Abstract:The potential of porous diatom silica shells as a naturally abundant low-cost sorbent for the removal of arsenic in aqueous solutions was investigated in a batch study. The objective of this work was to chemically modify the silica shells of a diatom Melosira sp. with bifunctional (thiol and amino) groups to effectively remove arsenic in its toxic As(III) form (arsenite) predominant in the aquatic environment. Sorption experiments with this novel sorbent were conducted under varying conditions of pH, time, dosage, and As(III) concentration. A maximum adsorption capacity of 10.99 mg g-1 was achieved within 26 h for a solution containing 12 mg L-1 As(III) at pH 4 and sorbent dosage of 2 g L-1. The functionalized diatom silica shells had a surface morphological change which was accompanied by increased pore size at the expense of reduced specific surface area and total pore volume. As(III) adsorption was best fitted with the Langmuir-Freundlich model, and the adsorption kinetic data using pore surface diffusion model showed that both the external (film) and internal (intraparticle) diffusion can be rate-determining for As(III) adsorption. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) indicated that the thiol and amino groups potentially responsible for As(III) adsorption were grafted on the surface of diatom silica shells. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) further verified that this unique sorbent proceeded via a chemisorption mechanism through the exchange between oxygen-containing groups of neutral As(III) and thiol groups, and through the surface complexation between As(III) and protonated nitrogen and hydroxyl groups. Results indicate that this functionalized bioadsorbent with a high As(III) adsorption capacity holds promise for the treatment of As(III) containing wastewater.
Adsorption Behavior and Mechanism of Arsenic on Mesoporous Silica Modified by Iron-Manganese Binary Oxide (Femnox/sba-15) from Aqueous Systems.

Abstract:Iron-manganese binary oxides (FeMnOx) can remove contaminants from aqueous solutions with high efficiency, and mesoporous silica (SBA-15) is widely used as a supporting material due to its large specific surface area and good stability. In this study, SBA-15 was used to support FeMnOx in the synthesis of a novel arsenic (As) adsorbent (FeMnOx/SBA-15), and its characteristics under different reaction conditions, such as pH, temperature, presence of competing ions, and humic acid, were tested. The results showed that the contaminant adsorption efficiency of the novel adsorbent was better than that of bare FeMnOx, as the addition of SBA-15 decreased the agglomeration effect of FeMnOx. Additionally, FeMnOx/SBA-15 underwent calcination to further enhance its performance. The state of iron and manganese in FeMnOx/SBA-15 and the corresponding arsenic removal efficiency were improved by calcination at 350 degrees C with an FeMnOx/SBA-15 mass fraction of approximately 45%. Almost 90% of As (50 mL, 5.0 mg L-1) could be removed by 0.2 g L-1 of FeMnOx/SBA-15 (mass ratio of 45% and calcination temperature of 350 degrees C). The FeMnOx/SBA-15 could regenerate and still be used after four consecutive cycles. The high As sorption capacity, ability to regenerate, and reusability of FeMnOx/SBA-15 confirmed that this adsorbent is promising for treating As-contaminated drinking water.

Abstract:Contaminated groundwater with a high concentration of arsenic continues to pose health threats to millions of people worldwide, especially in Asia. As(III) is the dominant arsenic species in groundwater, and is more toxic, soluble, and mobile than As(V). Affected communities need accessible technologies to remove As(III) from drinking water, especially in rural areas. In this study, a strategy is adopted to assemble small-sized magnetic MnFe2O4 nanocrystal building blocks to form mesoporous clusters (NCs) with the advantage of increasing the magnetization while retaining superparamagnetic characteristics by using a solvothermal method, which is beneficial for efficient separation from treated water by a moderate magnetic field. The MnFe2O4 NCs combined with uniform mesoporous structure and small constituent nanocrystals (about 8-12 nm in size) provides a synergistic effect for enhanced adsorption performance toward As(III) with an adsorption capacity (>27.27 mg g(-1)) under neutral conditions. The analysis of Fourier transformed infrared spectra and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy demonstrates that the adsorption of As(III) on MnFe2O4 NCs is through the formation of a surface complex.
Adsorption behavior and mechanism of different arsenic species on mesoporous MnFe 2 O 4 magnetic nanoparticles.

Abstract:Arsenic pollution poses severe threat to human health, therefore dealing with the problem of arsenic contamination in water bodies is extremely important. The adsorption behaviors of different arsenic species, such as arsenate (As(V)), p-arsanilic acid (p-ASA), roxarsone (ROX), dimethylarsenate (DMA) from water using mesoporous bimetal oxide magnetic manganese ferrite nanoparticles (MnFeO) have been detailedly investigated. The adsorbent was synthesized via a facile co-precipitation approach and recovered conveniently owing to its strong magnetic properties. The obtained MnFeO with large surface area and abundant hydroxyly functional groups exhibited excellent adsorption performance for As(V) and p-ASA, in contrast to ROX and DMA with the maximum adsorption capacities of As(V), p-ASA, ROX and DMA of 68.25 mg g, 59.45 mg g, 51.49 mg g, and 35.77 mg g, respectively. The Langmuir model and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model correlated satisfactorily with the adsorption thermodynamics and kinetics, and thermodynamic parameters depicted the spontaneous endothermic nature for the adsorption of different arsenic species. The adsorption mechanism of different arsenic species onto MnFeO nanoparticles at various pH values could be explained by surface complexation and molecular structural variations. Attenuated Total internal Reflectance Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) further proved that arsenic species were bonded to the surface of MnFeO through the formation of an inner-sphere complex between the arsenic acid moiety and surface metal centers. The results would help to know the interaction of arsenic species with iron-manganese minerals and the mobility of arsenic species in natural environments.

Abstract:A novel magnetic sulfur-doped Fe-Cu-Y trimetal oxide (MST) nanomaterial was successfully synthesized by a chemical coprecipitation method to remove As(III) via simultaneous oxidation and adsorption and then characterized by BET, VSM, FESEM, XPS, and FTIR techniques. The effect of solution initial pH on the adsorption of As(III), and the adsorption kinetics and isotherm were investigated in detail. The results indicated that the MST nanoparticles exhibited an excellent performance for As(III) removal in a pH range of 7-10 and were easily separated from aqueous solution with a magnet. The maximum removal capability for As(III) reached 202.0 mg/g at pH 7.0. The adsorption of As(III) was well fitted by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir isotherm model, respectively. The investigation of mechanism revealed that As(III) could be oxidized to As(V) by O-2 center dot(-) and center dot OH free radicals, generated via the dissolved O-2 obtaining an electron from Cu(I) on the surface of the adsorbent and Fenton/Fenton-like reaction, respectively. Meanwhile, the produced As(V) was adsorbed onto the surface of the nanoparticles through the electrostatic attraction or diffusion. The adsorbed As(V) further interacted with -OH groups via ion exchange or with Y(III) on the surface of the adsorbent to form a precipitate. Therefore, the MST nanoparticles are promising for the removal of arsenic from water.

Abstract:As(V) in aquatic environment has posed a great threat to human beings due to its high mobility and toxicity. Developing economical and efficient adsorbents is vital for the removal of arsenic contamination in wastewater. We herein report the synthesis of FeOOH-MnO2/Sepiolite and Fe2O3-MnO2/Diatomite using the hydrothermal treatment method at 180 °C for 12 h with KMnO4, MnCl2, and FeCl3 as metal source and urea as precipitating agent. The FeOOH-MnO2 or Fe2O3-MnO2 composite was in situ grown on the sepiolite or diatomite support, resulting in a significant enhancement in surface area (which was 77.4 and 83.0 m2/g for the supported FeOOH-MnO2 and Fe2O3-MnO2 samples, respectively). FeOOH-MnO2/Sepiolite and Fe2O3-MnO2/Diatomite could effectively remove As(V), with the maximal As(V) adsorption capacities at 25 °C and pH = 7 being 124.3 and 148.2 mg/g, respectively. Furthermore, both samples exhibited good recycle As(V) adsorption performance. In addition. As(V) adsorption mechanisms of the samples were also discussed. The As(V) adsorption on FeOOH-MnO2/Sepiolite and Fe2O3-MnO2/Diatomite obeyed the Freundlich and Langmuir isothermal adsorption models, respectively. Considering their simple synthesis processes and excellent adsorption performance, we are sure that FeOOH-MnO2/Sepiolite and Fe2O3-MnO2/Diatomite are promising adsorbents for arsenic removal from wastewater.

Abstract:Iron (Fe) oxides are the most commonly used adsorbent materials for the aqueous removal of Arsenic (As), but they have deficiencies, including low uptake and poor removal of the relatively higher toxicity As(III). Introduction of transition metals into Fe-containing adsorbents, an inexpensive method of altering Fe chemical states, is likewise of interest for removing As(III) from water by means of adsorption. Porous cubic Fe-Mn structures with BET surface area of 450 m g were herein prepared via chemical etching of Mn-substituted Prussian Blue analogues (PBAs). Cyclic voltammetry showed a "protective" role of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) during the preparation process, so that Mn with high valence state was readily preserved in this binuclear corner-sharing structure. The calculated reaction Gibbs free energy, which was the most negative of the studied adsorbents, indicated that the adsorption was promoted in the presence of high valence Mn. The structures were capable of directly capturing As(III) oxyanions to below the acceptable limits in drinking water standards, and the saturation uptake capacity of 460 mg g was substantially higher than comparable materials under consideration. The work therefore presents a new benchmark for As-adsorbent materials and demonstrates the promise of the porous Fe-Mn structure for rapid removal of other metal ions from contaminated water for environmental remediation.
Adsorption of organic and inorganic arsenic from aqueous solution: Optimization, characterization and performance of Fe–Mn–Zr ternary magnetic sorbent

Abstract:Arsenic is a highly toxic pollutant and exists in inorganic and organic forms in groundwater and industrial wastewater. It is of great importance to reduce the arsenic content to lower levels in the water (e.g., <10 ppb for drinking) in order to minimize risk to humans. In this study, a Fe-Mn-Zr ternary magnetic sorbent was fabricated via precipitation for removal of inorganic and organic arsenate. The synthesis of sorbent was optimized by Taguchi method, which leads to an adsorbent with higher adsorption capacity. The adsorption of As(V) was pH dependent; the optimal removal was achieved at pH 2 and 5 for inorganic and organic As(V), respectively. Contact time of 25 h was sufficient for complete adsorption of both inorganic and organic As(V). The adsorption isotherm study revealed that the adsorbent performed better in sequestration of inorganic As(V) than that of organic As(V); both adsorption followed the Langmuir isotherm with maximum adsorption capacities of 81.3 and 16.98 mg g<sup>-1</sup> for inorganic and organic As(V), respectively. The existence of anions in the water had more profound effect on the adsorption of organic As(V) than the inorganic As(V). The co-existing silicate and phosphate ions caused significantly negative impacts on the adsorption of both As(V). Furthermore, the existence of humic acid caused the deterioration of inorganic As(V) removal but showed insignificant impact on the organic As(V) adsorption. The mechanism study demonstrated that ion exchange and complexation played key roles in arsenic removal. This study provides a promising magnetic adsorptive material for simultaneous removal of inorganic and organic As(V).

Abstract:Carcinogenic arsenic pollution in ground water seriously threatens the health and lives of humans all over the world. It is highly desirable to fabricate new materials for sustainable arsenate removal with high capacities, stabilities and recyclabilities. In this study, we demonstrate that uniform magnetic core–shell structured Fe3O4@Resorcinol-Formaldehyde@mesoporous TiO2 microspheres (denoted Fe3O4@RF@mTiO2) can function as excellent adsorbents for the fast removal of arsenate (AsV) in acidic environments with very high efficiency. The mesoporous TiO2 outer shell (50 nm in thickness) endows them with a high surface area of 337 m2 g−1 and a large pore volume of 0.42 cm3 g−1, thus resulting in a fast adsorption rate (1.16 g mg−1 h−1) and a high adsorption capacity (up to 139 mg g−1) calculated using the Langmuir model at a pH of 3. The inner Fe3O4 core (130 nm in diameter) makes separation facile from wastewater using a magnet. Moreover, the hydrophobic properties of the RF interlayer (10 nm in thickness) are increased after calcination at 200 °C, and this can protect the inner Fe3O4 cores against etching from acid solutions over long cycles. In addition, the study of the AsV adsorption mechanism on the core–shell mesoporous Fe3O4@RF@mTiO2 microspheres shows the existence of electrostatic forces and surface complexation interactions between arsenate and partially crystallized TiO2. Benefiting from all of these advantages, the multilayer magnetic core–shell structured design is expected to be a promising nanomaterial for long-term wastewater treatment.
Electrospinning Chitosan/Fe-Mn Nanofibrous Composite for Efficient and Rapid Removal of Arsenite from Water

Abstract:Efficient removal of extremely mobile and toxic As(III) from water is a challenging but critical task. Herein, we developed a functionalized sorbent of chitosan nanofiber with iron–manganese (Fe-Mn@CS NF) using a one-step hybrid electrospinning approach to remove trace As(III) from water. Batch adsorption studies were performed to determine the adsorption efficiency under a variety of conditions, including contact time, starting concentration of As(III), ionic strength, and the presence of competing anions. The experimental results demonstrated that the concentration of As(III) dropped from 550 to less than 1.2 μg/L when using 0.5 g/L Fe-Mn@CS NF. This demonstrates the exceptional adsorption efficiency (99.8%) of Fe-Mn@CS NF for removing As(III) at pH 6.5. The kinetic tests revealed that the adsorption equilibrium was reached in 2.6 h, indicating a quick uptake of As(III). The ionic strength effect analysis showed that the adsorbed As(III) formed inner-sphere surface complexes with Fe-Mn@CS NF. The presence of SO42− or F− had a negligible impact on As(III) uptake, while the presence of PO43− impeded As(III) absorption by competing for adsorption sites. The exhausted sorbent could be effectively regenerated with a dilute NaOH solution. Even after 10 cycles of regenerating Fe-Mn@CS NF, the adsorption efficiency of As(III) in natural groundwater was maintained over 65%. XPS and FTIR analyses show that the presence of M–OH and C–O groups on the sorbent surface is essential for removing As(III) from water. Overall, our study highlights the significant potential of Fe-Mn@CS NF for the efficient and quick elimination of As(III) from water.

Facile Synthesis of Manganese Dioxide Nanoparticles for Efficient Removal of Aqueous As(III)

Abstract:The development of highly efficient adsorbents for arsenic removal remains a challenge. In this paper, we propose the facile synthesis of hydrous manganese dioxide (HMO) and investigate its application in removal of As(III). By controlling the ratio of precursors, HMOs with different |ZP| values were successfully synthesized. It is found that HMO with a smaller value of |ZP| achieves a higher arsenic removal rate. Adsorption efficiency is confirmed to be pH-dependent and directly related to the adsorbent dosage. In addition, thermodynamics analysis shows that the adsorption reaction appears to be spontaneous and is accompanied by exothermic phenomena. Furthermore, the removal process of As(III) has the best fitting effect by the Freundlich adsorption model and pseudo-secondary dynamics model, which reveal that the adsorption sites are evenly distributed in the adsorption process. The FT-IR and XPS analysis further proves that the arsenite ions and HMO adsorbents have first formed a complex through electrostatic interaction, which is further converted into a more stable internal structure by a redox reaction. Abstract:The removal of arsenic contamination from the aqueous environment is of great importance in the conservation of the Earth's water resources, and surfactants are a promising material used to modify magnetic nanoparticles to improve adsorption properties. Therefore, it is important to develop efficient and selective adsorbents for arsenic. Surface modification of Fe 3 O 4 was carried out using anionic, cationic and zwitterionic surfactants to obtain composite Fe 3 O 4 @SDS, Fe 3 O 4 @CTAB, Fe 3 O 4 @SNC 16 and Fe 3 O 4 @NPC 16 (collectively referred to as Fe 3 O 4 @surfactants). The synthesized composite Fe 3 O 4 @surfactants magnetic nanoparticles were characterized by XRD, TEM and FTIR. The As(V) removal characteristics of the composite magnetic nanoparticles from the aqueous solution were evaluated by adsorption batch experiments which indicated the possibility of effective application of the surfactant-modified Fe 3 O 4 magnetic nanoparticles for the removal of As(V) from aqueous solution. The adsorption equilibrium of the composites was reached in 30 min and the kinetic data followed the pseudo-second-order model. Langmuir equation could represent the adsorption isotherm data very well. Moreover, under the identical conditions, Fe 3 O 4 @CTAB showed maximum capacity of adsorption for As(V) (55.671 mg g −1 ), with its removal efficiency being much higher than that of the other composites. In addition, the Fe 3 O 4 @surfactants composite magnetic nanoparticles retained 93.5% of its initial arsenic removal efficiency even after re-using it five times. The mechanism of arsenic adsorption by Fe 3 O 4 @surfactants composite magnetic nanoparticles was proved to be complexation via electrostatic attraction, which was mainly innersphere in nature.

Abstract:Arsenic (As) contamination of surface water has become a global concern, especially for the third world countries, and it is imperative to develop advanced materials and an effective treatment method to address the issue. In this paper, iron doped ZIF-8@MXene (Fe-ZIF-8@MXene) was prepared as a potential adsorbent to effectively and simultaneously remove As(III/V) from wastewater. To investigate this, Fe-ZIF-8@MXene was characterized before and after the removal of mixed As(III/V). The results of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), specific surface area (BET) and point of zero charge (pHpzc) showed that Fe-ZIF-8@MXene was prepared successfully and kept a stable structure after As(III) and As(V) adsorption. The particle size of Fe-ZIF-8@MXene was in the range of 0.5 μm to 2.5 μm, where its BET was 531.7 m2/g. For both contaminants, adsorption was found to follow pseudo-second-order kinetics and was best-fitted by the Langmuir adsorption model with correlation coefficients (R2) of 0.998 and 0.997, for As(III) and As(V), respectively. The adsorbent was then applied to remove As from two actual water samples, giving maximum removal rates of 91.07% and 98.96% for As(III) and As(V), respectively. Finally, removal mechanisms for As(III/V) by Fe-ZIF-8@MXene were also explored. During the adsorption, multiple complexes were formed under the effect of its abundant surface functional groups involving multiple mechanisms, which included Van der Waals force, surface adsorption, chemical complexation and electrostatic interactions. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that Fe-ZIF-8@MXene was an advanced and reusable material for simultaneous removal of As(III/V) in wastewater.

Abstract:A new, easy, rapid and relatively inexpensive method using microscopy has been developed for the detection of herbicide effects in leaves of grass weed species displaying no visual signs of damage. The method has potential to be used as a tool to indicate future death of grass species due to herbicide exposure by observing phytochemical effects, i.e. early-warning effects. In the present study, Apera spica-venti (L.) Beauv., Bromus hordeaceus L., Alopecurus myosuroides Huds., Lolium perenne L. and Poa annua L. were exposed to lethal rates of four herbicides with different mode of action. The herbicides investigated were the thiocarbamate: prosulfocarb, the sulfonylurea: iodosulfuron, the aryloxyphenoxypropionate: fenoxaprop-P-ethyl and the organophosphate glyphosate. Autofluorescence of leaves was studied under a microscope using ultraviolet and blue light. The fluorescence of leaves treated to enhance flavonoids was also examined. To confirm the results, microspectrofluorometry was performed. Effects indicating future death of the grasses were observed in visually healthy leaves following treatment with prosulfocarb, glyphosate and iodosulfuron. No changes were detected following treatment with fenoxaprop-P-ethyl. After exposure to glyphosate or iodosulfuron, changes in the content of flavonoids and other compounds with a conjugation system and rigid structure and a decrease in the content of chlorophyll were detected in the leaves. Prosulfocarb treatment resulted in changes in the content of flavonoids and other compounds with a conjugation system and rigid structure and an increase in the content of chlorophyll in the leaves. The results obtained from microspectrofluorometry indicated that exposure to prosulfocarb caused a reduction in the flavonoids quercetin, naringenin and/or naringin.
One-Step Preparation of Chitosan-Based Magnetic Adsorbent and Its Application to the Adsorption of Inorganic Arsenic in Water

Abstract:Chitosan is a kind of biodegradable natural polysaccharide, and it is a very promising adsorber material for removing metal ions from aqueous solutions. In this study, chitosan-based magnetic adsorbent CMC@Fe3O4 was synthesized by a one-step method using carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC) and ferric salts under relatively mild conditions. The Fe3O4 microspheres were formed and the core–shell structure of CMC@Fe3O4 was synthesized in the meantime, which was well characterized via SEM/TEM, XRD, VSM, FT-IR, thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), XPS, size distribution, and zeta potential. The effects of initial arsenic concentration, pH, temperature, contact time, and ionic strength on adsorption quantity of inorganic arsenic was studied through batch adsorption experiments. The magnetic adsorbent CMC@Fe3O4 displayed satisfactory adsorption performance for arsenic in water samples, up to 20.1 mg/g. The optimal conditions of the adsorption process were pH 3.0, 30−50 °C, and a reaction time of 15 min. The adsorption process can be well described by pseudo-second-order kinetic model, suggesting that chemisorption was main rate-controlling step. The Langmuir adsorption model provided much higher correlation coefficient than that of Freundlich adsorption model, indicating that the adsorption behavior is monolayer adsorption on the surface of the magnetic adsorbents. The above results have demonstrated that chitosan-based magnetic adsorbent CMC@Fe3O4 is suitable for the removal of inorganic arsenic in water.

Abstract:The rapid removal of trace arsenic is crucial for ensuring the safety of drinking water. However, achieving the rapid removal of trace arsenic poses a significant challenge. In this study, we aim to enhance the removal efficiency of trace arsenic by increasing the specific surface area of the adsorbent material while maintaining its micrometer size. The material design allowed for the rapid removal of trace amounts of As(III) in groundwater within 10 s, resulting in a concentration as low as 0.281 μg L −1 , which meets the WHO drinking water standard (<10 μg L −1 ). Our experimental results demonstrated that the FeMn binary oxide could partially oxidize As(III) into As(V), achieving a removal efficiency exceeding 99 %. Furthermore, we investigated the influence of common cations and anions, such as K + , Mg 2+ , Ca 2+ , Cl − , NO 3 − , SO 4 2− , and PO 4 3− , which may be present in natural water, on As(III) removal. Our findings indicated that the FeMn binary oxide exhibited remarkably high separation factors (ranging from 10 to 10 3 ) for other coexisting ions, indicating its exceptional selectivity for As(III) even in the presence of other ions. The outstanding arsenic uptake capability and selectivity of the FeMn binary oxide make it a highly promising adsorbent for the efficient removal of trace As(III) from aqueous solutions.

Abstract:By the fact that Cu(II) and Fe(III) have strong affinity toward inorganic arsenic, the present paper reported the preparation of the magnetic adsorbent CuFe2O4 for the removal of arsenic. This adsorbent was composed with Cu(II) and Fe(III) oxides and can be recovered by magnetic separation technique. The characterization and the arsenic adsorption properties of the magnetic adsorbent were also studied. The sorption capacity was related to the pH of arsenic containing solution and the adsorption was more efficient for removing arsenic from acid and neutral solutions. As(V) was found to be more strongly adsorbed than As(III) on the adsorbent, and its adsorption capacity was 10 mg/g at equilibrium concentration of 10 micrograms/L (pH 3.5-6.5). Arsenic adsorption was not influenced by the presence of chloride and phosphate, but slightly influenced by sulfate at 10-20 times concentration of arsenic. As(V) desorption was performed more efficiently than As(III) desorption using 0.1 mol/L NaOH, which was the result of the different adsorption mechanism for the two arsenic species on adsorbent.

Abstract:Fe-Mn Bimetal Oxide Adsorbent (FMO), a novel adsorbent for arsenic removal, was prepared by co-precipitation. The characteristics and adsorption properties of adsorbent were studied in detail. ξ potential characterization showed that pH_ zpc of FMO was near 6.0. SEM/EDX results indicated that the ratio of Fe to Mn on FMO surface was 3∶1. FMO was proved to be effective to remove both arsenate and arsenite from water, and the adsorption capacity attained to almost 80% of equilibrium capacity within the first 60 minutes. FMO could be successfully applied for arsenic removal in natural pH ranges. The normally presented ions in natural environment had no obvious side effect on arsenic adsorption by FMO except for phosphate, silicate and carbonate. Langmuir isotherm was found to fit well with arsenate adsorption (R~ 2 = 0.997), and Freundlich isotherm was employed to describe the experimental data for arsenite fairly well (R~ 2 = 0.989). The maximum adsorption capacities for arsenate and arsenite were 227 mg·g~ -1 and 312 mg·g~ -1 respectively.
