Abstract:Using 2002 urban household surveys(UHS) data,we find male employees are paid approximately 31% more than their female counterparts. In this paper,we use the wage decomposition proposed by Brown which takes into account occupational differences. We find the unexplained component accounts for approximately 72% of the overall gender wage differential and most of which within intra-occupational,people always relates this unexplained potion to discrimination,on the other hand,28% is due to effects of difference in individual characteistics. This indicates in order to effectively reduce the gender wage difference,we should not only take action to imprave women's human capital stock, but also adopt a series of policies to eliminate the discrimination on the market, secure the employment status of women.
