Abstract:Excitation functions were measured for the formation of 181Re, 132Re, 182gRe, 183Re, 184mRe, 184gRe and 186Re in proton-induced reactions on natural tungsten in the energy range of 7.5-22.5 MeV. The excitation function for 186W(p,n)186Re reaction has been obtained with maximum cross section value of 41.6 ± 6.2 mb at the proton energy of 9.2 MeV. 186Re was produced from the reaction induced by 16 MeV protons on isotopically enriched 186W metal powder target. Following the separation from 187W, 183Ta and the bulk of target material 186W through an acid alumina column, 186Re was concentrated and purified by an anion exchange column, and finally the no-carrier-added 186Re saline solution was achieved. The radionuclidic purity of 186Re was > 99.2%. The experimental thick-target yield of 186Re was determined to be approximately 50 μCi/μAh, in good agreement with that estimated from the excitation function. © by Oldenbourg Wissenschaftsverlag, München.

Abstract:The double-differential cross sections of α-particles emitted from natNi(n, xα) reaction at neutron energy of 14.6 MeV were measured by using the multitelescope system of Univ of Science and Technology of China. The protons, alpha particles and gamma ray were identified by two-dimensional spectra. The thick target technique was used to increase the event rates and decrease the statistical errors. The spectra were measured at 16 reaction angles form 24.5° to 165°. The angle-integrated cross sections, angular distributions and α-particle emission total cross sections were obtained from the double-differential cross sections. The present results were compared with the ENDF/B-6 evaluation data and other experimental results.

Abstract:The cross sections of the ${}^{238}$U($n$,3$n$)${}^{236}$U reaction induced by neutrons with energies around 14 MeV were determined using a combination of the activation technique and accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) at the China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE). U${}_{3}$O${}_{8}$ samples were irradiated for 198 h by neutrons produced by the ${}^{3}$H($d$,$n$)${}^{4}$He reaction on a 600-kV neutron generator at CIAE. Neutron flux was continuously determined by the activation of flux monitors, Co foils, closely attached to the sample. To accurately determine the long half-life product ${}^{236}$U, an AMS procedure was established with a sensitivity of about 10${}^{\ensuremath{-}11}$ for ${}^{236}$U/${}^{238}$U. As a result, the cross sections of ${}^{238}$U($n$,3$n$)${}^{236}$U for the incident neutron energies of ($14.18\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.30$) and ($14.65\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.40$) MeV were obtained to be ($489.3\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}48.0$) and ($556.7\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}27.8$) mb, respectively.

Abstract:The reaction mechanism of pre-equilibrium proton-induced $\alpha $-particle emission from 93Nb at an incident energy of 100 MeV was investigated with polarized projectiles. A formalism based on the statistical multistep direct emission model of Feshbach, Kerman and Koonin was found to give a reasonably good reproduction of cross section and analyzing power angular distributions at various emission energies. Existing experimental distributions for the same reaction at an incident energy of 65 MeV were also analyzed with the same model. The incident-energy variation from 65 MeV up to 160 MeV was found to be consistent with the predictions of the basic model. However, whereas knockout of an $\alpha $ cluster is the dominant reaction mechanism in the final stage at the lowest- and highest incident energies, at 100 MeV a pickup process competes with comparable intensity in yield.

Abstract:The neutron energy spectra emitted in the reactions of 33.4MeV/u 17N on 9Be and 197Au targets have been measured at different angles with the time of flight method. The angular distributions were composed of two components: one focused into a narrow angle range around the beam direction and another extended over a large angle region. Integrating the angular distribution， the obtained total cross sections of neutron emission were （15.2±1.7）×10-28m2 and （120±20）×10-28m2 barns respectively for 9Be and 197Au targets.

Abstract:By directly exchanging the virtual photons, energetic electrons can transmit energy to the target nuclei and induce the emission of neutrons, which is termed (e,n) neutrons. As a one-step reaction, in which the real bremsstrahlung photons are not needed to be involved, the (e,n) reaction can generate neutrons when high energy electrons penetrates a thin foil, resulting in a small point neutron source with ultra-short pulse-width, which would be useful for the fast neutron resonant analysis. In our previous research, the (e,n) cross section of 100 MeV electrons with 181Ta has been measured. In this research, the detailed information in the electro-disintegration are analyzed, and the cross sections of (e,xn) reactions, in which x is the number of emitted neutrons are measured. The results show that (e,xn) reactions will be even more important than the (γ,xn) reactions with an enlarged x, indicating that the (e,xn) reactions can be used to generate proton-rich nuclides, being beneficial to the proton-drip line research. Both the experimental results and the preliminary interpretation will be presented.

Abstract:The charged particles and residues were correlatively measured by telescopes and PPACs in the reaction of Ar-40 + Nb-93 at incident energy of 25 MeV/u. Energy spectra of a particles were fitted by three moving sources and the excitation energy of hot nuclei were determined by the TOF of residues and particle multiplicity. Abstracted temperature was correlated thoroughly and the results show that hot nuclei with excitation energy E*/A approximate to 4.3MeV and temperature T-init approximate to 6.9MeV were formed in the reaction. The behavior of nuclear matter in various systems was compared and the difference can be seen in the light and heavy reaction system.

Abstract:A stack of thin Nb foils was irradiated with the 100 MeV proton beam at Los Alamos National Laboratory's Isotope Production Facility, to investigate the $^{93}$Nb(p,4n)$^{90}$Mo nuclear reaction as a monitor for intermediate energy proton experiments and to benchmark state-of-the-art reaction model codes. A set of 38 measured cross sections for $^{\text{nat}}$Nb(p,x) and $^{\text{nat}}$Cu(p,x) reactions between 40-90 MeV, as well as 5 independent measurements of isomer branching ratios, are reported. These are useful in medical and basic science radionuclide productions at intermediate energies. The $^{\text{nat}}$Cu(p,x)$^{56}$Co, $^{\text{nat}}$Cu(p,x)$^{62}$Zn, and $^{\text{nat}}$Cu(p,x)$^{65}$Zn reactions were used to determine proton fluence, and all activities were quantified using HPGe spectrometry. Variance minimization techniques were employed to reduce systematic uncertainties in proton energy and fluence, improving the reliability of these measurements. The measured cross sections are shown to be in excellent agreement with literature values, and have been measured with improved precision compared with previous measurements. This work also reports the first measurement of the $^{\text{nat}}$Nb(p,x)$^{82\text{m}}$Rb reaction, and of the independent cross sections for $^{\text{nat}}$Cu(p,x)$^{52\text{g}}$Mn and $^{\text{nat}}$Nb(p,x)$^{85\text{g}}$Y in the 40-90 MeV region. The effects of $^{\text{nat}}$Si(p,x)$^{22,24}$Na contamination, arising from silicone adhesive in the Kapton tape used to encapsulate the aluminum monitor foils, is also discussed as a cautionary note to future stacked-target cross section measurements. \emph{A priori} predictions of the reaction modeling codes CoH, EMPIRE, and TALYS are compared with experimentally measured values and used to explore the differences between codes for the $^{\text{nat}}$Nb(p,x) and $^{\text{nat}}$Cu(p,x) reactions.

Abstract:The bremsstrahlung flux-averaged cross sections for the photoneutron reactions $^{\text{93}}$Nb($\gamma $,xn;x=1-5)$^{\text{(93-x)m,g}}$Nb were measured in the range of boundary energies of bremsstrahlung $\gamma $-quanta $E_{\gamma \text{max}}$=33-93 MeV with a step $\Delta E_{\gamma \text{max}}\approx $ 2 MeV. The isomeric ratios of the average cross-sections of the products of the reactions $^{\text{93}}$Nb ($\gamma $ ,4n)$^{\text{89m,g}}$Nb and $^{\text{93}}$Nb($\gamma $,5n)$^{\text{88m,g}}$ Nb were determined in the energy ranges $E_{\gamma \text{max}}$ = 50-93 and 70-93 MeV, respectively. The experiments were carried out on the beam of the linear electron accelerator LU-40 of the Science and Research Establishment (SRE) "Accelerator" at National Science Center Kharkov Institute of Physics and Technology (NSC KIPT) using the method of induced activity. Calculations of the cross sections, average cross sections, and isomeric ratios of the reaction products were performed using the TALYS 1.9 code with default parameters and the GEANT4 code. The tendency of a more successful description of the average cross sections of photoneutron reactions with the formation of final odd-even Nb nuclei than odd-odd Nb nuclei is revealed. The experimental average cross sections for the reactions ($\gamma $,2n) and ($\gamma $,4n) are in good agreement with theory, while in the case of reactions ($\gamma $,n), ($\gamma $,3n), and ($ \gamma $,5n), some discrepancies are observed. The results obtained for the reactions ($\gamma $,n), ($\gamma $,3n) and ($\gamma $,4n) are in satisfactory agreement with the known literature data. The average cross sections for the reactions ($\gamma $,2n) and ($\gamma $,5n) and the isomeric ratios of the reaction products $^{\text{93}}$Nb($\gamma $,5n)$^{\text{88m,g}}$Nb were measured for the first time.
