Abstract:Selective oxidation of hydrocarbons using molecular oxygen as sole oxidant under mild conditions remains a challenging task. In this context, metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) have been widely used in various oxidation reactions due to their porosity, high surface area and designability. However, the slow diffusion of substrates/products in micropores of three‐dimensional (3D) bulk MOFs hinders the efficient catalytic performance of such materials. Herein an ultrathin two‐dimensional (2D) porphyrin‐based Zr‐MOF nanosheet (Zr‐TCPP) is synthesized through modulator‐control strategy. Subsequently, various metal ions are anchored into the porphyrin ring by post synthesis modification to afford a series of 2D Zr‐TCPP(M) (M=Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn). Various structural characterization techniques indicate Zr‐TCPP(M) is nanoflower structure with ultrathin nanoplate petals which provides fully exposed accessible active sites. Among them, Zr‐TCPP(Fe) shows excellent catalytic performance in styrene epoxidation reactions and benzylic C‐H oxidation reactions using O2 as sole oxidant under ambient temperature and pressure. The remarkable activity arises from high density of exposed porphyrin‐Fe active sites, low diffusion barriers for substrates and products, as well as a similar homogeneous reaction space. Furthermore, Zr‐TCPP(Fe) nanosheet is easily recycled by centrifugation and reused at least five times without significant loss of catalytic activity.

Abstract:A facile in situ synthetic method is developed to synthesize metal sulfide nanoparticles based on 2D M-TCPP (M = Cu, Cd, or Co, TCPP = tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin)) metal-organic framework nanosheets. The obtained CuS/Cu-TCPP composite nanosheet is used as the active material in photoelectrochemical cells, showing notably increased photocurrent due to the improved exciton separation and charge carrier transport.

Abstract:The selective oxidation of styrene with highly efficient, environmentally benign, and cost-effective catalysts are of great importance for sustainable chemical processes. Here, we develop an in situ self-assembly strategy to decorate Cu-based metal-organic framework (MOF) Cu-BDC-NH2 nanocrystals on Cu2O octahedra to construct a series of Cu2O@Cu-BDC-NH2 catalysts for selective oxidation of styrene. Using H2O2 as green oxidants, the optimized sample of Cu2O@Cu-BDC-NH2-8h could achieve 85% styrene conversion with 76% selectivity of benzaldehyde under a mild condition of 40 °C. The high performance of the as-prepared heterogeneous catalysts was attributed to the well-designed Cu+/Cu2+ interface between Cu2O and Cu-BDC-NH2 as well as the porous MOF shells composed of the uniformly dispersed Cu-BDC-NH2 nanocrystals. The alkaline properties of Cu2O and the –NH2 modification of MOFs enable the reaction to be carried out in a base-free condition, which simplifies the separation process and makes the catalytic system more environmentally friendly. Besides the Cu2O octahedra (od-Cu2O), the Cu2O cuboctahedrons (cod-Cu2O) were synthesized by adjusting the added polyvinyl pyrrolidone, and the obtained cod-Cu2O@Cu-BDC-NH2 composite also showed good catalytic performance. This work provides a useful strategy for developing highly efficient and environmentally benign heterogeneous catalysts for the selective oxidation of styrene.

Abstract:The efficiency of photocatalyst depends largely on the accessibility of reaction species to the active centre, the electron transfer and geometric matching between the active surface of catalyst and reaction species. In this work, we successfully synthesized and designed one two-dimensional Mn(II) MOF with [Mn2(H2L1)(H2O)2(DMF)2]n·(CH3CH2OH)n (HSTC 3) by using MnCl2·4H2O and 5,5'-(anthracene-9,10-diyl)diisophthalic acid (H4L1), which adjacent layers are stacked with weak interaction, and the huge gap leads to the interpenetration between layers to form a 2D + 2D → 3D interpenetration frame. Based on the particularity of the structure of HSTC 3, ultrasonic wall breaking methods was tried to successfully peel HSTC 3 into nanosheet (HSTC 3-NS), thus achieving a significant improvement in a series of optoelectronic property due to expose more active centres for HSTC 3-NS. These results significantly enhance the photocatalytic selective oxidation of thioether. This study provides a new insight for the post synthesis modification of MOF photocatalyst and its application in photocatalytic organic synthesis.

Template-free Method to Prepare Porous Cu-containing Nanotubes with a Good Catalytic Performance for Styrene Epoxidation

Abstract:Cu-containing nanotubes with a large surface area and pore volume were prepared by using nanoscrolls derived from K4Nb6O17 as a support and a subsequent thermal transformation of Cu-containing nanoscrolls into Nb2O5 nanotubes. The method is facile and template-free. The catalytic performance of the resulted Cu-containing nanotubes was evaluated for styrene epoxidation in the presence of tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) and H2O2, respectively. It was found that Cu-containing nanotubes displayed a relative good catalytic performance with a styrene oxide (SO) selectivity of 46.9% by TBHP and a much higher SO selectivity of 94.6% by H2O2. Two possible mechanisms were put forward to explain the different catalytic behaviors in the two types of oxidation systems. Because of the thermal transformation of nanoscrolls into nanotubes, nanoscrolls may be a new kind of promising support for the design and assembly of novel heterogeneous catalysts.

Abstract:Ultrathin copper oxide (CuO) nanorods with diameters of similar to 3.6 nm were obtained in one step using oleylamine (OAm) as both the solvent and the surface controller. The oriented attachment is responsible for the formation of the ultrathin CuO nanorods. Furthermore, this ultrathin nanostructure catalyst exhibited excellent activity and high styrene oxide yields in styrene epoxidation.

Abstract:Porous organic frameworks (POFs) catalysts with a combination of the well-developed porosity and highly dispersed of active sites hold promise for boosting catalyst activity and selectivity. Among their many synthetic methods, one-step knitting strategies have gained superiority and potential for development. Here, two copper porphyrin based microporous polymers (SC-Cu and FC-Cu) were directly synthesized through Scholl coupling reaction and Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction respectively, which possess high surface area and efficient catalytic performance for styrene oxidation. Moreover, the hierarchical pores of SC-Cu gave it a unique catalytic performance with various olefins with excellent conversion rate. The insight achieved by this systematic analysis will contribute to the rational design of other POFs catalysts and widening extent of applications.

Abstract:Synthesizing ultrathin 2D metal-organic framework nanosheets in high yields has received increasing research interest but remains a great challenge. In this work, ultrathin zirconium-porphyrinic metal-organic framework (MOF) nanosheets with thickness down to approximate to 1.5 nm are synthesized through a pseudoassembly-disassembly strategy. Owing to the their unique properties originating from their ultrathin thickness and highly exposed active sites, the as-prepared ultrathin nanosheets exhibit far superior photocatalysis performance compared to the corresponding bulk MOF. This work highlights new opportunities in designing ultrathin MOF nanosheets and paves the way to expand the potential applications of MOFs.

Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) hold great promise as porous matrixes for the incorporation of Au nanoparticles (NPs) because of their rationally designed framework structures. Unfortunately, the as-synthesized bulk MOFs usually vary in the range of micrometer or sub-micrometer size, rendering extremely longer molecular diffusion distance of chemical species. 2D MOF nanosheets with extended lateral dimensions and nanometer thickness are expected to implement fast kinetics and effectively lower mass-transfer barriers during embedding Au NPs process and sequential catalytic reactions. In this study, a novel 2D nanosheet of mixed-ligand Ni(II) MOF (referred to NMOF-Ni) is successfully fabricated. With the merits of well-defined micropores and functional oxygen-decorated inner walls, the incorporation of quite monodisperse ultrasmall Au nanoparticles of around 1 nm into NMOF-Ni has been achieved for the first time. The resulting nanocomposites exhibit remarkable catalytic performance and good size selectivity toward aqueous reduction reactions of nitrophenol, taking advantage of ultrasmall Au and 2D nanosheet nature, as well as the intact microporosity of host matrix. The present encouraging findings might shed light on new ways to develop high-performance heterogeneous catalysts by using of 2D MOF nanosheets with functional cavities as hosts for homogeneous distribution of ultrasmall Au NPs.

Abstract:Metal nanoparticle-incorporated metal-organic framework (MOF) nanosheets have been deemed as a promising heterogeneous catalyst. We report the synthesis of ultra-thin two-dimensional MOF nanosheets and loading of Pd nanoparticles through an in situ reduction strategy under mild conditions. The obtained Pd@MOF showed high catalytic activity in hydrogenation reactions.
Facilitated Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction in Aerobic Environment on a Copper-Porphyrin Metal-Organic Framework.

Abstract:Herein, we fabricated a π-π stacking hybrid photocatalyst by combining two two-dimensional (2D) materials: g-C3N4 and a Cu-porphyrin metal-organic framework (MOF). After an aerobic photocatalytic pretreatment, this hybrid catalyst exhibited an unprecedented ability to photocatalytically reduce CO2 to CO and CH4 under the typical level (20%) of O2 in the air. Intriguingly, the presence of O2 did not suppress CO2 reduction; instead, a fivefold increase compared with that in the absence of O2 was observed. Structural analysis indicated that during aerobic pretreatment, the Cu node in the 2D-MOF moiety was hydroxylated by the hydroxyl generated from the reduction of O2. Then the formed hydroxylated Cu node maintained its structure during aerobic CO2 reduction, whereas it underwent structural alteration and was reductively devitalized in the absence of O2. Theoretical calculations further demonstrated that CO2 reduction, instead of O2 reduction, occurred preferentially on the hydroxylated Cu node.

Abstract:The morphology and heterojunction engineering are effective ways to boost the performance of Cubased catalysts. Herein, we have reported the designed synthesis of two-dimensional Cu-Cu O heterojunction nanosheets（2D Cu-Cu O NS） based on 3-aminopropyl-triethoxysilane（APTES, KH550） aided synthetic strategy. The APTES can act as both the ligand and alkali（-OH） source to guide the large-scale synthesis of 2D Cu-based precursor, which can transform into 2D Cu-Cu O NS by the controllable post-treatment.The Si species from APTES can protect the particles from the severe aggregation and growth, guaranteeing the formation of 2D sheets composed of small-sized Cu-Cu O heterojunction（about 20 nm）. The heterojunction interfaces can provide plentiful active sites to boost the catalytic ability. The 2D sheets can provide large accessible surface, being conducive to the contact of the catalyst and reactants. Benefiting from above virtues, the 2D Cu-Cu O NS showed the superior catalytic performance for the reduction of a series of nitro compounds, being superior to most reported non-noble metal-based catalysts. Notably,it exhibited good re-cycled performance with no obvious performance degradation after 10 consecutive catalysis. The present study will be promising to promote the application of the Cu-based catalysts, due to its ability to control the morphology and potential for the large-scale synthesis.
Enhancing CO2 Electrocatalysis on 2D Porphyrin-Based Metal-Organic Framework Nanosheets Coupled with Visible-Light

Abstract:2D catalysts combined with single atom sites are promising candidates to promote CO2 reduction performance, but the ability to target stable materials with distinct structure still remains challenging. Herein, a series of single metal atoms anchored 2D metal-organic framework nanosheets (MOF-NS-M) with visualized and well-ordered mesoporous structures are fabricated and exhibit enhanced CO2 reduction activity and selectivity with the assistance of visible-light. Encouragingly, the CO Faradaic efficiency of MOF-NS-Co exceeds 90% in a wide potential window of -0.5 to -1.0 V versus RHE and reaches 98.7% with 100 mV positive shift compared with the result measured under dark. The catalytic kinetics studies show a fast initial electron transfer to CO2 to form *COO- , thanks to the sufficient exposed active sites resulting from the nanosheet nature and adjusted electron transfer pathway caused by the porphyrin photoswitch.

Abstract:Multi-component two-dimensional (2D) hybrid sub-1 nm heterostructures could potentially possess many novel properties. Controlling the site-selective distribution of nanoparticles (NPs) at the edge of 2D hybrid nanomaterial substrates is desirable but it remains a great challenge. Herein, we realized for the first time the preparation of ternary hybrid CuO-phosphomolybdic acid-Ag sub-1 nm nanosheet heterostructures (CuO-PMA-Ag THSNHs), where the Ag NPs selectively distributed at the edge of 2D hybrid CuO-PMA sub-1 nm nanosheets (SNSs). And the obtained CuO-PMA-Ag THSNHs as the catalyst exhibited excellent catalytic activity in alkene epoxidation. Furthermore, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations demonstrated that the SNSs interact with Ag NPs to form stable nanoheterostructures. This work would pave the way for the synthesis and broader applications of multi-component 2D hybrid sub-1 nm heterostructures.

Abstract:Oxidation of styrene is a key reaction in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals, therefore oxidizing styrene with selective, efficient, and recyclable heterogeneous catalysts is significant from an environmental and economic standpoint.In this study, we report the transition Cr-based metal−organic framework [NH2-MIL-101(Cr)] as a heterogeneous photocatalyst, which efficiently promotes styrene epoxidation using H2O2 as a green oxidant, achieving high conversion efficiency (98%) and excellent selectivity (82%) under ambient conditions. Radical detection and quenching experiments reveal that superoxide (O2•−) acts as an active oxygen species, selectively promoting the oxidation of styrene into its oxidized form. This work provides insight into the development of a sustainable and cost-effective method for producing styrene oxide.

Monodisperse Pd Nanotetrahedrons on Ultrathin MoO3–x Nanosheets As Excellent Heterogeneous Catalyst for Chemoselective Hydrogenation Reactions

Abstract:Two-dimensional (2D) metal oxides are ideal host supports for constructing active hybrid catalysts in various organic reactions as they have large specific surface area, strong adsorption ability, and excellent thermal stability, which could serve as support and promoter to anchor noble metal nanoparticles with enhanced catalytic activity. Herein, a simple one-pot wet-chemical approach is developed for the synthesis of well-defined monodisperse Pd nanotetrahedrons on ultrathin MoO3-x nanosheets (Pd/MoO3-x). Novel 2D oxygen-deficient MoO3-x nanosheets are formed in the synthetic process, which can work as robust catalyst support. Furthermore, in situ growth route is beneficial for boosting chemical attachment and electronic communication between Pd nanotetrahedrons and MoO3-x nanosheets. Such a composite system that combines the advantages of electronic effect and strong metal-support interaction contributes to excellent performance for selective hydrogenation of alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehydes with high conversion (97%) and selectivity (96%) to its saturated aldehydes. Catalytic activity of Pd/MoO3-x nanocatalysts is improved through electronic structure regulation of Pd nanocrystals via electron-donating effect of oxygen vacancies in MoO3-x nanosheets. The high catalytic activity of our obtained hybrid catalysts associated with a synergy of electronic effect and strong metal-support interaction inspires the future exploration for other 2D oxides as functional supports to fabricate hybrid nanocatalysts for selective hydrogenation of alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehydes.
Staged oxidation of hydrocarbons with simultaneously enhanced conversion and selectivity employing O2 as oxygen source catalyzed by 2D metalloporphyrin-based MOFs possessing bimetallic active centers

Abstract:With the objective to realize efficient and selective oxidation of hydrocarbons with O2 to partial oxidation products, 2D metal–organic frameworks (2D MOFs) possessing bimetallic active centers (Co&Cu, Co&Zn, Cu&Zn) were prepared to construct confined catalytic domains and staged oxidation sites. All the 2D MOFs were characterized systematically through FT-IR, XPS, PXRD, SEM, TEM, EDS, BET and TG analyses. Applied to the partial oxidation of C-H bonds with O2, superior catalytic performance was observed in the employment of 2D MOF Co-TCPPCu as catalyst, in which both of the conversion and selectivity towards partial oxidation products were enhanced simultaneously. The superior performance of oxidation system employing Co-TCPPCu as catalyst was mainly because of the decreased disordered autoxidation at lower reaction temperature, suppressed free radical diffusion in the confined catalytic domains of Co-TCPPCu, and enhanced oxidation of C-H bonds with oxidation intermediate product R-OOH catalyzed by second metal center Cu(II). For the important and classical oxidation of cyclohexane in chemical industry, the conversion was increased from 4.39% to 5.31% with the selectivity towards partial oxidation products being enhanced from 85% to 95% compared with homogeneous metalloporphyrin T(4-COOCH3)PPCo as catalyst. The staged oxidation paths and catalytic mechanism were also explored systematically through control experiments, free radical capture and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analyses. This work presented an intelligent and valuable reference not only for the selective and efficient oxidative functionalization of hydrocarbons with O2 in both of the industrial application and academic research, but also for other important chemical transformations involved in free radicals.

Herein, we design and construct a class of CuO/2D PyTTA-TPA COFs (PyTTA: 1,3,6,8-Tetrakis(4-aminophenyl)pyrene, TPA: p-benzaldehyde) core/shell nanocubes to greatly boost the performance of photocatalytic hydrogen evolution and significantly inhibit the photocorrosion. The optimal CuO/PyTTA-TPA COFs core/shell nanocubes exhibit an excellent photocatalytic H evolution rate of 12.5 mmol h g, which is ∼8.0-fold and ∼20.0-fold higher than those of PyTTA-TPA COFs and CuO nanocube, respectively, and also is the best in all the reported metal oxides catalytic materials. The mechanism studies demonstrate that the appropriate matching band gaps and tight integration of PyTTA-TPA COFs and CuO nanocubes can significantly facilitate the separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs in the CuO/PyTTA-TPA COFs core/shell nanocube during the photocatalytic process, which ameliorates the photocatalytic H evolution activity. Most importantly, the 2D PyTTA-TPA COFs shell with outstanding intrinsic stability protects CuO nanocubes core from photocorrosion by showing no morphology and crystal structure change after 1000 times of photoexcitation.
A Highly Efficient Heterogeneous Catalyst of Bimetal-Organic Frameworks for the Epoxidation of Olefin with H2O2

Abstract:A series of bimetel organic framework MnxCu1−x-MOF were prepared. The MOFs was characterized and analyzed by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The catalytic activity of the developed catalyst was tested on various olefins by H2O2 as oxidant. The MOFs catalyst exhibits excellent catalytic activity for the epoxidations of various aromatic and cyclic olefins. Particularly, Mn0.1Cu0.9-MOF can achieve 90.2% conversion of styrene with 94.3% selectivity of styrene oxide at 0 °C after reaction 6 h. The MOF exhibited the catalytic activity of inverse temperature effect on epoxidation of styrene. The introduction of copper component can stabilize H2O2 and inhibit its decomposition to a certain extent. The catalyst can be reused at least five cycles without significant loss in activity towards epoxidation.

Abstract:In this work, we have proposed a strategy to fabricate double-shell nanotubes as amphiphilic photoactive nanoreactors (HTTBPC) through the ordered hybridization of mesoporous organosilicon (PMO) and titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) nanotubes. Unlike the previous rough composite, the heterogeneous structure established between cobalt-porphyrin functionalized PMO and conventional TiO 2 has a staggered matching band gap, which makes it have excellent light harvesting and high carrier separation ability. This is still unexplored. Interestingly, the prepared photocatalysts exhibited superior activity (99%) and benzaldehyde selectivity (94%) in the oxidation of styrene in water at room temperature, which was 3.8 and 2.8 times higher than that of TiO 2 nanotubes and PMO functionalized with cobalt porphyrin, respectively. It was demonstrated that the strong interaction between cobalt porphyrin PMO and TiO 2 improved the separation of photogenerated carriers and the amphiphilic properties of mesoporous organosilica boosted the adsorption of substrate molecules in water, contributing to the significantly enhanced photocatalytic activity. This work provides a design of high-performance photocatalysts for alkene oxidation under green conditions.
