Abstract:A palladium-catalyzed tandem dehydrogenative [4 + 2] annulation of terminal olefins with N-sulfonyl amides via C(sp2)-H activation, allylic C(sp3)-H activation, and homoallylic C(sp3)-H elimination processes has been developed. Promoted by the DMSO ligand, various benzamides, heterocyclic arylamides, alkenyl carboxamides, and commercial olefins are found to be efficient substrates to construct important heterocyclic compounds bearing a vinyl substituent with high E stereoselectivity. Using air as the terminal oxidant also provides a great advantage regarding environmental friendliness.

Abstract:A new and efficient Pd(II) -catalyzed intermolecular annulation of N-benzoylsulfonamide with allenes for the synthesis of 3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-1(2H)-ones is reported. This CH functionalization is compatible with ambient air and moisture, and it can be applied to terminal or internal allenes with diﬀerent synthetically attractive functional groups. Control experiments and a kinetic isotope effect study are conducted and a plausible mechanism is proposed.

Abstract:Efficient synthetic routes to construct multisubstituted benzo[1,2-b:5,4-b']difurans and benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b']difurans from bis(allyloxy)bis(alkynyl)benzenes or bis(alkynyl)dihydroxybenzenes and allylic halides utilizing palladium-catalyzed double annulations is reported. Abstract:A palladium-catalyzed aerobic multicomponent benzannulation of Hantzsch reactants, i.e., amines, aldehydes, and β-dicarbonyls, has been developed. Hence, a viable entry to highly functionalized anilines has been accessed under solvent-free neat conditions. Mechanistically, the palladium chelating with an imine intermediate was proposed to be the key for this novel carbocyclization.

Abstract:A versatile strategy for the one-pot synthesis of primary biaryl-based sulfonamides has been developed via a tandem process consisting of palladium-catalyzed CH arylation and subsequent copper-catalyzed oxidative CN bond cleavage of aryl sulfonamino acids. Both electron-withdrawing and electron-donating functionalities can be introduced into the ortho positions of arenes bearing a variety of substituents. The amio acid moiety not only acts as a directing group but also as an ammonia synthetic equivalent. Importantly, the directing group was smoothly removed in the presence of catalytic CuI by using air as a sole oxidant.

Abstract:A highly efficient palladium-catalyzed domino coupling reaction of ortho-iodoaryl allene with sodium sulfonates under mild conditions is described. This novel method provides a practical protocol to access diverse indole- and benzofuran-containing sulfones by simultaneous construction of C(sp2)-C(sp2) bond and a C(sp3)-S bonds in one pot. The salient features of this transformation include simple operations, broad substrate scope, and good functional group tolerance.

Abstract:Diastereo- and enantioselective N-heterocyclic carbene catalyzed 1-azadiene Diels-Alder reactions of (E)-2-styrylbenzothiazoles with α-chloro aldehydes are reported. This annulation strategy provides an efficient access to medicinally important dihydrobenzothiazolopyridin-1-ones in good to excellent yields (44-97%) with very good to excellent stereoselectivities (up to 9:1 dr, 98% ee) and tolerates quite a range of substituents.

Abstract:We developed herein a palladium-catalyzed annulation of aryltriazoles and arylisoxazoles with internal alkynes via C-H bond activation process. 4,5-disubstituted-3H-naphtho[1,2-d][1,2,3]triazoles and 4,5-disubstituted-naphtho[2,1-d]isoxazoles could be afforded in good yields, respectively. The starting materials are readily available and the scope and applications of this transformation were explored. The reaction offers a practical approach to naphthalene fused heterocycles.

Abstract:A novel and efficient palladium-catalyzed cascade annulation/arylthiolation reaction has been developed to afford functionalized 3-sulfenylbenzofuran and 3-sulfenylindole derivatives in moderate to good yields from readily available 2-alkynylphenols and 2-alkynylamines in ionic liquids. This protocol provides a valuable synthetic tool for the assembly of a wide range of 3-sulfenylbenzofuran and 3-sulfenylindole derivatives with high atom- and step-economy and exceptional functional group tolerance. Moreover, the employment of ionic liquids under mild reaction conditions makes this transformation green and practical. Furthermore, this approach enriched current C-S bond formation chemistry, making a valuable and practical method in synthetic and medicinal chemistry.

Abstract:A highly efficient asymmetric arylation of cyclic N-sulfonyl aldimines with arylboronic acids catalyzed by a rhodium/sulfur-olefin ligand complex under mild conditions is described. A wide range 4-aryl-3,4-dihydro-1,2,3-benzoxathiazine 2,2-dioxides were obtained in extremely high yields (93-99%) and high enantiomeric purities (97-99% ee).

Abstract:The development of an efficient method for the construction of biologically relevant sultams is described, which represents the first case of cobalt-promoted C-H/N-H functionalization of sulfonamides with allenes. This newly developed annulation reaction demonstrated good functional group tolerance and excellent regioselectivity. Both terminal monosubstituted allenes and internal disubstituted allenes can be employed to give the desired sultams in good yields. This strategy can be successfully used to build a unique sultam library with novel structural diversity.

Abstract:The annulation reactions of N-allylbenzamides with N-sulfonylaminopyridinium salts were developed under metal-free photoinduced mild conditions. Substituent-controlled sulfonaminoarylation and sulfonaminooxylation of benzamides were realized: N-allylbenzamides lead to benzosultams, while N-(2-phenylallyl)benzamides give sulfonamidylated oxazoline derivatives. Control experiments indicated that those reactions undergo a radical pathway with arylsulfonamidyl radicals as the intermediates. The aryl C-H bond functionalization in arylsulfonamidyl was involved for the first time to give benzosultams.

Abstract:A palladium-catalyzed Suzuki cross-coupling of benzyl ammonium triflates via activation of a Csp 3 –N bond to construct a Csp 3 –Csp 2 bond is described. Various boronic acids can be coupled with a range of benzylamine-derived quaternary ammonium salts in 1:1 molar ratio by the bench-stable N -heterocyclic carbene palladium complex, SIPr-PdCl 2 -Py to afford diarylmethane derivatives. This reaction exhibits a wide substrate scope and functional group tolerance. Direct arylation of benzylamine in a one-pot process and the gram-scale reaction can be performed successfully.

Abstract:A new pattern for difunctionalization of alkynes via a palladium-catalyzed regio- and stereoselective coupling–addition of propiolates with arylsulfonyl hydrazides is disclosed. The approach enables the synthesis of various highly functionalized (E)-vinylsulfones in satisfactory yields. Arylsulfonyl hydrazides act as both aryl and sulfonyl sources via selective cleavage of Ar(C)–S and S–N bonds, which are simultaneously incorporated onto the terminal carbon atom of an alkyne molecule.

Abstract:Palladium-catalyzed dearomative [2+2+1] annulations of aryl ethers with alkynes are reported via para-selective C-H functionalization, providing highly functionalized spirocyclohexadienones in moderate to excellent yields under mild reaction conditions. Importantly, mechanistic investigation indicated an unusual C-O bond cleavage was involved. Moreover, polyarylated naphthalenes could be obtained via oxidative [2+2+2] annulation by tuning aryl ethers from monomethoxybenzenes to polymethoxybenzenes under an identical catalytic system.

Abstract:Conditions allowing the C10- and C11-arylations of dibenzo[b,f]azepines via successive palladium-catalyzed reactions are reported. Using aryl bromides as the aryl source, the C10-arylation of dibenzo[b,f]azepines is very selective. Then, using benzenesulfonyl chlorides as the aryl source, the second arylation at C11-position is achieved affording non-symmetrical C10,C11-diarylated dibenzo[b,f]azepines. Both reactions tolerate a variety of substituents on the aryl source.
