection based on a 3D molybdenum disulfide nanoflower. The larger surface area, multiple active site exposures, and higher electrical conductivity promote the dispersion of BTMOs and the redox reaction of analytes on the surface of nanocomposites, thereby enhancing the sensitivity and widening the quantitative range. As a proof-of-method application, ferric vanadate (FeVO4) and ciprofloxacin (CIP) were chosen as model catalysts and analytes, respectively. This approach exhibits excellent sensitivity, selectivity, repeatability, and stability. The detection limit could be as low as 26.6 nM, and the linear range covered 3 orders of magnitude (from 0.1 to 500 μM). It also demonstrated good practicality in milk, honey, and drinking water with a recovery of 90.6% to 100.8%. To our knowledge, this is the first report on incorporating MoS2 into BTMOs for augmenting sensing performance in rapid detection.

Abstract:Starting with metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), a facile process was demonstrated toward the synthesis of porous FeP nanocubes. Herein, Prussian blue nanocubes were used as iron-based MOFs precursors, and converted into FeP nanocubes through the thermal phosphidation reaction. Then, the FeP nanocubes were exploited as a peroxidase mimetic, which not only has the advantages of low cost, high stability, and easy preparation, but also follows Michaelis-Menten behaviors and shows strong affinity to substrates. On the basis of high catalytic activity of FeP nanocubes, a rapid, and convenient approach was developed for the colorimetric detection of H2O2 from 2μM to 130μM and with a detection limit of 0.62μM. The good catalytic activity and high stability make the porous FeP nanocubes a useful catalyst for a wide range of potential applications in catalysis and biotechnology.

Abstract:A two-dimensional (2D) Ni based metal-organic framework (MOF) nanosheets were synthesized using a one-step solvent-thermal method. The as-prepared nanosheets were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy disperse spectroscopy (EDS) mapping. Ni-MOF nanosheet was first time found to used as a peroxidase mimetic with catalytic activities and could catalyze the oxidation of the substrate 3,3,5,5-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Catalytic mechanism analysis suggested the enzymatic kinetics of Ni-MOF nanosheets followed typical Michaelis-Menten theory and Ni-MOF nanosheets possess a higher affinity for two substrates (TMB and H2O2) than horseradish peroxidase (HRP). Furthermore, Ni-MOF nanosheet was applied to establish an H2O2 colorimetric sensor which deserves a wide linear range of 0.04 ~ 160 μM and a low detection limit of 8 nM. Also the application of this sensor for H2O2 detection in human serum and disinfectant was demonstrated and satisfactory results were obtained. Thus, the simple and sensitive Ni-MOF/TMB/H2O2 colorimetric system has great promising applications in clinical medicine and food environment analysis.

Abstract:A hybrid of metal-organic frameworks (Fe, Mn) and Au nanoparticles anchored carbon nanotubes (Au/MOFs(Fe, Mn)/CNTs) was fabricated by a facile one-step hydrothermal process. The Au/MOFs(Fe, Mn)/CNTs exhibit highly enhanced peroxidase-like activity, because of the increased active sites, the enhanced partial charge density and electron transfer among the Fermi level of MOFs, Au and CNTs, as well as the synergistic action of Fe and Mn. The hybrid nanomaterials with high catalytic velocity (Vmax = 17.65 × 10-7 M s-1) and affinity (Km = 0.33 mM) for substrates of H2O2 display a great detection performance in the range of 0.34-53.05 nM with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.18 nM (S/N = 3). Based on the cascade reaction of the artificial peroxidase and glucose oxidase (GOx), the glucose was further better detected in a linear range of 0.005-0.3 μM with a LOD of 0.002 μM (S/N = 3). Notably, considering the regulated peroxidase-like activity by sulfadimethoxine (SDM) aptamer, the concentration of SDM ranging from 0.54 to 41.58 μg L-1 was also detected with a LOD of 0.35 μg L-1 (S/N = 3). The as-synthesized hybrid nanozymes hold promising applications as the multifunctional sensing platform in environmental and biologic target detection with the combination of corresponding enzyme or specific aptamer.
Enhanced peroxidase-like activity of Fe@PCN-224 nanoparticles and their applications for detection of H2O2and glucose

Abstract:Inspired by natural hemin structure, the fabrication of metal organic framework (MOF) nanomaterials constructed by metal ions and iron porphyrin for peroxidase mimicking has attracted extensive attention recently due to their high concentration of active sites and great channeling for substrate diffusion. Herein, by using benzoic acid as capping agent, we fabricated uniform PCN-224 nanoparticles (NPs), which were composed of Zr6 cluster and tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin (H2TCPP). Then Fe(Ⅲ) ions were incorporated into the center of H2TCPP producing iron porphyrin unit similar to hemin serving as catalytic active site. The procedure of iron incorporation didn't change the size and morphology of PCN-224 NPs. The newly formed Fe@PCN-224 NPs possessed peroxidase-like activity with much lower Km values and higher Kcat values than most of peroxidase-like nanozymes as well as natural horseradish peroxidase (HRP), indicating their enhanced catalytic activity. Taking advantage of the excellent peroxidase-like activity of Fe@PCN-224 NPs, we successfully developed a colorimetric method for simple and sensitive detection of hydrogen peroxide and glucose in combination with glucose oxidase.

Abstract:The use of nanoprobes in sensors is a popular way to amplify their analytical performance. Coupled with two-dimensional nanomaterials, nanoprobes have been widely used to construct fluorescence, electrochemical, electrochemiluminescence (ECL), colorimetric, surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensors for target molecules’ detection due to their extraordinary signal amplification effect. The MoS2 nanosheet is an emerging layered nanomaterial with excellent chemical and physical properties, which has been considered as an ideal supporting substrate to design nanoprobes for the construction of sensors. Herein, the development and application of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2)-based nanoprobes is reviewed. First, the preparation principle of MoS2-based nanoprobes was introduced. Second, the sensing application of MoS2-based nanoprobes was summarized. Finally, the prospect and challenge of MoS2-based nanoprobes in future were discussed.

Abstract:Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are considered as promising electrocatalytic materials because of its good designability and structural diversity. Herein, the composite materials of Cu2S/Ni3S2@Ni-BDC/NF are successfully synthesized through the hydrothermal and electrodeposition methods. The distinctive heterostructure provides ample active sites and retains structural integrity to promote durability. When it is explored as bifunctional electrocatalyst, the overpotential of 63 mV at 10 mA cm−2 current density for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), the overpotential of 353 mV at 50 mA cm−2 current density for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). In a two-electrode system, an extremely low cell voltage of 1.55 V is required to achieve 20 mA cm−2 current density. Moreover, Cu2S/Ni3S2@Ni-BDC exhibits satisfactory glucose sensitivity of 56,220 μA mM−1 cm−2 and outstanding anti-interference performance. This design not only successfully constructs 0D/2D heterogeneous interface of electrocatalyst, but also demonstrates the multifunctional application potential of water splitting and glucose electrochemical sensors.

Abstract:In this paper, integrating heterometallic units and nanostructures into metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) were applied to improve the sensitivity of detecting hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in neutral solution. The bimetal-MOFs (CuCo-BDC) and GO composite (CuCo-BDC/GO) were first synthesized via an ordinary one-step solvothermal synthesis. The CuCo-BDC/GO with admirable peroxidase-like catalytic activity could be applied to detect H2O2. The results have low detection limit of 69 nM (S/N = 3) and a wide linear detection range, from 100 nM to 3.5 mM. This is superior to recently published biosensors based on noble metal nanomaterials, which confirms CuCo-BDC/GO as the MOF electrocatalysts with high performance. The remarkable electroanalytical performance of CuCo-BDC/GO is due to the presence of numerous open metal active sites, the synergistic effect of Cu2+ and Co2+, hierarchical structure with high-specific surface areas and the marvelous electrochemical properties of GO. Therefore, CuCo-BDC/GO is a powerful candidate for detecting H2O2 in electrochemical biosensing fields. Moreover, H2O2 detection in real samples can be done with the CuCo-BDC/GO, including human serum samples. Therefore, the novel CuCo-BDC/GO is a promising catalyst that can be applied in biotechnological and environmental applications.

Direct Electrodeposition of Bimetallic Nanostructures on Co-Based MOFs for Electrochemical Sensing of Hydrogen Peroxide

Abstract:Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is the most significant reactive oxygen species in biological systems. Here, we reported an electrochemical sensor for the detection of H2O2 on the basis of bimetallic gold-platinum nanoparticles (Au3Pt7 NPs) supported by Co-based metal organic frameworks (Co-MOFs). First, Au3Pt7 NPs, with optimal electrocatalytic activity and accessible active surface, can be deposited on the surface of the Co-MOF-modified glassy carbon electrodes (Au3Pt7/Co-MOFs/GCE) by one-step electrodeposition method. Then, the electrochemical results demonstrated that the two-dimensional (2D) Co-MOF nanosheets as the supporting material displayed better electrocatalytic properties than the 3D Co-MOF crystals for reduction of H2O2. The fabricated Au3Pt7/2D Co-MOF exhibited high electrocatalytic activity, and the catalytic current was linear with H2O2 concentration from 0.1 μM to 5 mM, and 5-60 mM with a low detection limit of 0.02 μM (S/N = 3). The remarkable electroanalytical performance of Au3Pt7/2D Co-MOF can be attributed to the synergistic effect of the high dispersion of the Au3Pt7 NPs with the marvelous electrochemical properties and the 2D Co-MOF with high-specific surface areas. Furthermore, this sensor has been utilized to detect H2O2 concentrations released from the human Hela cells. This work provides a new method for improving the performance of electrochemical sensors by choosing the proper support materials from diverse crystal morphology materials.

Abstract:A tailored metal-organic framework transducer material Cu-BDC(NH2)@2-MI was synthesized with 2-methylimidazole as competitive ligand for the modulation of its morphology and catalytic activity. 2-MI effectively helped the deprotonation of 2-aminoterephthalic acid and enabled the fast generation of MOF crystals at room temperature. More importantly, this 2-MI-doped MOF exhibited well-tuned morphology and was able to assist efficient redox procedures in electrochemical H2O2 reduction. Therefore, a prototype H2O2 sensor can present decent linear ranges from 10 μM to 13.28 mM and a detection limit of 0.97 μM. This novel design could boost the utilization of proprietary MOFs materials out of laboratory.

Abstract:Enzyme-based electrochemical biosensors are promising for a wide range of applications due to their unique specificity and high sensitivity. In this work, we present a novel enzyme bioelectrode for the sensing of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ). The molybdenum disulfide nanoflowers (MoS 2 ) is self-assembled on carboxylated carbon nanotubes (CNT) to form a three-dimensional conductive network ( 2 ), which is modified with 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide (IL EMB ), and followed by anchoring chloroperoxidase (CPO) onto the nanocomposite ( 2 /IL EMB ) through covalent binding to form a bioconjugate ( 2 /IL EMB /CPO). The IL EMB modified 2 /IL EMB has good hydrophilicity and conductivity, which not only provides a suitable microenvironment for the immobilization of CPO but also facilitates the direct electron transfer (DET) of CPO at the electrode. The 2 /IL EMB /CPO bioconjugate modified electrode has a high catalytic efficiency for H 2 O 2 . Through electroenzymatic synergistic catalysis for H 2 O 2 detection by 2 /IL EMB /CPO-GCE, a wide detection range of 0.2 μmol·L −1 to 997 μmol·L −1 and a low detection limit of 0.097 μmol・L -1 with high sensitivity of 1050 μA·mmol·L -1 ·cm -2 were achieved. Additionally, the 2 /IL EMB /CPO-GCE displayed exceptional stability, selectivity, and reproducibility. Furthermore, 2 /IL EMB /CPO-GCE is suitable for sensing of H 2 O 2 in human urine s with good recovery, suggesting its potential application for the detection of H 2 O 2 in biomedical field.

Abstract:There has been increasing interest in the use of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) for the synthesis and application of functional hybrid nanomaterials. Here, for the first time, we prepared MoS2 nanosheets that were modified with organic copper (OCu) nanowires by a facile two-step hydrothermal synthesis. Multicharacterization techniques such as scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy were used to observe the conjugation of OCu with MoS2 and the morphology of the fabricated MoS2-OCu nanohybrids. In addition, other methods such as X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction were utilized to understand the structure and properties of the prepared MoS2-OCu nanohybrids. Finally, the synthesized MoS2-OCu nanohybrids were further utilized to fabricate multi-functional electrochemical sensors for highly sensitive detection of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and ascorbic acid (AA). The obtained results indicate that the synthesized novel MoS2-OCu nanohybrids exhibit excellent electrocatalytic activity towards both analytes, and present potential applications for detecting H2O2 and AA with high stability, sensitivity, and selectivity.
A facile preparation of FePt-loaded few-layer MoS2 nanosheets nanocomposites (F-MoS2-FePt NCs) and their application for colorimetric detection of H2O2 in living cells

Abstract:BackgroundRapid and sensitive detection of H2O2 especially endogenous H2O2 is of great importance for series of industries including disease diagnosis and therapy. In this work, uniform FePt nanoparticles are successfully anchored onto Few-layer molybdenum disulfide nanosheets (F-MoS2 NSs). The powder X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, UV–Vis spectra and atomic force microscopy were employed to confirm the structure of the obtained nanocomposites (F-MoS2-FePt NCs). The prepared nanocomposites show efficient peroxidase-like catalytic activities verified by catalyzing the peroxidation substrate 4,4′-diamino-3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbiphenyl (TMB) with the existence of H2O2.ResultsThe optimal conditions of the constructed colorimetric sensing platform is proved as 35 °C and pH 4.2. Under optimal catalytic conditions, the detection limit for H2O2 detection reaches 2.24 μM and the linear ranger is 8 μM to 300 μM. Furthermore, the proposed colorimetric sensing platform was successfully utilized to detect the intracellular H2O2 of cancer cells (MCF-7).ConclusionsThese findings indicated that the F-MoS2-FePt-TMB-H2O2 system provides a potential sensing platform for hydrogen peroxide monitoring in living cells.

Abstract:Recently, much attention has been paid on the nanomaterial-based artificial enzymes due to their tunable catalytic activity, high stability and low cost compared to the natural enzymes. Different from the peroxidase mimics which have been studied for several decades, nanomaterials with oxidase-like property are burgeoning in the recent years. In this paper, hierarchical carbon nanofibers (CNFs)/MnCo2O4.5 nanofibers as efficient oxidase mimics are reported. The products are synthesized by an electrospinning technique and an electrochemcial deposition process in which the CNFs are used as the working electrode where MnCo2O4.5 nanosheets deposit on. The resulting binary metal oxide-based nanocomposites exhibit a good oxidase-like activity toward the oxidations of 3,3',5,5'tetramethylbenzi-dine (TMB), 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium (ABTS) salt and o-phenylenediamine (OPD) without exogenous addition of H2O2. The system of CNFs/MnCo2O4.5-TMB can be used as a candidate to detect sulfite and ascorbic acid via a colorimetric method with a high sensitivity. This work provides the efficient utilization and potential applications of binary metal oxide-based nanocomposites with oxidase activities in biosensors and other biotechnologies.
Solution-Phase Synthesis of Platinum Nanoparticle-Decorated Metal-Organic Framework Hybrid Nanomaterials As Biomimetic Nanoenzymes for Biosensing Applications.

Abstract:The synthesis of nanomaterials with specific properties and functions as biomimetic nanoenzymes has attracted extensive attention in the past decades due to their great potential to substitute natural enzymes. Herein, a facile and simple method for the preparation of platinum nanoparticle (PtNP)-decorated two-dimensional metal-organic framework (MOF) nanocomposites was developed. A ligand with heme-like structure, Fe(III) tetra(4-carboxyphenyl)porphine chloride (TCPP(Fe)), was applied to synthesize MOF nanosheets (denoted as Cu-TCPP(Fe) nanosheets) in high yield. Ultrathin Cu-TCPP(Fe) nanosheets with thickness less than 10 nm were used as a novel template for the growth of ultrasmall and uniform PtNPs. Significantly, the obtained hybrid nanomaterials (PtNPs/Cu-TCPP(Fe) hybrid nanosheets) exhibit enhanced peroxidase-like activity compared to PtNPs, Cu-TCPP(Fe) nanosheets, and the physical mixture of both due to the synergistic effect. On account of the excellent peroxidase-like activity of PtNPs/Cu-TCPP(Fe) hybrid nanosheets, we established a colorimetric method for sensitive and rapid detection of hydrogen peroxide. Furthermore, by combining with glucose oxidase, a cascade colorimetric method was established to further detect glucose with excellent sensitivity and selectivity.
