Abstract:We prove that the total curvature of a planar graph with nonnegative combinatorial curvature is at least 1/12 if it is positive. Moreover, we classify the metric structures of ambient polygonal surfaces for planar graphs attaining this bound.

Abstract:In this paper we study the existence of closed convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space Rn+1 such that a Weingarten curvature, regarded as a function of their unit normal, is equal to a given positive function on the unit sphere Sn. Two classical problems of this type, namely the Christoffel problem [6] and the Minkowski problem [16], which address respectively the cases of harmonic and Gauss curvature, were completely solved in the 1970’s [7,9,17]. Abstract:In this paper, we give the sharp upper bound for the number of vertices with positive curvature in a planar graph with nonnegative combinatorial curvature. Based on this, we show that the automorphism group of a planar—possibly infinite—graph with nonnegative combinatorial curvature and positive total curvature is a finite group, and give an upper bound estimate for the order of the group.

Abstract:Let M be an n-dimensional closed hypersurface with constant mean curvature and constant scalar curvature in a unit sphere. Denote by H and S the mean curvature and the squared length of the second fundamental form. We prove that if a(n, H) <= S <= alpha( n, H)+ CnH2, where n >= 4 and H not equal 0, then S = alpha( n, H) and M is a Clifford torus Sn-1(r(1)) x S-1(r(2)). Here alpha(n, H) = n + n(3)/2(n -1) H-2 - n(n - 2)/2(n - 1) root n(2)H(4) + 4(n - 1) H-2, and C-n is a positive constant explicitly depending on n. The emphasis is that our gap theorem imposes no restriction on the range of mean curvature. Moreover, we obtain gap theorems for complete hypersurfaces with constant mean curvature and constant scalar curvature in space forms.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the geometry of the moduli space of curves by using the curvature properties of direct image sheaves of vector bundles. We show that the moduli space $(M_g, \omega_{WP})$ of curves with genus $g>1$ has dual-Nakano negative and semi-Nakano-negative curvature, and in particular, it has non-positive Riemannain curvature operator and also non-positive complex sectional curvature. As applications, we prove that any submanifold in $M_g$ which is totally geodesic in $A_g$ with finite volume must be a ball quotient. We also show that, on a Kodaira (deformation) surface, there is no K\"ahler metric with non-positive Riemannain sectional curvature although it possesses K\"ahler metrics with strictly negative holomorphic bisectional curvature.

Abstract:In this article we first show that any finite cover of the moduli space of closed Riemann surfaces of genus $g$ with $g\geq 2$ does not admit any Riemannian metric $ds^2$ of nonnegative scalar curvature such that $ds^2 \succ ds_{T}^2$ where $ds_{T}^2$ is the Teichm\"uller metric. Our second result is the proof that any cover $M$ of the moduli space $\mathbb{M}_{g}$ of a closed Riemann surface $S_{g}$ does not admit any complete Riemannian metric of uniformly positive scalar curvature in the quasi-isometry class of the Teichm\"uller metric, which implies a conjecture of Farb-Weinberger.

Abstract:Woess [30] introduced a curvature notion on the set of edges of a planar graph, called Ψ-curvature in our paper, which is stable under the planar duality. We study geometric and combinatorial properties for the class of infinite planar graphs with non-negative Ψ-curvature. By using the discharging method, we prove that for such an infinite graph the number of vertices (resp. faces) of degree k, except k=3,4 or 6, is finite. As a main result, we prove that for an infinite planar graph with non-negative Ψ-curvature the sum of the number of vertices of degree at least 8 and the number of faces of degree at least 8 is at most one.

Abstract:In the present paper, we apply Alexandrov geometry methods to study geometric analysis aspects of infinite semiplanar graphs with nonnegative combinatorial curvature in the sense of Higuchi. We obtain the metric classification of these graphs and construct the graphs embedded in the projective plane minus one point. Moreover, we show the volume doubling property and the Poincar\'e inequality on such graphs. The quadratic volume growth of these graphs implies the parabolicity. In addition, we prove the polynomial growth harmonic function theorem analogous to the case of Riemannian manifolds.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a generalization of Fenchel's theorem for closed curves as frontals in Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^n$. We prove that, for a non-co-orientable closed frontal in $\mathbb{R}^n$, its total absolute curvature is greater than or equal to $\pi$. It is equal to $\pi$ if and only if the curve is a planar locally $L$-convex closed frontal whose rotation index is $1/2$ or $-1/2$. Furthermore, if the equality holds and if every singular point is a cusp, then the number $N$ of cusps is an odd integer greater than or equal to $3$, and $N=3$ holds if and only if the curve is simple.

Abstract:We prove a homology vanishing theorem for graphs with positive Bakry-' Emery curvature, analogous to a classic result of Bochner on manifolds [3]. Specifically, we prove that if a graph has positive curvature at every vertex, then its first homology group is trivial, where the notion of homology that we use for graphs is the path homology developed by Grigor'yan, Lin, Muranov, and Yau [11]. We moreover prove that the fundamental group is finite for graphs with positive Bakry-' Emery curvature, analogous to a classic result of Myers on manifolds [22]. The proofs draw on several separate areas of graph theory, including graph coverings, gain graphs, and cycle spaces, in addition to the Bakry-Emery curvature, path homology, and graph homotopy. The main results follow as a consequence of several different relationships developed among these different areas. Specifically, we show that a graph with positive curvature cannot have a non-trivial infinite cover preserving 3-cycles and 4-cycles, and give a combinatorial interpretation of the first path homology in terms of the cycle space of a graph. Furthermore, we relate gain graphs to graph homotopy and the fundamental group developed by Grigor'yan, Lin, Muranov, and Yau [12], and obtain an alternative proof of their result that the abelianization of the fundamental group of a graph is isomorphic to the first path homology over the integers.

For such a graph, via introducing the discrete Gromov-Hausdorff convergence we prove that the space of bounded harmonic functions is finite dimensional, and as a corollary the number of non-parabolic ends is finite.
Hyperbolic Circle Packings and Total Geodesic Curvatures on Surfaces with Boundary

Abstract:This paper investigates a generalized hyperbolic circle packing (including circles, horocycles or hypercycles) with respect to the total geodesic curvatures on the surface with boundary. We mainly focus on the existence and rigidity of circle packing whose contact graph is the $1$-skeleton of a finite polygonal cellular decomposition, which is analogous to the construction of Bobenko and Springborn [4]. Motivated by Colin de Verdière's method [6], we introduce the variational principle for generalized hyperbolic circle packings on polygons. By analyzing limit behaviours of generalized circle packings on polygons, we give an existence and rigidity for the generalized hyperbolic circle packing with conical singularities regarding the total geodesic curvature on each vertex of the contact graph. As a consequence, we introduce the combinatoral Ricci flow to find a desired circle packing with a prescribed total geodesic curvature on each vertex of the contact graph.

Abstract:Abstract This paper gives a partial confirmation of a conjecture ofAgarwal, Har-Peled, Sharir, and Varadarajan that the totalcurvature of ashortest path on the boundary of a convex polyhedron in R3cannot bearbitrarily large. It is shown here that the conjecture holds for a class ofpolytopesfor which the ratio of the radii of the circumscribed and inscribed ball isbounded. Onthe other hand, an example is constructed to show that the total curvatureof ashortest path on the boundary of a convex polyhedron in R3 canexceed 2π. Another example shows that the spiralling number of ashortest path on the boundary of a convex polyhedron can be arbitrarilylarge.

Abstract:We show that if a planar graph $G$ with minimum degree at least $3$ has positive Lin-Lu-Yau Ricci curvature on every edge, then $\Delta(G)\leq 17$, which then implies that $G$ is finite. This is an analogue of a result of DeVos and Mohar [{\em Trans. Amer. Math. Soc., 2007}] on the size of planar graphs with positive combinatorial curvature.
