Abstract:High aluminum TRIP steel has a strong potential to be applied in lightweight industries because of its high strength and low density. However, high-Al TRIP steel prepared by conventional casting (CC) usually contains large δ-ferrite and macro-segregation which will badly deteriorate the mechanical properties of the material. Spray forming (SF) method for producing the high-Al TRIP steel is presented in this research to overcome these issues. The experiments demonstrated that, compared with that produced by CC, the steel produced by SF is composed of much finer equiaxed ferrite grains and the segregation of Mn and Al is greatly reduced. After cold rolling, the fine and elongated δ-ferrite arrays evenly and forms an ordered band structure. The mechanical properties tests revealed that the ductility of spray formed steel is significantly increased by more than 15%, and the product of strength and elongation is over 35GPa%. A crystal plasticity model was established to simulate the deformation behavior of spray formed steel. The results show that the distribution of stress and strain are more uniform in spray formed steel. The improved δ-ferrite structure alleviates the local stress concentration at adjacent of phases and leads to the homogeneity of austenite transformation. This contributes significantly to the enhancement of the mechanical stability of retained austenite as well as the improvement of ductility.
