Abstract:This study aimed to compare transcriptomic and metabolomic responses in the livers of pigs to different dietary non-starchy polysaccharides (NSPs), including inulin (INU), raw potato starch (RPS) and pectin (PEC). Results show that PEC significantly reduced feed intake and body weight of pigs. NSPs reduced the triglyceride level and increased the bile acid level in the liver. Lipid degradation related genes were down-regulated by NSPs. Genes involved in the degradation and metabolism of amino acids were up-regulated by RPS and PEC, and resulted in lower levels of amino acids in the liver. In addition, gluconeogenesis related genes were up-regulated by RPS. Overall, all three NSPs reduced hepatic adipose deposit. In addition, RPS and PEC affected amino acid metabolism, and RPS altered glycogenesis in the liver. The findings promote us to bring insight into the roles of different types of NSPs in regulating the body metabolism.
