Abstract:Knowledge sharing is one of the important branches of knowledge management.Two research paradigms are put forward in this paper,which are known as technology-centered and human-centered paradigm.Under such framework,this paper reviews the existed research on knowledge sharing from seven perspectives,which are communication,tool,interaction,learning,power,market and social exchange.Finally,three directions of knowledge sharing research are put forward.Those are revolution from the technology-centered paradigm only,paying more attention to individual level and taking culture into account.

Abstract:With the intensified calls for knowledge management and innovation,this study extends the current literature by revealing the effect of knowledge sharing on innovation.This study starts by proposing a positive relation between knowledge sharing and innovative performance.Then,it proposes that knowledge sharing works as an important mediator between interpersonal interaction and innovation.Interpersonal communication and task conflict were selected as specific types of workplace interaction.Both communication and task conflict are hypothesized to have direct positive effects on innovation,and the relationships are mediated by knowledge sharing.A survey was conducted to collect data from 168 supervisors and their subordinates in Shanghai.In the questionnaires ,the subordinates were asked to report their level of conflict and frequency of communication within the organization.The supervisors were asked to evaluate the subordinates in terms of their knowledge sharing behavior and innovative performance.Statistical results gave empirical support to the study hypotheses.The study results shed some light on the theoretical and practical approaches to innovation.Key findings from the study include:(1) Task conflict and interpersonal communication in organizations can enhance innovation ;(2) Task conflict and interpersonal communication help employees to share knowledge with their coworkers;and(3) Knowledge sharing based on task conflict and frequent communication stimulates brainstorming and knowledge transmission,hence leading to innovation.These results provide managers in modern businesses theoretical evidence to develop innovation-friendly managerial methods as well as organizational cultures.

Abstract:Many workers in medical informatics are seeking to reuse knowledge in new applications and to share encoded knowledge across software environments. Knowledge reuse involves many dimensions, including the reapplication of lexicons, ontologies, inference syntax, tasks, and problem-solving methods. Principal obstacles to all current work in knowledge sharing involve the difficulties of achieving consensus regarding what knowledge representations mean, of enumerating the context features and background knowledge required to ascribe meaning to a particular knowledge representation, and of describing knowledge independent of specific interpreters or inference engines. Progress in the area of knowledge sharing will necessitate more practical experience with attempts to interchange knowledge as well as better tools for viewing and editing knowledge representations at appropriate levels of abstraction. The PROTEGE-II project is one attempt to provide a knowledge-base authoring environment in which developers can experiment with the reuse of knowledge-level problem-solving methods, task models, and domain ontologies.

Abstract:Behavioral structure which is formed by interaction between teammates would influence team outcome.Four dimensions including knowledge donating intensity,knowledge donating variance,knowledge collecting intensity and knowledge collecting variance can be used to study team knowledge sharing behavioral structure to open the "black box"of team knowledge sharing.The research on the characteristics and development of different sharing behavioral structure would expand knowledge management theory.Different sharing behavioral structures would have different sharing effectiveness,so team knowledge management should adopt relevant policies,such as improving team knowledge sharing gradually in terms of sharing behavioral structure development path,matching knowledge donating and knowledge collecting,constructing adaptive sharing behavioral structure according to team lifecycle and team target,managing teammate’s sharing behavior variance effectively.

Abstract:There are inherent challenges to interdisciplinary research collaboration, such as bridging cognitive gaps and balancing transaction costs with collaborative benefits. This raises the question: Does interdisciplinary research necessarily result in interdisciplinary collaborations? This study aims to explore this question and assess collaboration preferences in interdisciplinary research at the individual, dyadic, and team level by examining mixing patterns in a collaboration network. Using a network of over 2,000 researchers from the field of artificial intelligence in education, we find that "interdisciplinarity" is demonstrated by diverse research experiences of individual researchers rather than diversity among researchers within collaborations. We also examine intergroup mixing by applying a novel approach to classify the active and non-active researchers in the collaboration network based on participation in multiple teams. We find a significant difference in indicators of academic performance and experience between the clusters of active and non-active researchers, suggesting intergroup mixing as a key factor in academic success. Our results shed light on the nature of team formation in interdisciplinary research, as well as highlight the importance of interdisciplinary programs.

Abstract:Tacit knowledge is a promoter of success for an architectural engineering project. Tacit knowledge sharing and transfer between members are difficult and complex for members of an architectural engineering project come from different fields. In this paper, we attempt to explore how tacit knowledge can be utilized effectively in an architectural engineering project. A model is presented by which tacit knowledge sharing and transfer can be understood profoundly in an architectural engineering project. A rational mechanism of tacit knowledge sharing and transfer is addressed: establishing better cooperation atmosphere and environment, improving inspiriting & performance evaluation mechanism and promoting tacit knowledge sharing and transfer by information technology.

Abstract:Purpose - The purpose of this study is to examine knowledge-sharing phenomena from the perspective of recipients' characteristics. Specifically, this study examines the influence of knowledge recipients' competence, learning attitude and personal relationship with knowledge sharer on knowledge sharers' willingness to share. Design/methodology/approach - The authors conducted two studies, a scenario experimental study and a field survey study to test their hypotheses about the effects of recipients' characteristics on knowledge sharers' willingness to share. Findings - The results revealed that recipients' characteristics play different roles in different situations (responsive and proactive knowledge sharing) in triggering the knowledge sharers' motivation to share. In responsive knowledge sharing, a recipient's learning attitude and personal relationship with the knowledge sharer affected the sharer's willingness to share. In proactive knowledge sharing, a recipient's professional ability and personal relationship with the sharer significantly affected the sharer's willingness to share. Research limitations/implications - The scenario experiment may suffer from the problem of social desirability and the external validity; this study only focuses on the simple main effect of knowledge recipients' characteristics. Practical implications - First, managers should encourage employees to seek information and knowledge from other colleagues, and organizations could provide support for their interaction. Second, managers need to consider the composition of team members. Third, team managers may encourage each member to develop their own special skill or knowledge. Fourth, managers could make some efforts to develop a climate of trust among employees. Social implications - Some organization can also use practice like recognition of internal copyright or patent to protect employees' new ideas or knowledge. Originality/value - First, this study clarifies the relationship between knowledge sharing and other working behaviors. Second, this study contributes to the understanding of how episodic factors affect working behaviors, which has been given little attention in previous research.

Abstract:Knowledge is a fundamental asset for firms in the contemporary economy. Promoting knowledge sharing within organizations is an increasing v important challenge for managers. Past literature in organizational studies has focused on personal motivations to explain knowledge sharing behaviors. We see an organization as consisting of multiple networks simultaneously, e.g. informational, structural, and relational networks. We propose a model to understand the individual knowledge sharing behavior from informational, structural, and relational perspectives in an organizational context. We find that in the context of interpersonal task related knowledge sharing, perceived value of knowledge, empathy and dependence play a critical role in knowledge sharing while the impacts of competition and relationship building are insignificant.

Abstract:The advancement of science relies on the exchange of ideas across disciplines and the integration of diverse knowledge domains. However, tracking knowledge flows and interdisciplinary integration in rapidly evolving, multidisciplinary fields remains a significant challenge. This work introduces a novel network analysis framework to study the dynamics of knowledge transfer directly from citation data. By applying dynamic community detection to cumulative, time-evolving citation networks, we can identify research areas as groups of papers sharing knowledge sources and outputs. Our analysis characterises the life-cycles and knowledge transfer patterns of these dynamic communities over time. We demonstrate our approach through a case study of eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) research, an emerging interdisciplinary field at the intersection of machine learning, statistics, and psychology. Key findings include: (i) knowledge transfer between these important foundational topics and the contemporary topics in XAI research is limited, and the extent of knowledge transfer varies across different contemporary research topics; (ii) certain application domains exist as isolated "knowledge silos"; (iii) significant "knowledge gaps" are identified between related XAI research areas, suggesting opportunities for cross-pollination and improved knowledge integration. By mapping interdisciplinary integration and bridging knowledge gaps, this work can inform strategies to synthesise ideas from disparate sources and drive innovation. More broadly, our proposed framework enables new insights into the evolution of knowledge ecosystems directly from citation data, with applications spanning literature review, research planning, and science policy.

The Effect of Knowledge Sharing on Ambidextrous Innovation: Triadic Intellectual Capital as a Mediator

Abstract:There is no doubt that the primary reason that firms encourage knowledge sharing is to drive innovation. As nutrients for innovation, what role do the different elements of intellectual capital play in this relationship? When we consider the ambidexterity of enterprise innovation—exploratory and exploitative—how do the different elements of intellectual capital affect the relationship between them? This study adopts a triadic perspective to divide intellectual capital into human, structural and relational capital. We analyzed 349 questionnaires from high-tech enterprises and found that knowledge sharing had a significantly positive effect on all three elements of intellectual capital, and human capital and structural capital had a positive effect on ambidextrous innovation. Relational capital had a positive effect on exploitative innovation but no significant effect on exploratory innovation. Unexpectedly, there was no direct effect of knowledge sharing on ambidextrous innovation, and the elements of intellectual capital play full mediations among them. This may suggest that firms should pay more attention to the role of relational capital when they adopt exploitative innovation. At the same time, we remind managers that innovation may be promoted only when knowledge sharing increases intellectual capital. Therefore, the misuse of management tools should be avoided, and ineffective management practices should be reduced. In addition, we explored the relationship between knowledge sharing and the open innovation paradigm and made some suggestions for future research.

Abstract:This paper extends the investigation of deeper learning beyond learning as an individual endeavor by looking at the collaborative achievement of teams. Healthcare students were engaged in collaborative concept mapping to solve an authentic, contextually situated problem in triads. Both quantitative and qualitative investigations have been conducted to study specifically the impact of learners' conflict resolution on their deeper learning as measured by knowledge convergence (KC). Knowledge convergence refers the similarity between team members' post-collaboration knowledge representations derived through interaction. To compute learners' KC, team members' post-collaboration individual maps were compared through Pathfinder analysis. Contrary to prior research findings, increased conflict negotiation behaviors by an individual resulted in fewer similarities between his or her second map and other members' maps. Theme analysis revealed both effective interaction strategies and challenges that impacted triad team members' attainment of KC. Findings from this study can inform development of effective instructional support to cultivate the occurrence of deeper learning within the contexts of collaborative concept mapping and healthcare education.

Abstract:Collaborating with a partner in a distant area is widely endorsed in practice as a means for inspiring novel innovations. However, empirical evidence also reports significant innovation efficiency challenges when working with distant partners due to differences in technical knowledge domain differences. In this study, we conducted a multi-method approach by using a case study of 30 interviews to develop three information technology (IT)-enabled inter-firm knowledge capabilities and testing the research model with field survey data from 258 firms. The findings of this research confirm our hypotheses that IT-enabled inter-firm knowledge exploration capability and IT-enabled inter-firm knowledge exploitation capability can help embrace the benefits of product effectiveness while IT-enabled social integration capability surmount process efficiency challenges inherent in collaboration with distant partners. This study adds a much-needed perspective to the IT and innovation literature and offers practical suggestions for firm managers to mindfully design and deploy IT resources in collaborative innovation projects.

Abstract:Abstract Although value networks and virtual cross-functional teams, which serve as examples of digital collaborative organizations in the digital economy, have grown in popularity, few studies have looked at knowledge sharing in these teams. Yet lack of knowledge sharing can hurt teamwork and value creation. So, this study integrates transactional theory of stress and coping and self-determination theory into the stimulus-organism-response model to better understand the mechanisms. We conducted an empirical analysis after surveying of 386 participants from 49 digital collaboration teams in 27 service and industrial firms. The results indicate that the basic psychological needs and both coping strategies together mediate the correlation between diversity-oriented leadership and organizational knowledge sharing. Surprisingly, competence and autonomy needs satisfaction are necessary for organizational knowledge sharing, while perceived relatedness needs satisfaction is the icebreaker for organizational knowledge sharing.

Abstract:Three elements – organizational structure characteristics, organizational culture, and interunit interaction – that affect knowledge sharing are raised in this study based on the structure of organization theories and the interaction among units of an organization. By carrying out empirical research on five hi-tech industries in Taiwan and verifying hypotheses with the non-linear fuzzy neural network model, this study finds that the lower the formalization of an organizational structure is, the greater the knowledge sharing among units of an organization will be, while the higher the complexity of an organizational structure is, the lower the knowledge sharing among units of an organization will be. Trust and commitment among units are important for facilitating knowledge sharing among units, and creative and supporting characteristics of organizational culture are beneficial for the implementation of knowledge sharing activities.

Abstract:Knowledge sharing & transfer is a critical step for successful knowledge management, and constructing knowledge sharing & transfer network is an important approach to enhance the efficiency of knowledge sharing & transfer. Because of different sharing & transfer patterns of explicit knowledge and tacit knowledge, the methods to improve efficiency of knowledge sharing and transfer are different. This paper constructs knowledge sharing & transfer network in view of behaviors, analyzes mutual relations between network members and calculates the optimal knowledge transfer path. The general algorithm for shortest path-"Floyd" algorithm is used to optimize transfer path for explicit knowledge; Social network analysis (SNA) is applied to analyze and optimize transfer path for tacit knowledge.
