Abstract:Reactive dividing wall column (RDWC) is the integration of reactive distillation and dividing wall column, which simultaneously has the advantages of both process intensification techniques. However, due to the strong coupling and Safety nonlinear characteristics, the research of RDWC is still insufficient in terms of control and operation. Moreover, the energy-efficiency and safety analysis of the process should be also considered when studying the control configuration of RDWC. In this paper, the process of producing n-butyl acetate in a reactive dividing wall column is taken as a study case. On the basis of the controllability index and exergy analysis method of steady-state process, the basic control structure with robust stability and energy-efficiency is selected. Five proportional-integral (PI) control schemes are further established on the preferred basic control configuration. Integral absolute error (IAE) and process route index (PRI) are applied as evaluation criteria to test the operability and hazard of the system in dynamic simulation, respectively. The results show that the CS1 control structure has the best stability compared with other control schemes, but its safety performance is the worst. The CS4 control structure combines controllability, energy-efficiency, and safety through a comprehensive analysis, which can be used as the preferred control scheme.
