Abstract:Three dimensional (3D) hierarchical network configurations are composed of NiCo2S4 nanotube @Ni-Mn layered double hydroxide (LDH) arrays in situ grown on graphene sponge. The 3D graphene sponge with robust hierarchical porosity suitable for as a basal growth has been obtained from a colloidal dispersion of graphene oxide using a simple directional freeze-drying technique. The high conductive NiCo2S4 nanotube arrays grown on 3D graphene shows excellent pseudocapacity and good conductive support for high-performance Ni-Mn LDH. The 3D NiCo2S4@Ni-Mn LDH/GS shows a high specific capacitance (C-sp) 1740 mF cm(-2) at 1 mA cm(-2), even at 10 mA cm(-2), 1267.9 mF cm(-2) maintained. This high-performance composite electrode proposes a new and feasible general pathway as 3D electrode configuration for energy storage devices.

Abstract:Self-standing NiCO2S4 nanotube arrays have been in situ grown on Ni foam by the anion-exchange reaction and directly used as the electrode for supercapacitors. The NiCO2S4 nanotube in the arrays effectively reduces the inactive material and increases the electroactive surface area because of the ultrathin wall, which is quite competent to achieve high utilization efficiency at high electroactive materials mass loading. The NiCO2S4 nanotube arrays hybrid electrode exhibits an ultrahigh specific capacitance of 14.39 F cm(-2) at 5 mA cm(-2) with excellent rate performance (67.7% retention for current increases 30 times) and cycling stability (92% retention after 5000 cycles) at a high mass loading of 6 mg cm(-2). High areal capacitance (4.68 F cm(-2) at 10 mA cm(-2)), high energy density (31.5 Wh kg(-1) at 156.6 W kg(-1)) and high power density (2348.5 W kg(-1) at 16.6 Wh kg(-1)) can be achieved by assembling asymmetric supercapacitor with reduced graphene oxide at a total active material mass loading as high as 49.5 mg. This work demonstrates that NiCO2S4 nanotube arrays structure is a superior electroactive material for high-performance supercapacitors even at a mass loading of potential application-specific scale. Abstract:Transition-metal selenide electrodes have recently attracted increasing interest in supercapacitors resulting from their superior electrochemical performance, lower-cost, and environmental friendliness. Herein, we report a novel bimetallic Ni-Co selenide nanosheet/three-dimensional (3D) graphene/nickel foam binder-free electrode (NiCo2.1Se3.3 NSs/3D G/NF) prepared via chemical vapor deposition followed by a simple two-step hydrothermal process in this paper. The NiCo2.1Se3.3 NSs array vertically on 3D G/NF with a uniform and stable structure without using any chemical binders. This novel electrode is flexible, highly conductive, and exhibits an excellent specific capacitance of ∼742.4 F g-1 at 1 mA cm-2. Furthermore, with a 10-fold increase to 10 mA cm-2, it still retains 471.78 F g-1 and a high cycling stability of ∼83.8% of the initial retention after 1000 cycles at 10 mA cm-2, demonstrating that NiCo2.1Se3.3 NSs/3D G/NF binder-free electrode has potential for energy storage application in high-performance supercapacitor fields.

Abstract:One of the key challenges for pseudocapacitive electrode materials with highly effective capacitance output and future practical applications is how to rationally construct hierarchical and ordered hybrid nanoarchitecture through the simple process. Herein, we design and synthesize a novel NiMn-layered double hydroxide nanosheet@Ni 3 S 2 nanorod hybrid array supported on porous nickel foam via a one-pot hydrothermal method. Benefited from the ultrathin and rough nature, the well-defined porous structure of the hybrid array, as well as the synergetic effect between NiMn-layered double hydroxide nanosheets and Ni 3 S 2 nanorods, the as-fabricated hybrid array-based electrode exhibits an ultrahigh specific capacitance of 2703 F g −1 at 3 A g −1 . Moreover, the asymmetric supercapacitor with this hybrid array as a positive electrode and wood-derived activated carbon as a negative electrode demonstrates high energy density (57 Wh Kg −1 at 738 W Kg −1 ) and very good electrochemical cycling stability.

Abstract:In this work, we synthesized: the hierarchical ZnO@C@NiO core shell nanorods arrays (CSNAs). grown on a carbon cloth (CC) conductive substrate by a three-step Method involving, hydrothermal and chemical bath methods. The morphology and chemical structure of the hybrid nanoarrays were characterized in detail. The combination and formation mechanism was proposed. The conducting carbon layer between. ZnO and NiO layers can efficiently enhance the electric conductivity of the integrated electrodes, and also protea the corrosion of ZnO in an alkaline solution. Compared with ZnO@NiO nanorods arrays (NAs), the NiO in CC/ZnO@C@NiO electrodes, which possess a unique multilevel core-shell nanostructure exhibits a higher specific capacity (677 C/g at 1.43 A/g) and an enhanced cycling stability (capacity remain 71% after 5000 cycles), on account of the protection of carbon layer derived from glucose. Additionally, a flexible all-solid-state supercapacitor is readily constructed by coating the PVA/KOH gel electrolyte between the ZnO@C@NiO CSNAs and commercial graphene. The energy density of this all-solid-state device decreases from 35.7 to 16.0 Wh/kg as the power density increases from 380.9 to 2704.2 W/kg with an excellent cycling stability (87.5% of the initial capacitance after 10000 cycles). Thereby; the CC/ZnO@C@NiO CSNAs of three-dimensional hierarchical structure is promising electrode materials for flexible all-solid-state supercapacitors.
Hierarchical Structure Electrodes of NiO Ultrathin Nanosheets Anchored to NiCo2O4 on Carbon Cloth with Excellent Cycle Stability for Asymmetric Supercapacitors

Abstract:To fabricate free-standing electrodes with hierarchical structured redox-type metal oxides has become a wise strategy for the development of high-performance energy storage systems. Two types of NiCo2O4 with needle-like and slice-like morphologies act as the conducting cores and hydrothermally grow on carbon cloth (CC/NiCo2O4-N and CC/NiCo2O4-S). The mesoporous NiO ultrathin nanosheets further are anchored on the surface of the two types of CC/NiCo2O4 to form the novel high-performance electrodes (CC/NiCo2O4-N@0NiO and CC/NiCo2O4-S@NiO). Particularly, the formation mechanism of NiO ultrathin nanosheets is proposed. The two integrated electrodes of CC/NiCo2O4-N@NiO and CC/NiCo2O4-S@NiO exhibit high specific capacitance of 921.9 and 852.9 mF/cm(2) (or 709.1 and 775.1 F/g) at 2 mA/cm(2), respectively and excellent long cycling lifespan (both 100% retention after 10,000 cycles). The assembled asymmetric supercapacitors, CC/NiCo2O4-N@NiO//graphene and CC/NiCo2O4-S@NiO//graphene, can still deliver the high energy density and power density, and possess excellent cycling stability (95.2% and 92.3% retention after 10,000 cycles, respectively). Our work not only provides an attractive strategy and a two-step facile method for construction of hierarchical electrodes based on ultrathin NiO sheets and nanostructured NiCo2O4, but also offers a strategy for high-performance supercapacitors.

Abstract:Designing optimized nano-sized architecture is a promising approach to prepare high-performance elec-trode materials for supercapacitors. In this work, a hierarchical multi-shelled structure has been success-fully synthesized, which consists of a 3D carbon nanofiber network as a supporting scaffold prepared by carbonization of aramid nanofiber aerogel, an intermediate polypyrrole (PPy) bonding layer and a NiCoO2 outer shell, just like a coaxial cable in the structure. The intermediate PPy layer facilitates the uniform deposition of NiCoO2 by providing more anchor sites, and enhances the electrical contact between carbon nanofiber network and NiCoO2 shell due to its high conductivity and good compatibility with two differ-ent substances. The synergistic effect of the hierarchical configuration endows the electrode material with a high specific capacitance of 1037 F g-1 at 1 A g-1 and excellent cycling stability (-89% of initial capacitance after 7000 cycles). Moreover, an asymmetric supercapacitor based on the composite and acti-vated carbon achieves a high energy density of 37.7 Wh kg-1 at a power density of 465 W kg-1 in 1.65 V. MOF-Derived NiS 2 @Carbon Microspheres Wrapped with Carbon Nanotubes for High Cycle Performance Supercapacitors

Abstract:Nickel sulfides are seemed as potential electrode materials of supercapacitors (SCs). Unfortunately, the unsatisfied structural stability of nickel sulfides lies in the way of their long-term working and applications. Herein, inspired by the biological structure of chestnuts, a ternary heterostructure composed of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) linked with NiS 2 @carbon microspheres (xNCC) was constructed by using Ni-MOF as precursor. Electrochemical evaluations showed that the as-obtained xNCC composites presented an optimal specific capacitance of 1572 F/g at 0.5 A/g. Additionally, the aqueous supercapacitor device exhibited a superior energy density of 21.6 Wh/kg, as well as a performance of 94.8 % superior cycling stability after 10000 cycles. It is supposed that the unique ternary heterostructure avoids/relieves the agglomeration of NiS 2 , weakens volume expansion and provides abundant as well as promote the stability of electrochemical active sites. More importantly, the 3D structural features of xNCC impart the electrodes with porous microstructures that are able to shorten the distance of ion-diffusion, thus enhancing the cycling stability and electrochemical performance. The present strategy may enlighten the structural design of electrode materials that can be further applied in SCs and other energy storage devices.

Abstract:To design and prepare novel composites with strong electrode structure and superior electrochemical performances via a facile and convenient synthesis method is a significant challenge to develop the high-performance materials for energy storage and conversion devices. Herein, we fabricated a novel hybridization of two dimensional (2D) Ti3C2-MXenes nanosheets and one dimensional (1D) nickel-cobalt sulfide (NiCo2S4) hollow nanotubes though the favorable electrostatic interaction between the negatively charged Ti3C2 and positively charged NiCo2S4 nanotubes. The electrode combined the good metallic conductivity of Ti3C2-MXenes and high pseudo-capacitance of NiCo2S4 demonstrated the outstanding electrochemical performance for supercapacitors. Herein, 2D Ti3C2-MXenes/1D NiCo2S4 hybrid electrode achieved an excellent specific capacitance of 1927 F at 2 mV s(-1), long cycling stability for 4000 cycles and charming rate performances, which is mainly ascribed to the synergistic effect and interfacial interaction between two components. Particularly, the novel hybrid material with 1D and 2D hierarchical structures can provide additional electrochemical reaction sites, supply shorter paths for ions diffusion and electron transport, and effectively raise the charge transfer kinetics during the electrochemical process, which explores a new strategy aimed to develop 2D Ti3C2-MXenes energy storage devices with high electrochemical performance, and is possible potential for expansion into other application fields.

Abstract:To meet the crucial demand for high-performance supercapacitors, much effort has been devoted to exploring electrode materials with nanostructures and electroactive chemical compositions. Herein, iron carbide nanoparticles are encapsulated into carbon nanofibers (Fe3C@CNF-650) through electrospinning and annealing methods. Nickel-cobalt sulfide nanoparticles are hydrothermally grown on electrospun carbon nanofibers (CNF@NiCoS-650). The Faradaic electrochemical reactions of transition metal compounds improve the specific capacitance of the developed electrode. Meanwhile, the electrically conductive framework of carbon nanofibers facilitates Faradic charge transport. In detail, the Fe3C@CNF-650 anode and CNF@NiCoS-650 cathode achieve specific capacitances of 1551 and 205 F g-1, respectively, at a current density of 1 A g-1. A hybrid supercapacitor that is fabricated from the Fe3C@CNF-650 anode and CNF@NiCoS-650 cathode delivers an energy density of 43.2 Wh kg-1 at a power density of 800 W kg-1. The designed nanostructures are promising for practical supercapacitor applications.

Abstract:3D interconnected NiCo2S4 nanosheets have been directly grown on nickel foams using a facile two-step solution-based method. The as-prepared electrodes with controllable mass loadings and microstructures show excellent electrochemical performance, indicating their potential application as supercapacitors. Electrochemical measurements exhibit that the NiCo2S4/nickel foam electrode has a competitive areal specific capacitance (10.82 F cm(-2) at 10 mA cm(-2)), relatively high rate capability (40.3% capacitance retention at 80 mA cm(-2)) and good cycling stability (92% capacitance retention after 1500 cycles at 20 mA cm(-2)).

Abstract:An N-superdoped 3D graphene network structure with an N-doping level up to 15.8 at% for high-performance supercapacitor is designed and synthesized, in which the graphene foam with high conductivity acts as skeleton and nested with N-superdoped reduced graphene oxide arogels. This material shows a highly conductive interconnected 3D porous structure (3.33 S cm(-1)), large surface area (583 m(2) g(-1)), low internal resistance (0.4 Omega ), good wettability, and a great number of active sites. Because of the multiple synergistic effects of these features, the supercapacitors based on this material show a remarkably excellent electrochemical behavior with a high specific capacitance (of up to 380, 332, and 245 F g(-1) in alkaline, acidic, and neutral electrolytes measured in three-electrode configuration, respectively, 297 F g(-1) in alkaline electrolytes measured in two-electrode configuration), good rate capability, excellent cycling stability (93.5% retention after 4600 cycles), and low internal resistance (0.4 Omega), resulting in high power density with proper high energy density.

Abstract:Recently, the construction of morphology and structure is considered to be one of the key factors to improve the cycle stability and rate performance of nanomaterials. Herein, MnCo2S4/NiCo2S4 (MCS/NCS) composites with three-dimensional network structures were fabricated by simple electrodeposition of NiCo2S4 nanosheets on the MnCo2S4 nanosheets framework. Compared with the two-dimensional nanosheet structure, the three-dimensional network structure of MCS/NCS has good capacitive and conductive properties. Also, the effects of electrodeposition time on the morphology and electrochemical properties of the composites were studied. Among them, MCS/NCS-6 stands out for its unique structure and excellent electrochemical properties, exhibiting excellent specific capacity (920 C g−1 at a current density of 1 A g−1) and good cycling stability. More importantly, the fabricated asymmetric supercapacitor MCS/NCS//AC assembly has a high energy density of 45.6 Wh kg−1 (800 W kg−1 power density) and good cycle life (75.6%, 10,000 cycles), demonstrating the potential application of this uniquely structured electrode material in alkaline aqueous energy storage devices such as asymmetric supercapacitors (ASC).

Core–Shell Structured Carbon Nanofiber-Based Electrodes for High-Performance Supercapacitors

Abstract:The combination of multiple electrode materials and their reasonable structural design are conducive to the preparation of composite electrodes with excellent performance. In this study, based on carbon nanofibers grown with Ni(OH)2 and NiO (CHO) prepared by electrospinning, hydrothermal growth, and low-temperature carbonization, five transition metal sulfides (MnS, CoS, FeS, CuS, and NiS) were hydrothermally grown on their surfaces, exhibiting that CHO/NiS had the optimal electrochemical properties. Subsequently, the effect of hydrothermal growth time on CHO/NiS revealed that the electrochemical performance of CHO/NiS-3h was optimal, with a specific capacitance of up to 1717 F g−1 (1 A g−1), due to its multistage core–shell structure. Moreover, the diffusion-controlled process of CHO/NiS-3h dominated its charge energy storage mechanism. Finally, the asymmetric supercapacitor assembled with CHO/NiS-3h as the positive electrode demonstrated an energy density of 27.76 Wh kg−1 at a maximum power density of 4000 W kg−1, and it still maintained a power density of 800 W kg−1 at a maximum energy density of 37.97 Wh kg−1, exhibiting the potential application of multistage core–shell composite materials in high-performance supercapacitors.

Abstract:Recently, carbon nanotubes (CNT)-based interconnected architectures exhibit promising prospects in supercapacitors due to their flexibility and high electrical conductivity. Herein, a three-dimensional (3D) interconnected network structure combined with conductive carbon nanotubes interpenetrating MOFs-derived Co-Ni-S composite spheres (Co-Ni-S/CNTs) was synthesized. Such 3D interconnected architecture significantly leads to a favorable electronic structure, fast charge-transfer capacity, and more pseudocapacitive. The Co-Ni-S/CNTs-based hybrid electrode exhibits an extraordinary specific capacitance of 540.6C g−1 at 1 A g−1 and competitive rate performance (capacity retention rate of 69.9% when the current density increases to 10 times). Subsequently, a hybrid supercapacitor is assembled using Co-Ni-S/CNTs as the positive electrode and commercial activated carbon as negative electrode. The device delivers a high energy density of 63.5 W h kg−1 at 800 W kg−1 and keeps 83.0% initial capacitance retention after 10,000 cycles. The encouraging performances demonstrate the significant contribution of the 3D interconnected architecture for the future energy storage.

Abstract:In this work, nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (N-GQDs) are introduced into the honeycomb structure of NiCo2S4 nanoarrays on a carbon cloth by electrodeposition, which significantly enhances the electrochemical performances of NiCo2S4 as an electrode of hybrid supercapacitors. The honeycomb framework structure of NiCo2S4 nanosheets not only increases more active sites but also improves the structural stability of the electrode material. At the same time, the introduction of N-GQDs improves the wettability of NiCo2S4 and effectively reduces its internal resistance. As an electrode material, the NiCo2S4/N-GQDs@CC composite shows outstanding capacitive properties with an areal capacity of 1803 mC cm–2 at 3 mA cm–2. In addition, the assembled symmetric supercapacitor device can provide a high energy density of 127 μWh cm–2 at a power density of 1000 μW cm–2, good rate performance, and cycle stability. After 2500 cycles, the capacity retention rate can still reach 83%. The outstanding charge storage capability may be due to the synergistic effect between its unique honeycomb structure, high porosity, and improved electrical properties of N-GQDs. This simple and controllable synthesis strategy provides a reference for energy storage applications.

Three-Dimensional Porous Network Electrodes with Cu(OH)2 Nanosheet/Ni3S2 Nanowire 2D/1D Heterostructures for Remarkably Cycle-Stable Supercapacitors

Abstract:Developing advanced electrode materials with highly improved charge and mass transfer is critical to obtain high specific capacities and long-term cycle life for energy storage. Herein, three-dimensionally (3D) porous network electrodes with Cu(OH)(2) nanosheets/Ni3S2 nanowire 2D/1D heterostructures are rationally fabricated. Different from traditional surface deposition, the 1D/2D heterostructure network is obtained by in situ hydrothermal chemical etching of the surface layer of nickel foam (NF) ligaments. The Cu(OH)(2)/Ni3S2@NF electrode delivers a high specific capacity (1855 F g(-1) at 2 mA cm(-2)) together with a remarkable stability. The capacity retention of the electrode is over 110% after 35,000 charge/discharge cycles at 20 mA cm(-2). The improved performance is attributed to the enhanced electron transfer between 1D Ni3S2 and 2D Cu(OH)(2), highly accessible sites of 3D network for electrolyte ions, and strong mechanical bonding and good electrical connection between Cu(OH)(2)/Ni3S2 active materials and the conductive NF. Especially, the unique 1D/2D heterostructure alleviates structural pulverization during the ion insertion/desertion process. A symmetric device applying the Cu(OH)(2)/Ni3S2@NF electrode exhibits a remarkable cycling stability with the capacitance retention maintaining over 98% after 30,000 cycles at 50 mA cm(-2). Therefore, the outstanding performance promises the architectural 1D/2D heterostructure to offer potential applications in future electrochemical energy storage.

Abstract:In this paper, we described a simple two–step method for preparing needle-like CoNi2S4/CNT/graphene nanocomposite with robust connection among its ternary components. The prepared CoNi2S4/CNT/graphene nanocomposite has been thoroughly characterized by spectroscopic (Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy), X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis. Microscopy techniques (scanning electron microscopy–energy dispersive spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy) were employed to probe the morphological structures. The electrochemical properties of the as-prepared 3D architectures were investigated with three and two-electrode systems. In addition to its high specific capacitance (710Fg−1 at 20Ag−1), after charging–discharging for 2000 cycles, the electrode still maintained the capacity retention of about 82%. When used as the active electrode material for supercapacitors, the fabricated CoNi2S4–g–CNT nanostructure exhibited excellent specific capacitance and good rate capability, making it a promising candidate for next-generation supercapacitors.

Abstract:An N‐superdoped 3D graphene network structure with an N‐doping level up to 15.8 at% for high‐performance supercapacitor is designed and synthesized, in which the graphene foam with high conductivity acts as skeleton and nested with N‐superdoped reduced graphene oxide arogels. This material shows a highly conductive interconnected 3D porous structure (3.33 S cm−1), large surface area (583 m2 g−1), low internal resistance (0.4 Ω), good wettability, and a great number of active sites. Because of the multiple synergistic effects of these features, the supercapacitors based on this material show a remarkably excellent electrochemical behavior with a high specific capacitance (of up to 380, 332, and 245 F g−1 in alkaline, acidic, and neutral electrolytes measured in three‐electrode configuration, respectively, 297 F g−1 in alkaline electrolytes measured in two‐electrode configuration), good rate capability, excellent cycling stability (93.5% retention after 4600 cycles), and low internal resistance (0.4 Ω), resulting in high power density with proper high energy density.
