Abstract:To meet the increasing demand for high-quality fruit, fruit production manufacturers have developed various sorting equipment based on visible/near-infrared (Vis/NIR) spectroscopy technology. However, constructing an individual experimental setup for each size and type of fruit to acquire their spectral characteristics under different detection modes is a time-consuming and labor-intensive process. In this study, we developed a multi-functional experimental system for online internal quality detection of fruit, aiming to guide the design and manufacture of fruit sorting equipment. The system consists of three modules: a multi-mode spectral collection module, an adaptive fruit support conveyor module, and a multi-level reference spectrum acquisition module. These modules enable the detection of fruit internal quality for various sizes and types under different detection modes. Additionally, several experiments were conducted to evaluate the stability of this system. The results showed that the system was stable during the repeated acquisition process, and the intensity of the reference spectrum could be flexibly adjusted. After that, we collected the Vis/NIR transmission spectra of a batch of ‘Chunjian’ mandarin samples and built the quantitative determination models to evaluate the actual detection accuracy of the experimental system we designed. The assessment indices including the correlation coefficient of the calibration set ( r c ), root mean square error of the calibration set ( RMSEC ), the correlation coefficient of the prediction set ( r p ), and root mean square error of the prediction set ( RMSEP ) are 0.8924, 0.516%, 0.8841, and 0.482% for the SSC prediction, respectively. The r c , RMSEC , r p , and RMSEP are 0.8803, 0.0358%, 0.8825, and 0.0219% for the acidity content prediction, respectively. These results showed that the developed system could satisfy the experimental requirements for internal quality detection of fruit in the laboratory, demonstrating its effectiveness and potential in guiding the design and manufacture of fruit online sorting equipment.
