Abstract:Aggregation induced emission (AIE) active copolymers P1-P6 with high molecular weights (14 000 - 17 000) and low polydispersity indices (1.3-1.4) were prepared through copolymerization of N-isopropyl acrylamide (NIPAM) and tetra(phenyl) ethene (TPE)-based acrylate monomers. Copolymers P1-P6 show comparable thermal stability to poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM), while their glass transition temperatures are higher by 7-9 degrees C than those of pristine PNIPAM. Copolymers P1-P6 are soluble in common organic solvents as well as in water. They retain a similar thermal sensitivity to PNIPAM, but their lower critical solution temperatures (LCST) are reduced with increase of TPE content. By changing the molar ratio of P1-P6/poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA) and pH, complexes P1-P6-PMMA were studied by fluorescence spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The complexes are non-emissive in THF, and their fluorescence can be turned on upon addition of water. Moreover, their fluorescence is enhanced with the decrease in pH values due to the formation of interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) through inter-polymer hydrogen bonding. Fluorescence spectroscopy and DLS results also reveal that the phase transition behaviour of IPNs upon heating could be significantly modified by pH change. Reduction in the pH value from 7.0 to 4.0 leads to the decrease in LSCT of IPNs by up to 5 1C with respect to PNIPAM. By tuning the pH value to dissociate the formed inter-polymer hydrogen bonds, the formed IPNs would be able to fold cooperatively to a compact structure without a loss of solubility at temperatures below the LCST. Thus, these novel IPNs with AIE active moieties would be used as drug delivery systems, in which the release process could be readily monitored by fluorescence spectroscopy.

Abstract:A novel apatite-based UV-excited dual-emitting Ca2Na2La6(SiO4)(4)(PO4)(2)O: Eu2+/Eu3+ phosphor (CNL: Eu2+/Eu3+) was designed and successfully synthesized by a solid-state reaction. Compared with previous reports on this family of materials, a structural study based on DFT calculation exhibited a new consequence that the monovalent ions in this system are more inclined to occupy the seven-coordinate cationic sites rather than the nine-coordinate sites. This result was confirmed by the structural refinement and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) data. Due to the coexistence of Eu2+ and Eu3+ dopants in the material, under 345 or 392nm excitation, CNL: 0.02Eu(2+)/Eu3+ exhibited a green Eu2+ emission band (528nm) and red Eu3+ emission peaks (around 618nm). The application potential of CNL:0.02Eu(2+)/Eu3+ in luminescent thermometry was studied by exploiting the temperature sensitivity of the fluorescent intensity ratio (green/red) at different temperatures. It was found that, under 345nm excitation, the fluorescent intensity ratio of CNL: 0.02Eu(2+)/Eu3+ displayed linear correlation over the temperature range of 298 to 473K with a high sensitivity of 2.82%K-1. Additionally, the emission color of the CNL: 0.02Eu(2+)/Eu3+ sample under UV lamp (254 and 365nm) excitation showed an obvious change (from green to red) as the temperature increased from 298 to 473K (from green to red). These results indicated that CNL: Eu2+/Eu3+ can serve as an excellent visual luminescent ratiometric thermometer. Furthermore, this work provides a novel reference for developing high-performance luminescence temperature-sensing materials.

Abstract:A novel switchable luminescent thermometer based on thermo-responsive triblock copolymer poly(ethylene glycol)-b-poly(acrylamide-co-acrylonitrile-co-dimethylaminoethylmethacrylate) (PEO113-b-P(AAm264-co-AN112-co-DMA8)) and Eu-containing polyoxometalate (Eu-POM) was successfully constructed. The copolymer synthesized by RAFT exhibited a linear response to temperature variations in aqueous media, which was quite different from the uncharged copolymer P(AAm-co-AN) having a specific upper critical solution temperature (UCST). Eu-POM was surrounded around thermo-responsive blocks through electrostatic interactions, and its luminescence could be finely tuned due to the sensitivity of copolymer to the temperature variation. In cold water, POMs were trapped in highly hydrophobic cores, exhibiting an intense emission. With the upraising of temperature, the emission intensity presented a gradual decrease and showed a linear correlation with temperature. When the complex solution cooled down, the luminescence could also be perfectly restored. This temperature-luminescence correlation could be held for numerous trials, showing a potential application in thermometer.
Fluoranthene-Modified Tetraphenylethene Derivatives: Synthesis, Aggregation-Enhanced Emission Characteristic and Their Highly Sensitive Detection of Picric Acid

Abstract:Aggregation-induced emission (AIE) active compounds and materials have become one of the hottest research topics worldwide, due to their unprecedented merits such as ultra-high fluorescence quantum efficiencies as aggregates or in solid state. Up to now, it is still extremely crucial and fundamental to expand the AIE-genic molecular systems for this research area. Here, we prepared two fluoranthene-modified tetraphenylethene (TPE) derivatives, TPE-FA and TPE-DFA, through the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling between boronate-bearing TPE and bromo-bearing fluoranthene under mild reaction condition. The conjugation between fluoranthene and TPE moieties assures that the as-prepared TPE-FA and TPE-DFA both possess aggregation-enhanced emission (AEE) characteristics. The emission maximum of TPE-FA and TPE-DFA as aggregates in THF/water mixtures is at 477 nm and 494 nm, and the absolute quantum yields of the two compounds in solid films are as high as 74.1% and 40.4%, respectively. They can be utilized as fluorescent probes for picric acid with high sensitivity. Their quenching coefficients can be as high as 4 X 10(4) L.mol(-1), while their detection limits can be lower than 1 mu g.g(-1). These AEE-active molecules are promising to act as fluorescent probes in the detection of other nitro-substituted electron-deficient molecules.

Abstract:Fluorescent sensors that respond to environmental conditions (temperature, pressure, and pH) have attracted widespread attention in recent years. Generally, traditional solid-state fluorescent materials tend to suffer from aggregation-induced quenching (ACQ) and difficulty of film forming, limiting their extensive applications. Therefore, researchers are focusing more and more attention on fluorescent sensors with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effects. Herein, the article reports an AIE molecule (TPEBZMZ) containing tetraphenylethylene (TPE) and benzimidazole fragments. The fluorescence properties of TPEBZMZ in solution and aggregation states have been investigated, and the luminescence performance and aggregation structures of solid-state TPEBZMZ after force and acid treatments have been explored. The results show obvious AIE and fluorescent sensing properties of TPEBZMZ, presenting force- and acid-induced discolorations. Moreover, the TPEBZMZ-based fluorescent nanofibrous film is fabricated by electrospinning the solution of TPEBZMZ blended with polylactic acid (PLA), which shows a good nanofiber film structure and exhibits reversible acid-induced discoloration property, even with only 0.5 wt% TPEBZMZ. This work provides a simple strategy to achieve stimulus-responsive fluorescent film.

Abstract:Poly(NIPAM-co-AAC) (P(NI-AC)) was synthesized by changing the polymerization conditions using poly( N -isopropylacrylamide) (NIPAM) as temperature-responsive polymer and acrylic acid (AAC). Thermosensing color indicators, that changes color depending on the external temperature, were fabricated using P(NI-AC), a pH indicator, and agar. The pH of the P(NI-AC) aqueous solution increased above the lower critical solution temperature (LCST, 34°C), and a gradual pH rise and the shrinkage of aggregate diameter continued up to 70 °C under conditions with high AAC polymerization ratio. The LCST of P(NI-AC) aqueous solution with glucose decreased, and the discoloration temperature range of the thermosensing color indicator with glucose shifted to lower temperature side from 37 to 30°C. The LCST of polymer synthesized with NIPAM, AAC, and N , N -dimethylacrylamide (DMA) increased, and the discoloration temperature range of the thermosensing color indicator shifted to higher temperature side from 39 to 50°C. These results indicated that the discoloration temperature range was successfully adjusted by as much as 20 °C.

Abstract:Traditional fluorescent thermometers are often responsive to stimuli such as acid, moisture, solvents, light irradiation, and other stimuli, thereby limiting their practical applications. This is further intensified by the growing complexity of unconventional scenarios with various interfering stimuli. Here, we develop a versatile fluorescent thermometer featuring fluorophore PTF1 dispersed in a polymer matrix at a low loading. At room temperature, the rigidity of polymer network is high, rendering PTF1 a yellow fluorescence due to its antirigidochromic behavior. Increasing the temperature reduces the rigidity of PTF1, effectively restoring the intrinsic blue fluorescence of PTF1. Benefiting from the excellent encapsulation effect of polymer matrices, this thermometer exhibits an exceptional anti-interference ability. Further, it could be shaped into various forms, enabling temperature measurements in diverse scenarios. Moreover, it could be customized to irreversible working modes, rendering the temperature history with recording features. This work offers a design of a fluorescent thermometer with advanced features unattainable with conventional fluorophores.

Abstract:A series of thermoresponsive AIE polymers were synthesized through the free radical copolymerization of the thermosensitive N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) monomer, the regulative oligo(ethylene glycol) methacrylate (OEGMA) monomer or methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomer, and the fluorescent tetraphenylethene monomer. By adjusting the loading ratio of NIPAM and OEGMA/MMA, the hydrophilicity of the copolymers can be fine-tuned, which enables further modulation of the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) as well as the detection temperature range. Below the LCST, hydrogen bonds are formed between the polymer chain and water molecules, which leads to good solubility and weak emission of the polymers. Above the LCST, interchain or intrachain hydrogen bonds within polymers are favored to form emissive polymer aggregates.

Abstract:Aggregation-induced emission (AIE) luminogens with highly tunable properties show great potential for many applications. In this study, we synthesized a new family of AIE-type poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(9-anthrylmethyl lysine) (PEG-b-PLys-An) diblock copolymers by taking advantage of amphiphilic self-assembly and rigid helical backbones. These copolymers can self-assemble into various assemblies through nanoprecipitation methods. The micelles using N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) as a cosolvent present brighter fluorescence than the vesicles prepared from tetrahydrofuran (THF). We demonstrate that the decreased solubility of copolymers in DMF results in the formation of more compact micelles with more excimer formation during the self-assembly process, while better solvent THF favors the formation of vesicles with stretched core chains. In addition, the secondary conformation of the polypeptide block shows pronounced effects on the fluorescence property. We further show the internalization of the assemblies using two types of cells by cellular uptake experiments. By the delicate design of the block copolymer, we successfully prepare the morphology- and conformation-dependent AIE materials for potential biomedical applications.

Abstract:Firstly,A monomerized fluorescence molecular 4-(2-acryloyloxy-ethylamino)-7-nitro-2,1,3-benzoxadiazole(NBDAE) was prepared with NBD-Cl(4-Chloro7-nitro-2,1,3-benzoxadiazole) as raw material.Then,well-defined thermoresponsive water-soluble random copolymers,poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-NBDAE)(P(NIPAM-co-NBDAE)),were prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP),with ethylbutyl-2-bromoiso-butyrate(t-EBiB) as initiator,and CuCl/Me6TREN as catalyst.The thermoresponsive copolymers were characterized by 1H-NMR,GPC,UV-Vis,and fluorescence measurement.The results indicate that the well-defined thermoresponsive hydrophilic copolymers are narrow molecular-weight distribution with the polydispersity index of less than 1.20.The copolymers possess good fluorescence performance.The phase transition temperature of PNIPAM is 30 ℃.At >30 ℃,The fluorescence emission of hydrophilic copolymers is weak.While at <30 ℃,the thermoresponsive hydrophilic copolymers exhibit 2.5 times increased fluorescence intensity.It is observed that temperature induce polymers collapse at elevated temperatures and can be employed as a novel temperature sensor.

Abstract:Fluorescent fibers are capable of discoloration behavior under special light sources, showing great potential for applications in biomedicine, environmental monitoring, heavy-metal-ion detaction, and anti-counterfeiting. In the current paper, temperature-sensitive fluorescent poly-acrylamide (PAM) nanofiber (AuNCs@PAM NF) membranes are prepared by mixing red fluorescent gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) synthesized in-house with PAM using the electrospinning technique. The AuNCs@PAM nanofibers obtained using this method present excellent morphology, and the AuNCs are uniformly dispersed in the fibers. The average diameter of the AuNCs@PAM NFs is 298 nm, and the diameter of AuNCs doped in the fibers is approximately 2.1 nm. Furthermore, the AuNCs@PAM NF films present excellent fluorescence and temperature-sensitive performance between 15 and 65 degrees. While under the 365 nm UV light source, the fiber film changes from white to red; this discoloration behavior weakens with the increase in temperature, and changes from deep to light red. Therefore, the approximate temperature can be identified using the color change, and a visual temperature-sensing effect can be achieved. The dual functions of temperature-sensitivity and fluorescent properties improve the scientificity and safety of nanofibers in the use of anti-counterfeiting technology.

Abstract:In this work aggregation-induced emission (AIE) type green NTIL polymer with acid/base stimuli-responsive behavior has been achieved by AB-type Barbier polymerization-induced emission (PIE). DFT calculations illustrate that NTIL mechanism is due to intramolecular charge transfer and through-space conjugation under polymer chain confinement. Furthermore, the AIE type green NTIL polymer exhibits potential for explosives detection at ppm level in solution and ng level at solid state. Due to the reversible acid/base responsive luminescent properties of AIE type green NTIL polymer, potential applications for luminescent encryption and decryption have been demonstrated as well.

Abstract:BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE Cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells have the characteristics of rapid proliferation, high efficiency, and broad spectrum in killing of tumor cells. However, there was few report about its clinical application on treatment for cancer patients. The current study was designed to evaluate the effect of adoptive transfer of autologous CIK cells on the patients with advanced malignant tumor. METHODS Peripheral blood mononuclear cells of the patients with advanced malignant tumor were separated by fractionation on Ficoll-Hypaque gradient, then cultured in the medium containing IFN-gamma, IL-2, and CD3McAb for 7 days in vitro, and than the cultured auto-CIK cells were transfused back to the patients. The numbers of transferred CIK cells per patient were 5-15 x 10(9) in one course of treatment. Among these patients, 47 cases received chemotherapy, 3 cases received radiotherapy before CIK cells transfusion. The interval between chemoradiotherapy and immunotherapy was over 2 to 4 weeks. RESULTS Among 63 patients receiving CIK cells immunotherapy, the total effective rate (PR + MR) was 44.46% (28). In the patients with increasing of CEA level in serum, 14 cases showed reduction of serum CEA and 1 cases remained increasing after the treatment with CIK cell. In the patients with increasing of AFP level in serum, similarly, 9 cases showed reduction of serum AFD and 1 case remained increasing. The absolute members of CD3, CD4, and CD8T cells increased to over 45% after being treated with CIK cells. Among treated patients, the appetite of 51 cases and performance and sleep of 32 cases got improved. Among 18 cases, 13 cases showed the pain relief. CONCLUSION Adoptive immunotherapy of auto-CIK cells can significantly enhance cellular immune functions and improve subjective symptoms, but without side effects, so this is a safe and effective treatment for the patients with malignant tumor.
