Abstract:It is important to evaluate the fragility of transmission corridors for power grid planning and operation in typhoon environment. This paper proposes a method to evaluate the structure safety of the transmission corridors considering micro-landform during typhoon. According to the meteorological stations' measured wind speed, a typhoon near-surface wind field model for assessing the towers' structural safety is proposed. First, since the damaged towers are mainly concentrated in the valley area, two damage mechanism of transmission towers in flat and valley area are analyzed. By modeling the micro-landform of valley as well as the wind speed at the exit of the valley, both the vortex wind speed and the radius of the vortex area can be obtained, which can be utilized to analyze the structure safety of the transmission towers. It has been shown that the funneling effect of the valley is the key factor to incur the outage of the transmission corridors during typhoon. Accordingly, two outage probability curves under vortex and normal wind are calculated separately. Based on the proposed safety evaluation method, the analysis of fragility of transmission corridors in F province under the influence of Meranti in 2016 is demonstrated. The results show the proposed method is effective, and it is promising for applications in power industry sector.
