Abstract:A new class of white luminescent materials, white-light-emitting graphene quantum dots (WGQDs), have attracted increasing attention because of their unique features and potential applications. Herein, we designed and synthesized a novel WGQDs via a solvothermal molecular fusion strategy. The modulation of chlorine doping amount and reaction temperature gives the WGQDs a single-crystalline structure and bright white fluorescence properties. In particular, the WGQDs also exhibit novel and robust white phosphorescence performance for the first time. An optimum fluorescence quantum yield of WGQDs is 34%, which exceeds the majority of reported WGQDs and other white luminescent materials. The WGQDs display broad-spectrum absorption within almost the entire visible light region, broad full width at half maximum and extend their phosphorescence emission to the entire white long-wavelength region. This unique dual-mode optical characteristic of the WGQDs originates from the synergistic effect of low-defect and high chlorine-doping in WGQDs and enlarges their applications in white light emission devices, cell nuclei imaging, and information encryption. Our finding provides us an opportunity to design and construct more advanced multifunctional white luminescent materials based on metal-free carbon nanomaterials.

Abstract:A gold(I) complex is reported. Interestingly, crystals of the gold(I) complex exhibit an excellent excitation wavelength-dependent emission effect at room temperature. Notably, a nearly pure white emission with Commission Internationale de L’Eclairage (CIE) 1931 chromaticity coordinates of (0.32, 0.33) is obtained upon excitation with 406nm light.

Abstract:White light phosphors have many potential applications such as solid‐state lighting, full color displays, light source for plant growth, and crop improvement. However, most of these phosphors are rare‐earth‐based materials which are costly and would be facing the challenge of resource issue due to the extremely low abundance of these elements on earth. A new white color composite consisted of a graphitic‐phase nitrogen carbon (g‐C3N4) treated with nitric acid and copper‐cysteamine Cu3Cl(SR)2 is reported herein. Under a single wavelength excitation at 365 nm, these two materials show a strong blue and red luminescence, respectively. It is interesting to find that the white light emission with a quantum yield of 20% can be obtained by mixing these two self‐activated luminescent materials at the weight ratio of 1:1.67. Using a 365 nm near‐ultraviolet chip for excitation, the composite produces a white light‐emitting diode that exhibits an excellent color rendering index of 94.3. These white‐emitting materials are environment friendly, easy to synthesize, and cost‐effective. More importantly, this will potentially eliminate the challenge of rare earth resources. Furthermore, a single chip is used for excitation instead of a multichip, which can greatly reduce the cost of the devices.

Abstract:Lead-free double perovskite phosphors are promising alternatives to lead halide perovskites for wide uses in optoelectronic applications, but suffer from a low quantum efficiency. Here, we propose to enhance the quantum efficiency of orange-emitting Cs2Ag0.4Na0.6InCl6:Bi via a codoping strategy. The internal quantum efficiency of Cs2Ag0.4Na0.6InCl6:1% Bi phosphor was increased from 89.9% to the record 98.4 and 98.6% by codoping with 1% Ni and 1% Ce, respectively. High-level density functional theory calculations have revealed that the enhanced efficiency is ascribed to the formation of shallow trap states by codoping with Ce, while codoping with Mn can create delocalized deep traps that decrease the quantum efficiency. By applying the (Bi, Ce)-codoped sample together with a blue BaMgAl10O17:Eu2+ phosphor, a white light-emitting diode with an excellent color rendering index of 95.7 and a correlated color temperature of 4430 K has been demonstrated. The developed Cs2Ag0.4Na0.6InCl6:Bi,Ce phosphor shows a great potential as down-conversion luminescent material in solid-state lighting for general illumination.
Efficient white light‐emitting diodes based on Cu(I) activated single‐phase halide single crystals

Abstract:Single‐phase white light emitters have become a potential substitute for tricolor phosphor mixtures for the white light‐emitting diodes application to simplify device structure and eliminate self‐absorption. Newly developed Low‐dimensional halides, noted for their highly efficient luminescent characteristics, have seen increasing interest in recent years. In this work, we demonstrate highly efficient white‐light emission in single‐phase zero‐dimensional halide single crystal, namely monovalent Cu doped Cs2HfCl6. Cs2HfCl6:Cu single crystals have three luminescent centers. Two emission peaks at 365 nm and 380 nm correspond to the intrinsic self‐trapped excitons emission and a defect‐related trapped exciton emission, respectively. Cu doping introduces an intense Cu‐bound exciton emission peaking at 540 nm with a large Stokes shift of 250 nm and a high photoluminescence quantum yield of 68%. With different excitation wavelengths and Cu‐doping concentrations, Cs2HfCl6:Cu single crystals show tunable emissions. Under 254 nm ultraviolet light excitation, Cs2HfCl6:0.5%Cu yields cold white light with a high color rendering index (Ra = 87.3). These findings demonstrate the potential of Cs2HfCl6:Cu as a promising phosphor for cold white light‐emitting diodes. Abstract:Luminescent gold(III) compounds with a wide emission spectral range from blue to red are disclosed with the TADF and TDSP properties of these emitters investigated. Highly luminescent gold(III) emitters with a decay rate constant of up to 106 s−1 and EQEs for OLED of up to 15.2% are achieved. A series of phosphine oxide‐containing gold(III) complexes with tunable emission colors spanning from sky‐blue to near‐infrared region is reported. This is accomplished by the switching of the excited state characters from intraligand to ligand‐to‐ligand charge transfer through the replacement of the auxiliary ligand from aryl to nitrogen‐based ligands. In addition to high photoluminescence quantum yields in both solution and solid‐state thin films, these complexes exhibit large radiative decay rate constants of the order of 106 s−1, much larger than those commonly found for other gold(III) complexes. The origin of such enhanced performance is believed to be arising from the occurrence of both thermally activated delayed fluorescence and thermally stimulated delayed phosphorescence processes within the emitters. This is probed by ns‐ and fs‐transient absorption spectroscopy, time‐resolved, and temperature‐dependent emission spectroscopy. In particular, the direct observation of the upconversion processes and the determination of the activation barriers are achieved in the variable‐temperature fs‐transient absorption spectroscopic studies. Solution‐processed organic light‐emitting devices with satisfactory external quantum efficiencies of up to 15.2% are achieved, which could be ascribed to the presence of thermally activated delayed fluorescence and/or thermally stimulated delayed phosphorescence processes.

Abstract:Although multiple emissive materials are of great research interest due to their great potential in a variety of applications, it is still challenging to prepare highly luminescent color‐tunable phosphors. Herein, the authors report a series of Pb−Sn alloyed single crystals, (C10NH22)2Pb1−xSnxBr4 (x = 0 to 1), that are equipped with two independent self‐trapped excitons (STEs) emitters. Multicolor luminescent output from blue to red and white light can be obtained by tailoring the composition, excitation wavelength, temperature, or time gating. More importantly, the synergistic effect between PbBr42− and SnBr42− enables (C10NH22)2Pb1−xSnxBr4 to have an extremely high luminescent efficiency up to near unity and remarkably extends stability in ambient air, significantly outperforming the monometallic (C10NH22)2PbBr4 and (C10NH22)2SnBr4. As an encouraging result of the richly endowed emission property and robust stability, (C10NH22)2Pb1−xSnxBr4 is further employed in multifunctional applications including the luminescent radiometric thermometer, white light emitter, and high‐security anti‐counterfeit materials. A series of dual‐emission Pb−Sn alloyed single crystals have been prepared with widely‐tunable luminescent color, extremely high luminescent efficiency up to near unity, and remarkably extended air stability, which have been demonstrated with great potential for applications in white light emitting, anti‐counterfeiting, and luminescent ratiometric thermometer.

Abstract:A total of 35 [Au(NHC)(2)][MX2] (NHC=N-heterocyclic carbene; M=Au or Cu; X=halide, cyanide or arylacetylide) complex salts were synthesized by co-precipitation of [Au(NHC)(2)](+) cations and [MX2](-) anions. These salts contain crystallographically determined polymeric Au...Au or Au...Cu interactions and are highly phosphorescent with quantum yields up to unity and emission color tunable in the entire visible regions. The nature of the emissive excited states is generally assigned to ligand (anion)-to-ligand (cation) charge-transfer transitions assisted by d(10)d(10) metallophilicity. The emission properties can be further tuned by controlled triple-component co-crystallization or by epitaxial growth. Correct recipes for white light-emitting phosphors with quantum yields higher than 70% have been achieved by screening the combinatorial pool.
Rare-earth single atom based luminescent composite nanomaterials: Tunable full-color single phosphor and applications in WLEDs

Abstract:High-quality single-component white phosphors are instrumental in realizing high-efficiency devices. Rare earth fluorides and carbon quantum dots have great potential in the white light-emitting diode (WLED) field due to their unique advantages. Here, Rare-earth single atom based NaGdF4:Tb3+/Eu3+@C:N/Eu3+ single phosphor with tunable full-color luminescence was reported. The results of density functional theory (DFT) calculation and experimental characterization show that C atoms cannot be replaced by Eu3+, but C atoms are more favorable for anchoring Eu3+ single atoms. The DFT was employed to optimize the structures of the C:N/Eu3+ and NaGdF4:Tb3+/Eu3+, and calculate the work function, optical properties, and charge density difference. The obtained tunable full-color single phosphor can emit stable light from blue to red or even white. The constructed WLED devices also have stable and excellent color performance, that is, a color rendering index of up to 95 and a lower color temperature, and it has broad application possibilities in WLEDs.

Abstract:Broadband white‐light emissions from low‐dimensional organic metal halides have received great attention for applications in energy‐efficient lighting and displays. However, the simultaneous realization of excellent color rendering indexes (CRIs) and high photoluminescence quantum efficiencies (PLQEs) in single‐component white‐light emitters remains a great challenge. Here, a unique 0D organic copper iodide (TPA)CuI2 (TPA = tetrapropylammonium) is developed, in which the edge‐sharing double trigonal planar [Cu2I4]2− dimers are surrounded by the organic cations TPA+, forming core/shell structures at the molecular level. These organic copper iodide single crystals exhibit a dual‐band white‐light emission covering the entire visible spectrum with a high PLQE of 84.4% and an excellent CRI of 91.3. In addition, (TPA)CuI2 nanocrystals are successfully synthesized and exhibit optical properties similar to those of the single‐crystal counterparts. Detailed photophysical studies reveal that the dual‐band emission originates from two self‐trapped emitting states in [Cu2I4]2− dimers, whose populations are strongly dependent on the temperature. The promising applications of (TPA)CuI2 as efficient and high CRI phosphors are demonstrated by a white‐light light‐emitting diode with a Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage coordinate of (0.31, 0.33). High photoluminescence quantum efficiency (PLQE) and color rendering index (CRI) are two essential requirements for phosphors to achieve efficient lighting. However, the simultaneous realization of high PLQE and CRI in single‐component white‐light emitters remains great challenge. Here, a single‐component white‐light emitter based on organic copper iodide is developed, which exhibits dual‐band emission with high PLQE of 84.4% and CRI of 91.3.

Abstract:Three novel gold(I) complexes based on triphenylamine, carbazole or tetraphenylethylene moiety have been successfully designed and synthesized. Meanwhile, their structures were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Their solid-state luminescence characteristics were surveyed by photoluminescence spectroscopy, and their distinct mechanical stimulus-responsive behaviors in the solid state were also investigated by photoluminescence spectroscopy. Interestingly, the solid-state phosphorescence and emission lifetimes of these mononuclear gold(I) complexes 1–3 could be tuned by introducing different fluorophores involving triphenylamine, carbazole or tetraphenylethylene. Furthermore, luminogen 1 exhibited switchable mechanochromic luminescence behavior with color change from yellow to colorless, and the solid-state luminescence on-off mechanochromism between yellow-green and colorless of luminogen 2 could also be observed. However, no mechanochromism phenomenon was observed for tetraphenylethene-containing luminogen 3. The powder X-ray diffraction results suggested that the unusual high-contrast mechanochromism characteristics of luminogens 1 and 2 could be attributed to a crystalline-to- amorphous morphology transition.
Manipulating cationic ordering toward highly efficient and zero-thermal-quenching cyan photoluminescence

Abstract:Developing effective design principle in crystalline materials for superior optical properties remains a critical challenge. Herein, we establish the cationic ordering strategy to build rigid framework and significantly improve phosphor performance. As a proof of concept, the NaHf 2-x Y x (PO 4 ) 3 :Eu 2+ (x = 0.05–0.2) phosphor series is constructed, which possesses absolutely cationic ordered structure and the linked outstanding photoluminescent properties. Structurally, heterovalent substitution in the lattice maintains the single-site occupancy of Na + ions in NaHf 2-x Y x (PO 4 ) 3 :Eu 2+ , as confirmed by Rietveld refinements and NMR spectroscopy. This cationic arrangement keeps the cation/vacancy ordered distribution that ensures high structural rigidity, with Debye temperature, as the indicator of rigidity, extracted from low temperature heat capacities exceeding 379 K. The resultant high structural rigidity, coupled with intrinsic defects, induces zero-thermal-quenching luminescence up to 150 °C. Moreover, the substitution of Y 3+ at Hf 4+ site facilitates effective Eu 3+ to Eu 2+ reduction, making them excellent cyan emitters with quantum efficiency exceeding 90 % and intense violet absorption. This work provides an impetus for the discovery of the currently state-of-the-art cyan phosphors for practical applications and gives insight into the structural factors influencing luminescent properties.

Abstract:Gold( iii ) complexes are attractive candidates as phosphorescent dopants in organic light-emitting devices for high-luminance full-colour displays. However, no data on the stability of such devices have been reported to date. Through rational molecular design and synthesis, we have successfully generated a new class of cyclometalated gold( iii ) C^C^N complexes with tunable emission colours spanning from sky-blue to red. These complexes exhibit high photoluminescence quantum yields of up to 80% in solid-state thin films, excellent solubility and high thermal stability. Solution-processable and vacuum-deposited organic light-emitting devices based on these complexes operate with external quantum efficiencies of up to 11.9% and 21.6%, respectively, and operational half-lifetimes of up to 83,000 h at 100 cd m −2 .

Abstract:Ca9Gd(PO4)(7) and Ca9Gd(PO4)(7):xEu(2+), yMn(2+) were synthesized by solid-state reaction. The refinement confirmed that Ca9Gd(PO4)(7) belongs to space group R3c (No. 161) with unit cell parameters a = 10.4526 angstrom, c 37.3769 angstrom, V 3536.61 angstrom(3), and Z = 6. Upon the excitation from 250 to 430 nm, the Ca9Gd(PO4)(7):xEu(2+), yMn(2+) phosphors exhibit a broad blue-green emission band at 490 nm and a red emission band at 645 nm, which originate from the Eu2+ and Mn2+ ions, respectively. The varied emitted color from blue-green through white and eventually to red can be achieved by properly tuning the relative ratio of the Eu2+ to Mn2+ ions in the phosphors through the energy transfer from the Eu2+ and Mn2+ ions. The energy transfer from Eu2+ to Mn2+ was demonstrated to be a resonant type via a dipole-quadrupole reaction by the luminescence spectra, energy transfer efficiency, and decay curves of the phosphors. Furthermore, the critical distance of the Eu2+ and Mn2+ ions has also been calculated. More importantly, compared to the multiple emitting components of white LEDs system, single-emitting-component phosphors would enable easy fabrication with perfect stability and color reproducibility.

Abstract:We report a highly emissive carbazole-based mononuclear gold(I) complex. Its solid shows a long roomtemperature phosphorescence lifetime up to 29.91 ms. Furthermore, the luminogen exhibits selfreversible mechanochromic behavior.

Abstract:This work applies an in-situ growth method to synthesize the ZIF-8 composites encapsulating yellow and blue dyes, namely RhB and C120, respectively. These two dyes are successfully introduced into ZIF-8 crystals, proved via the nitrogen adsorption, FTIR and powder XRD measurements. Then, these two types of dye@ZIF-8s are mixed, to achieve a white light-emission with CIE coordinates of (0.345, 0.294) under the excitation light at 365 nm. The encapsulation of dyes in isolated pores of ZIF-8 effectively mitigates the aggregation-induced quenching and the energy re-absorption between dyes. Also, the photo stability of this white-light material is investigated for practical application.
