Abstract:A unified time- and frequency- domain equation in terms of the active reflection coefficient (ARC) in four-dimensional (4D) antenna arrays including mutual coupling effect is presented. The "instantaneous" active reflection coefficient (ARC) as a function of time and the "averaged" active reflection coefficient as a function of frequency are introduced to evaluate the port matching and the mutual coupling in 4D arrays, respectively. The two analysis approaches from different viewpoints are demonstrated to be unified and complementary through Fourier transform. The results of a 16-element 4D linear array with tightly coupled elements are used to validate the unified equation.
