Abstract:The nanocomposites of MoS2 nanosheets and microporous nitrogen-doped carbon dodecahedron (MNCD) are prepared through the pyrolysis of metal-organic framework (MOF) and subsequent growth of MoS2. The porous and active surface of MNCDs enables uniform growth of ultrathin MoS2 nanosheets. When the MNCD@MoS2 composite is used as the anode material of Li-ion batteries, a reversible capacity of 915 mAh g(-1) can be obtained even at the extremely high current density of 10 A g(-1). The ultrafast charge/discharge ability of MNCD@MoS2 can be attributed to its unique core-shell structure with the inner MNCDs serving as the reservoir of Li-ions and transport media of electrons. Abstract:The achievement of the superior rate capability and cycling stability is always the pursuit of sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). However, it is mainly restricted by the sluggish reaction kinetics and large volume change of SIBs during the discharge/charge process. This study reports a facile and scalable strategy to fabricate hierarchical architectures where TiO2 nanotube clusters are coated with the composites of ultrafine MoO2 nanoparticles embedded in carbon matrix (TiO2@MoO2-C), and demonstrates the superior electrochemical performance as the anode material for SIBs. The ultrafine MoO2 nanoparticles and the unique nanorod structure of TiO2@MoO2-C help to decrease the Na+ diffusion length and to accommodate the accompanying volume expansion. The good integration of MoO2 nanoparticles into carbon matrix and the cable core role of TiO2 nanotube clusters enable the rapid electron transfer during discharge/charge process. Benefiting from these structure merits, the as-made TiO2@MoO2-C can deliver an excellent cycling stability up to 10 000 cycles even at a high current density of 10 A g(-1). Additionally, it exhibits superior rate capacities of 110 and 76 mA h g(-1) at high current densities of 10 and 20 A g(-1), respectively, which is mainly attributed to the high capacitance contribution.

Abstract:Currently, the specific capacity and cycling performance of various MoS2/carbon-based anode materials for Na-ion storage are far from satisfactory due to the insufficient structural stability of the electrode, incomplete protection of MoS2 by carbon, difficult access of electrolyte to the electrode interior, as well as inactivity of the adopted carbon matrix. To address these issues, this work presents the rational design and synthesis of 3D interconnected and hollow nanocables composed of multiwalled carbon@MoS2@carbon. In this architecture, (i) the 3D nanoweb-like structure brings about excellent mechanical property of the electrode, (ii) the ultrathin MoS2 nanosheets are sandwiched between and doubly protected by two layers of porous carbon, (iii) the hollow structure of the primary nanofibers facilitates the access of electrolyte to the electrode interior, (iv) the porous and nitrogen-doping properties of the two carbon materials lead to synergistic Na-storage of carbon and MoS2. As a result, this hybrid material as the anode material of Na-ion battery exhibits fast chargetransfer reaction, high utilization efficiency, and ultrastability. Outstanding reversible capacity (1045 mAh g(-1)), excellent rate behavior (817 mAh g(-1) at 7000 mA g(-1)), and good cycling performance (747 mAh g(-1) after 200 cycles at 700 mA g(-1)) are obtained.
Facile Synthesis of Ultrathin Mos2/C Nanosheets for Use in Sodium-Ion Batteries

Abstract:We present a clean and simple method for the synthesis of MoS2/C hybrids. Commercial ion-exchange resins are used to absorb aqueous molybdate, followed by annealing with sulfur powder in an inert atmosphere. Even ultrathin MoS2 nanosheets with enlarged interlayers (0.63 nm) are homogeneously wrapped by mesoporous graphitic carbon. When evaluated as anodes for sodium-ion batteries, the MoS2/C nanocomposite exhibits good electrochemical performance. The first discharge/charge capacities at current density 50 mA g−1 are 784.3 and 590.0 mA h g−1, respectively, with initial coulombic efficiency of approximately 75%. It exhibits superior rate capabilities, with specific discharge capacities of 513.1, 467.3, 437.1, 399.2, 361.8, and 302.7 mA h g−1 at current densities of 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000, and 2000 mA g−1, respectively. This superior electrochemical performance is mainly due to the synergistic effect between the uniformly-distributed, ultrathin MoS2 nanosheets and the highly graphitized carbon. This not only mitigates mechanical stress during repeated cycling, but also provides good conductivity.

Abstract:Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides are widely studied as anode materials for metal ion batteries. This application requires high electric conductivity which can be achieved by forming composites with conductive carbon. In this work, we demonstrate the creation of nanospheres composed of Mo-based thin nanosheets (MoS2, MoSe2 and Mo2C) uniform embedded within a N-doped carbon matrix. Using MoSe2/N-doped carbon nanospheres as an example, we investigate in detail the electrochemical property in Na ion storage and reveal the advantage over previously reported MoSe2 electrodes (higher capacity and improved capacity retention up to 500 cycles). Furthermore, we provide evidence by ex situ x-ray diffraction to the nominal irreversible conversion reaction during the first discharge.

Abstract:We introduce a hierarchical nanostructure of CoS2/N-doped carbon@MoS2 comprising two transition-metal sulfides CoS2 and MoS2, with enhanced sodium storage performance in sodium-ion batteries. A micron-sized Co metal-organic framework (MOF) is transformed into a CoS2/N-doped carbon composite, followed by a solvothermal growth of MoS2 nanosheets on the surface. The resulting composite material offers several specific advantages for sodium storage: (i) accelerated sodium-ion diffusion kinetics due to its heterogeneous interface; (ii) shortened ion diffusion path and exposed active sites for sodium storage due to its hierarchical nanosheet architecture; and (iii) homogeneous nitrogen doping of the MOF-derived carbon, which is beneficial for electronic conductivity. Due to these merits, this composite exhibits excellent electrochemical performance with a specific capacity of 596 mAh g-1 after 100 cycles at 0.1 A g-1 and 395 mAh g-1 at 5.0 A g-1.

Abstract:MoSe2 is a prospective anode material for Na-ion batteries because of its layered structure and high theoretical capacity, while the unsatisfied electrochemical performance limits its further development. Herein, we report MoSe2 nanosheets anchored on dual-heteroatoms functionalized graphene by a solvothermal method. The heteroatoms and carbon matrix coexist in the form of graphitic-N/pyridinic-N/pyrrolic-N and P-C/P═O bonds, which result in excellent electronic conductivity of the materials and provide abundant active sites for electrochemical process. Results indicated that organic intercalation increased the layer spacing of the materials to facilitate sodium-ion diffusion, and the in situ formed carbon networks improved the conductivity among the layers of the materials and alleviated volume expansion during the continued charge and discharge process. As an anode of Na-ion batteries, the nanosheets materials exhibited ultrahigh rate performance and deliver capacities of approximately 200 mAh g-1 at the current density of 10 A g-1. The ultrahigh-rate performance can be attributed to its unique nanosheets structure, the dual-heteroatoms functionalized graphene, and the considerable pseudocapacitive quality of the material.

Abstract:Molybdenum disulfide with a layered structure and high theoretical capacity is attracting extensive attention for high-performance lithium-ion batteries. In this study, a simple and scalable method by freeze-drying of (NH4)(2)MoS4 and dopamine mixed solutions along with subsequent calcination is developed to realize the self-assembly of hierarchical MoS2/carbon composite nanosheets via the effect of dopamine-induced morphology transformation, in which ultrasmall few-layer MoS2 nanosheets were homogeneously embedded into a N-doped carbon framework (denoted as MoS2@N-CF). The embedded ultrasmall MoS2 nanosheets (similar to 5 nm in length) in the composites consist of less than five layers with an expanded interlayer spacing of the (002) plane. When tested as anode materials for rechargeable Li-ion batteries, the obtained MoS2@N-CF nanosheets exhibit outstanding electrochemical performance in terms of high specific capacity (839.2 mAh g(-1) at 1 A g(-1)), high initial Coulombic efficiency (85.2%), and superior rate performance (702.1 mAh g(-1) at 4 A g(-1)). Such intriguing electrochemical performance was attributed to the synergistic effect of uniform dispersion of few-layer MoS2 into the carbon framework, expanded interlayer spacing, and enhanced electronic conductivity in the unique hierarchical architecture. This work provides a simple and effective strategy for the uniform integration of MoS2 with carbonaceous materials to significantly boost their electrochemical performance.

Abstract:Sodium-ion batteries have emerged as a desired alternative to lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) on account of their low cost, good safety, and large reserves of sodium in the earth's crust. The sodium storage capabilities of batteries significatnly depend on the structure and composition of electrode materials. Herein, a new type of C,N-codoped MoS2 nanoonions with ultralarge interlayer spacing of 1.16 nm has been successfully fabricated by vapor phase sulfuration of the as prepared PPy-PMo12 precursor at an optimized vulcanization temperature. More importantly, the delicate internal nanostructure has been directly observed via electron tomography (ET) technique and 3D reconstruction. Thanks to the structure and composition merits, the resulting anode materials of C/N-MoS2-800 delivers remarkable sodium storage properties. The reversible capacity retains 617.7 mA h g(-1) at 100 mA g(-1) after 200 cycles. The electrochemical kinetic analysis and density functional theory (DFF) calculations further comfirm that the expanded interlayer distance and C,N-codoping of MoS2 nanosheets promote the superior Na+ intercalation/deintercalation kinetics. In turn, the resulted pseudocapacitance-dominated electrochemical behavior also enables the superior rate capability.

Abstract:The preparation and electrochemical storage behavior of MoS2 nanodotsmore precisely single-layered ultrasmall nanoplatesembedded in carbon nanowires has been studied. The preparation is achieved by an electrospinning process that can be easily scaled up. The rate performance and cycling stability of both lithium and sodium storage were found to be outstanding. The storage behavior is, moreover, highly exciting from a fundamental point of view, as the differences between the usual storage modesinsertion, conversion, interfacial storageare beneficially blurred. The restriction to ultrasmall reaction domains allows for an almost diffusion-less and nucleation-free conversion, thereby resulting in a high capacity and a remarkable cycling performance.

Abstract:Engineering a hollow architecture has been regarded as an efficient strategy for boosting energy storage and conversion. Herein, hollow hierarchical carbon nanotubes coupled with MoS2 nanosheets were successfully designed and fabricated to construct high-performance lithium-/sodium-ion batteries. A tubular Mo–polydopamine hybrid precursor was formed by a simple metal chelation reaction and a self-template effect, and subsequently in situ converted into MoS2 nanosheets embedded into carbon nanotubes after heat treatment. Benefiting from the synergistic effect between strong coupling hierarchical carbon/MoS2 nanosheets and a tubular hollow structure, the as-prepared electrode exhibited an outstanding storage capacity and an ultrastable cycling stability for lithium-/sodium-ion storage. Evaluated as an anode for a lithium-ion battery, it presented a high-rate capacity of 1228.2 mA h g–1 at 1000 mA g–1. In-situ Conversion Growth of Carbon-Coated MoS2/N-doped Carbon Nanotubes As Anodes with Superior Capacity Retention for Sodium-Ion Batteries

Abstract:Layered structure MoS2 nanosheets have shown great potential for energy storage applications.However,the methodology for elaborately controllable growth of MoS2 onto carbonaceous matrix for promoting the electrochemical performance is highly desirable.Herein,a high-effective,all-in-one in-situ conversion growth strategy has been proposed to construct a stable sandwich-type nanostructure.The formation of the optimized C-MoS2/NCNTs product undergoes a dissolution-recrystallization process,in which ultra-thin carbon layer-coated MoS2 nanosheets densely assembled onto the surface of polyimide(PI)derived N-doped carbon nanotubes(CNTs).Theoretical simulation reveals that MoS2 nanosheets possessing an expanded interlayer spacing of 0.92 nm can greatly reduce the barrier energy of Na ions mitigation.Ac-cordingly,the as-made C-MoS2/NCNTs anode delivers superior cycling stability(82％capacity retention after 400 cycles at 1 A g-1)and rate performance(348 mAh g-1 at 2 A g-1).The results demonstrate that the expanded MoS2 interlayer distance,ultrathin outer carbon coating,and N-doped CNTs matrix together accounts for the outstanding sodium storage capability for the C-MoS2/NCNTs electrode.
Polyvinylpyrrolidone-derived nitrogen-doped carbon-coated MoS2 composites for enhanced sodium storage performance

Abstract:Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides, which display considerable theoretical capacity and large layer spacing, have been regarded as promising candidates as anode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). However, their low conductivity and large volume change during charge-discharge cycles leads to performance degradation. Herein, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) is used as a soft template to synthesize PVP-derived nitrogen-doped carbon-coated MoS2 composites (MoS2/NC) by a simple hydrothermal method followed by high-temperature treatment. The as-prepared composite exhibits a flowerball-like morphology and a diameter of approximately 250 nm. The optimized MoS2/NC has the most uniform particle size and provides the best performance, with a stable capacity of 504.9 mAh g-1 after 120 cycles at a current density of 100 mA g-1. It has excellent rate performance, which can reach 524.6, 481.9, 447.7, 412.5, and 370.9 mAh g-1 at current densities of 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 1 and 2 A g-1, respectively. The small particle size and the addition of carbonaceous materials play an important role in their excellent electrochemical properties. This study opens up a simple and effective way to synthesize high-performance two-dimensional MoS2 composite anodes for SIBs.

In the architecture, ultrathin carbon layer-coated MoS2 nanosheets with large expanded interlayer of 1.02 nm are vertically grown onto the Ti3C2 MXene and cross-linked carbon nanotubes (CNTs), giving rise to a highly conductive 3D network. The interlayer expanded MoS2 nanosheets can greatly facilitate the Na ions/electrons transmission. Meanwhile, the N-doped 1D/2D CNTs-Ti3C2 matrix can be used as a strong mechanical support to well relieve the large volume expansion upon cycles. As a combination result of several advantages, the developed quaternary C-MoS2/CNTs-Ti3C2 composite anode shows an excellent sodium storage performance (562 mA h g(-1) at 100 mA g(-1) after 200 cycles) and rate capability (475 mA h g(-1) at 2000 mA g(-1)). The density functional theory calculations further prove that the full combination of layer-expanded MoS2 nanosheets and N-doped Ti3C2 matrix can significantly enhance the adsorption energy of Na ions, further resulting in the enhancement of sodium storage capabilities. Abstract:MoS2 nanosheet arrays supported on hierarchical nitrogen-doped porous carbon (MoS2@C) have been synthesized by a facile hydrothermal approach combined with high-temperature calcination. The hierarchical nitrogen-doped porous carbon can serve as three-dimensional conductive frameworks to improve the electronic transport of semiconducting MoS2. When evaluated as anode material for lithium-ion batteries, the MoS2@C exhibit enhanced electrochemical performances compared with pure MoS2 nanosheets, including high capacity (1305.5 mA h g(-1) at 100 mAg(-1)), excellent rate capability (438.4 mA hg(-1) at 1000 mA g(-1)). The reasons for the improved electrochemical performances are explored in terms of the high electronic conductivity and the facilitation of lithium ion transport arising from the hierarchical structures of MoS2@C. MoS2‐Coupled Carbon Nanosheets Encapsulated on Sodium Titanate Nanowires As Super‐Durable Anode Material for Sodium‐Ion Batteries

Abstract:There is an ever-increasing demand for rechargeable batteries with fast charging, long cycling, high safety, and low cost in new energy storage systems. Herein, a heterogeneous architecture composed of MoS2-coupled carbon nanosheets encapsulated on sodium titanate nanowires is developed and demonstrated as an advanced anode for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). Owing to the synergistic effects of ultrastable substrate of 1D sodium titanate (NTO) nanowires, high-capacity promoter of 2D MoS2 nanosheets as well as the 2D conductive carbon matrix, the resulting 1D/2D-2D hybrid demonstrates excellent high-rate capacity and super-durable cyclability, delivering a stable capacity of up to 425.5 mAh g-1 at 200 mA g-1. Even at an ultrafast charging/discharging process within 80 s, the capacity can be maintained at 201 mAh g-1 after 16 000 cycles with only 0.0012% capacity loss per cycle, one of the best high-rate capacities and cyclabilities for NTO-based hybrid composites. The present work highlights the designing protocol of hierarchical nanoarchitectures with stable substrate and high-capacity electrodes for next-generation energy storage applications.

Abstract:Molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) has garnered attention as a promising anode material for sodium-ion batteries due to its high theoretical capacity and unique lamellar texture. Nevertheless, unmodified MoS 2 suffers from inferior electrical conductivity, poor reaction reversibility, and suboptimal cycle life upon repeated sodiation/desodiation. In this study, a novel carbon-free V-heteroatom doping MoS 2 composite ( abbr. VMS) with hierarchical laurustinus-like structure was synthesized by a facile one-step hydrothermal process. Specifically, the rational doping of V-atoms can effectively modulate the intrinsic electronic structure of pure MoS 2 , resulting in enhanced Na-ion diffusion rate, improved reaction kinetics and reduced activation energy compared to bare MoS 2 . Additionally, the hierarchical structure of the VMS composite, with sufficient spacing, effectively mitigates mechanical stress and ensures the integrity of active materials. Consequently, the prepared VMS composite possesses exceptional reaction reversibility (average ICE value of 92 %) and remarkable capacity retention (92.1 % after 450 cycles at 10 A/g). These findings contribute valuable insights into the development of advanced MoS 2 -based anode for sodium ion batteries.
